Girl quit playin! You look amazing! Not trying to be weird or anything... This is the internet. I've been growing my locks for 12yrs now and I always get compliments for maintaining them. I must say that you really keep yours looking great. I can appreciate the tutorials that you have so those that couldn't now can keep them up. Nothing worse than nasty locks. Yuck! Keep being an inspiration.
I appreciate how you play with the same concept and change it over time. I've seen your original pipe cleaner tut, the modified one and this one and since I'm retwisting tonight and intend to do pipe cleaner curls, I'm going to try this out tonight. Thanks for sharing the idea!
@locsnatwist i've tried a few different rollers over the years and i've found that pipe cleaners give me the best results and are most comfortable to sleep in. it's all about finding what works best for you and your hair. glad you've had great results!
Thanks so much for the tip on the pipe cleaner curls! I'm loving it. I love the fact that it's like a 3-in-1!!!!! So I'm into week 3 and now the curls are falling a little more and I love it!

@GiaMoOnX glad you enjoyed it! if you're apprehensive about locs but want them, why not try kinky two strand twist extensions? they look very similar to locs and you can wear them for a few months to decide if you like the look. also, if you don't want to go through the short stage, you could always leave the extensions in and let your loc up with the extensions. it's a great option for people who don't feel confident with the short length.
@trinkim my curls last for 2+ weeks without any product :) everyone's hair is different, so I'm glad you adapted this style to work for you! feel free to post pics of your hair on the fanpage, i'd love to see your results!
@MrzDreadz personally, i don't like using styling products on my hair because they tend to leave build up, but i'm glad you found something that works for you!
@naturalwonder311 these curls will be great for a wedding! i wore the pipe cleaners over night, but as long as they're completely dry you should be fine. if you can't wear them overnight you can sit under a dryer cap. just make sure your hair is completely dry, otherwise the curls won't hold. you can wash your hair beforehand, or just use a spray bottle to dampen your hair beforehand.
I separated my hair into sections to set on pipe cleaners like this and it turned out great!! Thanks for the tip!!

i want to thank you for a great hair tip....i was first using the rod rollers and setting lotion and sit fo evea under the dryer...and now that my locks are longer they dont curl to my scalp nor last as long. now that im trying the pipe cleaner curl for the first time i luv the way its curling from my root. thanks to you i will no long fry under the dryer and no more harding of my sisterlocks due to the setting lotion....i'm luving this new do ;)

@afronique It has a piece of wire in it, so you aren't going to be able to replicate it unless you have a scarf with wire in it. That's how the flower works
Somehow I'd missed this variation of the pipe cleaner curls. After 7 years loc'd I've recently switched from primarily salon locs to DIY but my length can be a bit overwelming. I'll probably do this, this weekend.

@SeleahTV well it depends. i did these without any product and as you can see in my new video on my other channel, i still have a pretty decent curl. but using product makes them last a little longer. also, i don't tie my hair up at night and that also helps preserve the curls. i work out about 4 days a week and i just put my hair in a ponytail and wear a stretchy headband to help preserve my hairline. the curls do fall over time, but it's pretty to see them change.

I like the idea of sectioning into 1/4s. Tried yr original tut w/ amazing result :) can you do a tutorial on caring fir hair before and after coming out of a chlorinated pool PLEASE! Thanks!

i used a wrapping mouse before i curled my locs and it held the curl for much longer...(over a week) my curls will fall in a DAY if i don't use it. u might want to try that! keep making vids!
@betje87 aw thanks! i'm obsessed with this scarf. if i could i'd wear it every day. lol! i have a blow dryer cap that i occasionally use, but it's easier for me to just sleep with the pipecleaners in. we all just have to find what works best for us! glad you found a solution.

@chescaleigh cool... i need to see if i can get y pipe cleaner technique down.... i cant quite seem to make my locs to catch when i start wrapping them around. i love your results in the other vid as well... it gave you this awesome glow!!!!
@nianirulz thanks! the scarf has a piece of wire in it, which is how i'm able to bend and manipulate it. maybe i'll do a tutorial so you can make one of your own

@jladybeautiful a craft store is your best bet. you can check on yelp to see if there are any in brooklyn, but off the top of my head i don't know. but there's a michael's in manhattan for sure. last resort, purchase online
depending on how much you pay for your ponytail holders/how attached you are to them/how often you do the style, you could just cut them out to prevent from messing with the curls too much. or you could use rubber bands...hth
@spirited76 You can get pipe cleaners at like Walmart, a craft store, and I've seen then in the dollar store. I love this technique for curling my locs.

@papprolle well i'd suggest you try adapting some of these tutorials to work with your hair. you don't know what you're capable of unless you try!
Instead of using hair bands to make your ponytails for the pipe cleaners use ribbon. Or something where all you need to do is untie them instead of pulling the bands down the curls, that way you wouldn't disturb the curls.
@pooja6116 i've yet to swim in a chlorinated pool since loc'ing my hair. my recommendation would just be to do a thorough cleaning afterward.
@barbaydian261 thanks! i posted one on my blog a few weeks ago. i don't do anything special, i just use makeup remover wipes to clean my face at night and wear moisturizer and eye cream every day.

The other method i was talking about was intend unbend the top of the pipecleaner and push the hair up from the bottom
you take pipe cleaners out the same way you remove any roller. you just gently unwrap your hair to preserve the curls. not sure what other method you're talking about.

@JustbeinaDaphne yikes! i would never use a flat iron on my locs. and no, i don't use any creams, sprays or gels on my hair.

Ok... I was just about to try your original pipe cleaner technique when I saw this... how long did you leave the pipe cleaners in? I'm going to attempt this method for a wedding I have this Saturday! Thanks so much for sharing....your how to's are really getting me through these days!

@barbaydian261 well if you watch the original tutorial closely, what i do is wrap the end of my loc on the pipe cleaner and then wrap the rest of my loc on top of the end to secure it, and then wrap up the remainder of the pipe cleaner. (hope that makes sense) otherwise, your hair will slip right off the pipe cleaner. hope that clears things up :)

@barbaydian261 If you bend the tip of the pipe cleaner over the tip of your hair to secure it prior to rolling that will prevent slippage. Also I truggled when I tried doing it and my hair wasn't completely wet and limp... Hope this helps!

I've never ever tried the pipe cleaners style. On average how long does it last? I'd hate to spend alot of time doing this..only to have my workouts ruin it with the constant sweat :-/

Hey, a question to you...Do those pipe cleaners leave lint in the locs? Or maybe you cannot see the lint if they are the same colour as your locs?
So I know this has been told multiple times in the comments, but you look as beautiful without make as you do without. You could even rub cake frosting all over your face and you'd still be beautiful.
my pipe cleaning curls are still in after 2 weeks, i don't know if i will use the foam curlers that i ordered

What a cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute scarf!!! :D That looks soo tight though! I usually sit under a umm... blow dryer, I mean like what they have at the salons. I don't know the actual name xD um, yeah, cause I just can't sleep with them. You look so pretty, with and without make up! :)
