One of my favorite woods also. Just make sure to wear some sort of breathing protection. I love the smell also. Another of my favorite smells in woodturning is to be lucky enough to have some Dogwood trees that have been dead for years. It's like a perfume of some kind! Been around it for years and would burn it for fire pits and such but it doesn't put out an odor from chain saw cut like it does from shaving it with skew.
It’s beautiful. Well done. Fyi. I have found that when using pot holders to cushion/ hold my bowls to remove the tenons , it is much better then the nonslip carpet holders like the one you used. I used to use them too till I tried the pot holders.
@@duaneheadworth6275 thank you so much. 😊 I hand drew the picture on the bottom using a sharpie gel pen. I tried to use the awesome grain as the tree canopy and I think it worked well too. 😊😊
Nice one Rob! I really need to try some of that Walnut Oil. It looks so good when you put it on. Just not sure how long it stays looking like that? Gary
Thank you, Gary. 😊😊 so far the pieces I have used it on it holds up. I really like the shine and softness of the Ack’s pastes, just felt like trying some other finish. 😊😊
@Timber2Toothpicks thank you very much. 😊 I am glad that you like it. I used a Carter and son 1/2” bowl gouge (Mike Mahoney’s expert) and a home made scraper made from an unused skew. I also used Easy Wood Tools pro #1 hollower on the inside at the end of the hollowing. 😊
Thank you Mark. 😊 I would say our eastern black walnut is the most beautiful wood. 😊😊 but the English walnut really is beautiful too. Thanks for commenting. Take care.
Nice piece of wood turned to a nice bowl. Nice work Rob ! 👍🏴
@@mashmade-airth thank you, Jim. 😊
I have been working with Black Walnut lately. Beautiful wood. Take care and stay safe. From: Petawawa, Ontario.

Walnut has quickly become one of my favorites. I love the smell too.
Black walnut is definitely my favorite, but this English walnut is very nice. Love the smell, too. Thanks for commenting. 😊

I have no idea how wood turners/artists visualize what the wood can become--stunning!
@@gypsyrose5405 thank you. 😊
I prefer using a fine fermented blend of hops and barley to help my visualization. hehehe

Sometimes the wood shows us the way.
Other times it's the meds.😊

Which Walnut oil are you using?
I am always on the lookout for different finishes. I just be making one today just for fun.
@ Mahoney’s utility oil. Heat treated walnut oil. Have fun. 🤩
@@copperowlwoodturning5929 I had some that came with a lathe I bought years ago. I was surprised that it went bad.
I use it as fast as I can and I also squeeze all of the air out of the bottle. May or may not work.
Very nice job! What size was the bit you used to drill so it attached to your chuck?
@@croftracing2599 thank you. 😊 it is a 2-1/8” Forstner bit. The 50mm jaws fit perfectly in this size hole. 😊
Thanks
Really nice work! Could you be so good as to tell me what chisels you used? That was a great video. 1/2” Bowl gouge, ???
