      I usually just record with no setup but have noticed that the bass is lost completely when playing with other instruments when I've only used a condenser at the front. Here's a short video I recorded recently at a local ampitheatre which used to be a quarry if you'd like to have a listen. The night time seemed to enhance the sound too.. ua-cam.com/video/7PjYizHXC5I/v-deo.html

      Whoops! I think this should be the one...ua-cam.com/video/uSBYzdGoJ9A/v-deo.html. I've just invested in a PA and pleased with the bass sound ( both PA and mic are Samson which is probably mid-range)

    In a live setting, I use B52 in the hole (sent also to aux fed subs) and i use any good mic on front. the AKG 3000 or 414 (if you can afford it) is great, but even a 57 works good on front to add that "slap". Playing live with a lot of stage volume, you will want to put B52 a couple inches into the hole as well as front mic needs to be closest to point of attack (hands) as possible. In a recording situation, the front mic can sit back a few feet, pretty much as in the video! Great video!!

    hello. wanted to share my setup for live performance. I play a LP Soul Cajon with a LP1440M LP Cajon Mic Mount and Audix ADX-60 dynamic microphone, a Behringer 90W keyboard amp with 12" speaker, and a Sterling Audio phantom power supply to power the mic. Placement is key, but you can find the sweet-spot on the back of the cajon easily enough. this setup isolates the cajon pretty well and moves around with you if you're the kind of musician that moves around a bit as you play!! I tend to lean my cajon back and forth, sometimes sliding up and back, etc...

    I use a CM 240 UL for my Pur Vision cajòn. It is made for Pur but can be used for most models.
    It can be placed everywhere in tre inside to catch whatever sound you need. Very nice gear.

    Very nice video, just what I was looking for. You've given me ideas. I might try an M/S setup with two mics, a figure of 8 ribbon and a condenser, both in the front. The bass drum mic on the back did not really add much to me on your example. I will experiment with my d112, though. Thanks for doing this. Regards!

    I've been experimenting over the past 2 weeks with a Pearl Boom Box. I tried a cheap pencil condenser (SDC), but that didnt give me the sound I liked. Put a kick drum mic like yours on (this is all Subzero branded stuff) and liked it more. I have the original 1990s c3000 (before the B revision), must try that some time.

    I like this, I don't have a kick drum mic, yet, and have been using a SM57 and an old Japanese "pencil" condenser mic called a Toa K4 (both into a Scarlett 18i20). But that makes a lot of sense to use a kick drum mic on the back, I can feel the air coming out when I hit it. $50 for the pair of C-2's feels like a steal, though, thanks for sharing!

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  3 роки тому +1

      Overhead mics are generally condenser type designed to capture more delicate sounds and higher frequencies, in this case the room sound. The SM57 is great mic but is dynamic type, more directional, great to use it close to the cajon either in the front or in the back.

    Hi Felipe, what set up do you recommend for a live performance please? We get so much conflicting advice as to whether the mic should be in front of the cajon or behind the cajon? Very often we are outdoors, does this make a difference? Although we do play indoors as well! We are never in a studio setting. We can't really have more than one mic on the cajon as we are a ukulele band and most of the other inputs are already taken up with vocal mics. I'd really appreciate your help and advice! Thanks, Kris :)

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  Рік тому +1

      Hi Kris, if you have one channel I would recommend the shure beta 91 than can be used in the floor in the front plate or even inside of the cajon. I haven’t tested myself but heard good things about it. Another option would be a sm57 in the back this also works if you have only one channel available

      @@CajonMaster thank you for this! Also, I own a Schlagwerk Deluxe Makassar which I love, but our regular cajon player has a Sela Varios. I had a go with his at the weekend and was really surprised to find the snares located at the bottom! It meant the usual pattern I play didn't seem to work, as where I usually hit for bass (as per your course) was very snare heavy with the snares being at the bottom rather than nearer the top. Is this normal? I'm no expert, but you are! Thanks! :)
