I purchased a low miles 2004 Duc ST4S for just over $4k. Lots of proper upgrades. Then I serviced it, buying new tires, hoses, belts, etc. Almost like buying it twice. I’m 72 so it’s my last big flash. I love it. Perfect for an old guy.
Yes! This is the video I NEEDED! I'm so interested in getting into this life, but I'm not rich, have a family to care for, and already have a pretty expensive car and I've never riden a motorcycle before so I just want to dip my toes into a good starter bike and see where it goes. Thank you!
I had a 2007 SV650, and it's so hard to recommend now that the FZ/MT-07 exists. Both of them need equal amounts of suspension work out of the box before they can shine but at least the Yamaha is lighter and has a more fun engine.

I bought my new bike a month ago, a vstrom dl1000 2006, with 24k miles, for $4,000.00 amazing bike, im loving every part of it!!, fully recommended. Or even de 650.
Suzuki SFV650/Gladius! You can find them newer and with lower miles than a gen 2 SV650. A 2005 SV650 was my first bike, and I just picked up a 2013 Gladius with only 6K miles for 2600 bucks! It’s definitely the best deal out there if you can find one. 👍
2001 BMW R1100S owned and maintained by a BMW Master Tech. 2500.00. Included rear locking boxes. It's an amazing motorcycle! Only thing it was needing soon when I got it was tires. Put on a set of Michelin Road 5s.
I bought my first bike a few months back, a k5 SV650 with the black frame with 9,500 miles on the clock for £1600. A literal couple of small dents around the tank and a new rear shock was needed for a clean MOT but yea. Bargain 😁
The R6 inflation is real. Mine got stolen this summer, and the insurance payout was more than what I brought the bike for new, in 2020. It was enough for me to buy a used Panigale.
Better off saving for a few more months and getting a budget of like 7k to 8k and you can get wayyyy more bike if you can muster a little more patience.
I just totaled my er6n dropping it while loading into the back of my truck. 5kish check inbound. This video could not have been better timed. Lord rossi is watching over me.

New Royal Enfield Himalayan or Meteor or 650 under or around $5000. New Honda Grom under $4000 or the 1988 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 with 3800 miles on it that only needed a battery and I bought and rode it home for $200. Lots of cheap bikes out there if you just look. Don't worry about horsepower and speed and think fun instead. Have a great summer riding.

Also good to mention the Suzuki Gladius / SFV650. Just an uglier version of the SV650 that replaced it from 2009-2016, and you can find them easily under $5000 now.
you really need to print the model number so we can see it, not just your voice in your video. Had to rewind way too many times to write down what you said. Print the freaking model names
hahhahhaaaa 8000 dollar bike, due to vehicle taxes here in Denmark, a ninja 400 new is about 11500 dollars. i paid around 19.000 dollars for my BMW S1000R and Aprilia Tuono V4RR each, and they were both used 4 years old when i got them
IMHO a Ducati, however cheap to purchase, is never an economical bike to own. Servicing and parts costs are substantially higher than a mid-size Japanese bike with better performance. Hey yammie I’ve got a question for you do you think a 2019 rebel 300 with only 10 miles on when I bought it should have the clutch burned out and I only put a little over 100 miles on it (and no I want riding the clutch)
Dude, one request, for us newbies in motorcycles: when talking about different models, please make a short list written with them in the video description. Quite hard to get all the models names with your speed of speech... :)
The 1-800-yeetus this is so funny. My 67 y/o, non-caring-about-motorcycles mom was sitting next to me and asked me why I was laughing. Even having to explain the joke, icluding explaining what "yeet" is, she laughed, too. Great ad! I remember those Wilford Brimley diabetes commercials. Being a type 2 diabetic myself, I crack "diabeetus" joke on occasion. So worth it.
I found an clean '03 Dyna Wide Glide for $5k. I'm rapidly approaching honest geezerhood so the "relaxed" performance is fine for me. I like it a lot, it's reliable and has great support. Even my local dealer will still wrench it, unlike my '99 Road Star...
I bought a '98 (anniversary) FXDWG for a bit less several years ago. Evo Harleys are incredibly reliable and have become bargains over the last few years.
I nabbed a 07 Ninja 650r for only 2k last year. Other than slight cosmetic damage, it ran beautifully. I got unbelievably lucky with that find. The sellers were even great people. They called me two weeks after I bought it to see if I still liked my purchase and offered to buy it back in full if I didn't.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is my first bike and is under 4k with a 3 year warranty can't go wrong with it. It's very stable and a lot of fun and good to learn on.
I can’t find a RE Meteor that will leave the dealer/stealer under $5000. By the time they add shipping charges, preparation fee, taxes and licensing, my $5000 budget is blown. Seems to be a great little bike though.
@@jeffreyhurst9552 dang that sucks maybe look for a used one that’s in good condition, that’s the only thing I can think of😅. But if you have the chance definitely consider it for not just a first bike but a second bike perhaps. I love mine.
I wanted an R1 when I started, but my budget was like $3000. I ended up with a '92 Ducati Monster. Much lower HP than I wanted, but I found pretty quickly that my opinion of hp did not matter in the slightest. Crashed the duc and got a Yam fz6r after that because it was all I could afford. Kind of hated its style, but I ended up loving the bike overall. Crashed that one too. Finally put one foot into the big league with a 2007 Suzuki gsxr 750, which is wayyyyyy older than I wanted...by like a decade! Guess what....I f***ing love it. If you're buying a bike because you want to look cool, I can't help you...no one can. If you're buying a bike because, like many of us, you have a deep seated and unreasonable need for 2 wheels, pick anything in you're budget. I promise, I'm having just as much fun with 140hp as I was with 70.
This summer I wanted to get back to riding after 20 years. I was able to score a 1996 Sportster 1200 and a Harley Street 500. I traded my 90 Jeep YJ for the Sportster and three Firearms for the Street. God I never knew how much I missed riding.
I like to ride long distance like Coast to Coast but couldn’t afford a 30 or 40 thousand dollars big touring bike so I bought a 2000 Honda Valkyrie interstate for $2000 with 5 thousand miles on it and now has 90,000 miles with no break downs and a lot of great Coast to Coast rides
Crikey second had bikes are going for more than new in Australia, if you can find a new one in stock, looks like the Great Reset is here, time to dust off the RE Bullet and learn to run it on home made bio-diesel before the Nuclear Subs leave port 😳
Here in Belgium harleys are still looked upon as something "special" you won't find anything under 5000€ exept for a tired sportser, i'll stick with my triumph tiger 995 and MZ scorpion to have some fun on two wheels.
for me, it ended up being getting a used 2001 Sportster with less than 10K miles on it for 3K$, working on it for 9 months, and putting anouther 3K+$ into it .... but i am a motorcycle tech grad 1988, who's grampa worked at H-D for 40+ years from the first big hire in the 1920s ... not everyone would pick a H-D knowing they could get 80Hp out of it on chump change, but i know what i am doing, and the Sportster Parts Are There...that's the thing....so what ever you do, Do Not try building a motorcycle that doesn't have the parts availability to back you up on it...

They called me two weeks after I bought it to see if I still liked my purchase and offered to buy it back in full if I didn't.
wtf bro got a deal from Jesus himself
The one I'll always add is the Suzuki DR650. They're bulletproof and have surprising aftermarket support.
So basically my SV650 is king.
yup
Yes
This guy knows
I'm starting to think you shouldn't be riding a bike
This summer I wanted to get back to riding after 20 years. I was able to score a 1996 Sportster 1200 and a Harley Street 500. I traded my 90 Jeep YJ for the Sportster and three Firearms for the Street. God I never knew how much I missed riding.
Just sold my 94 Jeep YJ (most overrated vehicles ever made) and using the cash for a motorcycle!
There’s just nothing like catching some wind…
@@D.H.CE_FL right. My was so rusted it out. I made out like a bandit lol
muricaaaaa
Ducati 696 was my first "big bike" and I loved it, if I had spare cash I would love to buy it back.
It’s insane how expensive drz 400s have become!!
Yeah I don't get it. I rode a buddies and didn't care for it. Seems really outdated.
Right. 2001s for 5+
@@timothyadams4477 Simple and reliable. That’s what people want. The DR350’s are the better bike imo
You can afford the Ducati but you sure can’t afford the repairs
Why I’m not catching that mess! 😂
I bought a 2011 Ducati Monster 796 for $2800 and that's the one with the single sided swing arm, what a score 👏
you're talking about dynaa and you put up a vrod muscle... not cool dude... Vrods are the best thing that ever came out of HD....
