I can watch hours worth of pinch nerve info related videos online and still get more info and motivation out of your videos. Everyone obviously takes note on your medical knowledge, but let's not take for granted how well you motivate as you teach in these videos. That's what sets you apart for me. I'm learning, but interested in the way you dialogue the info. Pure genius. Thanks Doctor Mandell!

What is strange for me is that I get cold sensations and occasional needle prick but never any numbness, no muscle weakness, etc.The cold sensations run throughout the left side of body ....from shoulder to lower leg. I went to ER thinking I had a stroke but they determined it was non life threatening but only referred me to neurologist with no medication. Today for the first time I experienced burning in the chest and took Advil. Iwon’t be able to see neurologist till next week, so not sure what nerve is affected. I’ve been using Advil in the meantime.

I’ve got a pinched nerve in my wrist - carpel tunnel - that goes all the way up my shoulder and neck and down to my fingertips. First night it locked up my neck but I’m just into my second week and I’ve seen a chiropractor and had a 1 hr deep tissue massage and I’m just getting to where I can sleep and have a normal day with muscle relaxers and pain blockers. I’m on day 3 of week 2 and finally seeing the light. The chiropractic adjustment and massage really helped. Good luck to everyone!

I’m suffered a pinched, Sciatica from my L5,L4 disc. I had the worst flair up from nowhere. My pain management Dr. had me on high doses of opioids and nerve medication which gave me NO relief. After spending days in the hospital for this issue, I left with a walker and more pain medication(which still does not work). I came across your video about how to get relief for a pinched sciatic nerves. I’ve tried just about everything known to man so I thought hey why not try this it’s not like I’m put in anything is out of my body. You demonstrated how to find the exact location parallel or adjacent to our lower but that area. And place our Knupple in the paint area and roll on it and I must say I thank you so so much. That has been the only thing that has given me relief. With no opioids no pills no anything just the simple trigger points action you demonstrated has really helped me tremendously. Needless to say my organs thank you I thank you and my family thank you. I wish I can do a commercial for you cause I would for free LOL. It’s now been three days since I’ve tried the trigger point and each day is getting better and better.I can actually walk without my walker and when I feel the pain coming onI quickly began using the trigger point action I don’t understand why these pain management doctors don’t know this or do not advise their patients about this simple action to take instead of keep piling on up will you always on top of opioids was up opioids.

Hey doc I watch your videos all the time you're an inspiration for me especially the last year and a half been dealing with pinched nerves in my neck and my upper back things have gotten better only issue I really have right now is a pinched nerve in the neck which is making my occipital muscle spasm basically nerve pain in the greater nerve I'm doing all kinds of things but like you said it takes time. Out of all the pinched nerves in my upper back and neck throughout this whole time there was only one moderate nerve pinching in the neck everything else was mild for the MRI I took. Which is promising I've come through so much with this from being severe pain last year to at least mild pain but the mild pain still in the neck makes it feel terrible with all the occipital neuralgia I get.

You're 100% correct doc. Early discovery of THE CAUSE is vital.
I unfortunately had bad doctors thst just kept pumping me full of painkillers. This led to the nerve sheef/protective cover being torn and then scare tissue development in the same area. And NOW its unfixable (its in my neck so very little wiggle room to cut out scar tissue without a high error rate).
So hopefully anymore reading this DEMAND your docs find the exact cause, never just settle for here's some pain meds it will go away in time.

I had a "bulging disk" and was in excruciating pain for 2 months. I was getting better, went to a physical therapist and that literally set me back an easy 3 weeks. What they said to do, literally and logically made no sense to me. They had me doing exercises that pinch and compressed the disk more?? Surgery was out of the question, over 80% of back surgeries fail and cause more pain. When they fuse or put plates and screws in your spine the vertebrate (joint) above and below now have to do the work of the vertebrates that were fused or plated together.
I had both shoulders scoped, wish i would've never had that done. Not only do i know that they can heal on their own, but they are always causing me pain. We have to realize ortho's and back dr's are in the surgery business, so that's what they sell. A lot of people that are lined up for knee surgery go see a Chiropractor and get that knee set back and aligns=ed and they cancel the surgery.
What really helped me was the right chiropractor, and hanging. I believe over 90% of DC's are rack'm and crack'm chiros, that get you in and out as fast as they can and really care nothing about getting you better. Look for a "Corrective Chiropractor". I personally like those that practice the Gonstead and/or the Chiropractis BioPhysics or CBP techniques. Corrective Chiropractors will do x-rays every 3 or 6 months to check the progression. Again over 90% of DC's don't do this. I understand why DC's have a bad rap, I personally love DC's, but I do not care for the rack'm, crack'm, send them on their way ones.
I drove 4 states away to my old chiro, which hurt like heck, but so worth it. He saw (which 2 others did not) on my x-ray that there was a twist in my spine where he believed the problem was. Hew was right, I started feeling and healing faster and was in far less pain.
After that I started hanging to decompress the spine. If you can decompress and open up the spine, more blood and nutrients can get into the joint to heal and will create space in between the vertebrates.
Inversion table is good also, but I really didn't have one and since it was my low back I would go to the gym and hang and a lot of times I would have my wife hug my hips and add her weight to mine.
A lot of people say that compressed or little disk space is just signs of aging and disk degeneration. I do not agree at all with that statement.
If that was the case every disk in the whole spine would be close to the same, when that is almost never the case. Trauma/injury causes this to happen. Whether it be an accident, work etc.
Last x-rays I was told (and saw) that my low back now has the disk space of a 19 year old. However my neck (cervical) and upper back (thoracic) does not.
I have had lot of trauma to me neck (accidents and work) and upper back and now have been doing exercises for them and am looking into decompressing them as well. My low back also was getting close in disk space, mostly on the inner part. Now I have more disk space than I did before I started the hanging, have x-rays that show this. I know my neck can be corrected and healed, just need to find a good chiropractor, a devise to decompress my neck and upper back and continue with the exercises.
Our bodies are self healing, as long as it gets what it needs to heal.

Hi there. What other spinal decompression exercises did you take up? Did you change up your diet significantly? May we please see your before and after scans? I have cervical spondylosis so looking for ways to decompress spine without having to do surgery.

      @@theresapatterson879 Hi Theresa,
My neck is still a mess as well, I'm pretty sure if i saw a doctor they would label mine as cervical spondylosis as well.
However I don't believe it is from aging, mine is strictly due to trauma and career choices.
Diet always helps, certain foods help with oxygenating the blood and of course staying hydrated. At least half your body weight in water (Spring Water) each day. Liquids don't count, like juices, soda, etc. and since coffee is a diuretic and dehydrates the body, if you drink a cup, the you need to add that much more water. When I get up in the morning, before even standing up form bed I will sit and drink a full bottle of water. Before going to bed sometimes i will do this as well and oddly enough it has never made me get up to use the bathroom any more than usual.
Look up spinal decompression in your area, some chiropractors have the machines and can do it to the whole spine which obviously includes your neck.
I never did this but i need too.
What did help was using a neck hammock (Search Amazon) and chin tucks and other stretches.
Surgery is IMO the very last option, because they generally fuse the joints together, which all that does is force to top and bottom joints that are fused to also do the job of the fused ones.

Sciatica on my right side and last week re injured it and now i have a compressed nerve on my left side lower back. I'm due for steroid shots this month. First time it happened i couldn't walk for 3mos. And as i agree you do have to take care of it and xo everything my nerosurgon is telling me to do including massage therapy but i can't believe you just said dont just pray it away! It was because of prayer that i was able to walk again. yes you're supposed to do everything within our physicians and our own power but yes you should pray to. there are people who are going through a living nitemare with this. I totally understand the pain, but i also still pray for it because in doing so I know that the Lord does give me total relief from it! without prayer i wouldn't have walked again!

My Name is Amanuel. I started having problem three weeks ago with back stabbing pain. went to physic therapist, thought it was a muscle spasm. she administered massage, the pain in my tricep and lower arm persisted. week two i started experiencing numbness an pin in my left two fingers. had MR?I and x ray, images of herniation c4-c5 showed. clinical examination with neurologist and orthopaedic surgeon isolated ulnar nerve compression. but the issue of multiple compression was raised. examination ruled that the ulnar nerve is showing symptoms independent from the nerve. Nothing here is 100% for the doctors and for me. I am going to have procedure for ulnar nerve next week. I know this is not absolute but to rule out the possibility of compression coming from the nerve in the cervical area.
But I was to express my gratitude to your video clips which immensely helped me understand not only the specific problem, but the totality of understanding that was empowering for me ways very difficult to express in words only. Your clips are a window of your humanity, that is really touching.
    Thank you so much!

Hi there my friend, C4-5 would affect the first and second digit. Ulnur nerve C8 would affect the last two fingers. Which would be the fourth and fifth. More commonly I'll be C-4 C-5 what affect the C-5 nerve and dream that would affect more commonly into the shoulder blade region. I'm assuming they found a C8 nerve from an EMG. I don't like EMGs there are too many false positives present.

I was diving several years ago and hyperextended my back doing so. The pain was instant and felt like a sprain. Although my muscles seemed to heal, I have a nagging nerve pain that has not gone away over the years. I think it's a pinched nerve. I wake up each morning with pain in my lower back. At times, the pain is quite unbearable when I come out of a seated position and stand up. I need to take a moment hunched over until the pain goes away. I've seen several doctors, have had x-rays, and have tried physical therapy (although I must admit not very consistently) and acupuncture several times but nothing seems to be working. Doctors have told me I need to live with this pain. My lower back (where the pain is) has gotten very stiff and won't curve anymore into a C shape when I try to touch my toes. The last physical therapist has told me to lay on a foam roller placed under my lower back to "curve it out." I wish I could come see you for therapy as you seem to really understand the body more than any other doctor I've encountered.

I donated blood at a local drive 6 weeks ago and developed nerve pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, and aching that started in my hand and has spread into my arm and up to my shoulder. I'm scheduled to have an EMG and NCS in a few weeks but in the meantime I'm noticing worse symptoms with my most recent one my arm and hand feeling cold to touch. My primary Dr hasn't been very helpful as honestly I don't think she has ever dealt with a case such as mine. I'm doing occupational therapy. 2 days weekly and this seems to help reduce the symptoms. I don't know how it can be possible to have a pinched nerve just from donating. I know my case is very rare and unfortunate but at the same time I've learned SO much about nerves and how they work. Thanks for your video. Was helpful.

The top box's corner fell hitting the backside .of my left neck. Diagnosis we're peripheral neuropathy x4 extremeties, cervical myopathy, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, chronic headaches, syncopy, functioning blackouts. I now use a walker with a seat because I become excessively fatigued and must sit immediately. I am extremely off balance. I was also diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. I have short-term memory loss, lose track of thought mid sentence. I have been diagnosed with Renal Disease and angina, with hypertension. My thyroid has been diagnosed vas hypothyroid. Ever since January 16, 2014, I sustained a negligent injury due to store manager ignoring OSHA rules. Is there anything you can recommend to help? I was in excellent physical shape up to the point of trauma. I'm now only 59 years old, feeling anger, disparage, no sense of hope. I'm too young for my body to be traumatized in such a manner. Very good video. I understand much more about my herniated disc in my lower lumbar spine now.

Hello Doctor Mandell, Thanks for your videos. I have been doing BJJ for a while and recently earlier this month I was experiencing slight tingling in my left hand on the thumb and index and tightness of traps and neck area (only triggered from moving neck and stretching it out in certain direction or using it). This is only slight, and I continued with my training and stretching and self trigger point. I decided to do Physical Therapy last Friday and Monday and Acupuncture, manual therapy traction, warm towel around neck was used. Exercises to tuck chin down lying on my back and rolling out arm was prescribed. After Monday's Physical Therapy session and I also trained Monday, it got considerably worse. There is now pain and consistent numbness on my left thumb and enough pain while walking around that my posture is affected and I have to compensate by putting my head down slightly (can't stand up tall). Sleeping on my back / side would also cause the pain and prevent me from sleeping - the last two nights i've been sleeping straight up or get tired enough to fall asleep. I can feel my muscle tightness from my back of my neck behind my upper back down to the arm. I went to see a sports medicine doctor (I did not see one b4 seeing the PT) today and he recommended to find the root cause - so I got an xray first (MRI is 2 month wait list here in Toronto, Canada. but I plan to sign up) and will assess with him tommorrow. 1) I am resting and not doing BJJ while this is happening 2) Should I cancel the PT session for tmrw since , could it have aggravated me more? 3) I am using heat / cold which both seem to give temp comfort for very short while and advil (which seems to do not much). 4) I also tried your lying at edge of bed self traction and that was causing pain behind my neck without even pushing it, so I stopped 5) I find it very hard to make the right decisions with the variety of professionals available (chiro, physio, etc. different sports med), any other recommendations on what else to do. (or just simply time, rest, get help from 1 or more sports med and proceed with Xray, MRI to find root causes)
    Thanks in advance, Felix

Felix, hope you are doing better. I too started feeling slight numbness and made it worse stretching out my neck and arms. If anybody reads this avoid nerve flossing or anything that bends your neck left or right. Let the inflammation around your neck go down before aggressive stretches and schedule a xray mri.

Thanks Dr. Mandel! Mine decompression is on c3-c6. And I don't want to perform surgery. Surgery of the spine in Nigeria is usually 50, 50. I haven't heard of anyone who did it and got better. They end up being bed-ridden. I don't want to end up like that. Am 54 years and am already suffering so much pains from my cervical neuropathy. Sometimes I will feel completely fine and the next moment the pains will be so excruciating. My left side from my head to my feet especially the neck and shoulder area

I have sciatica. i suffered a massive flare up on monday. its now Saturday morning. and each day it was pretty excruciating pain . friday night i slept flat on my stomach and was able to fall asleep most of the night almost pain free . But i have to ask you doctor last Saturday i had to ejaculate as i had too much build up and i think thats what caused my flare up . now im a 37yold male its been hard to keep all that stored up energy down there. but im finding that each time i have ejaculated my flare ups are worse the next few days after. could there be a problem with me ? maybe a tumor or prostate problem?

how is it now bro? I was 180 lbs and strong as an ox at 38, I was jogging and hit a rabbit hole and that was it, I broke my ankle! from that 2 weeks after I just kept feeling pain up and down in my entire leg thought it was from my ankle, I found out I fucked up my lower back in the fall, not a dime for doctor or chiropractor, And to much pain to rub one out and that sex with my girlfriend became bad for me lol!, But I had no choice to wake up and go to work, and man the pain I went through for next 2 years was insane! I am now 41 and 95% naturally healed

8 weeks ago my wife neck started hurting. 3 weeks after the pain started, 2 or 3 chiropractor appts later she developed severe tinnitus and still had neck pain. She’s seen multiple doctors and done scans. She’s now started decompression at a clinic because the scans show deterioration in some disks. It’s been 2 weeks of treatment and her tinnitus has improved slightly for periods of time but still at a level 5 most the time and peaking at an 8 here and there. My question is, you think this may be nerve related? Any suggestions? I love my wife and want her to get her life back, she’s struggling and I’ll do anything to help her

Dr. Mandell, what type of physician would one need to go to evaluate and diagnose a pinched nerve. I'm pretty sure I have this issue, but don't want to waste time going to my general practitioner if I don't need to. Thanks in advance.

I think I pinched a nerve in my left shoulder or trap. I had severe pain in my neck, shoulder, left elbow, and whole left arm that happened suddenly while I was trying to stretch out a stiff neck. It made my whole left arm feel like pins and needles and hurt BAD. Now it is 6 months later and some strength has come back and most of the numbness is gone. But I have pretty bad muscle atrophy in my tricep and pec. And my pointer finger still has the pins and needles numb feeling. I used to bench 225, now I can't do 135... I couldn't do a push up for the first two months, now I can do about 20. Which is great improvement, but still weak. Just wondering if you have any ideas and if there is any hope. I don't have insurance otherwise I would have seen a doctor a long time ago... Thank you

Probably a disc involvement because of the the weakness. Consider MRI and/or over the door traction
