This is surely one of the freshest styles I've seen thus far (on par with the dread basket). It amazes me how much can be done with locs. I can't wait until my hair gets longer so I can try some of these styles (but I'll have to)

O M G ... I am lov'n this. I watched this on Thursday night. Friday picked up the pipe cleaners and Saturday night did the do ... I've gotten so many compliments. Some even thought I cut my locs. They weren't that bad to sleep in either. Thank you so much for sharing this inexpensive way to style my locs.

I absolutely loooooove this. I just ran into a sistah that had this style in her locs. As a loc wearer myself (4 yrs in)...I had not heard of this way to style locs. I fell in love. I'm so on it. And Chesaca...you are such striking woman...as a makeup artist I was so like.."her skin is fantastic, oh I love the shape of her eyes...I would love to do her face..." not that you need it, but artist always look at things like skin, eye shapes, lip shapes, etc...you'd make a great model! So needless to say I was a little bit scared about trying this myself. But I did and it turned out great. I have had my locs 7 yrs. I just purchased pipe cleaners yesterday, I have seen this style on many, but in the near future will try it on myself! Living it already....my hair is half way down my back.
Hey! I love this tutorial ma'am. I have been referring to it since 2010 when both my daughter and I had locs. I have since cut mine off (but my PC curls were flawless honey) and my 6yr old loves this style! I have conversed with several loc'ed ladies about the longevity of this style because if you wear the rods in (like as bantu knots) you can wear knots for a week, let the curls hang and fall into waves for the next 2 weeks. Minimum 3 weeks on this style. Super economical and stuff lol
Oh my goodness! This is so exciting. .this is my first time seeing this and now I'm on the j.o.b. to use pipe cleaners next curling. I currently use rod rollers and they can't be slept in no matter how I trick my mind. .I can't. .but pipe cleaners will be way easier to sleep in. .yay! Thanks
love. it. I dont have locks (yet), but I do have lenghthy, 4b hair that I generally wear in twists (twistouts, breadouts, etc). When I do curls I usually do bantu knots but I have always wanted to try pipecleaners. Even though bantu knots can have great curl pattern results, I find that it can be very tight on my roots and very uncomfortable to sleep on. This looks like a great alternative. good job

Wonderful video. I'm going to the store to get some pipe cleaners tomorrow to try this. I think the option of leaving the pipe cleaners in is a good option for maintaining my locs while I workout and sweat. I'd like to try some short pipe cleaners to do this on my toddler's locs too. That will be adorable!

chescalocs thank you for introducing me to another way of curling my hair, and the way you pull them out afterwards, small blisters are a minor price to pay.....my hair normally takes 4-5 hours to do from washing, retwisting and then sitting under the dryer as i have over 100 locs that i cut regularly as i find the length toooo much to handle - just past my shoulder blades is length enough ;-) Once again thank you XXXXX

I just did my hair today, I used setting lotion and water to dampen my hair before I did it. I still have the pipe cleaners in I will take them out tomorrow. I wish you would of had this vid posted before I did my hair earlier today. Great Video! Im hoping for the best when I take them out in the morning. I tried this for the first time for a show I had this weekend. I really like that I could go out in public with the pipe cleaners in my hair and most people couldn't even tell!! I also like that I could sleep COMFORTABLY with the pipe cleaners in my hair when I went to bed!! My hair is thick and takes a really long time to dry so when I took the pipe cleaners out some curls weren't completely dry...and I got caught in the rain before the show :-( but I will definitely do this again!! THANKS!!
@jmarks617 that's totally up to you. you just need to make sure your hair is completely dry before taking the pipecleaners down, otherwise the curls won't hold.

@nowrissa you unfold the end that was used to secure the pipe cleaner and then you just slide them out. you literally just pull the pipe cleaner out and your hair will stay curled. hope that helps!

@Tranquilbutterfly28 next time try just doing the curls on the bottom half of your locs. i did another video for this style called "loose pipe cleaner curls" where i put my hair into pigtails beforehand. it gives you a longer looser curl. and you could always pull them once you take them out to make them loose. glad you were able to give it a try! ps. i'm originally from south florida! so excited to go home for Christmas
I did 2 per locs on mine..I wore it on the pipecleaners for 2 weeks...then I unraveled them and had curls for almost 4 wks...I used the scalp cleanse to kep it clean and fresh.

@latrealhayden in my experience, dry locs won't hold a shape. if you don't want to completely wet your hair, you can dampen it using a spray bottle. that way, you can dampen the locs without losing the tightness in your roots. also, i recommend retwisting your roots (the way i did in this video) after you wash/wet your hair and put in the pipe cleaners.

I have put up to 3 on it and it didn't compromise the end result. using several locs helps the initial curls to stay springy longer in my experience.

@nowrissa you unfold the end that was used to secure the pipe cleaner and then you just slide them out. you literally just pull the pipe cleaner out and your hair will stay curled. hope that helps!

@Tranquilbutterfly28 next time try just doing the curls on the bottom half of your locs. i did another video for this style called "loose pipe cleaner curls" where i put my hair into pigtails beforehand. it gives you a longer looser curl. and you could always pull them once you take them out to make them loose. glad you were able to give it a try! ps. i'm originally from south florida! so excited to go home for Christmas
I did 2 per locs on mine..I wore it on the pipecleaners for 2 weeks...then I unraveled them and had curls for almost 4 wks...I used the scalp cleanse to kep it clean and fresh.

@latrealhayden in my experience, dry locs won't hold a shape. if you don't want to completely wet your hair, you can dampen it using a spray bottle. that way, you can dampen the locs without losing the tightness in your roots. also, i recommend retwisting your roots (the way i did in this video) after you wash/wet your hair and put in the pipe cleaners.
