That looks so beautiful. I love watching you turn. I really appreciate how you explain what happened and why it happened. And then to see what you do instead to come up with a solution. I apply so much of what I learn from watching your projects. Thank you for taking the time to make all these videos.

    Good evening, Kimsey.
Your wood looks great. I too wish the bark would have stayed on. In the end, a beautiful bowl. Nice save.

Very nice turning, my friend! When I send ya another piece (and I will!), let the spongy cambium layer dry before turning and the bark stays on nice and tight.

Thanks Dave I appreciate it! 😊 and I will put a box fan to put some air flow on it to I don’t know what i was thinking it also developed some kind of stink I guess it was trying to rot is why it got sticky, looking forward to trying another one it was some nice turning wood 😎🤝

Well, it sure did finish up nice, Kimsey! It's a shame to lose that bark but I could see it was a pain trying to keep it on. But, you know what? It still is a beautiful piece! Nice natural edge, great design and finish! Nothing wrong with this one, good job, buddy! 😀

Great to see you Kimsey, hope you're all doing well over there! It was a pleasure to watch you working this lovely piece of wood - I felt your pain when the bark came off but you still made a great job of it - pleasure to watch as always 👍👍👌

That came out really nice, Kimsey. The grey is a result of spalting.

Looks great Kimsey. Glad you showed it with the finish on. Cool natural edge
The bark on our Siberian Elm is very thick and hard to keep on .
    Take care Gary

It will stay on if the spongy, thick cambium is allowed to dry before turning. I have a couple dozen swoop bowls roughed and seasoning in front of a fan, all bark on tight.

Howdy Gary! I do love turning wet wood, once I get my mind on a piece I’ve not got patience to let it dry I’m turning it wet or dry, hoping for the best if it’s wet keeping dem fingers crossed 🤞 that it don’t crack as it dries out 😄
We’ve started a few veggies and then they didn’t make it and now we gotta start some more, yep spring is in the air hopefully no more frosty mornings, Hope ya have a good weekend buddy 🤝

Did you do any research on that particular type tree? Could be just the makeup of that type tree bark. Beautiful wood and shape. You’ll have a winner once finished.

Hello would it have helped you out to put recess in the bottom of the bowl cup so you could chuck it up and get it turned round to work on the outsid and bottom.

I don’t know but thanks for your thoughts on it, that’s the only thing I could come up with at the time, I’ll keep that in mind if I run into that problem again 🤝
