Will it Run and Drive After 12 Years? | 1955 Imperial Newport HEMI V8

- Parked 19 years ago, this 1955 Imperial Newport Coupe, a luxury model made by Chrysler Mopar, is an older restoration California car that was last driven to a garage in 2004, the hemi V8 was last started and ran for about 12, twelve years ago. The car was washed and waxed before it was transported on a trailer. What will it take to just get this classic car going again?.. Will it start, will it run and will it drive??

My brother ordered and took delivery of a ‘55 Windsor coupe with the small Hemi. White over black with a red interior. Absolutely gorgeous car!
It wouldn't take much to turn this beauty into a show car.
A very well preserved 55. You can tell someone was really particular when you see the tailpipes still routed through the bumper pods the way they're supposed to be.
GOOD ON YOU for giving this beautiful car another life.
Love the video man, liking no talking tbh, nice to just seem someone working on the older stuff. well done!
The 55 Imperial was a truly gorgeous car, nothing else like it, not even the 56 Imperial.
Excellent. Sounds fabulous, and a fabulous set.
What a beautiful car this is ,and so very well preserved
This baby NEEDS her original hub caps. There's a set of them out there somewhere. No doubt pretty pricey, but worth it. Will put her over the top.
The Imperials could be had with wire wheels, but they were optional. By now OEM hubcaps would probably be hard to find.
@@joes3485yes, thanks. Those OEM wire Wheels/ some caps in these , TBIRDS, Buicks were great TOUCH…
Love the systematic logical approach to every problem. This is a great car love the gear selector! Vehicle deserves a light restoration or a large detail to do it justice. Chrome work will be expensive but it will look marvellous!
Nice old Imperial! Great job getting it running
That old girl just needs a little lovin and she'll be glad to take you anywhere you want to go!
Finally, a content provider that actually does everything, and in the right order (except filing the points). Refreshing.
I really like these old cars and especially Chrysler products
Yes, they got something extra.. Thank you for watching!
I wrote a comment once before, and still you amaze me... I love every car that you've presented here. Where ever do you find these wonderful cars? I am so impressed with the way I see you work on these beauties.
I truly wish I had the gift of knowing how to work on cars. You are magical with them. Thank you for sharing this
with all of us watching. I hope you don't stop these great videos ...
Your just great!
Great Vidio....It's all it need's a little TLC. Beautiful in and out! Thank You for the tour!
Awesome job! Keep it up! Great videos!

I watched this as I was dozing off in bed, BUT I had to watch until you got it started. Excellent!
What a fascinating vehicle inside and out! I like your editing style, not too long, no nonsense talking and both audio and video quality are very good! Thank you for the upload! Subscribed!
Nice work. Getting to that distributor in the back sure is fun with that big hood and huge hinges!
Beautiful car it's just needs cleaning and maintenance Made in the USA. Awesome.
Beautiful car . Like these videos .
She was a neglected beauty but you gave her the love and respect she deserved
Was expensive when new. Nicer than '55 lincoln or caddy. Rare to find one this original.
That's a sweet ride. I love it! Thanks for the video.
Beautiful video about a beautiful car. I loved the non-dialog and the choice of music. Your actions were easy to follow and I was glad to see you were able to get it running and driving again. Keep up the great work. 1955-56 Chryslers were so beautiful back then. 1608
That car is so sweet the thing looks to be in great shape except the front and rear bumpers need to be dipped but the rest it looks clean and ready to go
Excellent! Motor putts
Another great vid !
OUTSTANDING. She lives to drive again on the highways of the heat land.
Qué precioso auto. Tuve un Chryler y un De Soto de esos años. Excelentes y bellas máquunas.
This will RUN! Chrysler "BUILT 'EM TO"! QUALITY!
Great video beautiful car first one ive seen looks great too drive as well
I had a 1955 New Yorker Deluxe - one thing 50s hemis love is Marvel Mystery Oil !!
Elle est superbe !!
Nice design and excellent video! If I saw well, it has air conditioning ? It must have been a super-rare option back in the day.
That is after-market air. Factory Air for this car was trunk-mounted.
It’s aftermarket. The factory unit had the evaporator in the trunk and the cold air came out through the package shelf. I used to work at a dealership and a customer brought one in.
Thank you! air conditioning seems to be made by a refrigerator manufacturer!
This is a real Hemi.
GREAT JOB . FANTASIC IMPERIAL . PRECIOSO Y BELLISIMO . FROM SPAIN .
Quieres comprar uno del 57 que tengo en Italia?
Me encanta el sonido en grava,lo que camina, las llantas en grava es relajante
So tiered of the “will it run after x years” videos. Of course it will run (unless it was damaged at time of storage). It might need a coil, plugs, points, etc, but yeah, it will run! I have spend 55 years (started at age 10 with my dad) pulling antique cars out of barns in Michigan. They all ran (although, a few a bit scary). If you find one that doesn’t “run”, send it to me, I’ll take it off you hands (at a non-running price 😊).
I read a great comment about these old "will it run?" cars. They said the reason they run is because they don't have a computer to tell them they can't run.
Beautiful car!
What a beauty 😍
Relíquia 😃😃😃😃😃
Great resurrection on a deserving car!
I'm amazed at the condition of this car. Would have liked to see underneath condition. Like your very conservative style of cleaning spark plugs and points. I'd give this video 5 likes if I could.
Beautiful car
I would assume the brakes were sketchy the way you kept your hand on the parking brake. I've done the same on first rides. Good job!
wow what a car !
I want one I love the red rims
That’s a special car.
What FUN!
She deserves to be back on the road.
How much lead additive does it need to run on unleaded gas?
👍👍👍
Very lovely car,, those taillights are in a bad place though,,that to front end with emblem looking dandy
Just a awesome car in every way, I don't know why people think Cadillac was superior, this thing looks like a custom build, but was a factory car.
Imperial was literally a custom car produced by Chrysler. Much of the work was hand done. Chrysler claimed that they lost money on every Imperial sold.
Great car 8 cylinders ... Top speed 120 mph ...about 200 kmph ..., Now day 3 cylinders twin cam , turbo top speed 220 kmph ...! By Daihatsu.
Another pretty great looking interior l. How are the floor pans?
nice thing about the 331 - it has hardened valve seats from the factory
What is the silver lever beside the two gauges?
This car looks to be in very good overall condition. The bumpers look quite pitiful, though...
It’s a beautiful looking car but can’t understand why they thought the rear tail lights looked good sitting up on top! Surely most people would think they had forgotten about them altogether till last moment…..
Those taillights are what gave the car its unique look.
Who is the band playing at the start of this video?
Those spark plugs went into my Pop's 1967 Chrysler 300 400ci HEMI V-8 engine like that too!!... I would ĺove to have helped this guy repair this car.. The engines were so much easier to work on... Not smushed up together with these computer chips, none of that jazz... It would've been cool if this had a 3 on the tree instead of that boring automatic transmission...
What's up with the e-brake?
New tires and wheels are warranted
Real nice looking ride, they don't make great looking cars like these anymore and others of yesterday, the cars of today are horrible
now onto the powersteering column. then its home free
Wait! Is that silver lever actually the gear shift?
Use marvel oil in cylinders before bringing her out of long sleep once running add marvel mystery oil to fuel this helps lubricant everything 😊
do you buy these cars or just get'em running/?
What kind of car is
The car itself was an amazingly beautiful design, all except the taillights. Those should have been worked into the body itself, not sitting atop of the rear quarter panel, to become a target for any young punk with a baseball bat and the brains of a future career criminal. Anyway, in my humble opinion, I would have not designed the taillights like they had.
The nickel plating on the bumpers didn't do well on this one. Sad that they nickel instead of chrome or stainless.
I sure do hope that you can have the bumpers saved, they are another beautiful part of this amazing car.
Thanks for sharing.
Agree with the taillights, but you get used to them, and they have a nice appearance in the dark. The bumpers are a result of a cheap chrome job somewhere in the 80`s i guess when this car was restored, and you can tell by by the angle grinding marks on the backside and no sign of copper from a tripple chrome plating process. Had most likely been better looking today if they left them original. Thanks for watching!
@DaysofCars , thanks for the reply!😀
Ok, someone skimped out of a good chrome job, I understand now why that happened. 👍✌️
elle est bien jolie ..combien?
how come the bumpers be so rosty but the car so fine in paint?

Too bad it was left in a garage all those years. Hope the floor isn't gone.
Always put grease on that cam were the points are
Never seen that on an American car
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU….for NOT calling your IMPERIAL a “Chrysler ” !!!
From Wikipedia:
For the 1955 model year, the Imperial was launched and registered as a separate marque (make), apart from the Chrysler brand. It was a product of the new IMPERIAL DIVISION of Chrysler Corporation, meaning that the Imperial would be a make and division unto itself, and NOT bear the Chrysler name. Chrysler Corporation sent notices to all state licensing agencies in the then-48 states, informing them, that the Imperial, beginning in 1955, would NO LONGER be registered as a Chrysler, but as a
SEPARATE MAKE.”
Absolutely! - thank you for watching!
No such thing as a Newport Imperial. Yes for Newport, Saratoga, New Yorker and Imperial. My Fatherbought a 1955 Chrysler 300 from LF Jacod in Englewood NJ in Dec 1954. No AC and 2 speed auto with a stick rod from dash. Very gas thirsty and big and comfortable. 6Volt battery. Gun site rear lamps on Imperial. Dads car had huge vertical tail lamps.
It stood in the original documents, title of the car. I took a google search "Imperial newport" , and i got many examples of cars and even written on wikipedia. But only in 1955. Your dads car had about 50 hp more than this Imperial with that 300 option, must have been a good time to experience when these was daily drivers.. Thank you for your story
😊 krasne auto
Thanks not having the redneck talk and hillbilly music during the entire video and stupid talk of putting a Chevy pickup truck diesel in the car like most videos on here.
Im.prety sure that car is on the front cover of the group war in 1970s why can't we be friends n low rider songs
If you could afford this automobile when it was new, you paid for service to be done by a tall lanky 'grease' monkey.
Maybe an 'agile' wrench turner v the slanderous term 'grease monkey' but just noting where the points are located, [@7:14] what a pain in the sacroiliac.
You'd pretty much need the agility of a monkey to attend to the points/condenser elements in that distributor.
Rear of engine mounted distributors were common to many auto designs. Chrysler Corp. eventually changed their big-block designs to have the distributor at the front of the engine.
