    7.62×39 хороший патрон. В России много используем на косулю (roebuck), бобра, небольших кабанов, волков. SP хорошо останавливает, точен и очень недорогой. Respect from Russia.

    Just realized I just finished my Golden anniversary of deer hunting...50 yrs spent pursuing whitetail deer..Have Deer rifles over 40 yrs old , A Remington mod 700 in 243 and a Ruger Mod 77 in 270....both are still reliable and still in use today..
    Started Hunting at twelve yrs old..It was bucks only back then with a limit of one per season..Took me 4seasons to harvest my first buck.
    Today the deer are everywhere..Even in the towns and cities..we even have urban deer seasons..If you had told us back then that in the future that deer would be living in residential neighborhoods and guys would hunt them with archery equipment..we would never have believed that.
    I have lived through a golden age for deer hunting.I still hunt with the some of the ..old friends and the sons and grandsons .. although time and distance have separated us..we still get together occasionally to participate in that timeless tradition of Deer camp on opening morning...

      My wife many times has asked me what motivates a man to get up before the sunrise, go out into the cold, or the rain , or the snow , sit for hrs freezing...
      It's the feeling that it gets you.when you look and see a deer coming through the woods towards you.... It's a buck !!!.
      I've never gotten tired of that..
      And is still exciting after all these yrs....

    Don't worry about the embarrassment of possibly missing him. Happens to all of us. You're out there hunting and having a ball and that's the most important thing. Been hunting 50 years and just last weekend I missed the biggest buck of my life (12 pointer) by shooting under him at 148 yards. He was also the first deer I've ever missed (with a rifle, missed lots with my bows).
    I'm not sure HOW that happened, but I sure as sh!t missed him. No blood found within 100 yards of where I shot him. Looked in a 300 yard x 300 yard square back in the woods, no body, no blood, nothing. Going out THIS weekend to check the scope as I had it set to be dead on at 100 yard (Savage Axis II in 6.5 Creedmoor). Either I caught buck fever (but I remember having a clean, clear shot and a slow squeeze) OR I bumped the scope out of alignment in the last couple of weeks.

    The natural hunter in WTW "surely I didnt miss that deer." "I was holding right on his shoulder" This is gold because I did the same thing last night. I knew it was a good trigger squeeze but you just always second guess yourself! LOL That can on the 7.62 sounded like AMerica.

    I like the similar 300 blackout for close range and I like the 110 grain barnes vortx load if going supersonic. I can still go play around with subs also. Lot of versatility.

  • @wigon
    @wigon Рік тому +3

    I think that you were spot on as far as aiming for the shoulder (and I'm assuming getting kinda lucky and and avoiding bone and hitting heart and lung). Normally with 7.62x39 on my SKS, on hogs, I always tried to pin the shoulders so I can drop them straight away. I then put a second (or third) well aimed follow up shots to put the animal out of it's miserly quicker. The upside is that I rarely had to track blood trails. The downside is that it destroyed most of the good shoulder meat. It's a trade-off, but I think for those who don't want to track blood trails, a good shoulder-pin shot makes things a lot easier regardless if it's a hog or a deer. As you demonstrated, if you're a bit off you're more likely to get a nice clean heart/lung shot. That's wild that it ran that far though as that Remington Core-Lokt round should have expanded pretty good. But like you said.... velocity is king.
    Even in my home defense pistol, I go for velocity over caliber size. I use a M&P 5.7 pistol as my primary home defense pistol. Low recoil, high velocity, low over-penetration, and high magazine capacity (and high reliability) to me, make it absolutely ideal.

    Love your vids, some our experiences are different. My kids shoot the .300BLK but we use the 110gr VMax. 2 have been DRT in their track, one went about the same as yours. The VMax has more velocity but are made to dump energy rapidly. I think the energy dump is what anchors them. One was at 140 yards and hit the dirt, was not high shoulder either. Just more proof that the smaller .30 stuff can be very effective 👍.

    I really like my Ruger in 7.62 as well, as long as you’re using a soft point it makes for a good eastern whitetail cartridge as proven here, and by myself. Did I hear you say in another video that Remington no longer produces new 762x39 core lokt, and that you ordered some as old stock? That’s a real bummer. I heard that Federal also discontinued their 762x39 Fusion so our options are getting thinner. But I know you can still find Federal’s power shoks in it, and like I said before in a comment on your previous video, I myself used PPU’s pointed soft point on a doe and it worked just as well. I also know Sellier & Bellot Makes brass cased soft points for it as well so I wouldn’t discount those either. Honestly I’d love to see how a Tula steel cased 154 gr soft point would work on a deer, I’d assume just fine as long as the accuracy is there

    @WHOTEEWHO - in your last live video you said 350L was not a good deer catcher. The 30-30 and the 350L are nearly twins. Are you saying the 30-30 can't get it done in the deer woods? I've seen many a deer taken with the 350L.

    • @WHOTEEWHO
      @WHOTEEWHO  Рік тому +4

      Anemic compared to many other options. 30-30 wouldn't even be my tenth choice. If you shoot a deer with 350 legend 9 times out of 10 (or more) you will have to go find your deer. I have friends who hunt with 350 legend - always have to track their deer. If you love 350 have at it - but many better options.

    You need to try .308 hornady 150 grain boat tail softpoint handloads, #34 primer in Norma case, 24.3 grains CFE Blk, seated to the cannelure. In my AR 15 16" BCA barrel, Omega lower, A2 stock I get MOA groups at 100yds. Chrono'd at 2096FPS. Hits them really hard. I know people say .308 bullets are not accurate in the AR 15 platform. Use a .308 expander and no crimp, works fine. Also Hornaday .308 125SST with 27.0 AA1680 seated to cannelure gets 2356FPS and MOA at 100yds. (SAME POINT OF IMPACT IN MY AR 15)
