I was in Gary two weeks ago the day after Christmas coming from my husband's hometown, Milwaukee. We stopped to see and take pics at the Jackson home. Would have loved to stay longer and tour the city and see the rest of some of the Jackson's stomping grounds, but being outside the house they lived in everyday and standing on the same ground and breathing the same air they did and looking at the same view of their neighborhood from which they saw everyday was enough for me, but would have loved to see that mural.

Amazing video, It’s just hard to believe that such a successful family that came from that city. To see the Jackson home on Jackson St with the message boards. You look at the mural earlier in the video, but then when you look at the drive with the blight and decaying structures and it just so sad. To think with Michael Jackson alone from his siblings what less than 1% of his net worth was when he finally came to Gary in what was it 2003? You would be like look at my hometown, the history started with the Jackson’s. Wouldn’t you want to see a difference for the future of that city?
Great video, thanks for taking the time to drive around and posting what you do. . .

My wife & I went to this house 🏡 a years back more likely in 2018. I told her that this is where it started from. A small comfy house with a big family. All the Jackson boys slept in 1 room & the Jackson girls slept in another room. In this house, there was a lot of love 💕 before moving to California.

If the videos are about the 5ive alive boys from Gary, Indiana or related to them, I’ll be happy to watch your videos. Why? Cuz my wife & I are deaf but I had a hearing aid & grew up listening & following every J5ive, Jacksons, & a few MJ records. I never listened to any other music group except a few like just 1 album from Billy Joel.
      It’s alooooong story.
      To sum it up,
During my childhood, I was a racist against the blacks. Why? I saw on TV 📺 the police 👮🏻‍♂️beating blacks up. To my view, I see that black people are bad people & the cops 👮🏻‍♂️ are good. Until that day at age 8, my oldest brother encouraged me to watch the Jackson 5ive - Going Back to Indiana.
At that time, there was no caption on tv till later on in 1980 caption on tv started.
Anyway when my oldest brother showed me the Jackson 5 record, I said to myself, “they’re blacks”. My brother pulled me to watch them cuz he said they are great 👍🏽 singing 🎤 group. I argued that the Partridge Family are better. He said that the Partridge Family are a fake music group & only David Cassidy & Shirley Jones are real singers 🎤. Then I was disappointed ☹️ to find out they are a fake group.
What happened next, on that day, the J5 were singing & Bill Cosby was introducing the J5. To be honest, as a child, all of the J5 songs were boring until the very last song 🎵. A fast paced “Going Back to Indiana”. I absolutely was inspired with that song.
After that day, my oldest brother also had a J5 song book 📖. With out the words and how the music notes were like. I’m memorized, the going back to Indiana words.
Since that day, I always listened to J5 records. That’s the story. I once was a racist and I believe that God moves in mystery ways. He used the J5 to change my heart ❤️ against the blacks. I love those blacks.
Advice: It’s not what color your skin is but know that the color of our blood 🩸 will always be red.
It’s not what color you are but looking inside is what counts.

This is incredible footage! How can I contact you to use portions of this footage, especially the scenes at the mural and the 2300 Jackson Street home? Much of the footage that I have of the Jackson Family Home and the interior of the mirror home across the street was before the fencing, landscaping, and other modern improvements. I am currently in the editing phase of a documentary that was originally shot in 2010 shortly after Michael Jackson's death. It is also forty-five years after the Emmett Till Funeral. The documentary, Looking For Emmett Till: An American Boy Tour Project, seeks to make links between Emmett Till, Michael Jackson, and Oscar Grant to discuss the larger theme of black life and mortality in contemporary society. I would of course credit you in keeping with Fair Use Standards.

I've been google mapping street view on Gary and found some buildings that I'm dying to know what they look like inside. The 700 block of East Avenue ( Emerson visual school of performing Arts) 1625 Connecticut Ave, )a sad but gorgeous house that looks like it had a million happy memories long ago) 301 East 19th Ave ( an abandoned apt building that looks like it could have been on a" Leave it to Beaver episode") 1320 east 19th Ave Daniel Hale elementary ( It looked deserted but I could not tell ) love your channel and cant wait for you to post more as you have time. Jajitha Jaji search for Inside 2300 Jackson Street. There is a clip from “Life with Latoya” from a few years back where LaToya Jackson visits Gary with her mom and they tour the house! I think Katherine Jackson still owns this house. Check it out!

They're fixing the streets in certain areas like Grant St. and even Broadway now. Slow improvements in some areas, of course, much more is needed.

I was from gray and this didn't look like this when I was growing up. When the still mill. Close down every thing such went. My dad work at the still mill. Where Michael dad work at. The same time thing was Bowring but Michael and his family. Life before it got bad to make it better live. But Michael never forgot how he was. And were he was from. Michael had good heart. He try to help people. That was in need. He did everything he good to help other. And of people talk bad about him then should. Be talking want he done for other all over the world. But some people get see how Michael really was. A good man and the stuff then say about him the bad shirt was never true about him. And Michael was not gay homesex believe Michael was a a man that love woman. He was pover we all didn't need to about his sex live. That his was his pover live how would then like it we do the same to them everywhere then went how then how then seeing how then were have sex with it didn't matter to me. Michael was a human. Not some ampler in a cage. And yes that how Michael fill then when he try to tell them then made shirt up to make a store. Up that sell Kown matter want it case the one then hunt
