Nami saying "Usopp, don't worry about the money." was a very small moment but it just showed how MUCH she values him as a crewmate and friend because Nami is SERIOUS about money.
Exactly! Also, the way she cast the suitcase full of money aside in order to tend to Usopp when she finds him bloodied on the sidewalk. Plus, she was already prepared to spend all of the money into fixing the Merry.
And she knows exactly how It feels to have money meant to protect those she loves stolen from her. It happened to her directly in arlong park.
It’s also because even though Nami doesn’t show it as much I feel like early in the show she is very insecure just like Usopp about being a burden on her friends.
And this is expanded upon with Camie in a couple arcs from now
That's because Nami views money as security for the people she cares for. Her mother died because they were poor. She spent 8 years stealing money in order to free her village. She didn't accept a reward from Vivi like they originally agreed to because Vivi became her friend and she knew that her country needed it. People tend to call Nami greedy, and she is, but her penchant for money and treasure is a product of childhood trauma, rooted in wanting to protect the people she loves and cares about.
Still one of the best fights in One Piece imo.
The pure emotion surrounding it is unmatched, start crying everytime I see it. It's so sad.
Without question. Usopp is the man, and this fight was dynamic, brutal, awesome, and so emotional.

agreed, this is better than any fight in wano. It hits harder, its beautifully animated, and it stays true to the characters. This is by far my fav fight of the entire series

Usopp's reaction to the Merry has multiple reasons.
For one: Obviously, it was a gift from Kaya, he doesn't want to just get rid of it.
Two: He's been the one working on it this entire journey so far. He's invested all this time into making it so Merry has gotten them to where they are now.
Three: Usopp is equating his value to that of Merry's. If Merry isn't useful anymore and can be abandoned, then as soon as he isn't useful, he'll be abandoned. He feels he has to fight to prove that both he and Merry have value, and to prove Luffy's decision wrong.
Part of it is Luffy's initial casualness. He tried to hide his own pain of the decision by just ignoring it, but Usopp forced him to confront it, challenging him. Luffy has never had to deal with something like this, so his temper and frustration came out to nearly say the wrong things.
All of it comes together in some of the best writing, best drama in the entire series. Everything with Merry and Usopp is just one of the many reasons why this arc is so many peoples' favorite of the whole series.
Also Luffy is frustrated with himself. Money stolen under his nose, Usopp got beaten under his nose and Robin is missing which he couldnt protect her by being weak, as she and him where turned into ice skulptures. As the captain this should not happen.
At this point of the story, Ussop is also the only one that feels that the Merry might be self-aware and has a spirit/soul after witnessing the Klabauerman in Sky Island.
Also Luffy's casualness to abandon Merry came from a place to make Usopp not feel guilty about the money too

The moment Usopp mentions the gas, the fight goes from "oh a little fight, they gonna solve it soon hopefully" to "holy sheet they gonna kill each other pls stop".
This fight is sad, but seeing the Merry cry always breaks me.
"WAIT, WHY ARE YOU DOING FLASHBACKS?!" Oda is a troll when it comes to punches... right in the feels xD
This episode broke my heart first time I saw it... and it still gets me. It really reminds me of how it feels when you are fighting with somebody really close to you. Everybodys hurting but its too late and it all keeps happening.
Oda really wants us to feel the massive highs and lows of this journey and damn he is good at it

When I first saw this I was bawling and I couldn’t stop. I don’t think I’ve cried harder in any story - at least up to this point. The fight between them and seeing how everyone reacts just feels so real. Maybe it’s because we’ve gotten so close to them and Ussop was like Luffy’s closest friend, at least in terms of goofing off and joking around. These are Chopper and Nami’s first friends. I love that they gave time to the dialogue to breath, so the fight is so much more emotional. This arc is an emotional roller coaster.
I don't know if you're caught up with the manga or not but if you are caught up only with the anime then get ready to cause a flood in your house next year 😞

I think this scene hits so hard because it's so natural. Its not some evil person controlling them or one's ambition for power that makes them fight the rest or some little misunderstanding that leads to a fight. Its just friends arguing over something they care about and slowly escalating until they start saying dumb things. We all had that in our lives so it's really easy to relate to how they feel.
My bed was soaked in tears im not kidding😅

We all cried.. we did. Just because this was the first StrawHat internal struggle. Usopp wasn’t just upset about Merry.. he was lost in the crew. Due to the fact that he didn’t know what was his position being part of the crew. To him if Luffy can get rid of merry, Luffy can also kick him as part of the crew. He loves Merry and he was also insecure. This arc solidy the fans as a true nakama. The story-telling from starting of Water 7 to the ending of Post Ennies was just *Cheff Kiss*
Again....to repeat myself from previous video....Welcome to Water 7 arc.....one of the best arcs in One Piece.
The merry may have been the catalyst, but it alone wasn't the reason for the fight. That's what I love about this fight, not the physical duel, but the FIGHT. For the entirety of Usopp's time on the crew, he's been the jester, and while he plays it well, it does get to him. He feels like a mooch, a freeloader. He's not a fighter, and his primary role; fixing the ship is about to be usurped by the shipwright they've been talking about getting. This is the perfect time and reason for this conflict.
It doesn't help that he hasn't won a fight since Alabasta, and that was a team-up with Chopper.
And losing the Merry means he might eventually be cast off too. He alone recognizes the Merry as an actual crew member (witnessing the klabautermann) who is in serious need of help.
@@Kladyos Not necessarily true. Luffy would never leave him behind, even if he wasn't useful. Also, everyone recognizes the Merry as a crew member, that's why it's so hard for Luffy and everyone else. They get why Usopp feels the way he does, at least about the Merry, but they don't have a choice.
Someone in another video also pointed out that Usopp’s backstory has him caring for his dying mother for years too, so his attachment issues and a parallel there is understandable as well

Fight number 1 down. This is officially the kickoff. Omg i remember going through this arc for the first time, i couldnt sleep after some of these episodes. Remember thinking to myself, is this a different writer? Nah oda just shows his genius in this arc, its so well done. The feels, the drastic changes. We're here with you! Keep going!

This shows ability to drag you into a scene and make you feel like you're in that room. Watching your best friend's fight it out. There's not many shows out there that can manage that. It's a really good scene

I've seen these episodes multiple times and I still can't get through them without tears.
First time through, I had to take a break. It was too painful.

This was so hard to watch...I hate seeing friends fight and Usopp's physical pain and the entire crew having to deal with the reality of Merry's damage. Oda's craft of this saga is a masterclass in storytelling.
Can we take time to appreciate what everyone in the crew brought to the table...JUST TEARS! We supposed to be a family!

This really is one of the most painful parts of the whole series.
Before this point i loved usopp but it was here that he became my favourite character.

This was hard and its one of the iconic scenes, being a natural conflict where Usopp who think he is useless, sees himself as Going Merry where he is replacable. And Luffy is full of burden. Money being stolen under his nose, Robin missing who was before turned into ice, cause Luffy was too weak to protect her, Usopp being beaten under his nose and trying being optimistic and a good captain but its hard when it comes to a conflict with his friends where not everything goes with an Happy ending.
The Dream Arc with the Seahorse, a Filler based on a Playstation videogame was close in breaking the Straw hats by removing their memories. Foxy Pirates almost broke the Straw hats. But it was funny and not as serious as Water 7 Arc.

Ussop is a powerhouse when he wants to be, while he may not have won, but he controlled the battlefield for a good while during the fight.

This is my favorite part in all of one piece. There's just so much that's so well done here I could write a whole book on just this little part of this arc.
Damn, I always cry at Ussop departure from the crew. And that fight is TOP 3 for me no lie. The build up is devious/heart wrenching. Will always miss USSOP. Was one of my favorite crew

I remember watching this episode back in the day, the moment this fight happened, One Piece officially rocketted to the top of my all-time favourites.
Water 7 is a GOAT arc for many reasons, and this fight is just one of them.

thiese are my favourite episodes, first time i ugly cried watching any piece of media, and i still watched this with tears in my eyes throughout, the dispute just feels so real and there is 236 episodes of being attached to these characters , it just hits hard.
