That Walnut sure did you give you a run for your money, Kimsey! Man, lots of work! But, holy cow, is it pretty! I'm looking forward to seeing it and it's little brother with some finish on them. Glad you are feeling better. That is scary stuff! Take care, my friend! 😊 Phil
Beautiful grain Kimsey. Those are going to be beautiful bowls. If I got a piece that big and beautiful I would have to get myself a coring system for sure. Great job buddy! Gary
Thanks Gary!😎 The coring is definitely worth it when the grain is nice, I don’t mind making shavings though, they are great for getting the heater going and getting a good campfire going.
You sure had your hands full working on this one. I am really glad I have the oneway coring system. Yours scared the hell out of me. You did a great job with it.
Thanks 😎 Lol it is a little scary at first but the way it’s designed it can’t pull the chisel out of your hand, I think i would rather have the one way core system because I have such a hard time with this thing.
Good afternoon, Kimsey. I did enjoy your video. This walnut has to be the most beautiful piece of wood I have seen. Enjoyed watching it being turned. You also have the cored bowl as a beautiful bonus. Excellent. Ray
Howdy Ray! Glad you enjoyed the video 😎 Yep that grain I don’t know that I’ve ever had a chunk of walnut like this one, there were multiple tree limbs that could be seen that had been cut off of the tree, and the log had been laying on the ground for a long while and the white sap wood was all pretty much rotten, I’ve turned the smaller one and so far they are drying good, Have a good one 🤝
Thanks I appreciate it! 😎 Yep that grain is something else, I don’t think I ever got my hands on a piece like that before of walnut, and I actually have the other half of that piece, it’s shaped kinda funky though, I’ve been contemplating on what to make out of it 🤔
Kimsey, the texturing tool doesn’t work so well if the wood density on one side is different to the other. That’s why you had problems. Lovely piece of wood that put up a decent fight.😊
Now then Kimsey, that's got some right good looking grain inside and outside, look forward to see it finished , love the clouds at the end, how's your veg plot coming on this summer you getting some good crops. keep well, All the best from Lincolnshire UK
@@kimseyjustkimsey5256 wet cold spring held up the start of growth, but we've made up with some beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots, Cauliflowers, now waiting for the brussels to bulk up. Not self sufficient but it's nice to walk out back door and get a bit of fresh veg straight from the soil. You take care til next video. All the best.👍👍
Sounds like some good stuff! 👍 Yep it sure is nice to have some home grown veggies, we have a apple tree with quite a bit of apples this year and something managed to get them before they ripened, either a bear or deer or raccoon, I never saw them do it but in the past I have saw the deer and bear helping there self to em 😔 Have a good one buddy 🤝
I always LOVE black walnut...and this is AMAZING! What a great bowl...such beautiful grain/markings 😁💙
I got one more piece of that stuff but it’s an odd shape maybe I’ll turn it before to long! 😎
Stupendous grain and figure! WOWZERS! 🤯 Nicely turned, for sure!
Thanks Dave!😎

Wow! Just Wow! That is a fantastic piece of Black Walnut. Great grain, color, chatoyance and feathering. Amazing bowl. That's a real winner there.

Nice one kimsey..get yourself some good scrapers. They will help you to remove the torn grain and gouge marks..
Thanks and Thanks for the advice on the scraper’s!😎
Jim Sprague got some cutters from Hunter Tools for his coring system.
Beautiful wood in that bowl!!
Thanks and thanks for the info on the other coring tools!😎🤝
