As a retired Anesthesiologist having been involved in over 60,000 anesthetics, and personally administered over 30,000 myself, I found that the marijuana patients split into two categories. Some have an increased effect from normal anesthetic dosages, and our drugs doses have to be decreased. And some show significant resistance to our drugs and require much higher doses. Since most patients lie about their actual daily usage, I found it impossible to predict who would be in which group. From my perspective, I just give the drugs incrementally until I obtained the desired effect. It's not rocket science, it's art.
Alot of us daily cannabis users have sensory processing issues that present sub clinically and we are self medicating to deal with that. And people with sensory issues are known to have these types of reactions to pain medicine. My dad for example requires 5xs the normal dose of novacaine but he's extremely sensitive to full anesthesia. Also he's not a cannabis user just the sensory stuff that's undiagnosed cuz we don't smack our faces, scream or go non verbal etc
"Titrate to effect" I spent a long time as a street paramedic. I always used to chant that to my students. Haha. Its so easy and straight forward. I hope you are enjoying retirement Doc. 🎉
Can I ask you an unrelated question? I am addicted to a chemical called Phenibut HCL. I am in the long process of weening (it's very dangerous to go too fast) and have been consistent, but I'm still taking it. Phenibut a acts on GABA in much the same way Gabapentin does. I was offered a shoulder surgery for a shoulder that chronically dislocates, but I'm very nervous about the safety of anesthesia with it. What's your unofficial opinion?
@@innapinch7112 I'm happy to help. All our anesthetic drugs are very short acting. There is no prolonged effect from them greater than 24 hours. Most of my patients had nothing significant in their system, except for pain killers, by the time the surgery was over. Just take your normal dose of Pnenibut and we will compensate for any intraop effects. We can manage any unforeseen physiologic changes. Be sure to ask for a shoulder block. It will make your recovery so much easier, and you will need very little narcotic pain killers. As for risk, in the 35 years I practiced, I had no deaths, strokes, or heart attacks in my patients. I'm not bragging, I just saying that modern anesthetics are extremely safe. My experience is more the norm than the exception. I've had that surgery myself. It is well worth it to go through the procedure.
I’ve been a nurse for over 30+ yrs and I wonder if you know how rare you are. I pray when I give in and have my knee replaced, that I have an anesthesiologist as knowledgeable and compassionate as you!🙂
All nurses have to get their knees replaced. I go to church with a 30 year former nurse and she ran away from the surgeon for years. She now has new knees and new hips. She's thrilled to pieces and looks like she's had a facelift, which she has not had. She's just not in agony anymore.
yeah, he’s really cool. He actually reminds me of the ‘teez’s I’ve had in my past surgeries. They ALL had great personalities and loved to joke around.
When I told the surgeon that cannabis helped me post/operation, he laughed at me. I was an ICU nurse since 1979, and really felt blown off by his attitude
SHOUT OUT to all of the doctors that treat us like HUMANS and share information instead of treating us like drug addicts! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!
thats literally 99.9 percent that treat us like druggies, maybe if they didnt see money, and how they could just knock someone off for an immedient 90k........................
@thewirah1 most people arent human beings, but person's. a role playing character that's being dictated by the culture to act a certain way. theyre lost people who need substance to feel other than self... take pain killers for an instance. instead of fixing the underlying problem, you take medication to solve the signal in your brain that tells you something is wrong. without touching the part witch is actually causing issues... or anti depression meds, you take them to not feel a certain way, without actually fixing whats the cause. the root problem... we act and pretend our whole lives, THAT has nothing to do with being human. but it has everything to do with acting normal, soo, who's normal is it? yours, or big businesses their normal witch allows them to make a profit of your illments with numbing medication...
I had a doctor who tried to refuse to take me as the first patient of the day when I had a drug problem. This was for an endoscopy. He went ballistic that I could contaminate his equipment with HIV and hepatitis (which I have never had). After I threatened him with legal action for his discriminatory manner and the implication that he did not clean his equipment between patients, he reluctantly went ahead with the procedure. All without a pre-med injection or a throat numbing spray as he said he was concerned about drug interactions. I was tied to the bed to immobilise me and he kept the equipment in my oesophagus/stomach after I was wretching violently and showing very clear signs of distress. I had explained my drug use on admission and was told I should get extra pre-med due to my drug tolerance.
I'm a 64 yr. old heavy weed smoker. Just had an endoscopy / colonoscopy and thanks to this video I had an open and honest conversation with the anesthesiologist beforehand, came through with out any issues and, unlike a previous Propofol anesthesia, was calm and pleasant in post. The information you've presented alleviated so much anxiety and contributed to a healthy outcome. Thank you so much!
50 yr. old pothead here. I was always very upfront with that. It probably helps that I live in Europe, but I always thought it was a bad idea to force the docs into a guessing game.
I just want to start by saying that I respect what you are doing, by providing the information needed to the people. It is very very hard to trust a doctor with weed, drinking, drugs, cigarettes, etc. I told my surgeon that I had been sober from alcohol for over 15 yrs. They then flagged my chart as alcoholic, even thought it’s been 15 years. The stigma sticks on you. So a life saving surgery for me has now been cancelled because of something that when on for 6 month, got treatment for it and have no desire to go back to drinking. My experience telling a doctor about my past use of alcohol, has ended up cancelling surgery needed to live and now what is going to be end of life care. The system is very broken.
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!
Yes, dr.sporesss. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
I'm 66 years old. I have been smoking pot since I was 11 years old. I had full hip replacement surgery in 2019. I smoked up until surgery and a couple of puffs the morning of the surgery. I didn't know any of this before surgery. I'm very Blessed that nothing happened to me during and after surgery. Thank you for the information! I'm at the point where I'm going to stop smoking pot and think about my future and my health! I am very productive and assume my responsibilities daily. I'm at the point where it's time to stop! One thing I do attribute to smoking pot. At 66 years old, I am healthy and I don't take any prescription medications!
Diagnosed with Bi-polar & childhood PTSD about 17 years ago. Tried to use prescriptions....failed me miserably (I would take one at 6 pm, be asleep by 6:30 and be out until 7 am and had young children, not good) and wasn't going to go through the rollercoaster ride of figuring it out. Cannabis was my best way to control and function with my issues. Saved my life. Might not work for everyone, but it helps me tremendously.
The Endocannabinoid system has the purpose of creating homeostasis within the body. It is proven that there are receptors that are specifically activated when cannabis is consumed. ❤🎉😅 It is also known as the "God Plant." 😊 What does endocannabinoid system do? The endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the brain primarily influences neuronal synaptic communication, and affects biological functions-including eating, anxiety, learning and memory, reproduction, metabolism, growth and development-via an array of actions throughout the nervous system.
You're the first medical professional I've come across willing to give any practical advice about marijuana other than a D.A.R.E. style abstinence message. Thank you.
syk: Hardly anybody talks about it objectively. It's almost always either "This stuff is bad, M K" or "This stuff cured my leukemia." Nothing in between,
I was in a motorcycle accident and have MANY debilitating injuries. I’ve had spinal fusion, 7 left knee surgeries, 5 left hand and arm surgeries, shoulder surgery, three right foot surgeries…just to name a few of the more serious injuries. I use medical marijuana to keep me off pills and keep my nausea at bay. I am always transparent to all drs and surgeons. It’s really refreshing to hear an educated doctor speak on cannabis and how it can interact with anesthesia. I feel that most medical staff simply look down on cannabis and try to shame/judge people instead of educating people. Thank you for this video
I'm a fellow spinal cord injury patient. Before Cannabis I was prescribed massive doses of Oxycontin, Gabapentin, etc. Cannabis is far more effective with far fewer negative side effects. I've never had a Anaesthesiaologist or any MD or nurse look down on or shame me for my choice. Quite the opposite. My two primaries the last 15yrs encourage my using Cannabis over Opioids as they've seen positive results for patients like me. If I'd followed Typical Western Medicine protocols, statistically according to actuary tables, I'm looking at many years in a wheelchair and in a nursing home. God willing, I'll continue to defy the statistics until I die an old man. Long-term care insurance is not available to me. No company is willing to write me a policy the last 15yrs. I can honestly say if I'd done what I was told post op, I'd have a morphine pump. That was actually recommended at one time by an Anaesthesiaologist/Pain Specialist who did nerve oblations in my spine to not much help.
Hey chronic pain & spinal/Neuro damage folks!!!! Try Acupuncture!! ACUPUNCTURE. Please give this a try for at least a month/4 consecutive sessions. Good God it's amazing. Yes, you have to Keep doing it, there's no 'I'm Cured now!'.... actually Idk if that's true or not, but when I was doing Acupuncture, OMG, WOW. Just, Please check that out really!!! It's not covered by insurance unless you're VA, but it's relatively inexpensive & Worth More than Every Penny baby
@@e.1766 I have. It helps greatly with recurring spasms. It doesn't help traumatic nerve damage and torturous, debilitating nerve pain. It's the nerve pain that's the worst for most spinal cord injury patients. Pain so bad you'd agree to have limbs amputated to get rid of it...but the pain isn't in the limb(s).
I've been smoking Marijuana for over 50 years now and have had several surgeries, most recently I had my right kidney removed and my doctor and surgeon both were aware. No problems ever. Thank God for my blessings 🙏
When speaking to any medical professionals it is so important to be completely honest. I'm lucky to have providers that I'm comfortable with speaking frankly about all aspects of my health.
Definitely, even if it’s not about the substances, it can be very defining for your experience whether or not you tell them everything. If you are embarrassed to tell your doctor or think it’s not important about symptoms or side effects, you could put yourself through needless suffering. I’m really glad I have great doctors I can be frank with, it is sad when patients cannot feel like they can talk to their doctor about personal things that are important to their medical care. I am part of a doctor-phobic population, so I see this every time I connect with others in this group.
But what state are you in? If I told doctors I used pot they’d immediately stop giving me pain meds. They even do it cold turkey. I find that to be malpractice given the possible severity of withdrawal. Texas republicans are fighting legalization like they do in most Republican states. Those idiots believe Reefer Madness was a documentary.
Good on you Doc, taking it upon yourself to go beyond your everyday duties to educate the masses. We thank you for your kindness and hope it comes back to you in spades.
I am a retired PACU nurse. It’s cool to hear about my profession which I loved for 45 years. My last clinical day was as interesting as my first. Than you.
Doctor I think it's amazing that you're concerned about people getting the care they deserve along with educating us on many topics. Think your information can very well save lives. Thank you.
@@blahpunk1 The Canadian government legalized the weed for "recreational purposes" , and they sell it as well .They could care less about our health . Younger people smoke it now and some move on to heavier drugs and end up in the morge . Thanks for the info doc.but much of it will fall on deaf ears . As Bob Dillon sang , "Everyone's Gotta Get Stoned" . And ,by the way , what about nicotine in our system ? Smoking addictive tobacco is really the beginning of drug use ....
He is a gem out of many that are not. I was an ODP in UK an anaesthetic tech and a lot of doctors are not as liberal or as nice as this doctor. A lot of doctors are massively in the ego and treat you like a your totally beneath you. I did the job about a decade and left due to 50 percent of the time it being a rather topic environment.
chronic user. had two procedures wherein i was supposed to be sedated unconscious however both times I was experiencing anesthetic awareness - I was totally awake and felt everything during the procedures but couldn't move couldn't even move my eyes or blink. horrible. i wish i knew this information before, thanks for posting this you will save thousands of people the same traumatizing memories.
I'm so sorry you had that experience, but I greatly admire your vulnerability in sharing that. I hope you learned something new and feel empowered to advocate for your health 🙏
U have to have better sense than that !!! U can’t use some other drugs that change ur mental and emotional feelings . It’s full of chemicals and u have to know all of them are not going to mix well with the anesthesia the dr’s use . I guess some people have to actually live it before they learn not to do it .
@@cdoublejj i still use it every day because it fills the void of being as lonely as I am and never having had a father figure in my life. i have nobody and nothing, cannabis is my rock. much love.
I truly hadn't thought like this. THC for myself is a daily thing. Mainly for appetite and anxiety/depression. This is so important, I had no idea. Thank you for this information!!!
I’m a disabled veteran who suffers with a longterm opiate dependence issue. I was continuously prescribed opiates by an army doc and unlike what many say I’m greatful for him. I’m so happy he did not allow the stigma with opiate prescribing affect his desire to help me. I had 3 herniated disks in a combat situation oct15 2008. At the same time my best friend was shot standing 10 feet in front of me. That doctor actually treated me and my brother so I feel like he likely had sympathy for me. Needles to say I’ve been on buponorphine since 2012 and I ABSOLUTLEY cannot get off of It without becoming suicidal. I’ve heard of the IV treatment you mentioned and would love to see more about it. I’m willing to try anything aside from being placed into a coma which is about the only way I see anything working to be honest and yes it’s that bad. I am a combat vet and a very hardened masculine man so just fyi for anyone who thinks that being manly is what it takes to treat opiate addiction is ignorant
God bless you with His wisdom and Strength and May His Healing Wings Touch your broken body and relieve you of all pain in Yeshua’s Name Amen. Thank You God for good people. Thank you for your service in my Armed Forces! You fought for my freedom and the freedom of others.
🇺🇲🫡🇺🇲 11B, 3-7 IN, 3ID vet here. Thank GOD they don't have me on opiates, brother. I wish you health and happiness and victory against the opiates. And yeah, being a chest-puffing Chad won't beat that sort of addiction. Some people haven't a clue. Best wishes from New York.
@@Jeff_11B thank you very much. I’ve been just blowing it off and honestly if I don’t tell someone I take buprenorphine nobody would ever know so it’s a mixed bag. I’m a home owner a father to 2 teenagers happily divorced from their insane mother and basically financially secure for life. With all that being said it’s a double edge sword because without that crutch I cam honestly say I would not be alive and that goes back to 2012. So when something saved your life and is maintaining you it’s hard to give it up
I’m an RN and we need more Drs like you that so adequately and graciously explain to patients the actions and interactions of their medications and lifestyle drug use and the affects they have on their body so they can make more sound and beneficial choices related to their health and well-being. Thank you for your sincere dedication to humanity!!!! ❤
They shame you into compliance at the VA. They told me to "Stay out dem books!" and to trust them because they are the experts. They believe only they can understand health related topics. They also say things like "You just think you're in pain" to gaslight you. Mental health holds groups where they insult you because of your race and blame you for things that happened 200 years before you were born. Best part is they can tell everyone you're a crazy and dangerous combat veteran so no one will believe you, until it happens to them. Shame because they really did help me before they went Woke in late 2015. The help for housing and schooling is still good but a lot of red tape. I'll never go to a doctor again, even if I'm shot and bleeding out. Seriously, I'll never go again. They multiplied my PTSD from the experiences. They also use that information against me to declare me "scary and dangerous" without stating what I'm doing or did that makes me so "scary and dangerous".
thank you for being a person with "common sense" and realizing this is a subject that needs to be addressed more openly when it comes to to our health treatment!!!!
Marijuana won't adversely affect a single other psychoactive substance, I suppose it can affect blood pressure slightly, and makes you slightly paranoid. I wish he went into an actual reason it would. But just waving drugs near the head and mentioning receptors when each drug binds to different receptors with different effects, my reasoning hasn't changed.
Thank you for providing such solid and educational videos. I’ve had several surgeries (okay, quite a few) and the person I feel the closest to is the anesthesiologist. The surgeons of course do what they do. The anesthesiologist keeps you alive while the surgeons work. ❤
50 years a cannabis smoker. At 67, I've had many procedures that included fentanyl, propofol and other medications. I've never had an adverse affect...however, I did wake up during a colonoscopy. I was still so sedated that it didn't matter, and the docs didn't seem to be concerned either.
"Humans are not just meat bags. They have so much more sanctity than that." ❤ A doctor after my own heart. Thank you for that. You can put me under any time.
Been in 8 different surgeries and I have never had a problem. But I always inform my surgeon of my usage. I love knowing this now and I'm very glad I got on your channel and heard you talk about the different medications and the effects of combining them. I smoke on and off for pain. I have also always told my medical team well in advance and you back up what they say. This is an awesome channel am I appreciate you for your honesty and frankness and not being negative about use. My support team tells me just what you said usually it's like surgeries in 2 weeks you need to chill out. Surgery is an important issue in your life and will always be that. Never heard it as in the depth that you are sharing and your honesty is absolutely appreciated and informative! Thank you for the lesson and the time that you take to tell others truth about things that can happen that you do not want to have happen! Good information and thank you again!
I never knew what it was called when I wake up bugging out after surgery. This was really informative. No Doctor ever took the time to explain to me it was related to my marijana use. Having Canabanoid Hyperemesis Syndrome myself and living with it almost 20 years I feel like more needs to be done to make people aware of the risks of mariuana. This is my first video and I will be checking to see if you have done anything on CHS.
I just had hernia surgery and they were amazed at how much anestesia I needed, but I disclosed my chronic mj use to all the medical staff so they were prepared. NEVER lie to your doctors; they aren't cops they're there to protect your body for you.
I just had pre-op on the 21st, I was speaking with the Doctor and she asked about drug use. I told her that I smoke marijuana, I have G.I issues and marijuana helps with my appetite. She was more concerned with my smoking of cigarettes, and referred me to a lung doctor for some studies. This put my surgery off by at least 6 months. Never said anything about the marijuana, I'm glad I seen this, and thank you for your advise, I would have never thought about it like this, the surgery is for a hernia also.
Gotta be careful in the states that aren’t legal bc they will not give you the same treatment with pain relieving drugs and so forth if you smoke… IE.. they are gonna drug test you in order to treat you with pain meds if you have surgery and you need more than just Vicodin. Trust me I had to have a very safe private talk with my GI AFTER living in a legal state and having a recommendation for use by a doctor I just brought it back To my home state where they wanted to put it in my file and I said absolutely not bc it could’ve gotten me red flagged on everything and later I had 22 consecutive surgeries removing all of my small intestine so I needed pain meds but also need MJ for nausea, anxiety and appetite with me having GI problems (Crohn’s disease)
I a Veteran of two wars and my wounds are mental and diseases or toxic waste. I eat one meal aday or nothing. Going to VA clinic; Using a Class A drug, (which the federal government collect taxes on) if a VA doctor said that the treatment isn't working because of your use. @user-mj7eb2nv8s Curious if you had open, laparoscopic or robotic surgery, how your hernia recovery is doing. Nothing to do with the video per sea, just that I'm going for one shortly and was looking for real feedback on recovery and time frame.
I went to a pre op class with GF for her shoulder surgery yesterday. At the appointment with physicians assistant afterward I brought weed up as I knew GF wouldn’t. He didn’t seem overly concerned. Thank you for your service to humanity, seems that I was justified in mentioning it, 🙏
I can attest to the "not very fun" situation of waking up during a surgery. Had two knee surgeries approximately 1 year apart, I had informed my doctor's of my cannabis usage and was told not to consume for at least a week before surgery. I did as instructed and woke up right at the end of the surgery. The look on the faces of everyone in the room was "oh shit!". Thankfully they were done. The second time was not cool. I had started edibles to reduce the amount of opiates I was taking so the saturation levels were MUCH higher.. I woke up to the sensation of something being snipped and pressure. After being resedated they finished but the anesthesiologist and I had a conversation after surgery about exactly how much and how strong my edibles were. After providing one of the edibles I was taking for testing and a redo of my blood work I was told about the conflicting qualities of the two. He said I had an insanely saturated system (cannabis) and that was the reason I woke up. Even stopping a week before surgery. After years of being prescribed opiates, I used edibles to get off them and have been in much better shape since, both physically and mentally. This was approximately 12 years ago.
So it's possible to get off opiates (long term user) I switched to methadone about 5 yrs ago and will finally be getting to the 30 mgs mark. I'm also a medical marijuana patient for my PTSD. Many people have said this, I just don't see how marijuana could help ANY symptoms of Opioid withdrawal. But if you did it, I can too. Were edibles the way to go? Flower? I don't do carts anymore I think they aren't good for you overall.
@@analogueoverdigital929 it was a combination of tramadol the first month with strong edibles and RSO (Rick Simpson oil). I was on the opiate train for 16yrs. You are probably going to have to take a couple weeks off to begin the process as the withdrawals can be pretty intense and definitely consult with your doctor in case you have other medical conditions. It was probably the most difficult thing I've done but WELL WORTH IT. It took my body a couple years to fully recover after stopping. Will power and a good support group my friend. Best of luck with your journey, you can do it.
CBD has been proven to help people with opioids and nicotine addiction it helps more with the withdrawal than the cravings but it can help with not having too many cravings flower or edibles will work depending on which form of CBD you want to consume
Dr Kaveh, you're a treasure! I also work in healthcare and it's demoralizing how broken the system is. So grateful that you share your knowledge and empower people and that you validate what so many of us know (the broken system) but are often gaslit when we speak that truth out loud.
If only all doctors and medical personnel could follow your blueprint. I've learned more from your videos than I have in 40 years dealing with local doctors. Thank you so very much!!
Well this is good to know, I never even thought about it to be honest. I do it daily. I recently had oral surgery with sedation and no one asked me if I had THC or CBD. I also take CBG, it helps me with my anxiety depression. It also stops me from raging on stupid people ;)
I had a tooth extraction and told them I smoke beforehand, they said that was fine, but it took me twice as much numbing agent than the average person, is what they told me while injecting it.
I've been a mostly daily smoker for 25 yrs. I've had a hysterectomy, colonoscopy, breast cancer surgery, major surgery on my nose for skin cancer and a couple of major dental surgeries. No one talked to me about any of that. The only time I had an issue with anesthesia was in my 20s (long before I smoked weed) when I 'woke up' during a D&C and could feel everything, hear everything but couldn't move or scream or even open my eyes for what seemed like a long time. Eventually I made a noise and they slapped a mask on me so hard I bit the inside of my cheek. No one even said anything about it later! I was busy dealing with a miscarriage. I've never had any issues with sedation or pain meds after major surgery and usually have half of them left over. I was honest at a doctor's office ONCE. That once item ended up in bold print on the front of all my paperwork, and in a record system used by other providers from other companies! Because of that when I made an appointment for severe sciatica type pain, they refused to even see me unless I signed a form agreeing to random 24 hr notice drug tests. I told them I haven't even asked for pain meds, I want to know what is causing the pain. They refused to see me. It wasn't until a decade later, in a different state with clean records and no talk of cannabis that they finally found I have a 9cm x 13 cm x 5 cm schwannoma growing all over my back that causes the chronic pain and gave me pain meds I needed. So, NO, I will not be honest ever again.
One big benefit to legalization is that we will be able to get accurate medical information without the hype and hysteria. I live in a state where it was legalized, and it really helps to be less afraid to discuss such things with your doctor.
@@doloresreynolds8145 I'm less concerned about legality than poor medical treatment. The large mass growing around my nerves can not be treated or removed. I am not going to show up for drug tests to get the pain meds I legit need
Before I give you my perspective, this is merely my personal experience: at age 76 I was involved in a life ending auto accident. My car was broadsided [on the passenger side] at approximately 80 MPH. I was simply in the wrong place at the right time. I was not wearing my seat belt at the time (I'll explain later). Needless to say, I wound up in the ER, hanging on to life by a thread. In fact, I flatlined three times before the surgeon began her operation. Obviously, I survived by the sheer will of a surgeon, on weekend duty, who decided she can save a life. That fateful day, March 13, 2021, I was having a great time with my dog at the dog park on a sunny, warm day. My dog was a two year old pitbull mix, who I rescued from the street. This poor guy had such separation anxiety that I couldn't leave him alone for any length of time. One day, I had to pick up a pair of glasses, and it took longer than I had anticipated, but Rio was okay in the car. Wrong! I was gone for about 15 minutes, but that was enough time for this dog to chew through every seat belt in the car. Anxiety? I should think so. So, that's why I wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time. Now, for my personal experience...I'm a marijuana smoker, have been all my adult life. That's the reason I became interested in Dr. Kaveh's video about marijuana and surgery. My injuries were so extensive that I wasn't expected to survive. Nobody was able to ask whether I had THC in my system, and I obviously had plenty. Was I just lucky that I had an experienced anesthesiologist on duty, along with an incredibly skillful surgeon, who wouldn't give up on an old man on her operating table? There's no real answer for that, other than, to tell you this: I'm now 79, and I still smoke marijuana. Am I addicted? Sure, but in defense of my addiction, I don't smoke cigarettes, no alcohol, and other than the incredible injuries I now deal with daily, I'm in pretty good health. The message I have for all you folks who smoke marijuana: Don't get freaked out about this doctor's study about addiction. I have learned through all this, that, death happens, and life happens. We don't have control of that. Live your life as best you can, and if smoking (or ingesting edibles) is your thing, embrace it and be happy with life. It can be taken from you in a fraction of a second, regardless of what a Dr. Kaveh may tell you about addiction and surgery. If you are granted the next minute of life, live it, don't let others do it for you. P.S. Rio survived the accident with minor injuries, and he was adopted from animal control within a few days. I was still in ICU when they asked what I wanted to do with the dog...I had to give him up. Now, by some miracle, I have a wonderful, six year old German Shepherd by my side 24/7, and life is good as I spark up a big fat, and enjoy this day. 😎
I was in a car accident too. I was awake and told all the staff about my use. They all said no problem. My knees were injured having cartalidge torn in both. I declined my opiod prescription and smoked cannabis. I have pain but I take a puff and drive on.. Ill never run or jog again or be able to do squats at the gym. Knee replacement when the pain is too much. My life,my decision. Weed and my cane.

I used to be a Marijuana user. I'm fortunate enough to not have an addictive personality, so I had no troubles stopping smoking, the same for Tabaco and Alcohol. And I have never tried any other form of drugs that were not prescribed and never formed any addictions to those that were, despite being told they were highly addictive. I really think it depends on the individual. I have switched to Non-THC CBD edibles for pain use only when absolutely necessary. I recently had to be put under using Fentanyl for emergency surgery and informed them I had been taking CBD for weeks to help cope with the unbearable pain. I don't use any other pain killers like ASA or acetaminophen due to their ineffectiveness and side effects, especially with long term use. They told me it wasn't an issue, and it wasn't in this case, the operation went really well. So I'm really surprised to learn this and thank you for taking the time out of your day to share this very informative information with us.
Sounds like me but I still use weed tho ^^ I drank alot when partying when was younger but no isseus in stopping that. Also not wanting to try other substances cause I know what might happen when I enojy it XD
Back many years ago when I was a smoker I had a strange experience the day following a gastroscopy. I was smoking probably the day after the procedure and began to recall the entire experience! Weed seemed to reverse the amnesia from the anaesthetic/sedation.
As a 62 year old dentist, practicing for 35 years, I often think about what patients have "onboard" and are reluctant to discuss!! For me, it's the efficacy of our local anestetics that might be compromised for many reasons that you elucidate beautifully. Thanks Doc!!
I was told pre surgery to stop all habits, including weed. It was difficult but I managed to stop one month before. Why? Cause I didn’t want any complications. As a result I managed to quit altogether 🙏🏻 Surgery was a blessing in disguise!
Hi, I had double hernia surgery 4 weeks ago. I "was" a lifetime smoker of cannabis and fearing the worst before surgery I went on a bender. Consequently, I was hard to get anesthetized, and when they were taking out mouth tube, I woke up and ripped out my blood cables and it took 6 Dr's and nurses to hold me down. They hit me with other drugs, which didn't work, and they finally used Ketamine to knock me out. I have no recollection of it. I have now stopped smoking for 4 weeks and actually feel better for it. Don't smoke before surgery.
Common sense not to…. I’m a smoker but I don’t smoke much … a joint at the most… I never had surgery. I got my wisdom teeth pulled but I wasn’t put to sleep or anything. But I did mention it to my dentist that I smoke & he told me not to smoke Wait for three days… and I did …. I stop for about a year& started back… I’m not a heavy smoker though. A joint a day I’d that I smoke & put it out once I’m high… never did any other drugs. I don’t even drink alcohol….
@@NoemadZ. that's not messed up. CBD and THC oils have been proven to cut a seizure in approximately 60 seconds. It's so safe you can use it for your pets who have seizures. I used to smoke, at no point in time were there any issues with anesthesia, nor did I have a problem with anesthesia being effective. They gave me a more powerful anesthesia because I smoked..... once. It caused me physical pain. It was too much. It felt like my vein was on fire. I could feel it working it's way up my arm. There's no way marijuana caused what this dude said it did.
I've smoked for 45 some years and I work in the medical field for years. Thanks for your education and giving contradictions and actions of the drugs you use during surgery.
@@teleriferchnyfain Caffeine won't put you in a mental health establishment and, possibly, requiring long term treatment. For anybody still dumb enough to believe that weed is a harmless, non-addictive, natural medicinal plant..... please feel free to volunteer at your local mental health hospital and talk with the patients and staff. Be warned.... it will force some unpleasant truths on you.
I had 8 teeth surgically removed a few weeks ago and after the op i received a script for painkillers and antibiotics (the doctor yold me that it is very important that i complete the course of antibiotics). When i got home i was in severe pain and bleeding, instead of the prescribed medication i swirled some of my own recipe of cannabis ointment around in my mouth. The pain and the bleeding stopped almost immediately. I repeated the treatment until my mouth had healed completely. I had a check-up after about 2 weeks and the doctor was surprised how quickly i healed ( i had more than 30 stitches in my mouth after the op. I am 70 years old
OMG! You helped me so much! I didn't know I was going to need to have an emergency appendectomy when I started binge-watching your channel 2 weeks before I ended up in the ER. My surgery went so smoothly. I was so relaxed that the Anesthesiologist didn't get a chance to finish talking to me about the surgery. I didn't even get a chance to tell her that I had woken up with tubes in my nose before. I tell you I think the Universe brought me to your channel to prepare me for this emergency surgery. I have been telling everyone about how much easier you made my surgery. I really appreciate it.
If the universe brought you to this information then you're talking about intentionality. If the universe is intentionally trying to guide you toward things that are good for you or protect you from waking up to [awefullness] then you are -- by definition -- not only talking about a God, but a God that cares about people. If there is a God that proactively cares about people, and cares about what information they are exposed to then -- by definition -- it has a specific, best plan for you. And apparently, by your definition, he wants to communicate that to you. Perhaps you should seek that.
@@_SYDNA_ not necessarily. The universe doesn't need a god to exist and do what it does. In fact with superdeterminism there is a "plan" but that was set out at the very moment of the universe' existence. Also, some people may in fact look at it like there is a plan but it isn't a god per se but rather the universe collectively as an existence as a whole guiding things a certain way, rather than a god making changes.
I had wrist surgery years ago and was strung out on fentanyl at the time, I never went long without doing some, and was truly surprised nothing bad happened when I woke up from surgery. Pain was immediate upon waking though, apparently abusing opioids makes you think everything hurts more.
Since I had uterine cancer and started smoking during chemo and radiation it's impossible for me to get an appetite without it. I also have PTSD really bad and the marijuana helps me sleep. I became addicted to Oxycontin back when I had cancer and then I was on Methadone for 17yrs but 5yrs ago I switched to Suboxone. I've detoxed myself from 24mgs down to 2mgs. If it wasn't for marijuana I wouldn't have been able to do it. I do plan to wean down on my marijuana use after I complete the Suboxone detox, I just have to do 1 thing at a time. I appreciate you being open to having this conversation, I became an Integrated Healthcare Recovery Support Specialist in 2019 and now I work in the psychiatric field helping others with their mental health and substance abuse disorder and I am definitely going to share this information.
As a nurse of 40 yrs and working in a preop/postop area, I have noticed a dramatic increase in Marijuana use. When you ask if they smoke they immediately think of Cigarettes. When asked or probed further some will admit Marijuana but probable most are not honest with how often and how much. Its very important to know after listening to this because we are the ones treating nausea and pain after surgery in the recovery period .Thanks for the great lecture!
This BS covid hit. I found out there are a lot of fake doctors and nurses up there. I found out a lot of them are for what they called the pharmaceutical nurse doctors. Pharmaceutical company's need customers. So they have doctors that do their dirty work. They don't want you to heal . That's why it tells you about side effects. this and that may cause this. And then they give you another pill on top of that. And say it's to help. Until one day you keep accepting those pills and you find out. You take over 20 different medications and your life has been drained out of you. Your connection to the Divine is completely blocked. Because of the pills. The pharmaceutical company knows this. Evil minions always have ways to cut you off from God. And that's why the world has gotten darker full of evil. Because of the pills... Anytime I have to take pills or something I get sick. So I can't take them. I feel weird in my body. And it's not supposed to do that l. those are bad chemicals in those pills. And they want you to believe that oh you have to accept that. No you don't. that's your body telling you the chemicals are not for your human body.
If you believe a word of what he says you have zero understanding of knowledge and information. Just like all the cops today…don’t know the law, just spout out anything that comes to mind.
Excellent information. I recently had oral surgery. It's the 3rd time in my life I was put under (I was much younger for the first 2 times). My doctor instructed me to not use THC products 2 days prior to the operation. This was easy for me as I only take some THC (I'm debating currently if quality weed vs vaping is the better choice) late evening to help me sleep, which works wonders. It is extremely rare that I have a poor sleep now. I suffered commonly from insomnia. I almost never take any medication even for pain other than extreme headaches (very, very rare for me). I'd prefer to not use THC, but I can work, body build, and sleep wonderfully now, so I continue to balance it's use as best I can. My point however, is under my first 2 times under anesthesia (I did not take THC back then), it took me days to recover from it (nurses had a terrible time waking me up). I informed my doctor of this. After this operation, I woke up easily. I was clear headed, balanced and was rather shocked to be honest. My doctor knew I used some THC, and understood my sensitivity to anesthesia. I feel they did a wonderful job and I thanked them. Be clear and open to your medical team. Make sure they listen. My fears have diminished greatly now. They did a great job. I should add that I did a light fast prior to this operation. I wanted to reduce my body inflamation. My recovery was fast and without complications. I have no idea if this contributed to that, but I believe it did.
I take 60 mg of FULL SPECTRUM CBD OIL, which I use to control the high caused by the THC. I know this works because I can smoke weed all day and feel not much of a buzz. Some of the other effects are present, like spaciness, and short-term memory loss. I'm 71 and doing well over 200 mg of THC everyday, without being stoned or distracted. Cannabinoids help recoveries in ways you can't imagine. I've seen this in my last 4 surgeries, and when my partner went in for a couple of different procedures, one of which was not an optimal experience. PTSD has resulted from that one. when I got her out of recovery I gave her 50mg of full spectrum CBD oil, and a THC infused caramel. Got her home and got her started on her regimen, and she recovered quickly, and I love how I keep hearing how well she recovered and how great she looks afterwards. She doesn't talk about her cannabis use, as she is also a cancer patient, and hasn't enough scientific resources to explain what she does and what she gets from it. It makes me nervous when she has to deal with doctors at a catholic hospital. NO compassion in that place, I'll tell ya.
There are some people who react badly to de-polarizing medications used as anesthesia like succynocholine also called SUX, brand name Anectine. Ask which types of drugs were used with each surgery so you know which ones to avoid.
THANK YOU Dr. Kaveh!!! I can tell that you, as a doctor, ACTUALLY do CARE for and RESPECT patients as individual and VALUABLE human beings. I haven't been to any doctors for a while. Tired of being dismissed, treated as an unwanted child, not listened to, understood or believed. You are a breath of fresh air!!! Thank you also for the warmth with which you share!❤
He is not the only anesthesiologist who thinks and practices this way. My partner and I have practiced this way since before this doc went to med school. Neither of us have ever touched weed either.
I went for my colonoscopy. Had 5 resections and 2 hearnies in my throat. Sent home W NO PAIN MEDS. 3 months later still in pain. I can't even get out of bed.
Also percocet didn't help for my hemorrhoid op at all. I have taken care of my husband 30yrs w so many different cancers I knew that oxycontin worked well. Doctors don't treat their family's or community officials like that.
I had a family member who needed hip replacement. We were taking opioids and alternating edibles every other day prior to surgery to help manage pain. We were worried about becoming addicted to the opioids. The doctor was aware of the protocol and did not have a problem with it. This was back when no one knew the reactions pot had with other mediation. After surgery the blood pressure was a lot lower than it should have been. Our doctor did research on it and instructed us not to use pot for 4 weeks prior to the second surgery. Thank you for taking time to put this video together. Good job.
Wow!! Thank you for the candid chat, you educate without prejudice. Your clients are very lucky to have you caring for them!! Kudos for being an excellent doctor. Wish there were more like you out there!! ❤❤
It's best to be honest with your doctor or your anesthesia person. Surgery and being put under plays a role with living and recovery. Thank you for doing this video for people. 😊❤
Your honesty is refreshing and the most helpful cannabis info I've heard. With the lack of info we have because of the lack of research due to legalities. Doesn't hurt that you're so cute
I had to be put under for a surgery this past October, I'm a medical patient and told my anesthesiologist because I read that THC can affect anesthesia. Everything was fine. Be honest with doctors.
In New Zealand there was a good study done on cbds ability to relieve pressure and inflammation on the kidneys and allows them to recover and regenerate nephrons which have been deprived of life. I quit taking all 13 medications my nephrologist asked me to take at 5% function; I was throwing up every day all day; they put me on promethazine, I was asleep for 22 hours a day and my body was in so much pain from all the different pharmaceutical drugs. I started using pill form cbds in high does; my function went from 5% to 28% and I still do not take anything. They wrote in my chart I was uncooperative for not taking the medications they said “we’re what ALL kidney failure patients have to take!” Never felt better. More study needs to be done.
I was diagnosed with marijuana abuse disorder recently. Never realized how harshly it was affecting my body. Down to only an eigth a week from an ounce. Feeling a bit better too! My therapist doesnt want me to quit completely because it is very helpful for many other conditions i have. But i need a short break and maybe some education on proper medical use! Dont be afraid to be honest and help yourself. Its all for being a better person!
I have the same issue..I'm at like an 8th a day if not more...I'm scaring myself bc the more I try to stop the scareder I get and buy more even tho I can't quite afford this habit
@@YoNeener can u please elaborate on what u mean by brainwashed? One could make that argument in many different ways just saying your brainwashed doesn't really mean anything bc we already know we got an issue
@@YoNeener can you not explain in more depth without having this condescending attitude? We are all ignorant to something, we are only human Personally I have been unable to stop cannabis for about 7 years now despite a lot of suffering as a result of the habit, and countless attempts to stop. What would you call this?
The reason why people do not want to tell their doctors is that anything you say can be put in your medical records, which insurance companies and potentially law enforcement can have access to. Patients should be guaranteed complete privacy which unfortunately isn't the case.
Holy shit! I love you! As a human with CPTSD, much of it from chronic childhood illnesses, multiple multiple bouts of anesthesia for multiple surgeries and procedures, chronic pain, patient. Latest is fentanyl, patch and oxycodone daily, heavy weed smoker, and this last year started micro-dosing psilocybin with incredible results! (got off of Adderol and Diazepam) journaling, meditation is easier to get to…This is wonderful, wonderful information and will be looking for your other videos as so much of what you’re saying is important to me! I am my own advocate and knowledge is power, and I hope to be having deeper conversations with my anesthesiologist in my up coming procedure, I do worry that the Dr. will kill me! I am intentionally cutting back on both smoke and dosing this month before procedure! Thank you ❤
Thank you. I found this video very helpful. For me it’s low level anxiety, but more then that, bad insomnia. I was aware to stop 1 month before any surgeries, but it was never explained to me why. I haven’t had to have surgery in decades, but the last time I was put under was for 7 teeth to be removed before I got braces. When I woke up, I couldn’t recognize who my mom was. So I’m not exactly fond of going under. I’ve been given oxycodone’s before for a car accident injury and taking it for 3 days took 7 days for me to eat normal again. I do not respond well to those class of drugs, yet herbal has always helped. This is very thorough and you’re a good teacher at explaining. I hope you continue these videos.
I have a relatable story. I had my first surgery a few months ago and I asked the doctor about my prior drug use and if it could affect my anesthesia. I was worried my opioid addiction may have affected my bodies tolerance for certain medications. And I also asked about the delta-8 gummies I consume. They didn't seem to be concerned but thanked me for mentioning it and made a note.
Yup. Sugar is the first modern drug.. Sugar cane plantations were the main demand for slaves on colonial plantations. It fits the definition of a refined drug and has similar effects socially and physically.
I have had several surgeries and I love my surgeons but I have to trust the anesthesiologist because he is the one who is gonna keep me alive during the surgery and its good to see one like you very knowledgeable and I would love to pick you brian about so many things but thank you for your service to the medical field.
My first neurologist told me in 02 the only way I was going to get better is if I moved to medical states. Oddly 12 years later: He was right. Thanks for this Doc.
Thank you for this information. I hope to never have to have another surgery, but you never know. I recently started trying a cannabis edible for chronic pain. I’ve only taken it once, but it seemed to work. I have never used cannabis/marijuana before in my life and I’m dang near 70.
Thank you I'm a recovery room nurse and I try to explain this kind of stuff to people before surgery and even after surgery and they don't get it. They don't believe me. Thank you for putting this out there!
A lot of people don't want to believe you because they know it helps them. That's why and I'm the same way I wouldn't believe you either. Hell, my doctor told me I could smoke the day of my surgery.
Thank you for being honest and allowing us to advocate for ourselves without rolling eyes because we want to. My Dr. Recently retired and I can’t even find one available for a simple yearly checkup. I go to the doctor once a year and it’s pretty sad I can’t find one doctor in my area taking new patients!
As a CPP, I hit the roof when told I had to abstain for a week before the colonoscopy when the surgeon who took out my gallbladder on the 5th only said needed to abstain for 24 hours before surgery. I am so exhausted by the unrelenting pain; my baseline pain went from a tolerable 4 to a gut-wrenching 6 after surgery that I am currently trying to bring down. I have ALL the pains: neuropathy, hypermobility in most joints, arthritis in my spine, fibromyalgia, and just diagnosed systemic lupus. Life SUCKS.
I’ve been honest about my marijuana use with my doctors for years. Oddly, not one of them talked to me about my drug use prior to my full hysterectomy…my massive rotator cuff tear and detached bicep muscle or my two knee replacements. They also didn’t talk to me AT ALL about the opioids they put me on, so that I had no idea, on the first operation, why when I tried to get off of them , I experienced all kinds of withdrawal affects. When I asked them why I was feeling so emotional, had the shakes, etc…they said I probably needed to be on anti depressants. I had to educate myself (google) before further surgeries. Doctors need a HUGE education in this stuff!
My husband experienced a similar thing, although he wasn't on marijuana then. After an accident the doctors were giving him all kinds of opiates and didn't tell him anything about it, and when he went home AMA he had no idea why he was so sick! He had become addicted! He realized the pills were poison and that the doctors were essentially killing him. So he started on cannabis and hasn't looked back. As a doctor, one would think you knew what was in the meds you prescribe. Each one of the pills my husband was given contained huge amounts of acetaminophen, which is highly hepatotoxic. Unless you are given straight forms of opiates, such as injectable morphine sulphate, KEEP TRACK of the doses of acetaminophen and keep them to a one-person amount.
Thanks for all the great information. I don’t use cannabis currently, but have in the past. I’ve had several surgeries over the last three years. I wish more anesthesiologist were as available to their patients as you. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing your next post
Great reminder to always be honest with your medical team, even when it is uncomfortable to do so. And I am glad to see I'm not the only one who played "true confessions" with my anesthesiologist before my second back surgery. Now I know why he laughed his ass off and told me I would be alright 😂😂
With anesthesiologist , sure, since they definitely don't want to see you die directly at their hands. For all others, exercise caution in answering questionnaires unless you are certain about their motivations and understand their power to wreck your life with the information you are choosing to share.
We appreciate the honest and clearly explained information that relates to use of Cannabis alongside anesthesia. Great information and it means more coming from a doctor who understands the Pharmacokinetics and potential psychological effects or differences that individuals can experience. It's one complex chemistry experiment in our bodies. The more we add into our system, the further complicated it becomes. The stigma is certainly harsh and creates an environment non-conducive to harm reduction. So thanks for speaking out on hard to speak on topics.
Really enjoying your talks about anesthesia. Went ahead and posted this on my timeline because you’re absolutely correct, people are not transparent with their doctors because of shame and judgment. We definitely need to get over it. Thanks again for being so caring.
I am a paraplegic, who is having surgery in less a month, and I shared an edible with a friend to help with ptsd etc. thank you for this. Surgery is in 26 days and I ate it about a week ago. I will not doing anymore until I am healthier, and not having problem needing surgery.
lol you'll be fine, friend. this is only an issue for heavy daily users or if you were to consume right before your surgery. If cannabis edibles can ease your pain then consult your doctor because you shouldn't let yourself get scared into thinking you can't benefit from it or will somehow be harmed.
So, what they do to you? They cut u from belly button up down? They did to me, my diverticulitis popped and had to have a portion of my large intenstin removed where the sacks were and ruptured!!
As a Anesthesiologist in the 1960s, I never had an issue with this. And Our (3.3%) death rate was way lower than Anesthesiologist nowadays (5.5%), all I can say is, BE BETTER!
In 2008 I went in to have surgery on my left shoulder, a simple strap surgery. I didn't tell the Dr I had smoked heavily the night before and that morning, because it was 2008 and I was in Texas and the stigma surrounding Marijuana and The Law was extreme. During the surgery, the Versed didn't keep me under they said, and I kept waking up mid ways through the surgery. And they had to give me more to keep me out, which almost caused them to lose me. I never told anyone about the MMJ use. So, skip forward to 2012, I went in to have surgery on the same shoulder, this time for a total shoulder replacement, and again I smoked heavily the night before, and woke up with a Joint. Went in for surgery that day, we never mentioned the THC because in Texas they frown on us smokers, so during that surgery they almost lost me again, what would have been a 12 hour event turned into a 22 hour event and I had a massive heart attack on the table and was moved to ICU right after surgery. I'm saying all of this because I still use THC. I have a lot of medical issues and don't like opiates. I like how I can go a day or two without cannabis and not have the withdrawal symptoms I would with any opiates I would take. I was on Oxycodone and other pain mgmt medications for years and prefer to use cannabis VS opiates. But the stigma surrounding using cannabis in a non legal marketplace has several factors that hurt it's proactive ability to ease pain. I need surgery again, and won't have it because again, I can't be honest with my PCP here because she looks at THC like it's a bad thing, but she has no problem sending me to a pain mgmt provider who's best option is some opiates 🤷🤦🏻♂️
I never realized this was a thing! I thought it was just me!
"Titrate to effect"
I spent a long time as a street paramedic.
They ALL had great personalities and loved to joke around.
best of luck, be well.
I'm a retired nurse and in need of 2 knee replacement and 1 hip replacement! Im in pain all the time and constantly taking Motrin ! I'm only 62
When I told the surgeon that cannabis helped me post/operation, he laughed at me. I was an ICU nurse since 1979, and really felt blown off by his attitude
SHOUT OUT to all of the doctors that treat us like HUMANS and share information instead of treating us like drug addicts! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!
90% Should be charged with GENOCIDE for breaking the NUREMBERG CODE ... REAL DOCTORS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED 💉 💀
thats literally 99.9 percent that treat us like druggies, maybe if they didnt see money, and how they could just knock someone off for an immedient 90k........................
Drug addicts aren't humans?
Try a vaporiser. You will get full extraction from your weed instead of losing over 50% of the thc and the other cannabiods available via combustion
I am 64 just did the same test I always tell them I smoke . It's in my medical record I had no problem with procedure I smoke sun up until sundown
😢
Praying for u to get the needed surgery!❤ so sorry that happened.
Wow that's horrible 😕
Yes it is and that's wrong.
Don't give up! Ask what you can do in order to get that operation. It is so honorable that you are taking care of your body!

Why quit smoking it if you love it and have no ill-effects from it? It’s probably highly responsible for your great health and attitude 💪

Double edged sword always remember that. Hope you don’t have to use it forever
The Endocannabinoid system has the purpose of creating homeostasis within the body. It is proven that there are receptors that are specifically activated when cannabis is consumed. ❤🎉😅
It is also known as the "God Plant." 😊
What does endocannabinoid system do?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the brain primarily influences neuronal synaptic communication, and affects biological functions-including eating, anxiety, learning and memory, reproduction, metabolism, growth and development-via an array of actions throughout the nervous system.

I'm glad your still with us !!! Thank u for sharing this with us all ❤
Glad to see you are still with us! May the weed be easy to come by, and may you never experience great pain again.
When speaking to any medical professionals it is so important to be completely honest. I'm lucky to have providers that I'm comfortable with speaking frankly about all aspects of my health.
That's a very powerful observation! I hope you feel it has benefited you and your health care
The trouble is in the US, your insurance company can get this information and use it to raise your rates or deny you care.
Nope been burned too many times with horrible docs. If I die on the table so be it, past caring.
Good on you Doc, taking it upon yourself to go beyond your everyday duties to educate the masses. We thank you for your kindness and hope it comes back to you in spades.

Rns usually just give people the crazy look and talk about them to coworkers

So glad Rio was OK ( and you 😉).

Wow, what a story! ❤Glad your fine. You're right. I always feel better after I quit.
You're on something else as well. Go ahead and spill, what else you do?
@@carminescurse That's messed up LOL...
✌️😂✌️
@@NoemadZ. that's not messed up.
I’m glad you’re raising awareness about this topic. People need to understand that weed is not harmless, especially when used regularly.
Moderation in anything is key.
The list of things that are equally ‘not harmless’ as weed might be instructive here. Caffeine is one.
I am 70 years old
Cool story bro
I smoke every day and my dentist knows 😂
Thank you, Nurse, but honestly, it shouldn’t fall on you; but like everything else, it does. Truly an honorable profession.
I've only had one anesthesiologist call me the night before. It made a huge improvement on my anxiety the day of my surgery. I wish they all do it.
What strain helps your sleep
It’s about time we get real doctor that care about people thanks for informing the public great video 👍
He is not the only anesthesiologist who thinks and practices this way. My partner and I have practiced this way since before this doc went to med school. Neither of us have ever touched weed either.
Good on you. Refreshing to hear not all Drs have a feeling of superiority. Lots of them forgot the reason they became Drs.
So good to know! Bless you
Thank you, Doctor. Your discussions are interpersonal, therapeutic, and informative. I appreciate the hard work that you do.
I'm so sorry that you went through so much pain😢
Outstanding fact-based information, thank you sir. I worked in the medical field for 40 years. I haven't come across many like you.

This is really important. Thanks Dr.K.
THANK YOU. I wish more Physicians had your attitude when it comes to Patient Care
You're being brainwashed. 😢
@@YoNeener can u please elaborate on what u mean by brainwashed? One could make that argument in many different ways just saying your brainwashed doesn't really mean anything bc we already know we got an issue
@lauracatherine9925 marijuana abuse disorder is myth. Do some research on marijuana addiction vs dependence before accepting a label of disorder.
@@YoNeener can you not explain in more depth without having this condescending attitude? We are all ignorant to something, we are only human
Personally I have been unable to stop cannabis for about 7 years now despite a lot of suffering as a result of the habit, and countless attempts to stop.
Worry is the main issue; but follows mind…👁️
Exactly. They don't care. This video is like soft fear mongering.
Im starting registered nursing soon i think your awesome
It isnt about "worry." It impacts anesthesia efficacy. @user-mq4fe2vb6d
Wow, I've never encountered a doctor this honest and sincere. Thanks, doctor. I appreciate you doing this.
Sugar fits the definition as an addictive substance.
Yup. Sugar is the first modern drug.. Sugar cane plantations were the main demand for slaves on colonial plantations. It fits the definition of a refined drug and has similar effects socially and physically.
There are studies finding sugar to be more addictive than cocaine.

Thank you for this information. I hope to never have to have another surgery, but you never know. I recently started trying a cannabis edible for chronic pain. I’ve only taken it once, but it seemed to work. I have never used cannabis/marijuana before in my life and I’m dang near 70.
@annamaudebug you’re my idol 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Thank you I'm a recovery room nurse and I try to explain this kind of stuff to people before surgery and even after surgery and they don't get it. They don't believe me. Thank you for putting this out there!
I use the weed after the surgery to counteract the nausea from the anesthesia I get really awful nausea.
A lot of people don't want to believe you because they know it helps them. That's why and I'm the same way I wouldn't believe you either. Hell, my doctor told me I could smoke the day of my surgery.
Finally a doctor telling the truth openly.
A condensed version of this should be shown to all patients before surgery. Very educational and it all makes sense.
All of this knowledge and the anesthesiologist in our local hospital still asked my sister if she smoked weed with our mother in the room.
A very empathic doctor with a vast knowledge. Thankyou for sharing your wonderful experience. Very helpful!
Life SUCKS.
I hope you're feeling better after recovery!
Ty@@harpsarp66 I am. Now I'm dealing with the caretaking of my mom. Life is an adventure.
I have to say that what you are doing here with these videos is nothing short of amazing, perhaps even life saving. So thank you.
@@wolfpantsspot on with that
We appreciate the honest and clearly explained information that relates to use of Cannabis alongside anesthesia.
No issue at all
Seriously??
Well done! Your gentle but straightforward and honesty discussion is admirable especially in today's frantic world!
Well said. I fully agree!
