Wrong. Im watching because its an MCM video.
The bell summons the faithful to chuuuurchstustustu.
I'm watching for Moog's mom.
Agreed.
Yup.❤
Same
I’m literally watching this in my mk7 gti while waiting for my stage 2 tune to load. Unbelievable timing from the boys.
ayeeee, send it! it's been 12 hours; how you liking it?
Who tuned it?
Marty/Moog (or whom ever does the lighting rigs) love what you've done with the lighting setup in the main sections of the vid, lovely contrast, colour and angles. Job well done folks.
🤨
I was thinking the same thing, awesome attention to detail.
love this show, please do same for other models & brands.
We will!
I would love to see what they do with a Ford Fiesta ST, if Australia got them anyways. They're such fun little nuggets. I just got mine for a touch less than $10,000 usd And it's even better handling than my mk5 gti, mk7 gti, and mk7 golf R.
@@kylewise3111 I owned one of those brand new, a 2016 in Molten Orange, it was an absolute blast to drive! Easy to modify, responded very well to mods, handled like a dream, probably my most favorite car I've ever owned! Selling it was probably the worst decision I ever made, 3 years later and I still miss the thing.
@SpartanFore I would have saved myself so many headaches and so much freaking money by not messing around with the eurotrash as long as I did. Definitely keeping it for as long as it's feasible, it's a wonderful little car if you don't pretend it's something classy lol
Does this VAG stuff fit in my Honda?
GTI Clubsport or TCR mufflers are a great OEM+ upgrade. They sound good without being obnoxious.
With the resonator still there or without?
@@Kiekerr Well, I replaced my original muffler first, it made the sound a bit better but once I removed the resonator, the sound became a lot better. Its louder but it does not cause unwanted attention.
I actually like the sound of the OEM exhaust, and from the dyno most aftermarket exhausts don't make much more power just like the intakes, running a stock turbo anyway. Its more for the sound, of which is very subjective to each person's ear.
Or how about owning a real Clubsport, like on my channel?
Do they require cutting? Or will the sloop on the standard exhaust?
The tuning platform has improved massively on these cars within the last 2 years. Stock turbo golf R's going 10 seconds, unopened engine GTI's going 9 seconds, etc. They've become insanely quick nowadays, it would be really good if you guys pushed one to it's limits!
A stock golf r runs 10s?
He said stock turbo golf R but still dreaming
@@Tube4TTT there are plenty of stock turbo Mk7 Rs in the 10s. They've got some serious weight reduction and ethanol fuel in them, but they're doing it.
@Tube4TTT there are a few running 10s on original turbos
@@rhysbertrand8903 might not be 100% stock - weight reduction maybe etc
Next-level vid lads. Love the quick clips from the experts. So much info and fast too. Polished as bro. Big thumbs up!
A cheap and easy mod to consider for owners is the add-in or replacement of the dogbone mount / pendulum mount. Can help reduce a lot of wheel hop in these cars. Definitely made a big difference for me. Also worth looking at the OBDEleven or Carista devices that plug into your OBD port and connect to your phone via Bluetooth. Using them allow you to change a lot of the settings for your car, including tweaking aspects like throttle sensitivity and aggressiveness of the electronic LSD in the performance pack models. But can also be used to configure things such as lights and indicator behavior, or simply displaying the fan strength when the climate control is on auto mode.
+1 on the obd11, I just wish it cured the start/stop mode on the 7.5 as nothing I've tried with it seems to kill that.
I agree with you, but even without OBD11 when you switch from Eco, Normal and Sport modes, the Diff and throttle response changes anyway. What OBD11 can do, is make it so you have even more of a sensitive throttle, of which is not always a good thing. OBD11 was nice to do mods like the rolling of the windows with the key fob, ESC OFF and the A/C for Hotter climates mod to me were the most helpful thus far.
@@randallflat2010You can reverse the S/S-button, easiest way.
@@randallflat2010 the usual method is to set the minimum voltage threshold to some unreasonable value, like 16V. You've tried that?
@@milkymoocowmoo I think I have it at 12v, I believe originally it was 7? I seem to recall seeing somewhere my problem is specific to the 7.5 but maybe not. I know they sell jumpers and such too, my goal was to get a TCU tune as my previous R had the APR one and that disabled it, I wonder if the IE stage 1 (non TCU) has anything for it as I was planning on doing that eventually and then building it up from there.
This video is produced so well, I'm at 3:16 and had to give it a like, the flow of the video, the music, the camera angles and lighting, the clear precise information. You guys are the best!
I'm glad you mentioned the quality of the dynaudio sound system, when I was swinging spanners for them and I first hopped in a golf with the specced out sound system I actually couldn't believe how good it sounded. Better than the sub/amp and splits I was running in my car at the time
I wonder how the Fender sound system that we get here in the US compares to the Dynaudio? I have been pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds. 2016 GTI SE owner here.
Exactly what I was wondering. I picked up a 2017 2 weeks ago. I just love it.
I always get excited when a mcm video goes up, but even more when it’s a vw video
Not many other UA-camrs deal w these cars and they’re a fav of many people
Personally my fav is jetta mk5 - not very fast, but definitely fun
Thanks for all the years guys! Love the videos!
Thank you guys for covering this video and you are spot on with GTI mods to improve it. The MQB GTIs sre the best they've ever been. For the people who own a MK7 / 7.5 GTI with a proper 6 speed manual gearbox, consider the following mods for the best / fastest shifting and feel: BFI weighted knob, Short shifter, CDV delete w/ ECS bleeder block, replace stock clutch with an upgraded one from a reputable brand, and switch from Dual mass to single mass flywheel (optional). I daily drive an EQT Stage 2 GTI and I also have no-lift shift and launch control, basically rendering all the merits of a DSG useless, while having a way more engaging car to drive anywhere. Even a stock 6 speed manual car is a hoot to drive, like a hot hatch should be. From my exprience owning 6 GTIs and running them in all kinds of conditions (including track), EQT tunes are the smoothest and best. Finally, invest in OBDEleven or Ross Tech cable / software, to make sure you can fully defeat the ESC / Traction control etc. Lots of cool stuff you can do with something like VCDS. I grew up tuning Hondas and GTIs brought me back to the wonderful days of tuning and aftermarket stuff. Cheers !!
As much as I love manual and will always stick to it.The DSG is a huge part of what makes these cars so rapid. Whilst you can make shifting in a manual better with shifter mods, clutch mods and no lift shift, it still wont match to how fast the DSG is especially if the DSG is tuned for even more aggressive shifts.
@@vxsr33 Agree entirely. My bog-stock MK7 with DSG is so- so- so- much better than the last manual I drove (330bhp heavily modified WRX [not-STi]) - and far better than the last "auto" I drove (Porsche 911-996). Interested in looking at a DSG "tune" but would be highly unlikely to go back to a manual if the opportunity presented itself...
What exactly is VCDS?
Great vid! I decided to self tune my 2021 MK7.5 GTI Performance pkg via open source and so far so good on "Stage 1" ! Prepping for track day number 4 with it as well and doing Koni dampers with Eibach springs and 034 Camber/Caster plates. Hopefully by next season she'll be running a bigger turbo!
Recently got my mk7 on e85, what an insane upgrade. This platform is such a good one for people wanting to go fast without much
Interesting new format - a great overview for the options available. I have a Mk6 GTI, so most of these mods apply. There’s a lot of info but I do miss the humor between the two of you. Kudos for trying something new!
I just bought a Mk6 Golf GTI, and it is easily the most modable and easy to work on car i have ever owned.
Driving it daily is such a nice place to be, i have caught the GTI bug for sure!
Mk7 R here. Can confirm.
I love my Japanese imported mk6 GTI. Plenty mods out there and good fun
I absolutely love my MK7.5. Best car I’ve ever owned. Insanely practical and a ton of fun.
How do I get a 7.5? Is it like a specific thing I have to search or is it every MK7?
@@Lukesharkboythe 7.5 is the same shape as the mk7 but it’s the facelift version so it’s got an updated digital dash and better interior. I believe they start from 2017 and go to 2019
What a great video! From the classic Mk5 to now Mk7. Fresh edits!
Just bought a MK7 in January! My first GTI, first VW, first turbo. Thank you for this video
Ultimate timing, I just got a mk7 5 months ago and i was dipping into the modding elements of it. This is great!
Congrats man! They're phenomenal cars. I absolutely loved my two mk7s. My gti was great till I accidentally tried to play chicken with a guard rail 😬
Plus side is they're built like tanks. 65mph crash and walked away with a couple bruises from the seat belt. My mk7 R was great for 3 years till I blew up the engine lol
I've got a 2020 Octavia vRS which is basically a Mk7.5 Gti platform with a wagon body. I'm waiting for the warranty to run out and then I'm going ham on the mods.
@@kylewise3111how did you blow the engine?😳
@djcarlitosatl crankwalk took out the engine. I had a beefy aftermarket clutch on the manual with an aggressive flash tune (EQT stage 2), and almost 3 years of occasional 0-60(mph) launches and highway pulls, other than that was just a daily getting a lot of miles on it. The engine popped at 110,000 miles, even though car was maintained quite well. Some people point to the oil I used (Liquimoly), others blame it on the clutch (south bend stage 3), and others blame it on the tune. At the end of the day I think it wasn't the tunes fault, it's a bad thrust washer design from the factory, with only a couple ways to *try* to prevent the failure, that I didn't even try to do; because I thought it was a rare failure. It turns out it's not as rare as most of us vw guys will try to say lol
@@kylewise3111 This issue isn't a problem on the DSG equipped cars, not exactly sure why that is.
Awesome video boys. All i need for my mk7 is springs, rear sway bar and exhaust. Also if you just change the tail light bulbs to led instead of the stock halogen it looks good aswell.
And the dogbone mount, it’s a must have mod for the mk7
@@wildnshortz5213 noted! Any particular brand?
Loving these videos. About to begin upgrading my fully stock mk6 GTI I bought brand new in 2013 and these are the best, most inspiring videos for me to do so.Also, you guys are hilarious, so that definitely helps.
I'm watching because I'm out of work sick today and I love MCM channel, couldn't car less about the car itself.
For intake on my S3, I only changed the turbo inlet and it made a noticable difference. (It was already stage 1+ mapped)
Yeah, VW/AUDI already have a pretty fantastic intake design. Just needs the inlet pipe and a higher flow filter insert
No doubt. I have IE intake now but if anyone is interested in an aFe dry high flow hmu.
I love my MK7, and have done most of the things listed in the video. The low torque stage 1 tune really woke the car up and I'm still on the original clutch at 120k miles, intake and catback makes it more enjoyable to listen to while driving. But I can't help myself, I want to do a downpipe and IS38 upgrade once it's clutch time.
Giving me hope, stock clutch on stage 1 low torque tune on my 33k mile 2017 😅.
I'm on 260ks stage 1 and still on the stock clutch.

Id love a mk6 gti video!
Awesome work as usual, always bringing the goods
I'd be hoping for the MK5 myself
Just follow the steps in this video.
It's 1am with me and it's nothing better to watch than a mcm vid whilst chilling, never fail to entertain with the vids you make even the offroad vids
This is awesome; hope this is the beginning of a full series on how to modify individual, specific models
Highly recommend upgraded downpipe and stock exhaust from there back. Great sound, very little drone, and performance gains!
I will take your word for it seeing your profile pic haha.
Next mod noted. I have downpipe but no exhaust yet
On a gti you won’t get much sound if you keep the stock catback with a new downpipe. A downpipe+res delete will give you good sound and zero drone
@@jaylonchung9528 noted. I already have a xforce downpipe. I was gonna get the xforce catback as it has a res delete included
@@jaylonchung9528 I have plenty of sound with just a downpipe now granted I live in Florida where you don’t need a cat so it is catless and that makes it slightly louder but, I feel if I take out the resonator it will ruin the note of the engine, make it more Honda like and high pitch which I am trying to avoid.
I'm finally excited to see more videos like this one! Looking forward to it 🫠
Loved the video. I think what’s not mentioned though is you can get a six speed manual gearbox which, in my opinion, is so much better. The DSG is good but is boring compared to the manual. Best spec for me is the 7.5 OG 3 door and manual. Keep up the great work gentlemen.
I've got the 5 door to make it more practical with kids, but the 6 speed manual is a Must. All that power and fun would be blunted on an automatic.
2dr 7.5 don't come to the US
I've owned 3 GTI's and currently have a GTI TCR and I couldn't recommend them enough. Great video as per usual guys!
just got a TCR! absolutley love it. Are you running any aftermarket intake?
Hey! Yeah, I'm running the IE Intake. Couldn't recommend it enough! Looks amazing and sounds amazing!@@bigfudge8161
Just sold my Mk7.5 GTI but still watching. It's a great platform w/ tons of potential. One of my favorite cars ever owned.
As a vag enjoyer I'm frothin at this video, good stuff mate.
There's a fantastic video on UA-cam testing the performance difference between 17, 18 and 19" wheels on a MK7 GTI. 18" was the winner even in track times.
It just seems endless how knowledgeable these dudes are with Vdubs. Crazy how they really affected me getting so into MK3s as a kid and why I still am.
I bought my 2015 GTI not knowing there was a performance package variant for the earlier models. I eventually installed a Wavetrac LSD and the upgraded front and rear brakes, I cannot state how amazing these upgrades are on these little cars. Never buy one without them!
The wavetrac is maybe even better then the stock e-diff on the performance models.
Wacetrac worth it? I have a non pp gti and was quited 3k to get it installed 😮
I don't even have a Golf 7 GTi or plan to get one, but this video was actually quite educational! Hope you do more for some other popular tuner cars like the Toyota Yaris!
I’m actually watching this simply because I appreciate you guys. 🤙🏻
Nope I own a MK6 GLI with the MQB swap but i'm in it for the VDUB content ALWAYS!

Happy Birthday Marty!
Why not add a virtual cockpit to the mix? They look amazing for the golf 7
I bought my 16 GTI Autobahn after watching your Golf R series, its a pretty fun car, and I agree the track times can be similar, but it does leave something to be desired when your just trying to cook someone off the stoplight from 0-60 and they have less beans but RWD so they pull on you bc of traction..... all in all though its a very nice comfortable car and fun to throw around winding roads! Thanks for this quick guide!
Yep there is a reason drag cars are RWD. Though FWD can be quick off the line, physics wins every time.
Just bought a mk7 Gti 40th anniversary… phenomenal car
195kws with 213kws on overboost..golf R motor and Golf R is38 turbo from factory .. this 40th and TCR model are the go to models.
I believe in pre-facelift mk7 superiority. The cost cuts started on the 7.5, for example they lost the AC in the glovebox and the under-seat cubbies.
Also for Aussies in the market for a fast Golf, if you want a 3-pedal Performance Pack GTI, look into the GTI 40 Years, aka the Clubsport elsewhere. Only way to get the performance kit here in Das Manual, plus you get the full-fat R motor with the IS38 turbo.
ETA: Another el cheapo intake mod is to remove the snow grate in the factory airbox. You can see it in the bottom at 9:06. It allows you to enjoy a bit more intake noise without sacrificing filtration. Pair it with a turbo inlet, turbo muffler delete, and an aftermarket diverter valve, and you'll have some serious spool.
AC in my glove box and an under-seat tray doesn't not equate to a loss of quality or superiority.... haha, it's called weigh savings.. and getting rid of gimmicks ;)
@@saakey perhaps, but the interior de-contenting was a sign of things to come for the mk8. A 7.5 is still a fantastic car, but not exactly a major upgrade from the pre-facelift
my 7.5 has the under-seat cubbies.
@@F41LZZz seems to be a regional difference then. I've seen reports elsewhere that the 7.5 lost it, but I guess that's just cost cutting for the NA market
@@TraceyAllen it's not that the materials are explicitly cheaper on the mk8 (though they may be), it's the haptic controls that are a point of contention interior wise. Also I'm pretty sure that the AC controls in the mk8 aren't backlit either.
The annoyance at the touch controls was so prominent that the CEO Thomas Schäfer announced the company's intention to return to regular buttons on the steering wheel.
The mk8 is objectively a great car, and I hope you're enjoying yours, but as a total package I think they knocked it out of the park with the mk7, and the mk8 wasn't a smash hit of a follow up
The modifications for the mqb platform is endless. There’s so many bolt ons that are “plug and play”. I’m pushing 282wkw on e85 in my edition 40 with stock is38 😂
Me about to go Stage 3 with a MK7 1.4 , Excellent video.
finally this is the video I'm waiting for and don't worry you can do this on the mk7/7.5 for first time modifiers 🇲🇾🇳🇿 (but mk7/7.5 price in the used car market is increasing depending on the model year and options)
I had a K04 MKV GTI for 205k miles and thought it was the best daily driver out there. Now I have a 530whp MK7 GTI and now think this is the best daily driver out there. This video is good for a lot of the cookie cutter nuance, but in my experience, things like intake, intercooler, downpipe, and cat-back make a HUGE difference. I love the MCM guys, but I've had to buy 3 separate intakes, 2 different intercoolers, 2 different charge pipe sets, and a cat-back exhaust while trying to free up wastegate duty cycle issues and holding up to 35psi of boost. If I had known to just buy the biggest damn intake out there and not the nicest looking, I wouldn't have had to waste time and money. I think more time should be spent with these topics instead of telling people that intakes add no power. I personally made 25whp and lowered my wgdc by 25% just by switching from the APR closed intake to the IEV2.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know when chasing big power, you need big supporting mods. Yes i understand pressure drop and back pressure. I'm guessing you're from the US and not Australia with the 530whp figure. Have you done any draggy 60-130mph or 1/4 mile?
I refuse to believe any of that 500+ horsepower finds grip in any gear below 4th
@@nathanbee4597 you're correct, but my point is that if someone's making a definitive video on the GTI, then it should be definitive and not giving people bad advice. More time could be spent on a follow-up video and go over items like back pressure and common failure points like the PCV, waterpump, spark plugs, and fueling system. I love the GTI and just want it done right. My best 60-130 on E85 is 7.51s w/ a -1800DA and -.19 slope. It's 7.96s with a +1600DA. On 93 octane it's 8.59s. My car is an Autohahn too, so heavier than I'd like. And I don't really do 1/4 mile times because of the FWD, but I'll typically trap between 129 and 131 depending on grip. My best in Dragy is 12.61@128.7, but that's with a whopping sample source of 4 attempts, lol. My best 1/4 with an IS38 was 12.8s@118.9mph, lol. Grip is not my friend.
@@R03333 yeah, it's meant for highway rolls w/ my buddies. Most of the time it's on 93 octane and making 455whp though. The turbo is the Vortex XL, and honestly feels very similar to the IS38, but with a bit more lag and a hell of a lot more pull. I was making more torque w/ the regular IS38 on E85 (392whp/428wtq) than the XL on 93 (455whp/415wtq). On E85 it's 528whp/448wtq, but that's with a dyno in the winter. In summer it's more like 510-515whp. For tires, I'm running Michelin PS4s on an 8.5" wheel, so it grips just fine for 3rd gear rolls. I'd say 45-50mph is the sweet spot.
My favorite part is Moog’s hype up of the gti when this is technically Marty’s car.
😂
Yeah that’s what I thought. Maybe he lost a bet
I mean I used to have a MK6 GTI, stormtrooper special too. So I totally get it.

This is a fantastic video! I have been on the MQB platform for a little over 3 years now, specifically the Audi S3. Over the years I have been learning a lot about everything performance orientated for the platform. This video helps expedite the learning curve for this platform.
Hey man, have you done anything to your S3 yet?
Yeah I'm hybrid turbo Vortex XL with LPFP + HPFP. Last fueling upgrade is MPI. Making 460 whp, 11.4 1/4 mile@@danieljadorie829
This would also apply to a mk7 GLI since it's also on the MQB platform, right?
Yes it does relate. The only difference is that it's a sedan and not a hatchback.

I basically fell into owning a mk7. One it’s my first vw, it’s my first “euro” car. I love it! It really is utilitarian. I moved a new cloths washer with it. I strap all my yard waste to the roof. It’s got a tune with Dow pipe, exhaust and intake. Sounds super sick with a turbo smart recirculating valve. You not thing I would replace this car with is a mk7.5. Ohh and it’s the most amazing fwd car ever be ever driven in a Michigan winter.

This is serious stuff man. Fantastic video - do you have any other cars lined up for the same treatment? The GT86 would be awesome. Cheers
Ive got MK7 GTI with downpipe, stage 1 flash and coils. Its absolutely great daily!
Great video, lots of good info. No mods for my 2019 GTI s. It’s fast enough for me. Did I mention that I’m 80 years old. Love my VW ! Thanks, RickGTI….. 🌴
Owned a MK3 for years and just recently sold my MK5 GTI. Ive been shopping around for a MK7 so this video was perfect and got me really excited. Sadly the average MK7.5 is out of my price range (cap 20k USD) but im hoping to find a good deal from waving cash in someones face.
I would love to see a video for the golf 6 gti, i drive one as my daily. Not only because i would love to learn and see how to modify it, there also might be more people in the same situation like me 🙂 love your videos
