I think it's worth trying to upgrade the RAM to 4GB. My old Dell circa 2006 officially supported only 2GB max, but it worked with 4GB DDR2 (3.25 usable in 32-bit Windows 7).

I have a 4730 z-which i assume is an older with the same processor and amount of memory and it looks identical looking to yours. I have an SSD and and a copy of Linux Lite on it and it plays You tube videos up to 720p well. i have never tried to game on it,though. Perhaps the operating system demands make the YT vids player better with less memory demand. Enjoyed the video.
Install a Intel Core 2 duo T9300 processor and RAM 2gb+2gb (DDR2-667, DDR2-800) in your laptop and the laptop's performance will increase. This laptop is not suitable for gaming. Well, maybe you can install a second OS (Windows XP 32bit) on the SSD and play old games (2000-2008)
This video randomly came up, and reminded me I have one of these in a cupboard somewhere. Got it off my mum 3 years ago, she had used it a hand full of time since 2008, so it's in great condition. Discovered CPU is upgradable so put a compatible £5 quad core in. But haven't touched it since then. Ram and battery next I think.
You should check if your board can handle CPU upgrade. I changed my desktop CPU from a core 2 to a core 2 quad core for $25. and now the UA-cam lag problems have disappeared. If the CPU are not sodered on then there is a possibility. It requires research in your mother board capability.

Hmm with hardware this old it does help to install chipset drivers, I don't want to advertise here, but i use driver easy, even in the free version which is super slow and you have to install the downloaded ini files manually you at least get all the drivers you need. The problem is that a default windows 10 somtimes just runns on high compatibility drivers for old hardware, which sometimes doesnt run full speed on the sata port (as an example) making your hardware slower than it needs to be, and updated drivers do help at least a bit. Thouh i say with older dual cores and 2gb of ram windows 10 is a pain, i know that from experience too. Great video still!

I have this laptop, got it 3 years ago, grabbed a compatible quad core (forget which one) for about £5. Works nice, although I've done nothing with it since test as want to fit 8 gig ram and new battery.
I have an old acer aspire as 1410 and i consider the same or even worse problem with its 1.4 ghz single core processor i then installed lubuntu on it and it made a huge difference i can even watch yt videos now and i did uprade to an ssd maxing out the sata 3 limits
You said lububtu? Originally this had an old version of Ubuntu on it but honestly it wasn't much better - there were Wlan driver incompatibilities with Linux that made the internet even slower.
I think that if you install the newest version of lubuntu the pc would work just fine because mine is also from 2009 and even slower as yours and it runs perfectly i wish you good luck with it ;)

:facepalm: You can't run anything above XP with only 2GB's of RAM. You will destroy that SSD in short order as Windows 10 will be using it non-stop as VM. Good luck pulling down any updates without it blue screening. 4GB's is the bare minimum to boot any Windows past XP without going into VM right at boot. even then, with only 4GB's, it may not even install the updates properly.

The weird thing is my 2011 acer aspire 4750g blue colored model can run outlast at a whopping 54 fps to 62 fps at lowest graphics BUT it runs minecraft at 8 fps to 6 fps at lowest graphics and the specs of my acer is an intel i5-2410m and a gt 540m ddr2 2 gb but i recently installed windows 10 pro and it was struggling like yours. SO i'm still confused why outlast is running smoothly instead of minecraft which is much older than outlast. -_-
little RAM. You have DDR3-1333 type RAM. Buy a second memory module for 4GB or 8GB (so-dimm DDR3-1333) => 2gb+4gb, 2gb+8gb. You can install the processor better: i7-2630qm

I have a dell inspiron 1545, upgraded my CPU from T4200 to P8800 and replaced the HDD with a SSD. I did it a few years back, and it was working great back then. In 2022, I don't really recommend upgrade it any more, unless you are like me who only do light gaming. There are a few $300+ laptops on the market now that run significantly better than my old laptop.

As it stands it will not, on its own, run Fortnite. I'd like to try Stadia and see how that runs, and if Fortnite comes to Stadia it could work! Stadia does have less requirements than GeForce Now, so it could work!

I am surprised that you did not upgrade the cpu. A Core 2 Duo T7800 ( 2,6ghz ) should work in it.

Wonder how fast it would have ran Unbuttplug, with just the new drive...
Slitaz uses 45MB RAM on boot, though for this a more advanced distro like Bodhi Linux which uses about 170MB RAM should help this run faster.
It's possible to have Debian or even Arch on this laptop too; Bodhi Linux is an Ubuntu-based distro
Crazy ideas....but, for this configuration try to install windows 7. It will run smoother without have to disable any resources.

You should try some windows tweaking tools, they might be able to speed up windows a little bit here and there
upgrade the CPU. You could probably get a used upgraded board for cheap.

why my laptop that younger than your laptop can't even install win 7 pro 64 bit? I stuck at win 7 ulti 32 bit, when i try to install win 7 pro 64 bit or win 10 it can't be. Btw my laptop toshiba satellite L630 with i3-350m processor
how much ram do you have? and if you eant windows 10 i suggest you to get an ssd

As it stands it will not, on its own, run Fortnite. I'd like to try Stadia and see how that runs, and if Fortnite comes to Stadia it could work! Stadia does have less requirements than GeForce Now, so it could work!
