    Just left the VW dealership with my new APR Stage 1 93 octane tune. Only a K&N air filter. Idle felt a little ruff but after a few miles of driving it seems normal. Maybe the ECU had to make adjustments. It truly is a different car. Acceleration is impressive. Very pleased!

  • @mqbr22
    @mqbr22 7 років тому +14

    I'm stage 2 with all apr bolt ons including the new apr turbo inlet on the 93 octane file and I can tell you it's mind blowing for a stock turbo gti.

    • @Russellscottx
      @Russellscottx  7 років тому +1

      yeah it's pretty crazy. Did you see any difference with the turbo inlet?

    • @mqbr22
      @mqbr22 7 років тому +5

      MedicMagic Well I did the apr intercooler and apr turbo inlet installed at the same time so hard to say but I would say it's a waste of money honestly. I'm pretty sure if it did anything apr would have some dyno graph showing us a 2-3 hp gain so who knows man

    • @seanmcd72
      @seanmcd72 7 років тому +2

      turbo inlet is a complete waste of money. It doesn't add anything. There's a reason nobody posts any dyno info on the part.

    • @mqbr22
      @mqbr22 7 років тому +1

      Sean McDonald Yea I figured but I like the better quality of the cast aluminum unit from apr as it is more robust and doesn't wiggle around as much as the stock inlet does. Down pipe, stage 2 tune is where the meat and potato is for the mk7 gti.

    • @seanmcd72
      @seanmcd72 7 років тому

      Yeah been trying to read up on it more - there's a good thread on golfmk7 forums about it. I am on the fence. With all that said I will probably still get one if I ever get an upgraded intercooler and intake and tune...

    Just got my mk7 Gti in July’20. Looking for something along these lines to bump up the factory 210 to around 300hp. How much was this apr tune?

  • @cboost187
    @cboost187 6 років тому +3

    316 wheel horsepower on a stage 1 tune my balls. I have a mk7 gti DDG, full cobb stage 3 setup running 93 octane and my car put down 283 wheel horsepower with 330 foot pounds of torque. I verified that with a few Dyno runs early last month.

    Quick ques. If you get an APR 91 tune and have half a tank of gas of 91.. u stop by a gas station that only carries 93, is it bad to mix these up? Will it throw the ecu off?

  • @janakranchod

    Did you get your GTI on a dyno? APR rates Stage 1 at 316HP at the crank. WHP is most likely around 280-290WHP!
    MAPerformance offers a stage 1 tune for free with the purchase of a Cobb Accessport from them. They got 291WHP with their stage 1 tune on Cobb!

    • @Clapxiomatic
      @Clapxiomatic 7 років тому +1

      Nope, most APR stage 1 dyno around 290 WHP. 316 HP is the advertised CRANK HP based on their WHP dyno pulls.
      APR dyno'd 291 WHP with their own tune, corrected for crank is 316. www.goapr.com/products/ecu_upgrade_20tsi_gen3_mqb.html
      320 WHP is an additional 29 WHP, Doesn't matter if its a little cooler where you are, you arnt picking up 30 HP over APRs own number, UNLESS of course your dyno reads higher than theirs on average.
      All dynos are not equal but the accepted figure in the community is around 290 WHP.

      @@mhendo7 you do not need an intake unless its for the sound. Stock airbox with a k&n drop in filter and snow guard removed is more than enough for stage 1. And if you have pp brakes you don't need to upgrade your brakes for stage 2.

    I wouldn’t believe everything the APR installers are telling you to do. Gap spark plugs when Stage 2? How much will they charge you for that? I’m Stage 2 Eurodyne with stock spark plugs, and not gapped more, and my MK7 GTI runs perfectly. It is recommended to get 1 stage colder spark plugs (RS7’s) when Stage 2, but not required.

    • @Russellscottx
      @Russellscottx  6 років тому

    • @tjprovo24
      @tjprovo24 6 років тому

      MedicMagic because they want more of your $$. That’s why. I would ask them how much they would charge for that. If it’s anywhere over $30, I would not have them do it, and go buy yourself some RS7 plugs for $50 online, and do them yourself. Easy job, and knowing that you’re actually getting a better plug made for the new power of the car, instead of just having the OEM plugs gapped, which is nonsense, is better for the car and peace of mind.

      The factory clutch is weak. Mine lasted 30K after my tune and where I had it done says it was unusual as the OEM clutch generally lasts 10K max. I am easy on my car and don't tear it up though. I went with the South Bend stage 2 daily. Firm clutch but will get softer after 500 miles or so. Be gentle on a new clutch for about 1k. Also, there will be some clutch chatter (almost 80's diesel sounding).

      @@Russellscottx so adding a stage 1 tune will effect factory warranty or is it just as simple to remove tune before going for services at the dealership?

    • @killer_vette351
      @killer_vette351 5 років тому

      gsaaaron if you have a Cobb accessport it’s simple to remove it before you go to the dealer, it’s an easy process to add it back too

    My mini jcw beat a apr stage 1 GTI. All i have done to my car is NM power module (piggyback system) only have 250 hp on the Mini. 316 probably at the Crank. Check Whenzlunch UA-cam to watch the video.

      You act like a power module is nothing. It increases boost just like an APR tune....

    • @22lrsyndicate
      @22lrsyndicate 7 років тому

      Andrew yeah but the power module is a cheaper and that's The only mod. Apr tune doesn't it have like upgrade air box or something. I guess what I'm trying to say is I got more bang for my buck and a safer than reflashing my ECU. I paid 300 for the NM power module

    • @Clapxiomatic
      @Clapxiomatic 7 років тому

      Uh no an APR tune is at its core just increasing the boost. APR does sell air box's and such but that is not a part of Stage 1. Stage 1 by itself is a tune only.
      Anyone can piggyback their GTI just like you did for the same cost.

    • @22lrsyndicate
      @22lrsyndicate 7 років тому

      Andrew oh ok. Yeah I know that company makes basically the same module for the GTI. Well im sure that car is not putting 316 to the wheels, that's what I was first talking about. But how much does that tune cost from apr? IMO just not worth it when you can get the same power from something you can take Off in 5 min before a service when you still have a warranty.

    Look, all this WHP vs. crank HP juvenile banter has been going on since the 20's, 30's, 40's . . . you get it. The butt dyno is what counts. We're in this for fun, aren't we? What physical (or electronic) change to your setup produces an adrenalin rush? Pass it on. If not, shut up. Any other measure is sophistry.

  • @chapmanmerchant
    @chapmanmerchant 5 років тому

    you keep talking WHP. so what you mean is crank hp. and a stage 1 does not bring you to 300WHP. Check your stuff and do another vid. cheers

    You are stating the CRANK horsepower rating for the 93 octane APR stage 1, not Wheel hp. Get it straight. You'r pushing maybe 290hp at the wheels.

      too bad you don't have a before run on that same dyno. I guess APR subtracts HP from their ratings to increase sales...

      MedicMagic well that place I checked wasnt really reliable cuse my car is stage 2 by revo full like downpipe full remus system intake system intercooler muffler delete bigger hoses for outlet and such and dsg stage 1 tune with 1.6 bar but it feels way more powerful than what the dyno showed cuse its impossible that stage 2 full is 318 in engine

    • @Russellscottx
      @Russellscottx  6 років тому

      I have broken a clutch before. The rivets on the clutch plate got ripped right out = no clutch. It was on a mk6 golf. Definitely should take it easy on a stock clutch with stage 1. Dont drop the clutch
