    Brought back memories of my MKV TSI when I got APR stage I. I drove away from New German Performance in Aberdeen Maryland and was totally blown away with the torque steer. Over the next two years I added the stage II APR tune, BSH CAI and Induktion Motorsports downpipe. The downpipe will give the next best performance gain for the cost as it allows the turbo to spool better and it doesn't have a hard angle for the exhaust exit. So.... in retrospect, I did have the stainless steel braid in the downpipe start to come apart I feel from the motor torque on the mounts. Therefore, one of your first preventive mods would be to upgrade motor mounts. This is very true for a lot of hot hatches like the Focus / Fiesta ST. I never had a clutch problem but did read about it on the forums. Mostly issues like heat saturation and the need for a better intercooler. Forge makes a nice one that is an add on (twintercooler). Last but not least, a high flow cat will still throw a CEL so you will need a spacer which solves the problem perfectly. Now, several cars later, I am thinking of doing it again and there are more tuners out there. APR is wonderful however.

      GTI is really a great every day driver... chill before you hit turbo @2800, and then it goes when you want it to. Insides are so efficiently designed that it feels huge for such a small car.

      I just got a 2021 GTI with a DSG and even stock I love it. I heard someone else refer to the WRX as having a Horsepower engine where the GTI has a Torque engine. I had a 2015 WRX with a CVT and a 2017 WRX with a standard transmission and I would say that it certainly feels that way to me. The GTI is a lot funner to drive than either of my WRX's were.

    After the tune APR states you are supposed to drive 20 miles at only partial throttle before you get on it. I got mine tuned as well. Enjoy!

    To Anyone considering doing the APR tune and had a manual transmission: don't waste the $700 unless you have $1200+ already set aside for a performance clutch. I have a 2016 and romped on it constantly after the tune because it's addicting but my clutch started slipping 6500 miles in and by 8k my clutch couldn't hold any of the power. Now I've been driving it detuned for months because I have no business buying a new clutch right now. So if you have the extra money, 100% do it. If not, wait.

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      I'm currently at 2,400 miles on my car and i haven't felt any slipping. Maybe it's still early but i will be having an update on the tune anyways. but it could also be the way you drive the car. Example: if you don't know how to shift properly(or get lazy often) and u slip the clutch when u shift you will wear out the surface faster and with the higher torque it will start to slip. But i wouldn't really say you shouldn't get the tune with out getting a clutch because i have a lot of friends stage 1 and even stage 2 with stock oem clutch.

  • @reynault87

    just by sound alone I can tell you have the turbo muffler delete kit or a short ram intake or both. That sound is addicting & I can't wait to install mine on my mk6. I'm new to your channel & don't know your mod list yet, but if you don't already have one I advise you to get an oil catch can( preferably with the PVC delete) it's a little costly, but it'll save your intake manifold & prevent you from having to do a manual scrape later on down the line. A upgraded dogbone mount will make your smile even wider too. sorry for the paragraph

      I just replayed to a top comment, stock clutch still on at 40,500 miles with some good slip in 3rd and minimal in the rest of the gears, mainly only during full boost do I see it slip, weather and road conditions play a part with it aswell I noticed. Forsure not able to get all the power down anymore for long, so does need a new clutch to bring more of the fun back

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  4 роки тому

      @@brennankinder535 when I was stage 1 they had a low output TQ option that maybe would fit you. I didnt notice any slip when I was stage 1 but I cant speak if I stayed stage 1 until now that would be the case, mine did last and still is from about 20k miles to 40,500 now stage 2

    Kevin, I have the 2016 GTI S 6 speed manual. On the fence about getting APR 1. Curious how you have to drive the car differently to compensate for the increased power. Have you taken your car on road trips such as extended highway distances and noticed anything that APR 1 makes better. Any input is appreciated.

  • @paulbell56
    @paulbell56 7 років тому +1

    On the stock "before-n-after" drive your car is making some great turbo noises. What other things have you done to make the turbo chirp and sing? I will be perfectly honest -- I am just getting the car and I'm not really interested in the tune right now but turbo noises are good entertainment.

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      hey Paul, yeah what really made the turbo free and make alot more noise was my Injen Short air intake and i also have a turbo muffler delete on the car aswell. big difference after thos 2 mods with the turbo noise. Also my BoV spacer is what u hear the most. that gives it the psshhh sound.

    So if the dealership is doing the tune does that mean the ecu flash from dealer is warranty friendly ?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  4 роки тому

      At pugi in downers grove, IL they told me it would all be covered besides the turbo. I had to sign a turbo warranty form stating I would cover turbo damage but all other areas were covered. Stage 2 40,500 miles later no major break downs and never has left me stranded! Knock on wood

      At my dealership i was told my stage 1 APR would not void my warranty. Also i got my injen from a website called Autohance for $195. never shopped there until the intake but i couldn't pass up that price. other websites had it for like $260.

      Kevin Krysa that is promising. I was getting ready to ask you the same thing

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah so I would say since maybe 30-35k miles it started to slip getting into full boost in 3rd, 4th and so on, so I lost my favorite 3rd gear highway pulls and slips a decent amount. If I wait until I'm at about 4.5k rpms I'm all good to go but still depends on road conditions hills and so on. If I start in 1st (rarley) or 2nd gear I'm good all the way until I get to 4th where I need to let off a bit to prevent me burning it and being stranded. Normal driving is perfectly fine, hopefully this lasts for me to get a new one soon!

      fernando martinez yes it is normal since I have the bov spacer. But after the Stage 1 the extra boost seems to be giving me compressor surge. So I'm thinking on upgrading mine to let the air out faster.

    How was your car just stock in the beginning of the video? That turbo blow off is not what I heard at the dealership. Did you have anything prior to the APR tune?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      Yeah sorry. I just considered it stock because i only had a muffler/resonator delete which doesn't increase anything but sound, and i also had a Blow off valve spacer that also doesn't do anything performance related just sound.

    • @nnszelc44
      @nnszelc44 7 років тому

      Kevin's Garage thanks for replying. what you've done sounds real nice if you didn't add any hp prior to the tune. might need to look into that when I get mine.

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      Yeah some really nice mods like the BoV spacer, Muffler / resonator delete and a turbo muffler delete will really make the car sound very nice.. also just adding a intake also will REALLY make the turbo noise come out with only adding like maybe 8hp and 10tq

    • @nnszelc44
      @nnszelc44 7 років тому

      Yeah I definitely plan on buying an intake for the car. probably one of the first things I'll do to it. Any recommendations on intake? Also, is see COBB is coming out with an access port for the MK7 would you think of doing that over the APR tune if you didn't already get the APR tune?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      I really like the Injen short ram intake i got for my car for 2 reason. 1. the price is very good for the quality of product u get, i paid $195 for mine. 2. the sound from the short ram is the best. Yeah, i did see that about cobb and it would only depend on if it would void my warranty or not. I liked APR because i got it done at the dealership and with this being my first "brand new" car i didn't wanna have the warranty voided 1 month after i got the car. I could see myself for sure getting the cobb later on because i had an access port for my Subaru and i loved having it and switching tunes on the go/logging information.

      yeah i was worried but the tune has been on 2,000 miles now and its running just like it did the day i got the tune! and the BoV was like 70 bucks. i only bought a spacer to make it vent out into the air to give it the noise for now.

      Mike2469 ok yeah that's how mine was as well and it still sounded great to me. But I think what really put it over the top was after I got the tune the additional boost just made the bov even louder from it needed to vent more air !

      Thanks, appreciate it. Did the dealership charge you any labor? I know this is a port flash and takes like 20-30 minutes depending on the car. What would you say is the most noticeable difference from stock?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  8 років тому

      derekjlight yeah they did charge me 1hr of labor. But I didn't mind since it keeps my warranty. But the most noticeable difference I would say is the increased torque. And the power delivery, the car is much much better with the Stage 1

      So you still keep the warranty ? I'm really surprised. And the VW dealership did the tune ? How come ? Did you tell him something special to him ? What about wheels spinning

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      Yes as long as you don't go stage 2 i can keep the warranty. and thats for the motor mainly. if anything else happens it's still covered. and yeah the VW dealership had all the APR cables and software. I didn't need to say anything special to them. as far as wheel spin it spins 1st, 2nd and part of 3rd but it was still semi cold out when i got the tune so ill need to wait for summer to really see how she runs!

    I never understood why people would get this car in a 6-speed manual when Volkswagen makes a half decent dual clutch that you can just get instead.

      i just like to drive manual. i feel more connected with the car. thanks for you're input though man appreciate it.

    You installed a blow off valve? Why?? You do realize that you lose precious torque from the rest being blown off right?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      AllOutNoobHater I haven't noticed a difference honestly. But I don't need anymore torque ! Haha my clutch is started to slip at lower rpms

    • @SolaraBass

      Ben I would say APR. but I have also never been in a revo tuned car or dove one !

      Only thing with REVO is that there are adjustable map options (for octane and anti theft etc)

    Hey this is a great video. One thing I noticed is that you had to look behind you a couple of times to check traffic. Try setting your left-right mirrors correctly (aiming wider) - you should never have to turn your head more than 1/4 either direction to see your blind-spot..

    how much for this bruh?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому +1

      The APR stage 1 tune is $699! The most horsepower and torque for your money spent out of anything you can do to this platform.

    • @GawkGawkGliz
      @GawkGawkGliz 7 років тому +1

      OH NICE! How much total HP gain from this mod? Also, did you have to change any other parts, i.e., spark plugs?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      HowYer Durrin I can't give you the exact numbers. But it's over 90hp and 100tq total on the dyno numbers APR shows. But no Stage 1 can be done fully stock no additional parts or mods required.

      You look like you are enjoying it big time! Congrats! I just installed a cat-back track exhaust from AWE. I also just ordered their catted performance downpipe. Ive been reading that once you have a this turbo back exhaust setup, you should go with stage 2 APR. What do you think?

    • @SolaraBass
      @SolaraBass  7 років тому

      Oh yeah it is so much fun! Nice purchase!! but yeah to get to full potential out of your exhaust setup stage 2 would be the best thing you would do. It would a very big increase! Only thing you would need to look out for is some clutch slip with the stage 2 ! Also some people have problems with stock spark plugs with going stage too and need performance ones!
