  • This one took a LOT of shackle tension to decode, I’m guessing it must have been used a lot.

      I usually use a thin wire or sum down the opening for resetting the combination to align the gates together then moving the pack together to open these.

    I loved it when I used this technique on a much simpler lock in an escape room once. “Where was the combination?” “I dunno I just decoded the lock…”

    they can be tricky to decode, when the internals are filled with dust and dirt. I use my interflon fine lube, that I also use for my ruko cylinders, to get the wheels to move more freely, when I have to decode them, It also helps the fence to fall into the gate.

    I'd love more decoding videos.
    I only got into locks because I like intricate precision mechanics, I've still never successfully picked a lock (probably for lack of equipment) but I've decoded many. By trade, I'm a repairman, and I've got the authority to go through any lock in my way and replace it (except for utilities and stuff like that, police and banks..)

    I was using that method to open bicycle locks 40 or so years ago.
    As an adolescent, I thought it was funny to unlock all the bikes at a bike stand, then put all the locks back on different bikes.
    Later on I discovered when the lock is open I could remove a c-clip and change the order of the combination wheels, or even exchange them with other locks of the same type.
    Then I discovered kids (same age as i was) would pay me a dollar to unlock their bike and tell them the new combination.....until they wised up and realised it was me that changed them to start with. After that others started playing with the locks and it wasn't long before a lot of people knew how to decode them easily, and ppl stopped using those locks and switched to a cable and padlock, then in another decade the U-bolt style locks came with tubular locks.

    Thin shim stock or a feeler gauge trimmed to a thin point. Take that and slip it beside the number wheels. Turn each wheel until you feel the point drop into a groove. Line up all of the wheels this way, and advance each one by one number at the same time, and it will unlock - usually 180 degrees from where you found the notches.

    Hi I know this isn't about combination locks , I was wondering if you have tried out or heard of a product that i saw in bump key UK , it's Yale lishi style lock decoder. If you have can you let me know what you think of it as I'm thinking of purchasing one which you can get in euro or rim lock style ??? And please can you tell me the difference between euro and rim locks? Hope to hear from you soon Phil

  • @bubzthetroll

    I haven’t tried this myself but I wonder if you took a small bar clamp and used it as a spreader to hold tension on the shackle you might save your hands from some stress.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Рік тому

      The problem is, you have to vary the tension based on feel. Constant force wouldn’t work very well

  • @penfold7800
    @penfold7800 Рік тому

    Yes, those yale combos are a bit tricky because they do have false gates. Unlike the squire combos, the false gates arent all directly opposite the true gates. Trying to decipher one of these thats a bit battered and full of grit is especially challenging. I really dont know though, why they leave so little depth for the opening end of the shackle. It would have also been very easy to include a ballbearing mechanism (ballbearing-connecting bar-ballbearing) that locks the opening end of the shackle when the other end is depressed into the wheels. A shame they didnt do that yet.

      @@jeffandthings77 ... and if its REALLY stiff, wrap a cloth through the shackle and pull down on that. The wierd thing is, if im doing this, then im using my left hand to turn the wheels, whereas when im picking a lock i use my right hand for the pick and left hand for the tensioner.

    You missed a small step. Attach the loose end of the chain to a hydraulic piston. Over charge the piston with some no2. Set it to wumbo, then use a shim to decode. 😁

    Maybe you could try using a needle in the hole used to reset the combination and turning wheels until the needle is at the bottom. Once you're done doing that you just have to move all the wheels 90 or 180 degrees depending on the model and it should open easily => ua-cam.com/video/8gIdcFJZBv4/v-deo.html
