Pretty unusually for a touch device. And with the plastic bezel like that, it really looks like a just bare LCD. I would have never guessed that it was touchscreen either haha.
Just my 2 cents, if you see white corrosion, due to water it is almost always a base. Actually almost all of the time on electronics, when you see corrosion, it will be due to base and not acid - even the batteries contain basic solution. So in order to remove it, put some white vinegar on it, then clean it using an ionised water (or even tap water) and then put the PCB in oven at 90 deg. C for 30 min. For extra precaution you can later use IPA, but in my opinion there are much better things (chemistry wise) to IPA. I use IPA only for cleaning lens and old thermal paste - and I do SMD board repair daily.
I feel like Acer’s gone from what I’ve considered a crappy brand to a surprisingly decent brand of laptops. My girlfriend got sent out one of their Chromebooks we got to keep after that job was completed. It’s a pretty solid machine, especially for a Chromebook. Solid build quality, satisfying keyboard, and a great 1080p IPS panel which is unheard of for Chromebooks. Acer also happens to make some nice backpacks! Picked up a Predator backpack a while back at Microcenter and it’s quite nice. TLDR: Acer isn’t the crap they were in the 2000’s.

I knew someone who found 2 Acer desktops next to a dumpster. Both were in good shape. No scratches on the cases nor were they dusty. When he started them they booted into windows (They were office computers and the office data was still in them) He reinstalled windows and gave them to his daughters.

Nice restoration of a decent laptop. Acer has been one of my favorite laptop brands for over a decade. I am missing it now, but that flimsy case is not looking great. Thanks for the vid anyways!
Found a bunch of tech behind PC world in the Uk, 2 were laptops that only needed new drives and they worked. In the pile I found the chargers. Literally no damage. Also found a US ps2 with 100 games and a Xbox 360 250gb with 2 controllers which works perfectly fine too. Crazy what gets thrown away when traded in. (I took the Xbox to CEX to put the cash towards a GPU for the gf)
Great video Nathan. As far as Main Board Corrosion, I would recommend using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean corrosion that you couldn't get to with the ISO and toothbrush since corrosion can get under the soldered on chips including the CPU and GPU if this was a gaming laptop. I know this from experience. Louis Rossmann has some great tutorials on MacBook logic board repair and he said with corrosion, ALWAYS USE AN ULTRASONIC CLEANER!
Agree on that! There is ALOT of gunk wich may end up around the processor pads/solder balls, also corrosion and stuf. The best way to clean it would be after scrubbing, to put it into the utlrasonic cleaner.
Wow who knew Acer had such good laptops. I didn't even know they made touch screen laptops, and not to even mentions that considering the laptop's thinnes and what it went through I am genuinly impressed
I've used a very old DELL i5 7200U laptop paired with an AMD Radeon R5 M420. Until it's very last few months it didn't even have an SSD on it, which I installed due to it being painfully slow on the HDD. Had to sacrifice the CD ROM drive on it, but was worth it. Not gonna lie, it made for a very decent low end gaming rig and emulation rig. It even ran Minecraft 1.18.1 well! I saved up, got myself a newer gaming laptop and now my old laptop is handed down to my family and still in good use!
Bro i have lenvo laptop with intel 6200u and amd r7360 and i did same installed 240gb ssd in cd drive and its still strong for everyday tasks and many old games and the orginal battery still working i bought in end of 2016 or starting of 2017 great machine for price
A neighbor tossed out 3 laptops: a Toshiba Satellite (DDR2, so it's a bit old) & 2 Asus. One is a N550JV, & the other is a x205t. Both Asus are apart, & 1 is missing several parts! But I think the N550 still might work! But! Unlike yours, the N550 needs parts! The Acer you got ahold of is a great find!
Other than the corrosion thing and the dirtiness, I dont know why anyone would ever throw a laptop away like that, It is powerful enough to rival some newer laptops and even some newer desktops
Looks like a smaller version of my Aspire A515, that one has a 15 inch screen, same CPU and RAM. Got it for free from my mothers workplace, had a dead HDD in it, but otherwise works fine, although my left hinge is broken, so Ill have to work out a fix for that eventually. Nice find! The palmrest on mine does look wore out, as there are a few silverish spots on it that I have not been able to fix, although one of them i think was underneath some paper taped on it, so not sure what is up with that. Otherwise it is in decent condition.
I was walking home last night and found a 27 inch Apple Cinema display with a VESA mount on the back on the sidewalk ! Outer glass was smashed. Really dirty. Cleaned it up & referred to you in my video saying you love eucalyptus oil. Cables are ok. Inner screen intact. Sides of aluminum look rusty. I plugged it in and nothing went poof. I’m wondering what Mac or Macbook could connect to this. It has a magnetic connector and some kind of video connector. I only have one Mac it might connect to my Silicon M1 Mac Mini. All my others Imacs ( which need repair ) are 2010 or older. I don’t think my working 2009 Macbook Pro would connect to it either. Rear case in fairly good shape.
Im bringing back to life a Acer Aspire V5 laptop my son had who forgot the screen password , so it was re formatted . Replaced the dead battery. Now cloning the HD to a SSD and adding 8gb memory. It has 4gb soldered on. What I like is you can open and lift the screen/lid with one finger
My buddy saved a couple laptops from e-waste for me and I plan on working on them next week. I've always wanted to try my hand at refurbishing discarded tech.
3:00 You don't actually need to create a partition, just click on "next" so it doesn't make 4 partitions on your drive, if you click on next, it will just make 2 of them. By the way you're using a VERY old version of Windows (1607) which is from 2016, you should update your USB key with the latest version (21H2) :)
You should see if this laptop has an OEM license for windows 10. When I dealt with laptops, the big vendors had a bios built in license, which was accessible by installing a OEM specific windows version. Also I used WD40 contact cleaner spray on liquid damaged boards with better success alongside IPA.
I watched this video on an acer extensa and im very impressed by the performance and cost .Its very easy to repair or to upgrade so i will stick with this laptop for some years : ).I see that easy to repair is a real claim that acer gives to customers.
god DAMN that laptop is in literally perfect functioning order i wish i found stuff like that how shallow and and uninvolved does one have to be to throw away something like this??
Maybe the owner thought no body would want a water damaged laptop. Even if he didn't list it as water damaged as it still worked, that'd be a dick move.
That's brilliant! It's ecological and you can also sell it, make some extra money and reduce e-waste. Sadly, in Europe, we don't have anything like e-waste bins where you can save some electronics.
It's better to use something like vinegar to neutralize the corrosion first and then clean it off with rubbing alcohol, or give it a bath in an ultrasonic cleaner. Also you're lucky it's not a high powered CPU because a bent heat pipe is much worse at conducting heat than an undamaged one. Anyway, still a great and satisfying video, keep it up!

I knew someone who found 2 Acer desktops next to a dumpster. Both were in good shape. No scratches on the cases nor were they dusty. When he started them they booted into windows (They were office computers and the office data was still in them) He reinstalled windows and gave them to his daughters.
That a really good laptop, I love what you are doing I hate it when laptops like that get Wasted it so dumb…. We are thankful for people like you.. I my self also sometimes repair laptops gives me a good feeling..
Nice restoration of a decent laptop. Acer has been one of my favorite laptop brands for over a decade. I am missing it now, but that flimsy case is not looking great. Thanks for the vid anyways!
Great to see the laptop back in great condition. also early lol.
One of my favourite UA-camrs 🙏🏻
Great video! But I have to tell you, for every time you install Windows 10 Version 1607, a part of me dies. 😢
Great video as always! Keep them coming please!
Haven’t even watched it yet, but I already know it’s gonna be awesome :)
it looks really slick and nicer then my current laptop!
You said my Acer laptop is trash, and it is
I love to watch you clean, you big cleanly stud haha
I guess it just really had the time to completely dry out in the pile - hence it works fine now :D Nice find! Thanks for sharing.
Great find! You should show us how good it is for Emulation and certain games. That would attract alot more viewers. Kind of like an ETA Prime video.
Truly a nice dumpster find especially that it worked perfectly!
the touch screen was the icing on the cake
Yo I'm still running one of these laptops here in Australia! Works pretty well.
My buddy saved a couple laptops from e-waste for me and I plan on working on them next week. I've always wanted to try my hand at refurbishing discarded tech.
How old must your Windows install USB be that it's still got the original wallpaper? It's probably worth reflashing it with the latest version.
Man the stuff people throw out is nuts luckly ive been able to snag some stuff from recyling several times
Nicely done! :)
Oooh like the usb thumb drive with windows logo!
Saw that CR series in the beginning! Just picked up an old Sony CR-490 and it is kind of a gorgeous relic. Really wish driver support existed tho...
It's such a coincidence that I'm watching this on an Acer laptop from about 10 years ago. Their laptops are quite durable and last a very long time.
god DAMN
that laptop is in literally perfect functioning order
i wish i found stuff like that
how shallow and and uninvolved does one have to be to throw away something like this??
Maybe the owner thought no body would want a water damaged laptop. Even if he didn't list it as water damaged as it still worked, that'd be a dick move.
Maybe listing it as water damage for a 20 or 25 dollars would have been fine though
That's brilliant! It's ecological and you can also sell it, make some extra money and reduce e-waste. Sadly, in Europe, we don't have anything like e-waste bins where you can save some electronics.
it might not rlly fit my use case but i wouldnt mind grabbing myself a laptop like that when i feel like doing simple tasks
Save them fix the laptops!
Nice work 👍
This will be a useful machine for some family member !
Really nice laptop and surprising it has a touchscreen given it doesn't have glass!
GREAT find!!!
Nice vid my man keep up the good work
I don't know if I want to 😥or 🤬 the fact that this machine almost became e-waste. Appreciate the work you did to help restore it.
That's a great find!
I had an idea to fix these laptops and put linux or windows and sell it for a cheaper price
thank you for getting the erver back online
Appreciate You for watching and commenting🤗🎄
Send a direct message right away, you just won a gift🎁🎁🎈🎈💃💃💃💃💃💃
