Yeah, mixed feelings. I thought it was just ok, good concept with a hit and miss execution. Definitely not the worst though. Just hate that it did the same thing as Ahsoka, where it felt like a lot of setup with not enough payoff. Same frustration with Marvel. Not everything has to be Empire Strikes Back...

We have never really seen the Jedi as respected by their community. They’ve always been hunted or fools. It is a mistake to not take this opportunity to reinforce this is the era they were in their prime.

I'm not sure when the Jedi became Vulcans or where that perception came from but I don't think they are trying to remove all emotion but just trying not to give in to the darker side emotions and letting them dominate their destiny. As far as this episode goes easily the best in the series. No I didn't like the series overall but it definitely had it's moments. Agreed the fights were excellent especially in this ep. I'm still down on the writing and editing. It just didn't feel cohesive and fluid to me. Janky is the best description I've heard. I thought the writing was predictable but that is okay if it's done well. I think the show did a poor job of explaining some of the lesser known lore. I'm not hung up on changing some of the lore because again if done well I'm here for it. I'm just more disappointed at the overall quality.
I am fairly indifferent about a second season. I think Disney is targeting a different demographic and I am not that. That's okay because most things should change. All I ask is that they do it with some better quality. I do have two things I absolutely feel strongly about.
First if the implication is that Yoda is somehow evil and part of a cover up then I'm done with anything associated with this series. Some things are sacred dammit.
Second what the *!? #(#-$ was the tracker doing sabotaging the ship?
Most everything else I can live with if it's done well.

I'm glad I'm not alone in being confused about what Bazil was up to here lol
Also I feel you. Like I said, I don't really think anyone here is evil. I definitely don't think Vernestra is so I can't imagine Yoda is going to get involved in anything downright evil. I don't even think Sol was evil. He was just doing his best to be a good Jedi. He acted a little too quickly but he was acting in the belief that he was protecting the innocent from someone who would cause them harm. I think... wherever we go next, it's not going to be a straight up cover up. I am a little disappointed though that they felt the need to pull in Yoda. It could have been anyone else in the lore. I'm sure they are other cool folks from the High Republic or we could have made a new character. I just want to make sure that whatever revelations come about it still works with the established canon. And yes, ideally let's not corrupt Yoda. Yoda wasn't perfect admittedly but overall he is a great Jedi Master. One of the best!
I feel your points though. It was a bit of a mixed bag for me overall but I think I admire what it's trying to do and I think there are some elements of this show that are so well done. Though others could definitely use a bit more work.

I thought the stories overall between the Jedi, the coven conspiracy, and Qimir were interesting. Like you, I wasn't that invested in the Mae/Osha story until that last episode. The fights were top tier. The writing and dialogue were hit and miss, but that's been a staple of Star Wars since 1977. I do hope there is a season 2 if only to see how Plagueis deals with Qimir and Osha.

I liked everyone really. Very fun. When you go into each episode and your already having fun you know its good. By far the Light Saber battles were the highlight. Ohh man awesome. And I love a good bad guy and he was fantastic. I loved the twin switching sides. I really enjoyed it. Agree on yoda....yaaaayyy its yoda...you didn't need it though. Overall I had a blast and hope it's back. Cannot wait to binge it all again this weekend.

Love the bride of Dracula look lol , a very intelligent review.
Ok the serious question is acolyte any good; yes I'd recommend anyone to give it a chance. It's not perfect, I do think it would have been better if the storytelling was linear from the beginning to present events. The other thing I didn't like was signposting where they are, surly could have been done much better if included into the dialogue.
But I'm just nitpicking though I think.
The positives definitely outweigh any negatives.
I do believe although this show demonstrates wrinkles within the Jedi order and blurs the difference between light and dark sides of the force . This isn't about the Jedi but the Sith and better than ever shows how the apprentice chooses the dark side and becomes Sith. It also demonstrates that the Sith are about emotions and not shielding yourself from them. They channel the force through emotions for their abilities.
    A great beginning let's have season 2 ..

Yeah, I`m up for a Season 2 just based on curiosity about Vanestra, Qimir, Mae & Osha. The Acolyte(barely) won me over in the end - and I`m glad it did.

Why was Smilo Ren trying to use his lightsaber to pull Sol's lightsaber onto his helmet?
If he was pulling, it meant that his blade was on the opposite side to Sol's, which means there was nothing between his blade and Sol's head.
A flick of his wrist, and Sol would have died instantly.

    • @VampX13
      @VampX13  3 місяці тому +4

I think you're missing an important detail in that fight beat. Sol's hand was on Qimir's / The Stranger's lightsaber arm, specifically his wrist.
You can see them begin to get into that position at time code 22:41 but it happens really fast and they are locked in by 22:43 in terms of time codes in the episode.
Qimir takes a swing at Sol who dodges and leans out of the way, pushing Qimir's lightsaber back away from him by grabbing Qimir's lightsaber arm. This causes Qimir's lightsaber to hit come into contact with Sol's own.
With Sol already pushing Qimir's lightsaber arm back, Qimir decides to use this resistance to his advantage, knowing that pushing back against Sol will not be as effective, since Sol is already creating resistance in his lightsaber arm. Using the resistance directly, Qimir sees an opportunity to create a win-win for himself out of their lock up. If Qimir can use the leverage to pull Sol's lightsaber into his own helmet then Sol's lightsaber will be deactivated. Alternatively if Sol pulls back too much here to resist that, then Qimir could switch tactics and aim for Sol's head instead (as you suggested). I assume though, Sol hadn't made enough of a switch yet in the direction of what he was resisting for Qimir to try to the other tactic.
This moment is broken up a quick moment later by Sol trying to throw Qimir off as a result of seeing his tactic and adjusting, with Sol instead choosing to simply turn off his own lightsaber, giving Sol enough of of an element of surprise to throw Qimir off. Qimir was so focused on being the one to turn off Sol's lightsaber with his helmet that Sol's change in tactic catches him unaware. While this feels slow due to it literally being slowed down so we can catch Sol's expression and emphasize the tension of the moment (takes about 10 seconds from when they are locked in to Sol breaking away), in real time I imagine this move would be faster maybe taking half the time. Hence the use of slow-mo might make this moment more confusing for some as it changes up the pacing and make it feel like there are windows there that don't really exist because the choreo is so fluid.
So I can see why it might feel weird based on how this is cut. But I don't think the choreo is the issue there. Anyways, thanks for coming to my weird fight choreo Ted Talk lol

For me the finale was a disappointment. To many why did that happen? Why did the tracker disable sol's ship? We still did not get any clue as to how Mae left Braendoc originally? If Q picked her up, how did he know how to go there? No explanation as to what happened to their other mother (my theory is thet she really is Q).
They should hsve used Yeadle instead of Yoda. This way Yoda does not habe to lie when he says the Sith was supposed to have died out.

Interesting talking points in your video... George Lucas has already presented the Jedi as not being infallible in the Prequel Series... So, that notion was already shone prior to Disney coming along... But the first 6 movies still showed that, even though they are not perfect and some are flawed, they still strive for the ideal of being a force for good in the universe... Unlike the presentation in the Acolyte, where they are continuously presented, especially in this last episode, as being a corrupt and evil super power being only interested in its own selfish needs and power... They are presented as the villains of the show, even though Osha, Mae, and Qimir are obviously killers... Instead, they are striving to present those three as being the heroes fighting against the corrupt and evil organization of the Jedi Order... You can tell the writers want us to care more about those 3 characters and sympathize with their goals and desires...
But this is not an Anti-Hero story, or a redemption story... Plus the writers have failed in their goal, because all they really proved was that the victims of these three were only doing what they thought was right, and the death of the mother was just Sol trying to save Mae from what he perceived as an attack by her mother... You could see little Mae's face full of fear as she began to appear as though she was disintegrating, while the mother looked like a smoke monster... Any decent person would have thought something bad was happening to the kid by the mother... So the attack by Sol was justifiable, even though he then learns the truth after it was too late... The whole thing was a tragedy of circumstances, that was intended to get a different message across then what ended up coming across... In the end Osha, Mae, and Qimir are proven to be the villains, regardless how hard the writers tried to portray them in a different light... That is again all part of the writers failure throughout the whole series...
They wanted us to look upon the three villains as the heroes of the story, and look upon the Jedi as the true villains... But due to sloppy storytelling, most folks are just left confused, angry, lost, and feeling empty by this series... You can see the writers telegraphing their story points a majority of the time, but the execution tends to be clunky and boring... The action sequences gave some folks a sense of hope, but even then, they fell into modern tropes, and felt artificial in their execution half the time... Some scenes throughout the entire series were boring, and could have been deleted without really effecting much... Many questions were raised that never received any resolutions, or the resolutions felt flat and uninspiring... For as many tiny moments the series seemed to maybe be redeeming, just ended up being abandoned or followed up with more issues...
I know I'm sounding all doom and gloom... I will admit the show had a few moments now and then that were alright, but in the long run I don't feel the show was as good as it could have been... If only the writing of the dialogue and storytelling wasn't so poorly made, and sometimes poorly executed... Initially I thought Sol was the main character, mostly because the actor did such a bang up job with what he was given... For me Mae and Osha felt empty and/or schizo, throughout most of the episodes until the end... We were never given enough time and character development with most of the characters beyond Sol, to care about them enough... So, their deaths felt empty, as we didn't have enough time to care about them all that much... Sol was the only character we probably felt for, even as flawed as he was, because of how well the actor performed most of the time... The first half of the series the actor did really well given how bad the script was, but he did begin to faulter as time went on... You could hear it in his voice, that he began to struggle with his lines after the halfway point of the season, being that he didn't speak English...
All in all, I cannot fault you or others for liking some of the stuff that you liked in the series... Even as flawed as it was, it did tell a story... I just think it was doomed from the start, even before it was released, due to the messaging and bad marketing... Add to that, the show runner and her writing crew just didn't have the experience and knowledge to make a big budget series in a way that would appeal to masses... Some folks will be happy with whatever they get, and/or can look past all the flaws and lore breaking... And I'm super happy that they can enjoy this hot mess that is The Acolyte... Sorry for ranting... I still love your videos and takes on all these things... Keep up the good work...

I generally disagree with your assessment that this show is trying to treat the 3 that you mentioned as the heroes (at least, I believe that's your assessment); and that this isn't some "Anti-hero" show. Awhile back it was explained by the show runner that they wanted to explore the perspective of the Sith as like one of their main things (An Acolyte being a deep lore term essentially meaning a Sith that can go outside the rule of two, as like an exception).
The show tries to explore this perspective by first trying to make it understandable how you'd get there in the first place, and it wants us to consider the notion that not everyone is so different, that's why it starts us off at what can be considered the light side - through a former padawan
I won't get into 'cause it could get long, but I think some of the shows themes are: duality or balance (Yin-Yang), perspective, fallibility, and Control/Power
And I think the fact that you can gleam that the Jedi were just trying to do what they thought was right says enough ( - I think that's an intention of the show)
I think Sol's performance gets better in the second half of the series, maybe not in his pronunciation like you imply (-wasn't really paying attention), but through his facial expressions and diction (just an opinion tho). [some of these scenes may not have even been filmed in chronological order either]
I agree I think overall that the execution of the show could've been better, especially in the dialogue

    • @ArcaneZippity
      @ArcaneZippity 3 місяці тому +1

@@IdenNonya I get what you're saying... It's probably a matter of perspective, or perhaps I just didn't explain my position as well as I could have... It's the greatest downside of typing a conversation vs actually talking with someone... :(
As to the hero perspective... Star Wars has traditionally been a hero's journey type of story... Obviously since this is a story about a Sith Acolyte, we're going to get a different perspective using the Sith (which represents evil in the Star Wars Universe) rather than your typical Jedi (which represents good and/or light in the Star Wars Univers) story... Being what the story is, and based on interviews with Leslye and other cast members over the duration of its creation, and time on Disney+, the Heroes of the story are supposed to be the Sith and/or the Acolyte herself...
When I mentioned the types of ways writers of fantasy/sci-fi typically write Villian focused stories... Most people tend to like a Villain Redemption story, or a story where the Villain gets his/hers comeuppance in the end... If it were a Villain story where evil triumphs in the end, you usually see those in either Tragedies, such as you might see in Traditional Japanese stories/folklore, or the end of a Horror Film which is befitting of that style, and typically leads into sequels... Anti-Heroes are usually someone who has good and/or hero like intensions, even though they are flawed and/or have questionable morales and methods...
Being a Star Wars show, if it is sticking with what makes Star Wars true to itself, then we have to ask ourselves who are the heroes and who are the villains? Clearly Leslye, based on the show and things she has said, is trying to portrait the Jedi as flawed, in the wrong, and almost villainous in their practices and intentions... Even if the show doesn't always do that good of a job at that portrayal... For me, even if he was flawed, I considered Sol the initial hero, but he is dead and is now being portrayed by the Jedi as the villain... So, who are we left with? The evil Sith Osha and Qimir, who are the Sith couple falling for one another, based on Leslye's interviews and all the hand touching... Clearly the show runner intends for the Heroes of this story to be those two characters, if not purely Osha... As they are not Anti-Heroes and the Jedi are the Villains... Sorry if that all sounds confusing...
I apologize if what I said before makes it sound like I'm trying to argue against people liking any parts of the show... If people like/love it in part or in hole, I am very happy for those people... These were just my opinions and take aways after watching it, along with paying attention to all the various interviews of the cast and creators... There are obvious intended messages Leslye thinks were very clear in this show, that I'm not 100% on board with, or agree to after actually watching the show.
I wasn't trying to counter any of the stuff mentioned in the video, but was just giving my current take on the show itself... I apologize if there was, or still is, confusion concerning how I explained my opinion/s and conclusions...

I liked a lot this series and the ending was just the cherry over the cake, i appreciated that they tried to do something different and also coherent, not doing stupid things so the storyline can go on (ex Sabine and Ezra in Ashoka or Grogu coming back for the summer weekend with Luke in Bobba), of course they didn't do it the best possible way, the mystery format and the length of episodes is something that can be better (disney should make series with episodes of 50-60 minutes so they don't seem like there are missing things)m but the acting was good, fights even better, and the 2 cameos it had at the end, i'd say they were not necessary but open some chances for future, i don't expect to have it another season if disney thinks about money, this series had full hate not even started and numbers are not high enough to le them go on with it, but if they decide to do it, people who watched and liked it would appreciate to have it again.... keep rocking and satay safe!!!!

All Vernestra says to Yoda is “Sorry to disturb you master. We need to talk”. How does this imply he’s aware of any of the corruption currently going on or the resurgence of the Sith?

I understand your point on Yoda being able to sense things through the force at great distances but it isn’t an exact science. I’m sure he might have been able to sense something but I doubt force sense is precise. If it were, Yoda or any of the other Jedi Masters would have been able to out Palpatine as a Sith Lord at any point before the events of the Clone Wars or Order 66. In regards to judging Sol’s character, I wouldn’t say that’s Yoda’s best trait either. Dooku was Yoda’s padawan and Yoda thought he was pretty great until he was turned.

I definitely think there is room for improvement but overall I liked how different this was, yet still felt like it honored the Star Wars universe and paid homage to other projects that had come before. It was a really neat show in terms of what it seemingly set out to do and I'm glad I watched it.

Because I wasn't sure if this was going to be a final ending or not. And that is what I'm discussing in this video. Is this the end of the show or will we see a season 2 and continuation based on the questions we have unanswered and what they built in this finale.

    • @VampX13
      @VampX13  3 місяці тому +1

The title was in reference to the fact that I wasn't sure if we were getting a season two or not. As in is the show finally over or will it continue? The whole point of a title and thumbnail is to make you click and encourage you to watch and engage with the video. Which this at least seems to have done to a certain degree.
To clarify, in my review I talk about how this series in general was mixed for me but I overall enjoyed it and am wondering if they will continue the show based on what they built throughout, but especially in the final episode. If you watch the review - or any of my other reviews - the fact that I enjoyed the show in general rings pretty clear I think. I never said I hated the show in the title.
Also why would someone hating this show mean they know nothing about Star Wars? Just because someone doesn't enjoy the show, doesn't mean we need to gatekeep them necessarily. We can all be fans and love something and also disagree on likes and dislikes. Some viewpoints on The Acolyte are pretty wild I'll grant you, but just disliking this show doesn't automatically mean you know nothing about Star Wars. That feels like a bold claim to me. 🤔
Regardless thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, even if you didn't seem to like my video or possibly did not watch it. ☺️ If my content isn't it, I sincerely hope you find the content you love and are looking for in regards to this show. I definitely hope it gets a season 2. I'm curious to see where it goes next. Hope you have a great day! ☀️
