I followed your guidance but have NOT taken the knots down because they came out too cute! My locs are almost as long as yours and after I did them, it turned out to look like a short, layered style that is awesome, Thanks so much for your post, this ended up being a 2 for 1 hairdo, I've worn the knots going on 2 days now lol You're AWESOME!!!
i just recently started my locs a week ago and i was looking for someone who can guide me through my journey and u are the perfect person.. u are very bubbly and U reassure Me that I CAN DO THIS
Hey Chescalocs, I've been following you for years and I was honored to be a locstar! :) I agree about not twisting your roots on a regular. I used to twist every two weeks. It's been years since doing this. Now I twist maybe 3-4x/year. I find that my roots have grown so much! I do use a mixture of oils for my hair and that is it. My locs have reached my behind (whoohoo!) and I LOVE it, Keep up the great work. I love all that you do, you are an inspiration!! Happy 2015
I just did my lock knots while I twisted my freshly washed hair. My locks go past my collarbone, yet it took an hour and a half to twist and knot. Chesca , thank you so much for sharing all your how-tos. I am so excited to take out the knots and rock my stuff
This way of loc knot with 1 loc looks very good or maybe better. I am so happy about the option of produce or no produce it goes very well with my budget. The many looks you get at each stage when the curl relaxes is just what I'm looking during the 2 weeks. Beautiful!!
Thanks so much for sharing, I'm getting ready to do loc knots for the 2nd time on Monday. I still have lots curls from you 1st video (lasting over 5 weeks). Now I'm going for the single loc knots you just Demo'd. I love that this method appears to be very gentle on my locs than other methods for curling locs, no products, and no stressing the locs with tools/equipment. Your locs look beautiful as usual !!
tried this style as soon as i saw it on fb. loved it! i did end up allowing the folded part to twist onto itself and I didn't really care for that; you end up with the wavy curl pattern for top half of the loc and the curly fries at the bottom. I'll try it untwisted next time. I just wanted to mention that I use a hair net with a scarf over it to maintain the curls overnight. thanks for another great loc style!
I used to use the same method (single loc knot) with locs above shoulder length. THAT ROCKED! I'm looking for slightly looser curls and I want somethgin I can wear in the world for a meetign tomorrow... You've inspired me to try this with four locs...wish me luck!
I love this. I do not have locs but I love this style. About three years ago, I had starter locs but I took them out. I like how you do versatile styles with your locs. You make these styles look so easy.
I want to thank you so much for your videos it has given my mom and me so many options for her locs. Her hair is just as long as yours and she is always complaining about it just hanging on her head doing nothing so you are such a help. We will be trying the loc knots as well and will keep you posted on the results. Also, I just love your energy in your videos!!!!!!!
i've tried so many different methods to curl my hair including pipe cleaners and perm rods, and i found the loc knots to be the most comfortable. after i wash my hair, i towel dry it so it's damp as opposed to sopping wet. as i explained in the video, you shouldn't remove the knots until your hair is completely dry, otherwise the curls will not hold. so depending on my schedule i either leave the knots in for a few 2 or 3 days or i sit under the dryer to make sure they're completely dry
I think I'll need a little help with this because it'd take me forever to do it myself but I'm so ready to try it (once my locks are retwisted, because they're one big mess now)! You are so beautiful!
sure! you can also use perm rods to get tight spiral curls. it's really just a matter of personal preference. for me, i prefer loc knots because they're more comfortable to sleep on that pipe cleaners. the pipe cleaners have wire in them and at times it can poke you. your hair can also get caught on the wire which can hurt. i also like loc knots because you can wear them out. i know some people wear the pipe cleaners out, but i never did because they weren't comfortable. hope that helps!
@chescalocs thanks! I think it's really cool that you (and the ladies you shouted out) have figured out a way to use your own hair as the rod. My locks are about your length, but about twice as wide, esp in the back. They take up a bunch of space on the rod/pipecleaner, and dont fit because of their length and girth. I may have to try and search for a longer rod, or something else to use, because I prefer it uniform. We'll see what I come up with!
that's really up to you. if you blow dry your hair you need to make sure your hair is completely dry. if it's damp the curls will fall really quickly if not immediately. i like to leave them in for a few days just to wear them short and also to make sure my hair is completely dry. the blow dryer never seems to get my hair totally dry
okay that's it. I'm getting locs now. I was always going to get them but you've inspired me to take the plunge and get beautiful locs. Thank you Chesca! ^_^
I don't even have locs (yet) and Im addicted to watching u. Not sure if its because how beautiful u are, how captivating you are, or how informative ur vids are. guess its all 3. Kepp it up!
Hey Ches, if your hair has a little curls in i how do you get them to straighten back out? I recently got my hair re-twisted and now my hair is flipping forward and to the side and some of the locs have bends in them. I don't like this look and I'd like them to remain straight. Any advice? -Bruce
I so want to know how to thicken my locs. My locs are coming up on 8 years old, I love them, they have made my life easier and I feel more myself and attractive with them. I've had every hair style black women can have and locs have been the best for me. But I have thinner locs and yours are so thick and long, I wish mine to thicken, any suggestions? what shampoo and conditioner do you use? Thanks.
wrapped up my hair likre this and everybody at work and church thought i cut it. haha. i got called shirley temple a lot as well. everyone thought it was cute though. i just took it down yesterday and i'm really liking the result. i'm glad you did this because my hair is just a bit longer than yours and bantu knots are not gonna work anymore. this just what i needed thanks :)
love the tutorials!!! this is my second time trying the pipe cleaners and i've gotten so many compliments thanks to you! everybody thinks i went to my loctitian.
Yay! Love the curls! I love how the styles you can do on locs can give you short, medium or long hair [without having to add anyone else's hair - lol!] Fabulousity!
yes, you have to remove the band in order to unwrap your locs. i wear the loc knots for about 2-3 days. they don't unravel if you use a rubber band to secure them.
Awesome! Thanks sooooo much! I've been growing my locs for 5 years tomorrow (which also is my birthday) Haven't really been wearing many styles, but thanks to you I'll be attempting to try to style my own hair to give my pocketbook a break.....LOL! Blessings sista!
@chescaleigh i just did the tutorial last night...absolutely loved the results! i did sit under the dryer this morning since i really wanted it curly for tomorrow. :) thanks for the tutorial...no more rollers!
You're beautiful, and your hair is beautiful. I've never really wanted dreadlocks, but you make me consider it lol. Especially your up-do styles--gorgeousss!
Gah your hair is GORGEOUS! I don't have locs but you're making me consider them just so I can rock this style! Have you considered styling your hair like this for your wedding day? I think this style would be so beautiful and elegant on your wedding day! (Which is kind of a moot point because you will look absolutely AMAZING no matter what you do!)
@Aishaoaktree1122 is it completely loose? or are you just having trouble with the roots? maybe you should change the method you use for those locs? interlocking might be an option if you find that twisting isn't working. the thing is, retwisting your hair doesn't mean your locs are going to stay "perfect" between re-twists. they're going to unravel in between.
Girl! why did I bumped into this video today?! I started around 9 a.m. and just finished around 12noon my hair length is to my lower back. How long did it take you? I like the style and I think am going to keep it in for a while. Love it, appreciate your tutorials.
Watching this video made me realize that I'm slowly but surely starting to get loc-minded. I like my loose hair a lot, but I think one day I might start locs since I've been interested for about a month, now. Are locs high maintenance?
I did the single loc knots today. It took forever since my locs are to my behind and I have a lot of them lol...I can't wait to see the finished look. I want to leave them in for a day or two. How do I make it cute because my husband is seriously not liking the knots.
@kendaboo77 you take the rubber band off and then unravel the loc the same way you'd unravel it if you were using a roller. it's kind of like rapping the loc but backwards. hope that makes sense. i think the end result is very similar to the pipe cleaners, the main difference is not needing a tool which makes them a lot easier to sleep in and more wearable. the pipe cleaners can be kind of uncomfortable because of the wire. hope that helps!
Okay so after watching you do this I guess my only question I have is when you curl it like you did is the whole lock curled or just the part that was wrapped around itself?
@maaaaanlisten as you can see in the video, the top quarter of the loc has a slight wave to it. the fact that the bottom of the loc is curly doesn't look strange or take away from the style. but if you're looking for a uniform curl from root to tip you can try pipe cleaners or rods
I found your video by chance and I am glad I did. I have an 8inch natural locs I am thinking of extending with extensions. Will in be able to curl it too?
I've been natural for roughly a year, maybe a year and a half, and, to be honest, I'm a bit lazy with my hair. I've been thinking about locking my hair for the last couple months, because locs are beautiful, and while they still require maintenance, it seems to be overall less than my current regimen, and the hairstyles have the capability to last longer, and just, the more I watch your videos, the more I'm really thinking I can have locs and still have cute hair, so I think you're definitely making a convert of me.
When your hair dries, do you just remove the rubber band and go or are you doing something else to the lock knot? Also, how is the end result different from pipe cleaner method, if any? Thanks! You have inspired me a lot b/c I was getting bored with my hair.
Hello! You're funny and beautiful and you've just gained a new fan! I don't have dreads at the moment, have been relaxing my hair for years and have been seriously considering dreads...I'm sure you've been asked this a million times before but how long did it take to grow them out to this length?
thanks for this vid! i tried this style and it looked super good! im in korea so everyone was freaking out about me having a new hairstyle (they thought i cut my hair cuz the curls made it shorter LOL)... i plan on doing it again soon so hopefully i can post a video response! thanks again!
@PartyyNerd depending on how well you take care of them (ie wrapping at night) they can last up to 2 weeks! i included a photo of how my hair looked 2 weeks after and the curls fell a lot but my hair was still pretty curly.
hey. ur vids are always great. quick question. how did u get ur curls to start so close to the roots. is it the wetness of the locs or something? thanks alot.
@msland05 i think sisterlocs are too thin for this technique. plus, it would take foreeeever to wrap each one individually. my suggestion would be to curl a small group of them at a time using perm rods or regular rollers.
Hey Fran, can you do this with braids that are two strand twist? And just gotta say your awesome. Seeing your lovely locks makes me miss my locks that I had to take out last year because of being in the Navy. Sigh
@UntamedAwesome yes, but it's not really as noticeable as i'd assumed. I think because I did the loc knots and also because i've trained my hair to grow in fairly neatly
How long do you wear the knots before revealing the curls? Is it completely impossible to have successful curls after a dryer sitting plus overnight wear? *fingers crossed!*
Hey franchesca I'm going to try to do these tonight! I nly have 100 locs so I don't think it wil take me too long. However, how long should I leave them in because I wanted to wear them out next week. The vid responses make it look like you should leave them in for at least a week.
Okay,thank you.You're awesome! and I'm only 12 years old and I LOVE! Doing hair.Thank you Chesca!😊
I followed your guidance but have NOT taken the knots down because they came out too cute! 2024 and I’m here to learn!! I looooove this!!! 🥰🔥

This style is way too cute. Your locs are such an inspiration. I just started my third loc journey about two weeks ago.

the locs are beautiful and an inspiration but what intrigues me most is that beautiful smile. Absolutely beautiful.
I love this. I do not have locs but I love this style. About three years ago, I had starter locs but I took them out. I like how you do versatile styles with your locs. You make these styles look so easy.
Look at you being a blessing 11 years later!☺️😁gonna do this today! Im only 2.5 years in, but i am so inspired! Thank you!!

I use to have dreadlocks when I was a kid and watching your videos is making me want them again.
I did this one loc....it turned out BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks!!

using this for a wedding this coming weekend. CAN"T wait.
always luv ya Chesca
I love the single knot look over the double. So much prettier and the curls are so defined! :)
I think I'll need a little help with this because it'd take me forever to do it myself but I'm so ready to try it (once my locks are retwisted, because they're one big mess now)!

Oooh I must try this...although I have 187 locs on my head and it may take forever, but too awesome not to try! Thanks for the idea!
I love this look, haven't even taken mine down yet because I so like the look of the knots.
i love your personality! I am totallyyyy subscribing because you're camera character is AWESOME!
I just love how some of your tips are blonde, it looks so good on you.
okay that's it. I'm getting locs now. I was always going to get them but you've inspired me to take the plunge and get beautiful locs. Thank you Chesca! ^_^

Getting locs in a week.. Ugh! I can't wait.:) seeing your videos inspire me so much and give me strength to go all the way.. :)
Gonna try this the next time! My locs are thinner, so I might do four at a time. Thanks for this - your hair is amazing!
I so want to know how to thicken my locs. My locs are coming up on 8 years old, I love them, they have made my life easier and I feel more myself and attractive with them. You hair looks so adorable!!! Have you decided how you are going to wear your hair for your wedding day?
I just want to hug you! Your so gorgeous!
It gives tighter curls with one. I like it. I will try it at the root to see how much more volume I get. Thank you.
How long did you keep your loc knots in? They're beautiful! I'm going to try these loc knots
I found your video by chance and I am glad I did. I have an 8inch natural locs I am thinking of extending with extensions. Will in be able to curl it too?

gorgeous! when i think about cutting my dreads....i look at these curly vids....i want my hair 2 get long so i cud get this look when i do curls!!!
looks so amazing! makes me wish i had locs so i could wear this look! exquisite!
That's beautiful I love love love it!!!!!! I'm gonna try this when my locs get longer
@msland05 i think sisterlocs are too thin for this technique. plus, it would take foreeeever to wrap each one individually. my suggestion would be to curl a small group of them at a time using perm rods or regular rollers.
this is absolutely beautiful!!
Thank You!!!! Sooooo Much I am 11yo Casey and i have two strands and im going to try and do this in my spare time
I can't wait to try this. I have been wondering how to curl my locs!!!
wow you are sooo beautiful...I really want to grow my locs back after watching your videos
Your hair is gorgeous!!!!
Such a beautiful look!
Hi Chesca! How long this procedure took you? How many hours? By the way, you look beautiful with your curly curl hair :-)
I love the results. Def gonna try this!
I LOVE this look! Your locs are awesome!
@DCfan4life washing them is the only way i know of getting them completely straight again. curls/waves tend to last a long time
when u just lock your hair... did you continue to use the locking pin or you just palm roll it or both?
How long do you wear the knots before revealing the curls? Is it completely impossible to have successful curls after a dryer sitting plus overnight wear? *fingers crossed!*
Hey franchesca I'm going to try to do these tonight! I nly have 100 locs so I don't think it wil take me too long. However, how long should I leave them in because I wanted to wear them out next week. The vid responses make it look like you should leave them in for at least a week.
I have to try this out next week when I wash my hair, thank you!
OMG! I love this! I'm trying it TODAY!
How long do you keep the knots in before you take them out to get the best results for the curls?
@chescalocs Yes, i hear a lot of people say the same thing..but ur locs are beautiful.
