I absolutely my sporty. It's a 1200 and anyone who says you can't go on long rides on them have never ridden one before. I rode from LA to SF and back it handled the long distance just fine. And I have no rear suspension so I don't want to hear about how you can't go far on those bikes. It was the most comfortable ride I've ever been to using my baggage as a back rest. Next I plan to go coast to coast. From California to Virginia and back.
Agreed. I rode my 1200 Sportster from Austin to LA to SF and back to Austin, and loved it! I had 18" apes on a 6" riser, which made for a fun, stylin' ride. Turned a lot of heads. I ride aggressively, so I'm swapping the handlebars for something much more manageable, but otherwise a great bike
I haven't been too far on my forty-eight as of yet but i love every moment of it. No upgraded suspension. Just a saddlemen seat coming in and i got a daymaker headlight. For country roads i love the bike.
Ya it's totally doable. My first bike was xl1200 and I went from redding to san Diego in a single summer day once. Was fine. Did melt an oil o ring seal though, but the bike didn't care ha. Hey it broke 115f that day, not surprised. New seal, topped it off, runs fine to this day
I have a 1988 sportster. To this day the evo sportster seems to be the most supported platform when it comes to traveling. I’ll be riding mine to Mexico along with a bunch of other sporty guys in may. The evo motor is stupid reliable with proper maintenance and everyone and their goddamn mother can work on one it’s so simple. You can turn it into a cafe racer, a hooligan tracker, sport bike (check out Buell) and a touring bike. I will always have a sporty. I honeslty love mine, but Deffo getting a more modern bike like a pan america as well
I have a sportster 1200 and am getting a rebel 1100. I tend to lean towards cruisers due to medical since being hit on my sv650. In my mind the rebel is the complete opposite of my iron 1200. Sometimes I like to be on my “old school” style iron 1200. But when I don’t want to melt my thighs at a red light, the rebel is going to be my go to. Sportier engine for when I want to feel closer to standard/sport bike acceleration and feel. It gives me that balanced stable you were talking about.
@@antoniocampos6627 Fair point. I don’t feel like paying the HD tax again for a secondary bike. I’m not a fan of the new sportster either. The rebel is simpler and does exactly what I need. Gives me cruiser positioning with a sport/adventure power plant. Then when I feel like it, I can ride my older HD for that classic feel.
The Roadster actually has what has been referred to as a "walnut" tank, the peanut gas tank is 2.2 Gallons give or take but the walnut is larger at 3.3 Gallons, bike will get around 50 miles on the hiway so you are looking at about 125 miles between gas stops (farther if you wanna ride with the fuel light on for a while) I would consider that pretty good range but maybe not by cruiser or adventure bike standards...
That was a fair review. That Roadster will look just fine all by it’s self in my shed. It will only be in there a couple hours a day. Did I mention this will be my first bike ? Well… it is. Thank you
So I was cross-shopping any and all cruisers early last year. Was looking at the Rebel 1100, Sportster 1200, a used V-Rod, or used Fat Bob. I'm 6'2", 52" chest, 48" waist, 52" hips. Needless to say all but the Fat Bob felt very small and cramped. So I ended up with a 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. Do not regret my decision one bit.
My hot take: 04-07 Roadsters feel better then the one in this video. 2nd hot take: with the right bars (I agree with him these bars suck), the right suspension, a steering damper they can handle pretty dang well in the twisties (watch my videos if you don't believe me) Lastly, the bike has changed A TON since 86. It started as an 883/1100 with a 4 speed and no rubber mounts. Also, small fin cylinders. Then they added the 5 speed trans, punched it to 1200, later on then adding the big fin cylinders and better cams, rubbermount engine, and eventually fuel injection. Yes, the Evo motor shares say 70% parts since inception but it's a very different bike now than it was back then. It's not really fair to say it hasn't changed. Just a man's thoughts having ridden one for 12 years, and riding a whole tin of other bikes from all manufactures.
Dear Yammie, I'd enjoy you mentioning the ultimate air cooled Harley Davidson, the XR1200 Sportster, especially the later X models with the revised suspension. This bike shows what Harley can do with a relatively inexpensive motorcycle straight from the factory. Admittedly much of the engine comes from Buell, however Buell was part of Harley. Buell's & XR1200's sold very well in Europe but were kinda orphaned in America...
Love your videos I do own a 2022 sportster 1200. I honestly like the bike very much. It is easy to handle. It is more than enough power for me as I rarely am looking to go over 100 mph. I just wish it had a six gear for when you are on the highway. The bike really feels like it is straining big time with only five gears and the vibration up through the handlebars is a little tough. But it is such a fun bite to drive otherwise specially around town
I was cross shopping between the Scout and Rebel in 2021. I never even looked at the Harleys. I wanted the tech, I wanted the modern engine. Australia, so prices are different but the Scout was $21,000 and the Rebel was $19,000 drive away. I wanted the Scout because I wanted that "American cruiser" but I settled on the Rebel because Harley did not have what I was looking for and Scout had nothing but ABS. I get Fridays off so I am ready and decided on Tuesday to walk into the dealer then and put money down. That was on the 12th of July 2021. On the Wednesday I see a HD announcement video with the Sportster S. An authentic American bike with a modern engine, the complete electronics package and a likely aftermarket that would allow me to build the bike exactly for me. I took one look at this bike that had not even hit dealerships for test rides and then chased down the numbers. $26,500 instead of 19K for the Rebel and I still found myself at the Harley dealership that Friday. I had spent 18 months reviewing bikes and instantly knew I wanted the Sportster S on the day it was announced. It is not about what is best, it is about what you are looking for. When I decided on the Honda Rebel, I already knew it was a mistake for me even though it is a great bike. I wanted an American cruiser, not an excellent modern interpretation of one.
Well I went to the local HD to just get one - any one, but preferably a Sportster, I had decided that if I didn't get a (another) bike that day I wasn't ever going to....HD are next to Honda, so I did look at the CMX (Rebel) 1100 as well. Bugger I got the Honda....... 🤔😏
So crazy. I was just looking at the sportster 1200 this morning and come home to find out papa yam did a full comprehensive. Do you follow an algorithm or something because almost every bike I wanna look at it’s like… you know 🤔

Sup broski have you considered being your own stig? I think the seating position is for the track (I know nothing about racing tho) I think it would be fun to see you on a king of the baggers vlog. Cheers
I think you did a good job - the different value preposition from different brands and different ride. Few things like the attention to details which Harley does and the material used, paint were a miss. I agree the suspension from HARLEY is bad man. For day to day usage the power is good enough for this cafe to cafe bike. It’s cool bike mate. I also love what other brands have to offer and those newer models from other brands which are liquid cooled will always perform better than air cooled Evo motors. Harley is more like torque machines that you can ride easy plus great built ( metal switch gears etc). Also you mention desert sledge or something like that which is Ducati. I think those bikes are not for all simple because of its height.
