(picking 528) Yale combination padlock decoded - false gates defeated / decoding tricks explained

- I show how this beautiful combination padlock with false gates can be decoded / opened / cracked without knowing the combination (start at 2:45) - it's a Yale model Y150/40. With some attention to the feedback it's not too difficult and great fun. The secret is to interpret the feedback of false / true gates correctly as this can be superimposed by the friction of the inner wheels or reduced by wheels binding with low intensity.

Thanks so much. I have had a peli case for many years that i have not been able to open due to a forgotten combo. I have revisited the locksport UA-cam community many times, but your video is the first one i have found that actually explained exactly what i was looking for. It took me about 5 mins (plus the last 8 years of occasional attempts) to open my lock and reclaim my peli case. Thanks again.
Oh wow, great. Thanks for the feedback and for letting us read your story. I'm very happy that you could make use of my video and got free your stuff. Cheers and hope you found it also entertaining to decode your lock ;-)
First time decoding a lock, trying to open a lonely, lost padlock that I found on the street. Looked at some random videos but couldn't get the methods to work, found this video and realized it's because I had found a is a SUPER FANCY TRICKY LOCK (Yale 150/30)! Finally got it open today, after about a week of trying this method and the not-pulling-the-shackle-method from another video. In the end I got more lucky than skilled, so no lock-whisperer yet, but glad I managed to open it without having to resort to the "brute force"-method of trying every combination!
Took a while trying to follow this and other videos before I got the feel of tension/no tension, springiness/firmness, and particularly clicks, moreso the feel of clicks as they're barely audible. Came back to your video and on second try, success! (syneco brass combo lock)
Thank you Sir! your technique really works.
Thanks for the feedback - glad to read that it worked out for you.
All you need is a long needle. Put it in de hole from above, en rotate the first wheel. At a point the needle will fall deeper onto the second wheel, turn the second wheel, and so on. Reed the number and turn all the wheels just one notch. Do this (turning one notch) untill the locks opens.
Worked great forgot the combination and this sorted it thank you
Wow thank you for showing how to decode this beautiful combination lock in such an expert way! :D I noticed the "mushy" gates with my one sometimes, but I didn't work that bit out - but you figured it all out! Thank you for teaching me, my master! :D I see that you've built up a really good "feel" from experience, where sometimes you were able to settle on a number that wasn't very obvious, but it turned out to be correct. Same for choose which wheel to pick on. Well done and thank you once again!
Too kind my friend. Yeah, this lock teaches a lot of the facets of decoding. Did you notice that the feedback changes over time? Now it feel different to when it was new - the binding order has changed, it's actually getting easier.
Interesting! Hmmm I have noticed with some combination locks they get easier over time (and I think it might be my tension actually scratching the lock or something). That might have happened on this lock and I mistook it for me getting better at decoding it (which might be true too). Maybe a combination of both. :D Let me have another play with it... :D
I had a further play, and I still don't have the "feel" that you do yet, and I still find this lock quite tough. You are still the master, and I am still the student! :D
Let me tell you something. I was sent a couple of combination lock in the almost 3 years of doing lockpicking. Simple locks without false gates, big lock, old, new, all kinds. All gave me trouble in the beginning and I was carrying around the locks that I was working on. I gave it a play and thought when ever I had some spare minutes (waiting somewhere, in the train, etc.). My brain was running hot trying to make sense out of the various feedback. I slowly got the right touch and discovered categories of methods. I took the locks apart and studies the components. This was the most exciting time for me. To have a lock where I still need to learn to interpret the feedback is the most valuable present for me. As you're interested in decoding, please take the change to enjoy the process of intellectual and intuitive understanding these locks. I don't like the master, student wording. We are all learners. I can only give you some tips but the joy of developing the right feeling and your brain getting familiar with the complexity of feedback is all between you and your combination locks.
Swynndla I like the video and the way u showed the lock thank you this is Mike
Best video I am trying for 7 hours but unable even after viewing multiple videos, after viewing this video it's 5 mjns and done
Cool - thanks for the nice feedback.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH IT HELPED ME SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad it worked for me.
Thanks it worked ! After forgetting the code ...Reset new code to remember.....
You're welcome.
Another combi lock down. Great work again. I like these rounded Yale bodies:-)
Thanks mate, this lock is so beautiful and I'm also glad that it shows some resistance on decoding.
Have the same padlock model and mine can be opened without pulling the shackle during decoding. In true gates, wheels are moving up and down quite a bit .
Really, can you show how you do that?
I figured that in mine when wheel is in a false gate it is springy, and if you move it from one side or another it will always spring back. In true gates however if you move the wheel up or down, it stays.
Love your decoding video's ... you're the master with them for sure!
Thanks for this fun video!
Thanks - great to read that you had fun watching - I love decoding padlocks :-)
Nicely done, this makes me want to try decoding a few of the combo locks I have.
Haha, have fun with these toys ;-)
Potti the combo man! Alway's a pleasure to watch. 😁👍🏽
Thank you buddy - combo locks are great for me :-)
Very cool stuff. Great learning for me. Cheers for uploading 👍
Great to read that it was helpful.
yale padlocks have the logo on the front in the lower right corner. guess that's why the line is on the side allowing that design
OK - I see, although I had changed the combination more than once to a known one and wondered why it didn't open again. I looked at the wrong side - that line's position is counter intuitive for me ;-)
Can someone help me. Ive found a lock that is locked but its locked backwards. As if it is in the reset code position but not pushed down. I cant figure out the code. Do I pull on the shackle while turning? sometimes when I do that, the wheels are stuck and cant be turned. I need some help T_T
Schakle is down and I can't lift it up in open state....... Please help
try this ua-cam.com/video/kAlBM6UdOjM/v-deo.html
How about the basic model the no number model? Is it the same way of cracking the code?
All these kind of locks work in the same way - pull and feel the gates.
Awesome job my friend really enjoyed this video😊👍😎😊😊😎😊
Thank you - glad you liked it.
I have this same lock and the shackle is turned 180 degrees pushed down and it's stuck in there. I am not able to reset the password nor push the shackle back up. Any help would be really appreciated. Great video by the way. Thank you.
Oh, that's weird. Try to decode it open if you feel wheels binding when pulling on the shackle.
@@Potti314 None of the wheels seem to be binding : ( We just bought a new padlock, it's a mess. Thanks by the way. Great and helpful videos. Subscribed.
Same situation is with mine.... Did you make any video on that
I don’t understand why sometimes when pulling on the shackle if I find a gate the wheel gets stuck, other times no wheel gets stuck at all even though I’m pulling. Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
Check the alignment of the other wheels when turning your wheel to get consistent results. Also there are false gates and binding and non binding wheels to differentiate. Take your time to explore your lock and enjoy.
Thanks for the show your master 😀👍
Haha, thanks my friend :-)
Try putting the code you set it too.. Works pretty fast
It's about the fun of decoding ;-)
Can you make a new code when it is open. And how. I have tried but it won’t open all the way.
You can change the code by rotating the open shackle to 90 or 180 degree and pushing it down. Change the code, then release the shackle. Close and re-lock it. Done.
But the shackle won’t come all the way back up, when I reset it
Could it be wear on the lock like here ua-cam.com/video/TN9TxW9koJs/v-deo.html
Potti314 Hi again I’ll try to upload a video som day so I can explain what I mean. But thanks for now.
My shackle is open and will freely rotate, the correct code is in place but the shackle won’t lock home.. and I can’t turn the wheels. Any ideas
Cheers ✌️
Thanks❤
You're welcome 😊
Amazing decoding session again my friend, love these vids, very interesting decoding method, finesse decoding, thanks for showing buddy ;o))
Thanks my friend, this is such a nice lock and thankfully puts up a little fight when decoding. Happy that I have it in my collection.
Make it in HINDI or MARATHI voice version, please......
So my Yale lock is locked in a open position and can’t open it... I even tried to do what the video said but didn’t work!
Can you by any chance help me?
Have you tried this ua-cam.com/video/kAlBM6UdOjM/v-deo.html ?
En español por favor
I don't speak Spanish, but checkout ua-cam.com/video/qQrLOkCpxCo/v-deo.html and the following ones.
It's not working wah
Not understand
How can I help you?
@@Potti314 im malaysian,so im not pro too much in eng language
Nice decoding. Thanks for the explanation and tips on decoding.
Cheers buddy and thanks for watching.
