I missed the wonderful detailed approach of the presenter. Bring this man back!
In my opinion the Amel line of boats are the best in the world. Not only are their boats solid, beautiful, and well thought out, but the story of the company tops it off. The man who started the company, Henri Amel, did so at age 50 if I remember correctly, and he worked until he passed away at age 92...and he was practically blind since being injured during wwii. What a man, what a story! Between the incredible boats they produce, the story of Henri Amel, and the fact that he gave a reported 90% of his company ownership to his employees upon his death makes Amel boats, in my opinion, the best boats in the world.
I keep coming back to these videos and this reviewer, best boat reviews on UA-cam.
Nobody does a better boat review than Chris Beeson! All others on UA-cam doing boat reviews can learn a lot here.
He makes me want to buy all the boats.

@@edplow5917 Have you ever been to a marina? That is what it sounds like: wind in the standing rigging. Nevertheless, we can still clearly hear what he is saying. Plus, this guy delivers all the relevant information in the shortest amount of time, almost as if he designed the boat himself. Quite unlike 90% of the competition, who seem to have never sailed a yacht and/or they don't understand the difference between form and function.
He really is quite extensive. and concise.

I've always had a thing for Amel vessels.....and this was well presented by Chris Beeson whom is a master at presentation. Wish these ships were less expensive....$895,000 (2013 Base Price) is a bit above my means.

Very professionally done review.
Having the sink near the center line is pretty smart. Most Yachts put it on the side so it doesn't drain properly while healed on long passages.

We in the same boat. SV Delos is a big influence and I have researched a lot of boats over the months and AMEL is one of the best in safety and comfort I think.

"notice these lil leather fillets so it doesn't slam shut. It fits very nicely and doesn't squeek." Followed by him closing it, stepping on it and hearing it squeek lol. As well as hearing it squeek even prior to him opening it. It is very well designed boat though.

Here is my problem. I recently started watching videos from Brian SV Velos. Its about a group of guys and gals who sail around the Pacific having a blast. Guess what kind of boat they have? You guessed it Amel Maramu 55 +/-. Now I am hooked and no other boat appeals to me. But my bigger mistake was showing that boat to my wife. She thinks that that is what a sailboat should be like. Sorry Joshua Slocum, but Chantiers is way ahead of the pack with that boat and I am in love.

Me too! I love the Delos blog. I've watched nearly all their videos in the past couple of weeks. These boats a very spendy if you buy brand new..
Brian's boat is actually an Amel 53 Super Maramu built in 2000 which would have been a very early version Super Maramu. I know another guy who is sailing a 1987 Amel 46 Maramu hardtop and the improvements and upgrades are very noticeable in the Super Maramu. Even more was added on the Amel 54 version including the stay sail rigging, more cabin bells and whistles, etc.. The Amel 55 added further features and improvements, especially to the hardtop cockpit.
If you really want to drool over a boat have a look at the Amel 64!! It enters the world of Super Yachts imo... and is also in that price range! :)
PS... Brian SV Delos is so popular now that I've suggested to Brian that perhaps he ought to approach Amel about some kind of sponsorship since he's drawn so much attention to these beautiful blue water sailing yachts. :)
ianBeer123 Thats why I'm viewing this video, its because of SV Delos and crew. I retire in 6 years and I'm buying ( as of now at least ) an Amel or a Kanter , a previously owned vessel or sale the house in order to get a new one.

Unreal, I too was brought here after being introduced to the Amel line via the S/V Delos youtube video series. I think theirs is a 53 Super Amel. Like this one, very well designed with redundancy a primary trait.
Same here for SV Delos. Yes the crew have indeed ( perhaps cleverly so ) marketed the boat obo the manufacturer, so yes Amel ought to sponsor if they haven't done so already. Right that's my plug for the Delos crew! Saw an interview with John Kretschmer who stated that boat design and which part of the world one sails determine the kind of yacht one would purchase. So effectively there's no "best"for every sea and ocean. My intent is not to denigrate any manufacturer's product , here to learn. In Kretschmer's book " Sailing a Serious Ocean: Sailboats, Storms, Stories and Lessons Learned from 30 Years at Sea " ( no plug intended ), there is a top positive review October 6, 2014 one should read. 1. Where is the rudder located on the Amel? 2. If I wish to fully enjoy the sun, breeze and spray say island-hopping in the Caribbean, can the spray hood windscreens be removed? And yes please confirm if they are acrylic or polycarbonate. 3. Aren't there any boats, where the salon table shaft can be slid into the hull if not used so that there is more room when not used of if there is rough weather? 4. How high is the water line? 5. Hold on...great access to the helm's electricals but where do you store food items?

All I see Brian do on SV Delos is fix and replace things that have broken on his Amel 53. Of course with power-everything there's alot to go wrong.
+ushoys i once thought that too but that boat is 16 years old and has seen more miles than any other i have seen on youtube, most are 2/3 people who cruise to nearby islands and park, they use theirs as it was meant to be, world wide cruising in very rough conditions (heat corrosion, water and wind) so once that is figured in it doesnt seem so bad i suppose, my home needs constant attention, even the first year of its being built :)
Yes, and Delos is on it's second circumnavigation. Previous owner before Brian did it too.
The sea is stressful and things wear. Maintenence is a fact of life for boating.
Amel should just give the Delos crew an whole new boat for 2016 so that everyone can watch and enjoy.
There is nothing wrong with the one they have. It's very nearly as big as this but faster. They've sailed over 80 thousand miles and will probably sail another 80,000 at least.
And they have enough money to buy at lest three new boats buy now , have a look at how much they get from just one you tub video , you will be amazed, not counting all the other money they get.

Good informative video, would have thought a wind sock would be part of the camera gear?
That cockpit is great for cold northern weather. But for being out in the Caribbean or more tropical climates in general, I can imagine the cockpit being a bit of a blunder. Not only heat, but also because sailing stops being fun at that point when everything is automated and enclosed. Incredible ship though.
Look at the Kanter , most of them have dual helms , one in like this one and one aft.
yes except alot of builder's now are offering the single helm because they're deeper and safer in rough seas
An excellent look at this great boat, however as an Amel owner, I am disappointed that there was no look at the spacious engine room compartment which allows easy access to all the machinery for maintenance.
What I liked aboat this boat was the cockpit was nice. 'And the guy talking boat the boat was good.
I better start saving before I´m too old and grumpy.
Delos is an Amel Super Marnau 53 (not a 54). We have the same boat. We are about ready to set sail for about 10 years.

donjvalley If you need 3 of these for 3 different islands, I'm not sure you've grasped the concept of blue ocean cruisers? ;)
Rohan Pritchard There is plenty of distance between the three locations --- with 30,000 islands in the SE Asia/Pacific area, alone. That allows time for routine maintenance and there are also climate advantages, as in 'endless summer' to living/sailing about 4-months in each location, etc...Besides, I'll miss my golf, tennis and grandkids if I'm always sailing/cruising. To each his own, just have fun in the sun, regardless of boat size...
donjvalley Cheers... If me I would just buy one for Australia as much more cruising grounds and the boat would be put to good use :) Other areas I would save the money and buy a less expensive production boat! Like you said, to each his own :)
mike carey Australia is very beautiful, for sure!!! As long as I'm "wishing", I might as well take it to the 'extreme'... I certainly don't have the 'youth or experience' like the Delos crew; especially Brady and Josje, to get jobs on 115ft or a Swan 100 boat, so I have to imagine something else...Cheers...

It would be good to know how tall the host is, which would help viewers determine ceiling heights in these boats he displays. Being a tall man I would very much need to know this info when thinking about purchasing a boat.

The Amel is great, but this guy is better. There were moments where I wasn't even paying attention to exactly what he was saying but rather enjoying watching him.
Great, comprehensive review! Exactly the kind of boat I'd want for crossing the Atlantic.
Been watching a lot of walk throughs and reviews and this is simply streets ahead of the others... still room for more detail and sad really that its a model shown that is experiencing massive change... would of liked to see engine room and freezer... Also the thinking around just a washing machine on the 55 and not the double washer and dryer of the 54... Feel the forward double cabin will suit some and not others... think the 54 is better set out in the forward... Also a help would be how these holding tanks and keel grey water storage are used/emptied... will look to see if you have done a more recent 55 review... But thank you... whilst I raise points... I do feel still... its a great review!
