Hey yammie,
New rider here, I was wonder if you could make a video on what to do when someone approaches your bike/wants to fight you on your bike? New rider and I’m just wondering if the basic and/or unspoken/written rules to when someone borderline assaults you while your on your bike.
Django are awesome.
Love my 95 sportster 1200! Ive had fast bikes in the past but theres something special about this bike. Im 51, im over pushing the limits. Ive seen tunnel vision, survived and now its time to enjoy the ride.
Yammie Noob, small correction; Sportsters never had overhead 'cams' ... overhead valves yes. Cams are 'still ' in the same place as the 'K' model , side valve engine.
The sportster is good enough for the hells angels so theres that.
Only the 1200s. HA don't allow anything under 1000cc

I have always felt that a sporty is what made harley a harley. Evo motor is probably one of the best engines they ever did.
Amen to that
Nahh. M8 is now, the best motor they have done. No other motor does 150hp with bolt in parts.
@@jarrodhowell1101 but we are yet to see how they hold up, EVOs will run forever, even giving some hondas and yamahas a run for their money
Knuckle head made harley the true power plant and set in motion the hog its 2day
Jarrod Howell that is NOT true.
The sportster will go down in history as the greatest motorcycle of all time. Bar none. Thanks for the kind words, can’t wait to head out there and hang with y’all!!
Nah, the Cub still has that locked.

I totally agree,I just bought my first Harley a 2014 Sportster 883 XL superlow and I love it I'm going to mod and upgrade things on it over time, but its here to stay in my family for life
Absolutely no ducking way…. Shit power. Shit brakes. Shit electronics. Shit weight. Shit suspension. And a waaaaaay too expensive price tag.
How is that a good thing?
The Sportster is really one of the last real Harleys left in their lineup.
The only Harley I’d buy would be a sportster. I’m not a big guy and the 48 is one beautiful bike. The sportster is more of a traditional Harley than any other Harley offered period.
Dyna?
Levi Wilson real Dyna maybe not the softail version
@@paintslinger16 Even though they were making Softails alongside the Dynas for many years... and the new Softail bikes are flat out better than the Dynas in every metric?
Huh. Okay.
Everyone always talks about how much hate the sportsters get yet I’ve never even heard anyone talk bad about sportsters.
@@TheTightSqueeze everybody loves my sporty nearly as much as I do.
I get alot of shit for my forty-eight but also get some love sometimes so I'm a little in the middle.
I have an 883, like I said I’ve never really heard people talking bad about the sporty. Minus guys who don’t like harleys in general.
If someone tells me that my sportster is for p*****s or it’s a lady’s bike, I laugh in their face and burn rubber while I leave them behind me.
When I think of Harley I picture the Sportster
Regardless of your feelings, size, or preferences , the best bike is the one you're on
Why to guys get Touring bikes? More comfort, therefore that makes a Sportster less comfortable. If something is less comfortable why is it less manly? Are men too weak to endure the Sportster that it is only for those that can pop out a baby are able to ride it? Man up boys.
William Krcelic naah, the ones that hate on it only hate it because it aint designed for their fat af beer drinking and burger eating bellys.
I've had someone tell me my sportster is a girls bike because it has a lower seat height therefore it's easier for women to ride. There is no logic to the hog boys hating on the Sportster.
@@spencegame by that logic the new SportGlide is just as much of a girls bike, as the Iron 1200 and SportGlide are both a 27.5 inch seat hight. And the Breakout sits even lower at 25.6.... hell, the touring bikes are not even a half inch higher at 26.1..... Not to mention that the 48 sits higher than the touring bikes at 26.2, and the Roadster at almost 30 inch.... the seat hight thing is such bullshit
Exactly.
If anyone judges you negatively for the type of bike you ride, just know that it says a lot more about them than it does about you. Ride whatever you want. Be safe and have fun!
The bottom end on the Sportster has a long H-D lineage, it can be directly traced to the 1929 "Flathead" motor. The "Ironhead" top end came out in 1957 and the "Evolution" top end dates back to 1986. H-D's "Flat Tracker" XR-750 using a modified Sportster motor, won 29 out of the 37 AMA Grand National Championships between 1972 and 2008. The Sportster is indeed a true Harley-Davidson, I'm 64 years old and I've owned a 2011 XL883N from new. These Big Twin owning Sportster haters remind me of a "Gentleman's Sausage Measuring Competition", they are totally childish and are growing old before they've grown up.
I would not have Sayed so politely but agree 💯.
Good point.
I don't care what anyone says...
Sportsters look mean asf
That's because they are!
They're not, they're loud and underpowered.
But there's something to be said for a bike that shakes as though it's as excited to go riding as you are.
@@dudemcfurgusson7179 sportster are NOT loud stock. Also they were never meant to be a high horsepower bike so....
@@dudemcfurgusson7179 u gotta get aftermarket pipes for it to be loud
I love sportsters. Own 2. Just made a 1300 mile trip on mine to the Gulf of Mexico on backroads. Nothing more American than that.
Here in México sportsters are one of the biggest bikes on the roads
Dude the one I bought in El Paso was a repo and I thhiiinnkkk it was repo’d in Juarez. All the parts are made in Mexico City. Honestly took me a year to even notice lmaoooo
I like the sportster, just the iron 1200 and forty-eight
48 is hooot, the fat tires looks amazing, at least to me ( the tank size is a joke tho jaja )
I like the Nightster along with the 48.
You basically just covered there entire lineup of new sportsters besides the roadster
I like the 883
@@the-fog-is-here I have a 2020 883 and just had the stage 1 done . its like a different bike .. huge Grin factor
Loving my ‘02 Sporty 883. May eventually convert it to 1275, but its a great bike, lots of fun, looks good, and is paid for! 😎🇺🇸
Imma be honest, I personally love harley davidson. Being a young 19 yr old in college I've been loving the 1200 sportster. Got it cheap used and did some work on it. Theres soemthing about having a harley that having a honda shadow doesnt have. I know it's kinda bs but I feel like a harley has a lot of soul in it rather than my first bike (honda shadow VT600). To each their own. But personally would love to own an old shovel head. That being said I think harley should start to spread its wings instead of sticking with just the main line up of v twins. Would love to have them come out with some supermotos. I know they will be a little late to the party but I feel like if they want to truly last they should focus on spreading out kinda how they did with the livewire. Leave a like if u like the sportster too🙂
I almost forgot about the vrod too
I guess it all depends too, my dad used to build those coffin tank choppers, he was in an MC so I grew up surrounded by Harley. Harley everything everywhere, and I love the bikes and love the looks, but from my perspective being surrounded by it, for me different engine configurations are actually more fascinating, and some of these so called soulless inline 4s with supposedly no character are actually very intriguing to me. At the end of the day though the experiences and memories have always meant the most to me no matter what the ride, and with that said I don't care what anyone rides, if you like something then just ride it, who cares. 🤙🏼🏍
Hello Mung, next year my Sporty'll be 30! and she's going strong, Yup, old bikes and
older ladies. . .typ 1200 c.ceez could ride all day long, There are a lot of great bikes
out there, but like anything else, the bike you like the best is the one your on, at the
moment anyway.
If they get rid of the HD sporty, HD will die lol
like you said the in the video, sporties are what kept HD afloat for their other bikes.
If they just updated the sportster and sold middleweight bikes that are affordable, they'd flurish, but nope. HD is stupid.
It’s dead
I'm a slightly bigger guy 5'8" 215lbs with a hard labor build. I love my 03 883. I ride it every where. Yes I do take back roads and scenic route because 75mph highway isn't where the sportster shines. But I still love my 883. Its paid for and rides weekly, screw the haters.
Speaking of sportsters as a blank canvas in 1999 I bought a 883 sporty. A black peanut tank with Sportster 883 painted on it. I had it rebuilt to 1200 to give me power when I wanted it. Not enough to make it blow up in the heat of summer but outrun the big twins and compression that let my peanut tank outrun a twin cam on a trip with ease. During a Laughlin River Run it was parked. A guy was up close looking at it with the V&H 2-1 Pro Pipe. He smirked when he saw me walk up. When I smiled and started it up he looked shocked and backed up 10 feet mouthing “what the hell”
If you have a stable of bikes, the Sportster is 100% a must have for the collection. A legend and a classic that's not a sell out retro, but the real thing.
I’m a new rider and recently bought a 2012 Harley Sportster 48 and I couldn’t be happier. Perhaps it’s my lack of experience but I love this motorcycle.
My 1st bike after 25 years of not riding was a 2016 Sportster Lowrider. Everytime I go to a Harley dealer they keep trying to get me to trade it in for a larger bike. Not going to do it. Love riding this.
27 year ago I bought a 883 Sportster. The dealer signed me up with H.O.G. Harley Owners Group. At that time if you bought a new Harley, you got a years membership free. Kinda neat but I didn't sign up for it after a year for the same reason. The factory wanted me to buy a FLH cause they make more money on a hog than a Sporty. I always felt it was as if GM wanted Corvette owners to trade it in for a SUV.
@@johnoakes3106 They still do the same today. It doesn't matter what dealership I walk into, if I mention I ride a sportster they immediately asked if I've ever thought about trading in for a bigger bike. I'm not trading my sporty for shit. It's my first bike and I enjoy it too much
Thanks for another interesting and informative video 🤘🏻🇺🇸
The Sportster is Overhead Valve, not Overhead Cam!
these guys don't know shit
It don't need no overhead cam!
I had a 1990 when I was 16, bought a 1998 brand new, still have it. I upgraded a few things , but I still like old tech.
My first harley i bought brand new back in 1984 was a Sporster ...To this day I still hold that bike close to my heart I have been riding big twins since 1987 but still miss that sporster back then I had to hear from all my friends about my Half a Harley ...
It has been one of the longest runs of Harleys since 1954 I think correct me if I'm wrong thats says alot about Harley Davidson and the Sporster ....
I have a 2012 sportster 72 and I love it. I would take my sporty any day over my CBR. By the way it’s pretty much mandatory to put a set of aftermarket pipes, air cleaner and tuner. Then ride the shit out of it
I love my Sportster 72 and I’m 57! It’s a great bike to ride and tear around mountain roads. A very different ride from my Street Glide. I’m hoping H-D continues to build the Sportster line!
Delzona I’m also 57 & on my 3rd Sportster, a 1995 1200 in mint condition currently set up with Roadster bars. This bike is awesome & always puts a smile on my face, more so than when I ride my Heritage. I’ll never let that bike go, so much fun to ride, especially in the twisties, stay safe!
Spite^s Harley content is awesome!
I would love to see Yam on an FXDR. I bet he would grin and love/hate it.
Got the Roadster for 3 months now put over 5,000km on it! love every single bit of it!!! RIDE WHAT YOU LOVE!
883N with an S&S 1200 Hooligan kit. Now I’m rockin....
Hahaha, loved Yammie at the end of the video. He reminded me just the way you looked and sounded like a young JR Ewing.
Far as the Sportster goes, when I was young it was my dream bike. I think it was 1970 or maybe 1971 there was a beautiful green one in the showroom where I all too often had to go to get parts for my gutless but pretty 500 Triumph.
I'm a millennial, and I'm a huge sucker for a fat front tire. Harley Sportsters are what got me into bikes in the first place. I'm scratching that itch now with a Honda Rebel, but I would be crushed if they were discontinued before I'm able to buy one.
Buy a used one. I just bought a 2004 1200 with 8k miles
Love my 08 nightster. With head work and cams, I’ll give any big twin a serious run for its money. She pulls on the highway real hard, and does not quit.
I love sportsters. And i feel the same way about road kings. They are fun simple bikes. I have an 04 road king and I want another sportster, probably next spring sometime
I inherited my Sportster from my dad and honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better bike to start riding on. It's a 2004, carburated, and prefers to get donkey kicked to change gears rather than just a lil love tap on some newer rides but I love it so much. In 15 years, I'll look back on my first ride the same way I think about my first love.
64 years of continuous production. It gives you the true feeling of riding a motorcycle and especially a Harley-Davidson.
The V-twin motorcycle with more years of continuous production, by the same brand, in the same country. It is a living legend and very current, it is very funny.
I have owned a Harley-Davidson SPORTSTER for 15 years and from zero miles. I have ridden it for more than 80,000 kms. It makes me very happy.
Ride Free, Ride safe, Ride Fun.
I test rode a new Sportster 1200, and it was comfortable, super welcoming and easy for a new rider to hop on. Only complaint was foot pegs vs floor boards for long distance comfort
Just got my 2021 iron 883 and I was expecting it to be really slow but the power is super smooth on it and perfect for cruising
The sportster is the best bike Harley-Davidson makes, anyone that knows motors know can understand, it’s like a 350 Chevy motor keeps going
Seriously, love the sportster and I'm not a group rider at all, so buying one is no problem, but when I do, I'll end up in jail with the first dude that calls it a bitch bike.
Harley sales 💲💹
Yammi saves Harley.
Just came off a Road KIng after 13 yearsand bought an 883. Great bike, performs a hell of a lot better than I remembered
Upvoted purely for that yammie texas goodness at the end. The rest of the video was good, but that - was priceless.
I love my 2018 Iron 1200. It's the third Sportster I've owned, and I'll probably keep it until I die (I'm 54). It makes plenty of power for my needs. I'm honestly not interested in any other bike in Harley's current line up. Not saying I'll never buy another bike, but the Sportster stays. They are (relatively) simple, and there are a *ton* of aftermarket mods you can do to them.
I own an 05 Road King, and 18 Steet Bob, but just love the Sportster as well, the type of bike I'd buy just to park in my living room to look at! 21 year old son just picked up a great 1 owner 89 Sportster. God bless!
I bought an XL1200CP back in 2013 and I really like the bike after all the upgrades. Old-school cruiser setup. Progressive suspension front & rear, Screamin' Eagle 2 kit, Mustang saddle seat, windshield, running lites, saddle bags, buckhorn handle bars (I hated the cafe style bars), Vance & Hines "Twin Slash" mufflers, and a luggage rack. I have it set up for solo riding. Plenty of power and lots of fun to ride. And now, it will become a relic since Harley has stopped making them and replaced them with their version of a Honda that sells for $22,000! It's paid for and hauls me around just fine. Even the dealer says I have it set up real nice. Big Blue Pearl factory colors looks sweet and old-school with white wall tires. In 2013 the custom came with a FAT front tire and I like it too! I wish I could post a photo with this comment. It looks sweet! From my experience, more people like the Sporty than hate it. Solid engine that is easy to maintain. I parked it for 3 years and almost sold it but, now I know I will never sell it! I now have 23,000 miles on it. I do need to put the racing clutch in it so I can rid it of the weak point it has....the "Flex Plate" that is two plates riveted with brass rivets that will leave you stranded when the rivets fail. The kit adds an extra clutch plate. Maybe this spring....I do all my own maintenance. Nice to be able to tweak the fuel injection with a laptop.
I just bought a 2004 883 with a nice new carb, rev tech ignition goodies, a good tune and Vance n Hines short staggereds. This bike runs very damn good! I don't get but 38mpg but it is a screamer. I've owned alot of bikes, i have ridden about everything, this damn thing is crazy fun!
What a great video....and it's right on the money. The Sporty is great no matter what
Yammie you're amazing..I said it, it's real. I bow to you
Hey Yammie, I know this might get lost in the reactions but I have a question for you. I live in the EU in the Netherlands, so over here we have the A1, A2, A code 80 and A licenses for motorrcycles.
I want to get a motorcycle and my preferred choice is the Honda cbr500r which fallls under the A2 license (just a quick mention, I am 20 at the moment) but I believe the lessons for A license and A2 license cost the same but of course the driving lessons and difficulty might be differen so I wanted to ask for your advice and opinion. Also just to mention, I drive a motorbike (sorry I don't know what to call it but it is a scooter but with shifting so basically a motorcycle limited to 30 miles per hour) so I am a little confident in my ability with shifting and all that kind of stuff.
Yet I still want to ask you if you have any advice for me, I know this might be way too personal of a question but I still want to ask it.
Besides my question there are actually quite a few people that I know that drive motorbikes (Same thing as I myself drive that I mentioned earlier but don't know what to call it) and I believe that maybe a video more focussed on european fans might get a lot of views.
Of course this is just my opinion and these were just a few things I wanted to ask/mention since I have actually already learned quite a lot from your channel even though I don't even own a bike yet.
Am I the only one who appreciates the classical music backdrops in all these Yam-vids??
People seem to forget that the K model and Sportster were the factory race bikes of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. They would smoke just about any other bike on the road at the time into the early 70's. They devolved into their current form, but they're still fun as hell. Oh, and you forgot that the increase to 1000 cc was in the early 70's. Before that they were called 900s (883 cc).
Sold my Yamaha a hear ago and bought a 2019 HD Iron 1200. Gonna have it for a long time. The fact that the only thing I’ve done to it is change the exhaust and it still smokes these other Harley’s and cruisers I’ve ran into is insane. I’ve more than once almost came off the back of it. Even taken it down to NC (IND to NC) and back with just a change of the seat. My brothers Elytra Glide is sooo nice but for what I do, my Iron is the way to go.
My 2000 1200S is a great sport bike. Dual ignition, dual discs in front, V&H pipes and Screamin' Eagle upgrade. It's only got 10K miles on it! I've left it stock and got it from an estate sale.
How can a bike that’s been in production since 1957 NOT BE a “real” Harley?
The Sportster's bottom end can directly trace it's heritage back to the 1929 'Flathead" motor.
why do you only have 4 'likes'?

I agree with everything you said besides 1 thing, the best sportster to buy is a 04 1200 custom, u start with the blank canvas but already have the 1200 in it
I love my Sporty and it's a "little" 2005 XL883 standard with a carb and mip-pegs. Simple, bulletproof, easy to work on, available parts, always starts, never breaks down and has never burned, dripped or leaked a drop of oil. I do NOT like the Iron or Low models because the rear shocks don't work and the seats are paper thin.
Btw... bought a ridge wallet a while ago. But I also have a leather Harley Davidson one in my top drawer. My 883 is a lot of fun. Doesnt need to be super fast. Has enough to do whatever I need to do. Glad you're putting out some positive and negative things out about the sportster. The main thing for me is just the character that comes from the iron.
My first bike was an 883 super low. I have had akl the big bikes. Warrior 1700, vrod, gsxr 1000. But after my last motorcycle accident i went back to my roots and got a blue 2005 883. Honestly love the. Call its little blue
I just bought an 18 forty-eight today. My fist bike and im eager to ride it. Got a really good deal on it and the previous owner added a lot of accessories to it.
I want to thank yammie for keeping texas yammie outro 😊
Great vid Spite.
My best friend is a die-hard naked bike and super sport guy and when i bought my 48 he was joking about getting it to the scrap and so on all day long...
Yet someday he said "I think i need to try this now" and when he was finished test riding it, he said "i wouldn't buy one, but it's not bad"
And he smiled at it with the "damn boy" smile we all do after riding a sportster.
After that he could do as many jokes about it as he wanted - i knew it was some sort of his guilty pleasure now XD
Thanks for some much, MUCH needed reality.
My stage 3 1200 Evo Sporty is a bat out of hell up to 90 mph lol. Bought an Evo as a project bike and fell in love with it over my Softail and Road Glide. It’s just fucking fun and feisty.
Let the old fat guys talk shit while they ride their brakes through corners. 🤘
Sportsters are fun as heck and I'll tell you why... Not all of us are Rossi, spending days on days on the track, and its hard as hell to actually make use of a sport bike. Sportsters are great because its just so fun to redline it every shift when hitting an on ramp, and feels so cool when you're folding your footpeg up 45 degrees and dragging it the entire way through a turn. It's so much easier on a sportster for the average rider to use it at 100% and push its limit. Makes you smile.
I just bought a rebuilt 86 sporty, powdercoated frame, and covers, with an HD 1200 kit for just over $3k.
Blank canvas, runs like a top, and I don't have to worry about warranty rules.
I road mine from n.m. to the 100th in Milwaukee and back, no problems.
Just did a full stage 1 on mine and I kept up on the freeway with the big boys no problem. I love the poor mans Dyna.
I love My 2002 sportster 1200 XL c love it!!!!!
Springer *front ends* (and the rest of the bike it's connected to) are plush af. You must have meant spring seats on hard tails. They are cool... If you also have a touring bike.
I love sportys. I just ran into a guy in my neighborhood with a really nice looking 1200. Blacked out with z bars, just looked great. He had a sticker on the air cleaner cover that said, "Yes its a fucking sportster". People still break balls over riding a sporty. Unbelievable.
I got a Heritage with a 113ultima putting down 120/120 and I can't wait to get a sportster one day!
Whoa there partner, what about the xl1200c, vintage 2000& up? I've beaten plenty of bigger cc bikes with mine in first gear races at bike rallies!
Tragically youre absolutely right that the sportster wasn't long for the world. My engine imploded and I discovered that they discontinued the evo sportster last year or so
heyy, i subscribed on your website for the discord access, but the link doesnt work, ive sent an email but got nothing back, any ideas?
The best bike I've owned is my current sportster. It's not the bike, it's what we have been through. The blast I've had with my friends. I crossed the mighty mac, driven 100+ miles for food, and grilled a million brats at parks all over Michigan. Ride what you got
I ❤️ ❤️❤️ the Sportster, on my 3rd. The most visceral, evocative and involving bike you can still buy new off the showroom floor today. It's like being able (allowed) to still buy a brand new 1960's V8 muscle car from your local dealer today!! Entertain that thought for a moment... What true petrol head wouldn't want one?!?!
Love my 2017 Roadster!!
I have an 04 Sportster and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. It's one of 3 bikes I own that I will never get rid of. It's super simple to work on and honestly it's fun as hell to ride. I do think the sportster needs to be updated a bit since for the most part my 04 isn't much different than a brand new sportster, EFI being the biggest difference.
They don't wanna mess too much with perfection though. They know the Sportster is their most reliable and popular bike on the market. Far more reliable than the big twins yet old technology. Harley crafted a true gem with the Sportster

I just bought a 2002 sportster 1200c. Best bike I’ve ever owned, hands down and the last real Harley left.
That outro is my new favorite 🤣☠️
Love my Sportster. Yes, it has a few mods to make it my own - all installed by me. Sure, there are a lot of things it doesn't do well, but the one thing it does very well is put a smile on my face. Even when riding through rain, fog, freezing fog, hail, or stupid-cold I have to smile and laugh -- at my own gullibility for believing the weather-guessers and getting myself into this...

@@parkersgarage4216 no, grew up just down the road, outside Pittsburgh. Now in the Colorado Springs area.
Philip Staite lol ok not too far away though
The sportster is the future of Harley. The same way the downsized 77 Caprice replaced the massive land yacht that was before.
With the roadster, you will need to change the peg position as it is just weird for your knees in stock.
I'm an Outlaws probate and ride a sporty with a big bore kit and a bunch of other mods I can run with the big guys all day. I actually out run alot of them.
"....but this time it featured an overhead cam."
Um...nope. It featured overhead _valves_. To the best of my recollection, the first US-made Harley with overhead cams was the V-Rod.

Nice 2 wheel mowers, potato potatoes potatoes, reminds me of that Southpark episode in regards to Harleys, lol
I’m not gonna lie I rode the fat bob on a test ride and I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing while on it. Was the single most fun experience on two wheels I’ve ever had mainly because it’s the most torque I’ve ever had to play with on a bike
Yammie Nob awesome.
Peace from Indonesia.
S & S produce a 100ci (1640cc) upgrade kit for Sportster's, it produced 137 HP at the rear wheel and 178 Nm of torque. Those are serious figures.
Springers are 100% for looks. Hardtails are 95% looks. I recommend riding one at least once. The energy that usually squats your rear suspension goes straight to the ground. It's an experience.
Ha that picture of the nightster @10:14 is from a dealer down the road from me
I was looking at getting a harley once i get the appropriate licence. Ill have to think about it for now and see how i go
My 1998 xl1200s , vibrates so much it is hardly rideable after 45 minutes or so. Slow too. Looks fabulous though. Handling: completely beside the point.
I tell my 48 I love it every time I get off of it.
Not to overshadow the excellent talking points made in the video.... But Holy shit Cowboy Yam. Lmfao. Thanks guys
