LUFFY VS USOPP WAS HEARTBREAKING... - One Piece Episode 235 & 236 REACTION + REVIEW!
I love Luffy's VA performance in these episodes, the few times he chokes a bit and his low voice are so different from his usual. Even if we've seen him sad before, he was usually yelling, so the soft voice is surreal, like a whole new side of Luffy.
Peak luffy VA so far
Choppers VA deserves an oscar
Well there is Sanji who thinks of Luffy's crew a lot and try to keep it intact and Zoro is one who tries to keep Luffy intact.
This moment was so sad but fkn amazing for the story imo. It shows that sometimes a captain's responsibility, dreams and the journey of the crew is ABOVE even friendship. Character work in water 7 goated fr
zoro and sanji speeches are amazing, about to not pity the loser because it makes things worse and how difficult is to be a captain of the ship, and not some captain, the future king of the pirate
Usopp had time to prepare for this fight and knew his enemy well, hence why all his attacks have such an impact on luffy, they are specially catered, whereas his other fights he doesnt have prep time or really knows his enemys before hand.
this is why water 7 & ennies lobby arc are the best, the emotion, fights, plot twist makes it legendary
Good point that Luffy probably cares about the ship a lot too
Still makes me tears even tho i watched this a 100+ times
This fight was one of the two times if ever cried watching One Piece(And the first one).I genually needed to stop and sob for a few minutes before watching the next episode because I could barely see from the tears.
Chopper hit me the whole episode with his yells, just begging them to stop and then trying to reach Usopp, even almost hitting Sanji to make him let go...Damn. The flashbacks made sure to remind you how it used to be and how freaking happy they were together. And then, the end, where Usopp is crying, Nami is crying, Chopper is crying and is completely heartbroken because he is watching his friend who was on the verge of dying get even more beaten up and he can't help him, and Luffy covers his eyes and tries to cry as silently as he can because he is the captain and he can't break down in front of his crew.
The dub actors are really good with this arc
Oh I thought we're just having a vacation here in W7. HAHA things are about to be spicier.
Luffy wasnt being considerate with the way he told Usopp about Merry. Luffy always speaks honestly and bluntly, he was simply telling Usopp what he was currently thinking "We are getting a new ship, heres some new ships i was thinking of getting". Its as simple as that. Luffy doesnt really understand social queues or care much about them. He just spits things out honestly and wholeheartedly. Unfortunately this time that cost him because Usopp was very sensitive about the topic and because Luffy didnt care to be specific and gentle with his words, things escalated and snowballed out of control.
I like how loyal zoro is to luffy we all know he didn’t wanna see usopp leave either but as luffys first mate. He doesn’t act or speak up on the subject bc he stands by him when it’s serious
I love this fight so much easily top 2 one piece fights. Before this fight we always thought the crew was a happy go lucky team and family and that they would always be together. This is the first time we see the crew break apart which breaks you apart.
after the end of this saga you'll look at this story differently
I don't know if you guys noticed, but Luffy doesn't smile at all during the time from this fight to when they make up again.
Wait really? I never caught that
I think he smiled several times but at that point, there was Sogeking.
In spite of it all… can we admit Usopp put up a hell of a fight? Even if he knew he’d lose in the end?
This is one of the moments I enjoy the most when watching reactors because everyone seems to have a different opinion about the situation, and I usually get new points of view. It really shows the nuance Oda can have when writing character scenes like this one.
Usopp had to make his stand to Luffy.
He felt useless until now having lost the money, being beaten up and weak.
The Merry can't keep going and Usopp felt like he couldn't too since Luffy cut him off.
@respectthespirits4016 You forgot Luffy told him to get the fuck out of his ship right?
That's the moment that drives Usopp to do this.
@RespectTheSpirits Sounds like you've just got a hate boner for Usopp, you're literally making shit up to hate on him lol
damn you,,, i dont want to watch this episode but i want to know yours reaction,, both of you,, you both are the best op reaction out there,, but this episode make me sick,, oohhhh man damn you kev n prezz ,, but still, i watch this episode just for to see your reaction,, and its awesome reaction ,, thx guys ,, its worth it.
Ussop has always lost a place in my top 3 strawhats for me coz after this i thought ussop will have some semblance of this dedication in his fights but i have never seen him fight like this even after 1000+ chapters. I know he did not have as much time as luffy to process the news, but wven with his insecurity you cannot endanger the lives of your friends for such a reason😢
Kinda crazy Ussop holds this grudge against Luffy cause he has to abandon the ship... Yet he hold no resentment for his father that abandoned him and his dying mother.
Ayo that's a good point lmao completely forgot that detail
Someone doesn't understand what it means
Yo
Day 255 of asking you guys, to react to all openings and endings of Danganronpa
The way zoro handled the situation was so mature he understanded the severity of the situation and told luffy what needs to be done even if it hurts cause that’s what a captain does shows why he’s one of my favourites he’s way more subtle to his character but he showcases his development of being the first mate of the ship
That's why he's the GOAT
@@TGLReacts yess sirrr
After that fight Luffy wasn’t smiling for 14/15 chapters in the manga( don’t know if the anime is the same way)
And luffys smile is iconic, so we noticed it while reading
First we noticed was after Robin's truth to do with CP9 was revealed
This is the saddest fight I’ve ever watched in the series 😭😭
Ahmm.......... Ahmm............. Sanji vs.......... Ahmmmm.......

@@brunobucciarati4219 Beatdown
Still one of my favorite moments in the entire series. Also I love how even during the argument Usopp still says Luffy will be pirate king one day. Even when he’s mad at Luffy Usopp still genuinely believes in him and his dream with all his heart. Water 7 is still peak!
I really feel for Usopp, he thinks he will be abandoned by the crew just like they abandoned Merry since he deems himself to be useless and compares himself to Merry.
Maybe some abandonment issues due to his dad leaving to become a pirate when he was a kid.
@respectthespirits4016 come off it.
@RespectTheSpirits Not really considering he is the main character and his devil fruit is more broken then you think, go read the manga.
@RespectTheSpirits Bro did you not see how Luffy reacted to the news that the Going Merry couldn't be repaired? He was in denial. Don't be dense.
@RespectTheSpirits That's kind of the point... Part of thos arc's message was that the crew NEEDED to mature as Pirates. Yeah, there can be adventures, parties, fun, and all that during the voyage, but there are also serious and denses moments. And this Arc was full of it with Merry, Usopp, Robin, The World Goverment, GP 0, FREAKING AOKIJI at the very start!
I love that I found a reactor that appreciates ussops fight as much as me for this it was the defining moment I start to respect him as a strawhat
We don't always love usopp, but this arc changed a lot
No matter how many years pass, these two episodes are some of the hardest to watch without getting choked up
Yeah i gotta give it to oda, he knows how to handle characters and this felt like my family is fighting and it felt so real that i really was so scared 😂 great writing
After the last episode it was the longest that luffy goes on without a laugh or even a smile… just because we can’t see luffy being his usual self hurts all the viewers after this…
A truly heartbreaking moment indeed. I have to admit I hated Usopp a lot after that when I was a child...
That said, Zoro is still the best crewmember, and the perfect right-hand man. If he needs to be harsh for the sack of his friends, then he'll be.
You hated character development?
@@hei7846 Lmao chill out, I was just a child hating his stubbornness.
@@hei7846 I mean, Usopp did kind of develop negatively when he got the news.
He wants to be less of a coward and more steadfast, though it ended up making him stubborn to the point of denial.
@@roidadadou5456 Did I come across as rude? Sorry English is not my first language. I am still working on it
The voice acting for Luffy and Usopp is top notch. The anger, the stress, the pain, the guilt...there's so much emotion in their performances as two best friends find themselves on opposite sides and neither can back down. I don't think it's possible to watch this far into the series and not cry during this fight.
VA's deserved a raise for sure
@@TGLReacts imagine you guys decide to watch English dub over Japanese one😂
@@axelkaseger tf
I heard from an interview that this was the first take or rehearsal and they ended up using that take because it was so emotianally good and raw and they even animated some parts again to match the emotion of the voice acting. Just tells how good it is when they end up chanching the animation so they can use the take.

Usopp took a lot of hits this arc, so maybe he needed this fight to prove to himself that he could do it.
Usopp didn't just insult Luffy as a captain but also as a friend but his inferiority complex get the best out of him, he's being too irrational and really crossed the line when he said he is leaving the gang like it was that easy. It's just right for Luffy to demand respect, a captain's decision should always be absolute during a very crucial moment like this especially when it's clearly for everyone's sake but of course Luffy is also wrong in how he told him his decision, a nicer approach would make a huge difference. Both feelings are valid, In a more logical reasons Luffy is right but if you're emotionally driven like Usopp then you would think he's right.
People forget that Luffy had virtually the exact same reaction Usopp did when he first learned the Going Merry was broken. You can't just separate people into logical vs. emotional, especially because Usopp's reasons for leaving were also very logical.
It's because he sees the Going Merry as a crewmate, and the crew is getting rid of Merry because she's "weak." He knows he's the weakest, so when he gets severely injured, he's afraid the group will abandon him like they're abandoning the Going Merry. This is all but confirmed when Luffy tells him to leave the crew during their fight.
I'm not saying one side is more valid than the other-- the whole thing is a mess-- but refusing to empathize with Usopp detracts from the whole thing.
I really enjoy your discussions, predictions and feedback in between the episodes
Glad to hear it
I like to think of it this way. Usopp and Merry joined the crew at the same time at the same place, so because the crew has to replace Merry Usopp thinks he is next because he is weak as he said himself. Also Merry was a gift from Kaya so that's another reason why Usopp doesn't want it replaced...
I mean Usopp is Usopp to the crew if you know what I mean, left out and the community not liking him as much
THIS ARC & THE NEXT ONE ARE THE MOST ICONIC ARC IN ONE PIECE. YOU'LL SOON FIND OUT WHY. KEEP WATCHING GUYS!
The first fight in the crew, we never forgot!
Finally we’re here though, Now onto to rest of this peak arc
when usopp fights for a nakama,,, there is no way u can defeat him. give him more prep time and he is undefeatable
this is the episode that set a new tone for the rest of the anime, its no longer just a goofy pirate group thats always happy
part of the reason why i think this happend like this is because usopp (imo) sees luffy as a friend first and captain second. its fine to call out your friends when you think theyre making a mistake but questioning a captains decision like this is a big difference.
compare that to zoro, who sees/treats luffy as much more of a captain
0:00 BRUH I CAN’T WAKE UP PEACEFULLY OPENING UA-cam TO THAT SHIT☠️
You love to hear it
this arc is so amazing you guys are in for an experience man
Usopp could've won if he used sea prism stone
The best fight in anime history
I always find this scene so powerful to watch, especially with reactors who are close friends. I just feel like it adds dynamic when they watch two close friends like Luffy and Usopp argue and fight in a way that on paper is illogical, but emotionally it makes sense when tensions have at times built up or not been addressed. And insecurities as well. Great reaction as always guys!!
Ussop when he has to fight the enemy: 😱
Ussop when he has to fight luffy: 🗿
Giga chad Usopp
The shot of the water hitting Merry just right to make it look like the ship is crying...hurts so much.
Is there a need to talk over every single sentence?
it's kinda hard to tell if you are paying attention to little details, face expressions or just whole scene
e: just looking at your faces, they aren't even done talking and you already thinking what to say / how to react
I always recommend to pause a video if yuh have to cool stuff to say, but you do you I don't really care tbh
I always come back to this fight. It's so heartbreaking. And I feel like Usopp fought his hardest here because no one respected the way he fought. Even himself. He had a point to prove
Luffy don't go straight to the point and telling Usopp about Going Merry condition because he's being considerate.. Luffy know how much Usopp love Merry. Just like in the filler with the man stuck inside treasure box his name probably Gaimon.. when the crew ask Luffy to bring down the treasure, Luffy said "Yada" (act as if he want to take the treasure for himself) trying to hide the fact that the treasure box is actually empty.. but then the man said he already know.. somehow the same case happened here..
.
.
.
.
Usopp actually know this (as he told Franky that he already know🙃)
*anyway this fight is actually great for the plot that about to happened next so why not😭😭
Usopp’s a mad genius when he’s got prep time. Probably the best, even!
Best fight in the series thus far.
Usopp like Batman. Weak, but if he has info on his enemies and prep time he can put up a good fight
I love when reactors get to this point because it brings out the dudes who will legit ignore things like dialogue and character development just to shit on Usopp. It's one of the more toxic sides of the fandom.
The reactors or comment section lol

This is the saddnes you feel bcs you now you see Friends fighting each other😔
Damn. Last time I saw y’all was the opening reaction now already this far in.
Don't forget that ship was a gift from Usopps girlfriend.
This was so hard to watch when I first saw it!
😭
Luffy was wrong for being nonchalant about it
But Usopp was straight up out of his mind. I literally cant side with either one.
I've always been irritated every time Usopp claimed (or tried to claim) he's the captain. Very disrespectful of Luffy to do that. But also realize that now Luffy understands more about what it what it means to be the Captain. Some will claim that Usopp is overly protective of Merry because she was a gift from Kaya. But in reality, Kaya gave her to Luffy, not Usopp. As the edits show he was going to head off on his own and Luffy invited him aboard.
Usopp has Luffy to thank for his departure. He betrayed Luffy delcared a duel and still keeps the ship even when he knew he'd lose. Much as its hard for him to let go of the Mary its even worse for the captain. I wouldn't blame Luffy if he said get out of my crew after all he's the captain everything he says goes. It was rude of Sanji to kick him like that he shoulda kicked only Usopp. Zoro is right he shoulda helped rescue ur friends first then shop for food. When it comes down to it it's mostly Sanji's fault. The pirate world is not about friendships rainbows and sunshine its about survival and competition. Every time I watch these 2 episodes I'll always be pissed at Usopp at how he betrayed the crew thinking its easy. If ur so worried about being weak why not train on what ur good at, ur the sniper shop for more damaging weapons. He's not being a team player or a good crewmate. All he cares for is a broken ship which cannot be fixed. So long and good riddance loser
@respectthespirits4016 damn right. He doent give shit about anyone but himself. He's one of my most hated characters so far. Disrespecting the crew and toss them aside like they're nothing. Thats so wrong. A crewmate who lets his insecurity and saggy ego get in the way when things get hard is just a liability and deadweight. But chopper's not like that ya he was insecure but he didnt have a big ego, and ya Usopp is a total bitch the crew is so better off without him
No man, you can't say they both wrong whatsoever ... The right point is, LUFFY is RIGHT and Usopp is wrong, that's it, there is no other answer ... Usopp has so many mistakes in this situasion ... First, He challenges his captain, the leader Luffy, second he knows that merry is dying but he says 'I DON'T CARE', third, he hurts chopper's feeling, fourth, he doesn't care about the whole crew's safety like Luffy did, ETC ... Even after read chapter 1070 of one piece, I still hate Usopp ... Not because of his character or something but because he insults and challenge LUFFY ... no matter who you are, if you did that to the 🐐 MONKEY D. LUFFY, you're dead before me
I hope Usopp is featured more prominently just so I know some neckbeard on the internet is getting this salty
