I feel so bad for Lee Jung Jae, he was a true Star Wars fan who took the time to watch previous movies, base his character off Qui Gon Jinn, and learn English specifically for this role. He was the only consistently great actor across the entire series, and he was mudered by an entitled little brat telling him to stop talking with an actress who was so bad at her roles that she never should have been cast in a production in the first place

Star Wars hating has been going on since 1977. Look at all the bad reviews for the first movie. Some reviewers thought it was stupid and made for kids. The first 6 Star Wars has tons and tons of plot holes because George was adding stuff along the way for the Prequels which were then never mentioned in the Originals which happens years later like Qui-Gon Jinn and midi-chlorians which Obi-Wan and Yoda never speak about in the OGs.
You would think Obi-Wan would mention his former master at least once in the OGs but he’s never mentioned. Not even in private with Yoda. And if you want to go even further, where the hell is Ahsoka in all of this? Never mentioned at all in any of the 9 movies. Filoni makes it seem she’s so significant. R2-D2 did more for the rebellion than Ahsoka did. Star Wars has tons of continuity issues. In 3 of the 9 films, they used the same planet killer Death Star plot. Two of those from the OGs.
You should check The Acolyte subreddit with people liking the show. One person said it’s at least taking risks and killing off most of the main characters or at least the so-called good guys. But there’s an interesting discussion if Sol deserved to get killed or not? Was he more bad than how many of us perceive him? Bad as in doing bad things. Not necessarily evil.
      *Thank* *you,* *The* *Acolyte*
      www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/s/kb7vWMWtxF
You might have a different opinion on it when reading some of the more positive comments for it. Could The Acolyte be misunderstood? Or could it be so hated now but be appreciated years later like what the Prequels became? I’ve seen positive comments for The Acolyte coming from Star Wars fans of at least 30-40 years. And thirsty females / shippers like this Oshamir stuff as their dark side Reylo.
I still think The Acolyte sucks and is the worst thing that ever came out of Star Wars. But, I might compare it to when I owned an Atari Jaguar. I thought it was the worst video game console I ever had but I still have a soft spot for it. Sometimes being so bad can be looked upon as a cult classic years later. There are tons of people who love Godzilla movies and get a joy watching cheesy, campy fights with guys in rubber suits. Everybody processes information and media content differently.
The few positive aspects that The Acolyte did give us are…
      - Qimir / The Stranger
      - Best lightsaber fights since the Prequels
      - Darth Plagueis
Plagueis could lead us to a young Palpatine series someday. What Star Wars Meg needs to talk about next is Darth Plagueis possibly being in a Season 2 of The Acolyte if we do get one. It’s the big WTF/OMG moment from Ep. 8. Yoda is my second favorite SW character ever but I didn’t care about his appearance. And more Abeloth talk in Season 2 of Ahsoka.
Star Wars Meg and Allen Xie of Generation Tech are at best when talking about Legends and stuff deeper into the lore. Shows like Ahsoka and The Acolyte are more like this providing more of the mystique of Star Wars than say Andor.
Have the haters watched any actual SW shows?
      www.reddit.com/r/TheAcolyte/s/WIcQ64oXT2
I will admit The Acolyte did have superior fight choreography than Ahsoka. Not saying it was better than Ahsoka as an actual series, but it had far better fights.
Does anybody remember when Maul kicks Obi-Wan to a lower floor? You can see zero contact.

I believe "The Acolyte" is an allegory through May and Osha's journey that parallels Leslye Headland's own experiences with Harvey Weinstein. The characters' choices suggest psychopathic tendencies such as manipulativeness, lack of empathy, cognitive dissonance, and moral detachment. Whether intentional or not, the series offers insight into the mind of a psychopath, raising questions about the nature of ambition and ethical compromise in the pursuit of success.

I'm glad that you're pointing out one of the largest logical flaws of this whole series and that's that every issue would have easily been overcome with simple communication. Instead of just coming out and talking to each other like normal people would, every single damn character hems and haws (or plot contrivances conveniently happen), or just straight up forgets or pivots, instead of having a simple conversation. It makes no sense.

    • @Mgauge
      @Mgauge 6 місяців тому +5

It stinks of a writer who has a destination in mind without considering how their characters could get there organically. Rather than change the setting or the end point, they just have the characters do whatever is necessary at that moment regardless of if it makes any sense.

    • @alannothnagle
      @alannothnagle 6 місяців тому +5

The communication problem you mention is what writing coaches call the „idiot plot,“ where an entire story hinges solely on some sort of idiotic behavior or silly misunderstanding. Any drama that could have been avoided through a quick WhatsApp message isn‘t worth engaging with.

@@ashleybanks-wm4cg Nothing in my post implies that what the Jedi did to cover up the incident on Brendock was "okay". In fact, my post goes to the point that if the Jedi and witches had talked to each other more effectively or even at all in some instances. The incident on Brendock likely wouldn't have happened. If it did still happen for whatever reason, if the Jedi had just told the council what really happened, none of the events that followed 16 years later would have unfolded. Almost everyone that was there shares some responsibility for what happened and the main reason that events unfolded the way they did that night is because no one simply talked to each.

    • @thewatkinsdeadandbreakfast
      @thewatkinsdeadandbreakfast 6 місяців тому +5

@@alannothnagle I was going go mention this in my other response but I didn't want to write a book lol. You're right though and this plot contrivance has become such a trope that it's immediately recognizable as soon as it happens. The most common I can think of off hand is the guy getting caught in a seemingly compromising position by his love interest that has a perfectly innocent explanation, but either he doesn't bother trying to explain, or she runs off before he can, creating artificial conflict where there doesn't need to be one, usually in the 2nd or 3rd act of the show or movie. It's just lazy script writing.

What gets me about that Senator's speech is that the thing about the Jedi he found most unbelievable was that they try to control their emotions. Really? The psychic powers and fighting off armies with glowing swords are fine, but being able to keep your cool under pressure is what strains belief?
Also, he knows, for a fact, that Force users have real power. They exist with or without the Jedi. So why is he so terrified of a potential Jedi snapping when any random jerk out there with psychic powers and no restraint could become a massive threat?
This is the sort of thing you get when an author thinks they're being smart and linking things to real world issues without taking a second to really consider the implications of the setting they're dealing with or if their criticism is truly applicable.

In general yes, the reason why I dislike all the crap about "Jedi are useless" pushed first in The Last Jedi is that even without the Jedi, there would still be countless Force users all around doing what they want and with a high risk of falling to the Dark Side and being a pain in the ass to everyone. So, yes, I'd pick the dogmatic but overall benevolent and controlled Jedi over a mass of uncontrolled Force users, scattared ans each with its own agenda and ideas

Acolyte's writing resembles the fumbling of an amateur who knows what they wants to achieve but does not think about how it fits into worldbuilding or if it fits at all. They do not understand how things must be handled to reach the desired goal. They never read any sci-fi books and haven't seen many movies/shows. They do not understand the conventions of the genre and have never experienced good and bad examples. It is a total mess.
And I am tired of people trying to find something good in it, mostly noticing only gimmicks and, at best, the cherries on the top. But the cherry on the top of a pile of shit doesn't change anything.

      b. He needed to keep an eye-line on her due to the rocks possibly becoming more dense or a potentially thick dust cloud could obscure her ship if she darted in another direction.
      - The counter to the apologetic that he knew she was headed for the planet anyway is that after she lost line of sight, she could just hide behind a large rock or dust cloud to wait him out (and he couldn't wait as the Jedi team was coming after him)
      c. If she decided to dip down out of the middle into the lower empty layer, that would further obscure his vision and mean he would need to go through 2 layers should he need to pursue her if she kept heading straight down
      d. His larger craft (mothership to the escape/fighter pod) has much more shields, power and hull durability than her small ship, so he could handle the hits until he disabled her ship.
Trust me, there are far worse points to binge on to show the show is bad (just like people keep banging on Noah's Ark or the 6-day creation of the Earth in the Bible, when there are far easier ways to disprove God's existence). We're thinking way too much on the show than the scriptwriters ever did.

Anyone can kill a bunch of Jedi with a saber-proof armor, it takes a master (or an utter madman, admittedly) to accomplish this feat with skills alone. A villain can have pride too.

heartbreaking is a good way to describe how this show made me feel as well. i'm 25 and Star Wars has been with me for as long as i can remember. my mother showed my the original trilogy when i was too young to even speak and i would re-watch those three movies constantly. And then i found out about the prequel trilogy and my grandma bought me those three on dvd. i have such fond memories of those silly prequel trilogy menu screens. one of my only memories of my father is him bringing me his old collection of Star Wars action figures when i was around 10 years old. i didn't have any lightsaber toys until i was already an adult and bought my own but back then all i needed was a straight stick or an old broom handle and in my mind i could be just like Luke or Obi Wan, or Mace Windu (one of my fav characters). those movies and eventually the clone wars series means so much to me. meditating on my problems and being mindful like a Jedi got me through a lot of tough times.
all this to say, kids these days are growing up in a world where Star Wars means nothing and Disney is telling us that all your heroes are actually worthless and they will only let you down. i legitimately cant get my 16 year old brother or my 13 year old sister to watch ANYTHING Star Wars with me because they simply dont care anymore.
a series like this comes out and just does even further damage and makes the new generation care less and less.
ALL of this to say. i am heartbroken that this has happened and i really dont know is Star Wars can ever come back from this....

There's plenty of stuff in this show that doesn't make sense but the one lynchpin to the entire story that makes no sense:
Why does Sol have some kind of force bond with Osha when he meets her for the first time and exclaims he feels she is meant to be his padawan if A:
She doesn't complete her Jedi training and leaves the order to become a mechanic. And B:
Ends up murdering Sol. So what was the force connection he felt? Obviously the force created that connection but to what end? To kill Sol? Why was he so compelled when she doesn't even end up becoming his padawan and kills him?
Like the clear distinction that Headland has no fucking clue what she's doing. She's been seen saying her first film she had no idea what whe was doing. I can confidently say she still has no fucking clue what she's doing.
She's clearly been influenced by KOTOR so the way the sisters end up actually kind of mirrors Revan and Malek but all that means is she doesn't even have an original thought or is in any way creative if she's just trying to copy/paste more competent stories. 🤷

So little care when into most parts of this show and then they over focused on other things that are dumb. She's out there working over time explaining her show on Mary Sue on YT and other interviews and it's like... if you have to explain SO much, it wasn't easy to understand and makes you wonder if this was the first effing draft and she ran with it. She straight up said she didn't have backup options for her actors as far as, if someone couldn't play the role she hadn't thought of another actor as a choice. And Amandla said that they'd had her in mind and it was all written for her before she even auditioned (which she would've gotten hired anyways so it's not really an audition) I wonder wtf made Leslye want Amandla in her lead role because she's as wooden in her acting a cardboard cut out. I love how the sisters kept the exact same hairstyle since they were 8 years old clearly because Headland needed them to reasonably switch places and have no one notice. It's pretty clear how this story was structured that Leslye had an idea she liked and just wouldn't let it go no matter if it made sense to the story.

I haven‘t watched the series, but I‘ve watched lots of reviews and I have yet to identify any actual story here. It just seems to be random characters moving around and getting into trouble, all the while „representing“ their respective „identities.“ It isn‘t just that there‘s no moral to the story, there isn‘t even a premise or common thread. I guess the overall message is „Sith happens.“ At least, that‘s all I ever got out of it. 😮

btw - Basel is actually Plaugeus's master, Tenebrous. In season two he's killed by Yoda after a 20 minute fight scene.

You know I predicted after episode 6 that Smilo Ren was a young Palpatine… now I am scared I was correct.

Palpatine is a redhead and the child of some high ranking politician from naboo.
If they claim smilo is Palpatine they completely break canon. Especially since he shouldn't even be born for another 40 years or something, not even the Disney knights should be able to defend such a decision.

All of that information, except for the Naboo part, is from the EU if I’m not mistaken. Disney threw that out a long time ago.

The way this show treats the lore, it would not surprise me. Palpatine was 50 to 60 during The Phantom Menace according to EU so he shouldn't have been born yet. With a few clicks on a keyboard, they can make him 150 easy as pie. Sadly I haven't cared about Star Wars for years, as far as I'm concerned the series ended on episode 6 with the occasional surprises like Rogue One and Andor.

It truly is mind-boggling. How can you make something that bad? With millions at your disposal, how does this make sense from a money-making perspective? They absolutely know how to make the money, they know where the money is at...(the 75 male audience), and their idea is to look to the 25% for the money? This isn't sexist. It's just facts. Boys like space ships, swords, and action just more overall. Why not make women awesome in stories that don't make it so obvious how much they hate men?? It's mind-boggling. Makes no sense what Kathleen Kennedy is doing. She could be a hero, but she chooses to be something else completely.

If someone asked me to describe this series in one word it would be CONFUSED!!! I don't understand why away things, why they do the things they do, and what their motivation is.... Everything changes on a dime... Its uncanny!! Why is Star Wars doing this " fill in the time line thing???!! Why don't they just do one overall storyline where every film connects to the next one??

Would be cool if plageius created them by murdering someone like Voldemort did with horcruxes. If he murdered a Jedi who was in balance light and dark that would be cool and the witches helped him do it. If he murders Jedi to make palpatine and Vader that would be an interesting twist and especially if he murders the green woman who it actually turns out is a Sith which explains why she lies all the time and why yoda can’t sense that the Sith have returned

I believe most people are missing the point there’s only 2 things that can be done either a reboot the whole thing or just continue the story with Rey.
