Man, watching this episode never gets easier. Oda did such a great job at writing this conflict dude. Everyone in this show has a "treasure". Luffy's strawhat, Zoro's white sword, Chopper's hat, Nami's tangerine trees, and etc. Usopp had the Merry. You can't help but feel for him. It was a tough choice for Luffy, but as the captain he had to make the decision. Zoro really showed us why he's the vice-captain 💯
@@diego_fnogueira Cause that's what Sanji would do, Zoro doesn't interfere in what Luffy does or says unless that thing crosses his bottom line. Only when that happens will Zoro step up and tell Luffy off or stop him from doing it. Luffy almost telling Usopp to leave doesn't cross Zoro's bottom line so he leaves Luffy to make the decision to say that, while Sanji isn't the kind of person to let Luffy say that which is why he was the one to stop Luffy.
@@-Offstar Zoro shows the discipline he learned. Therefore, he tells Luffy that he is the captain and must be strong. Zoro is the embodiment of discipline in the crew. Sanji is more emotional and reacts immediately to Luffy's words.
It was never really about the Merry. Usopp is angered by luffy's decision to abandon the Merry, but deep down he's leaving because he knows that luffy and zoro and sanji and everyone else are stronger than him, and he thinks that they could abandon him when he can't keep if with their crazy adventures, just like the Merry.
Well... Monster trio is far stronger than the rest of the crew especially Nami or Chopper and they are aware of it, but they don't reflect on it too much and don't try to abandon the crew for such reason. The true reason Usopp left is that until this moment he didn't take Luffy seriously.
These are the episodes where the 15th ending plays at the end and after this moment it hits different. We are watching the crew at such inner conflicts and then the ending song is like "Hey, do you want to remember all of what we've been through?" Man that's the best ending

The thing is Ussop views the ship as alive and a crew member, and Luffy is abandoning her for another ship. Ussop also see himself being abandoned by them for his failures in the future if Luffy is willing to do it now to a crewmate. Edit: The thing is neither position is wrong, both are just being pigheaded about it.
except Luffy made the decision that was for the good of the crew, it's not something that he enjoys doing, but at the end of the day the Merry is a ship and it's reached it's end, it's not the same as a flesh and blood crewmate.
and to be fair, SPOILERS Usopp was the only one who saw the klabautermann back in skypiea, he more than anyone else knew Merry was in fact a living and conscient ship and weren't for Usopp's stubbornness, the crew would not have escaped the buster call in enies lobby, Merry sailed alone to rescue the crew and I'm tearing up again remembering that :')

@@diego_fnogueira Because Luffy was ultimately right, if you don't like the captain's decisions then don't sail on their ship. No, they can’t just ‘seal it up.’ That’s what the shipwrights explained. And the figurehead on another ship wouldn’t do anything. That’s why they also said ‘the ones who would feel it wasn’t the same ship would be you guys.’ The keel is bad. If your engine is bad in your car, getting new tires won’t help it fam. You need a whole new engine, and at that point you might as well get a new car. Similar concept, except the keel can’t be replaced at all, so that isn’t even an option here. They’ve abused the hell out of this thing, usopp has barely held it together with duct tape and glue this whole time. It’s a miracle it even made it this far tbh PS You don’t need to keep up the macho act. Reaction content is popular bc people like seeing others experience things. If you cry it’s just better content for the channel
Oda making conflict in the crew was crazy at the time luffy really had to take responsibilities as captain zoro learns here if luffy is unsure of his actions who r they going to follow
my friend you have arrived at peak piece, of course you haven't quite witnessed it all, but this arc is a masterpiece. I personally would like to see your reaction to it all it's that good, there's no part of this arc really where I would be like 'I wouldn't mind not seeing his reaction to it, not much happens'
Usopp cares about the ship so much because he thinks what happens to the ship is gonna happen to him, he wanted keep using the ship because he also wants proof that he can stay on the crew even if he’s weak, but usopp knew the ship wasn’t gonna make it when he fought Luffy, he knew he had no place on the ship that’s when he knew he wouldn’t make it as a pirate if he stayed weak. But zoro mentioned why usopps way of thinking was off in the beginning, zoro said ships are just ships but people can grow and get stronger
So a very rough explanation of why the merry can’t be fixed is the keel is basically the spine of a ship. Everything is built off of the keel and is held in place by it imagine how ribs look in a body that’s how the keel holds the ship together. Merry is an older ship even in one piece world so it just makes it more difficult to repair. If it was made of metal instead of wood it wouldn’t be much of an issue but since it’s wood it just makes it almost impossible especially with the technology they have
For Ussop it's not just about loosing a ship with sentimental value. To Ussop this is also about him and his own position in the crew. Ussop is arguably the "normal" person on the crew. He's not a monster fighter like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. He isn't a devil fruit user like Chopper and Robin. He doesn't have an essential skill for the crew like Nami and Chopper. Sure, he's a great sniper and a halfway decent inventor, but he's no shipwright. Further, he not only just lost 200 mil but also utterly failed to get it back. Ussop right now feels as if he's lagging behind the rest of the crew, that he's unable to keep up with the challenges being faced by the crew ... that, like the Merry, he's becoming obsolete. And if Luffy us willing to abandon the Merry because she's obsolete, then what does that mean for him and his future as part of the crew? Of course no one else on the crew thinks that Ussop is somehow bringing them down or otherwise not able to keep up. But Ussop's self doubts have been building for a long while and, with his TWO defeats at the hands of the Franky Family, his self-esteem is at the lowest its ever been. So yeah, he sees himself and his potential future when they're talking about abandoning the Merry.
