I have a serious inflammatory illness that has become debilitating over the last few months and Yarrow has been on my radar and I’ve been wanting to grow it. Yesterday I went outside and there was Yarrow all over my front lawn so I harvested it all. A tincture is brewing and some are drying to be used to make oil for a salve. It was like manna from Heaven, a wink from The Creator.

I was delighted to identify the plant which I have been picking and storing all my life (in Croatia). First time I meet its English name. In my Croatian plant books they mention that some people might be sensitive (or even allergic) to yarrow so you should start easy. Maybe that's why the dog sneezed so much. We use it for stomach problems too. I enjoyed the video which brought me back to my youth, when I started picking yarrow. Thank you!

I am so glad you found my comment of interest. Thank you!Sorry but I don't know any English books on that matter. One herb that you definitely mustn"t miss, and it is flourishing all summer, is hypericum perforatum (its Latin name), and popularly called Our Lady's herb (Gospina trava), or Iva trava (Iva herb). Infusion is scientifically accepted as a mild sedative, also good for liver. When freshly cut flowers are soaked in olive oil, its excellent for skin diseases.
Maybe Latin names could lead you to correspondent plants. E.g.yarrow is achillea millefolium.
I wish you a good harvest of herbs! If I find other Latin names, I can write them down for you. Kind regards!

Love the neanderthal reference. Those ancients must have been walking botanical encyclopaedias.
The other day I noticed deer eating something on a rough, mixed area of lawn. Then yesterday as I walked the area I noticed this plant amongst the others. "Yarrow" popped into my head out of the blue. Part personal memory, part ancestral memory and partly the yarrow calling out to me I like to think.

Thanks for this. Fascinating. I thought it was too strong to take internally due to clotting. I stick leaves on cuts when I'm gardening to great effect. It doesn't seem to like my current garden, maybe the soil is too moist or nutritious. I'll find a rough place for it.

Yes, it tends to apparently prefer previously disturbed hard ground, particularly an old dirt road, gravel driveway, walkways etc. compared to nice, dark & fluffy garden soil. Also, partial to dappled shade produces a darker green leaf and overall healthier looking plant than full sun, in my experience.

I introduced a friend of my kids to yarrow today, she had a cut on her leg. The great thing is you can find it just about everywhere - including well mowed lawns, minus the flowers of course.
I love the flavour of the leaves, it's similar to parsley. Take it from me, it goes really well with fish.
