Hello! This is exactly what I was looking for! I have Marley, a 4 year old spayed vizsla. She is dealing with incontinence for a while now. I always liked natural remedies for myself and now I will try to help her with your tips. We tried adding parsley to her food and it seemed to work for a while but I think we need something else. I had a large, black Lab, like Lewis. He lived healthily 'til he was 13. But around 5 years old he started having bladder problems. Cranberry worked, but he had to take it EVERY day for it to be effective. THANK YOU for these solutions! Dr. Andrew, I just adopted a Lhasa Opso Poodle mix a few weeks ago, but I think she might have incontinence. However, it only seems to happen on her own bed, or when she's very excited. She has been spayed but there's no record of when that happened. The shelter estimated her age to be 3-4 years. Is there anything I should monitor before I take her to the vet? When she rests on the floor next to me she doesn't have an accident, only on her bed.

Hi! I really like your videos, they are truly informative. I have a cat, her name is Lazuli and is almost 14 years old. CKD around Stage 3 numbers, had a bad UTI for about three months until we managed to get rid of it. She has been good moodwise and in appetite, but unfortunately during antibiotic treatment she started presenting incontinence issues. She also has arthritis, specially in her back legs.
The incontinence often shows up while she is sleeping. She relaxes the muscles and will start peeing. Also, I have noticed that she does not really like to enter to the litter box unless it is to poo. I have two boxes, and two cats (Lazuli and her son, both Siamese) both boxes are more or less high, I'm trying to get an appropiate one for her age and condition. Could jumping in and out of the box be bothering her?
For this kind of incontinence, is there any supplement that can be given?

Hello! Thanks for the informative video. I’m wondering if a low fat diet, due to pancreatic flare ups, may have any correlation with decreased estrogen levels.
Possibly- many of the plant estrogens are in fat ( ie olive oil)

I am so glad I came across this video. Is there a difference in using flax seed oil capsules vs. ground flax seed? I'm not so sure my nearly 15 y/o pup will eat the ground flax seed. Love your channel my friend...so much wonderful, valuable info! one question: i have a male dog with this problem...checked with the vet for infections and other things..all came back negative..dog is 9 year old Scotty in great health, does not show any other symptoms except he can't seem to control his bladder. his underside is always moist and he tracks around the house the drippings ...like i said, he's still in great spirits, eats well drinks normal amounts of water, has plenty of energy to play and take long walks, no apparent pain...but when he does pee, it comes out a bit slow....any thoughts? does that estrogen work for males? thanks again!
Good question, far less common in male dogs. In practice we used phenylpropanolamine, strengthen the urethral sphincter, which controls urine flow. A natural remedy is horsetail

I had a lively husky, German Shepherd cross. For the 1st 4 years she just stayed outside all the time. Then I heard of mineral concentrate for women and thought I would try it on my little gurl. It worked except when I forgot to give it to her. She was then able to go on our vacations with us. I will know what to use if it ever happens to me or any member of my family.

Thanks again and for addressing incontinence linked to back issues. I too am wondering about gradually increasing flaxseed to dosage recommended. Also, can plant estrogens have side effects like estrogen treatments for females and if yes, what would they be? Pooch had a partial spay so don't want to add more estrogen/complications if it's less an estrogen issue and more back issue.

Tracey Lawrance I'm having the same problem, I hope your pup is well, either at peace or healthy! I hope he made a video, I'll have to search his channel specifically (didn't have much luck on UA-cam search in general), though the thing that's helped most is giving her some canned food (and cottage cheese she LOVES, and I cook eggs for her, and I try and scrabble some kibble in with it... I think my senior gal mainly just gets bored by what I offer her really easily so I try and make it as interesting and exciting as possible, and try to give her as many little snacks throughout the day... It's tricky cause my senior thinks awhile before she takes food from me and then just drops it from her mouth sometimes, and I've got three beagles, two of which I am trying to get them to lose some weight, and the other one definately doesn't need to gain any weight... I joke that she's also part cat though, haha, she's a lot less nose crazed than her other beagle siblings lol... So it just gets tricky to try and get my one senior girl to eat more, and try and not let my beagles eat more calories than they need, and they are really quick food snatchers lol!)
I've also heard that if a dog really isn't interested in eating, that sometimes offering (a very small amount of) wet cat food can entice them to eat... It will give them the runs like crazy though if that's all they have or if they eat a bunch at once (I think because cat food has much more protein than dogs need? My beagles, at least back when it was just my 2 beagles and I, loved sneaking and stealing my old housemate's cats' food, and good golly did that clean out their little bellies, in not a good way, haha... So if you, or anyone, decides to offer some cat food, at least do a Google search on the best way to do so so they don't get upset tummy... I don't recall the specific instructions that I've come across, though I would at least mix in some white rice if you don't see better advice)
Sorry if I'm not sharing anything helpful, and maybe your pooch eats plenty and just isn't gaining weight for some reason? So if that's the case, I clearly don't know, though I would get it checked by a vet in case there's something further going on!

My big mutt 10 years old. He is active still eating ok swimming ..he is neutered. Vet said there is some kind of calcification ,tumor, something in his prostate. He was having trouble emptying his bladder. He is on Amoxicilin w clav. Prednisone 20mg 2x day and prosacin once a day. He dribbles all the time , he is peeing a little a few squirts. Wondering what else I can do. I am also giving him Saw Palmetto Dr whitakers prostate capsules and prebiotic

My 5 yo Pom, Tasha (a rescue from Russia), has been leaking spots of urine for the 2 years she's been with me. I thought it was just daytime (when she was excited) but now see spots on the bed linen and sometimes on my lap. I've given her a cranberry bladder health formula which I thought was working but not so much, recently. Hoping the flax will work; always prefer holistic whenever possible. Thanks!!

@@jacobvargas6367 I may have given her too much but she got diarrhea from it. Started her on Incurin which is working for her.... 2 tabs, 1 tab, 1/2 tab, and down to 1/2 tab 6 days/week. May lower dose again in the future.

Hey Sophia, I am having the same problem with my dog, she is 4 years old. Since I changed her feeding from kibble to homemade food she is showing incontinence, maybe it is that I am not giving her the proper amounts of each thing? I was wondering if you were able to find a satisfactory answer as I am worried about the same thing; taking her to the vet and having all kinds of tests and medications done that may not be the most appropriate. Could anyone else provide some insight on what to do in this specific case? I would not want to put her back on kibble under any circumstances, perhaps a raw diet would be more beneficial?

Hi Dr Andrew, I have a 15 yr old shih tzu. He's doing very well, although he does have a heart murmur. He is on three medications for that. Enalapril, Lasix, and Vetmedin. Recently he has been spotting in his urine, tiny blood spots. I'm hoping he's not having anything too serious, I will take him to vet soon but I have to wait until I get paid again in a few weeks. Any suggestions?
Possible prostate/bladder infection. Additional fluid, honey at 1/2 teaspoon twice daily, and consider dandelion tincture
Regular honey? He's doing well so far, he's urinating without foul smell and clear, no spotting but still want to make sure he's ok
Dr Jones my 13 years old chihuahua has severe heart disease and pulmonary hypertension. One of the three medication is the diuretic pill furosemide. It’s make her drinking and pee to keep fluid low in lung. Do you know a remedy which can be furosemide replaced? The medication killing the dog muscle because all vitamins and potassium is flashing out.
Hi Anna- dandelion leaf tincture is the best natural alternative at doses of 1/4ml/10lbs once-twice daily. Discuss with your vet, but it worked well for my last dog Jesse
I tried everything nothing worked except a quarter tsp Sudafed powder twice a day in her food for my spayed ten yr old doberman.

Hi Dr. Andrew, My dog has this symptom once in 5 - 6 months, she pees on the bed for almost 10 to 15 days post that she stops. I will try with flax seeds. Vet had advised Diethyl Stilbestrol but its not available in India.
My dog is drinking alot of water, then she pees when she lays down. She is peeing everywhere and she doesnt even know it. It keeps leaking :( the last three days. It's a possobikty that she got leptospirosis from drinking contaminated water which is causing kidney failure. When we went camping she drank so much water from the lake :(
My 3 yr old staffy has developed what they believe to be estrogen responsive incontinence as her urinalysis and blood work has come back fine. They prescribed her Proin, but I am reading alot of scary side effects and pet parents who believe Proin contributed to the downfall of their beloved furbabies. I have only given my girl 2 doses but I am leaning towards stopping all together and trying one or multiple of these home remedies. Would you suggest them in conjunction or just one or the other? Shes just began having the incontinence issue so im hoping I can help her naturally as I prefer to stay away from medications.
Or would it be better to half her dose of proin while starting natural remedies and give the natural remedies time to build up in her system and then take her off the proin? Idk what to do but if possible id rather go natural. What do you think?
Have you heard of symplex- F and vasculin? I just read an article about the possibility of them helping urinary incontinence in dogs and hoping for your inout on these products if youve heard of them…. Sorry for the long comments, I hold your veterinary opinion to high regards as I throughly love your content and what you stand for and I trust your opinion fully.

They took him in 450$ later they xray ag as in and didnt find anything. 2nd hospital. But they did massage the bladder and he was able to pee and poop. The next day cant go again. They all have known he has a knot in his bladder the size of a golf ball still they say nothing about it. They did refer him to urologist but owner cant afford that. But he cant poop other. He currently is on antibotics because he had exploratory surgury in stomach which they found nothing . 3k$.
Still he couldnt pee fully, only drips. His penis swelled from the strain. But cant poop either. He has probotics that dont work helping him poop. He has no appetite with these side effects. Now it's up to GOD. BECAUSE what's impossible with man is possible with GOD.

Coincidentally she has also lost interest in eating for the past week? Any suggestions as to what could be going on? I had her to the vets. He said she seems in good health (that was prior to today and the peeing). He put her on metronidazole 250mg tablets... 2 every 12hrs. Could the medication cause her to not control her pee? ☹️😞
I would get her checked for pyometra.

My 9 pound yorkie is suffering from urinary incontinence and she’s on Chinese natural medicine called Suo Quan Wan for her kidneys. She was also prescribed royal canine-renal support but I’ve also given her natural food so I’m giving her blue buffalo-renal support. I don’t see an improvement, she’s still leaking, she’s wearing diapers all day and night and I don’t really want her life to continue like this. She’s 9 years old, would the flaxseed work? What would be the dosage for her? And is there anything else I could give her? :(
Hi, The flax may help. Have you had blood tests to check for anything more serious than just hormonal incontinence?
Try GMO free tofu from a health food store. A one inch cube three times a day provides the lacking estrogen
The blood work showed the problem with her kidneys and that’s it. We were told she also had high blood pressure
