Decades later, this car's features are striking. I drive a 2011 MAYBACH 57s V12 6.0 liter and appreciate my 57s's unique styling and features. Only 39 of my 57s worldwide were ever built. A lot of the additional steel and chrome, in older vehicles such as the 55 Imperial gave more protection/safety from accidents than all the airbags in smaller modern vehicles have today.

Never got one but instead i ended up with a 1954 Cadillac 75 series limousine which served me very well for many years and got me into a lot of places like up at Hearst Castle, Chateau Carolands and other historic places over the years with passengers like Countess Tolstoy, Miss America Laura Kaeppler, Drew Carey, Sir Richard Taylor to name a few, and when I play the lottery and when I win, this will be at the top of my list of things to buy!! A real beauty . I like 55 the best too. Especially in black. Had one back 64. Friend had black one I worked for Chrysler so I knew him. Traveled for living. In 65 he brought it in and ask him if he was here for lube and oil. He said "No I had valves ground at 275k it's got 450k on it now, I guess I'm feeling a little guilty he said so I'm having it overhauled although it really doesn't need it. " Chrysler pioneered Super finish. Where they polished all internal engine parts tripling engine life. Yellow cab used to run the old toothy desotos. They wrote and article for classic cars back in 82 where they said they ran those old flat sixes 600k between overhauls and bodies 1.5 million miles. most people think Imperial was just a chrysler with different emblems, but actually back in 50 imperials got bigger frame and different front and rear axles and larger bolt pattern. The limo was even 5" wider. Inside front and rear wheel bearings were 3 inch timken roller bearings. The same as a one ton truck.

That's right, it was more than just a fancier Chrysler. From 50 - 55, those long wheelbase Crown Imperials and the 1950 Town & Country Newport hardtop came with Ausco-Lambert 4 wheel disk brakes. They were optional on lesser Imperials.

In Md you can fill out a form to display original license plates as long as the tags are the correct year for the vehicle and are Md tags. You still have to keep your standard issue “historic” or “street rod” tags in the vehicle though. And for Md, at least, you have to have both front and rear matching tags. Gets tricky from 71 forward as they switched to stickers. My 72 VW has a 71 stamped tag with stickers from 72-75. Had to carefully peel off 75-73... 😉. And my 50 F1 is a 48 stamped plate with a “50 tab”! Carry over of WW2 steel rationing.

Beautiful car. So sad that Chrysler didn't upgrade their electrics to 12 volt until the '56 model year, when Imperial got a longer wheelbase and a huge restyled trunk. They kept the beautiful front end, though.
