Agreed all around. As to the landowner, I know some where it is less an issue with the donation of meat than that they see it as a hunter with a filled out freezer continuing to take game when other hunters may not have tagged a deer yet.

My dad has a very similar setup: same scope, same rifle, and a different suppressor. However, he went out this season with some Winchester subsonic target ammo, and I was pretty doubtful about its effectiveness on deer. But he said he shot a smaller doe right behind the shoulder, and it went less than 50 yards before expiring. Additionally, one of my little cousins used some 300 BLK Hornady subsonic ammo and shot a nice buck in the neck, dropping it instantly.
This experience really boosted my confidence in smaller rounds for deer. And I was also thinking, people often successfully hunt deer with 9mm rounds which has similar ballistics to a 300blk. So, to all that to say: if you want to hunt with subsonic ammo, go for it - because, at the end of the day, it's all about shot placement.
Forgot to mention both deer were shot within 50 yards

I went with 300 blk mainly because it’s one of the lighter recoil rounds we can use in IL and my wife and daughter will also be shooting the rifle. Also because it is much easier and cheaper to find FMJs than it is for the 350 or 400 legend. The 350 legend is great deer hunting round but because of its popularity the ammo is a bit of a PITA to track down around here. Lastly it’s nice to have something that takes the same ammo and mags as an AR.

I also have meat in the freezer as well. Every year I donate 1-2 doe every season. People that don’t know me well always ask me “Don’t you have enough?” They don’t realize I give meat away to coworkers, friends and family that are less fortunate. I hunt about 140 acres and I’ve personally seen more then enough deer.

The regulators where I live suggest 750 foot pounds for deer. We have some pretty big deer here though. If you are getting expanded pass throughs, you have more than enough energy.

Funny where they all come up with these numbers. Ie, my state mandates 700 fpe for handguns, and 1200 fpe for rifles. 300 BO makes the limit, some 5.56 do, but many are short. Burden of proof is on you and your ammo. For that reason, and in this state, I will not use 5.56 on deer.

Donate that deer with pride, WTW! I did that with my last two does. Good on you!!! And you are spot on with the suppressor! Before, when I went hog hunting, I could get one…maybe two. Now I can lay the lumber down on 5-6 hogs!! But that is especially cool with the deer you saw as we all know they have much better hearing. Great video. Love the trigger cam shot. I’m sure that makes hunting MUCH easier! Heckuva hunt.

Excellent, picture perfect video. Your hunt video was awesome. I think I’m going to break down and buy a scope camera like you have. In Missouri we call it, Share The Harvest and it’s a great program. I have used it a few times but most of the time I will go ahead and pay for the processing and that allows me to hand out the ground venison, steaks, deer sausage to people that I know are truly needy. Unfortunately I see way too many people lined up for free food that can easily afford to buy groceries. Keep up the great work and have a Merry Christmas.

Congratulations Adam. Did some i been want to do for awhile get deer with the 300blk. I built but pa still stand on no semi auto rifles for big game with game commission munch as state approved it..
Pa limit use to be 6mm know their allowing 22 cal for kids in older adults said might go to .224cal.
I think 300blk way been then the 223rem for deer more bullet weight in 30cal hole. I would recommend full copper or bonded bullets or solid lead cast. In 110-165gr .
As donating meat way go if u can.
Didt get out was sick for rifle skip muzzloader and archery. Late season starts after Christmas. For archery late rifle and flintlock..
Layed off of work definitely head out.

I agree with you. The 7.62X39mm is better for supersonic loads and the 300 Blackout is better as a subsonic cartridge. They will both do subsonic and supersonic loads BUT they are much better for what they were originally designed for. Supersonic absolutely produces better results on game especially at longer ranges but with precise shots subsonics can get the job done

@WHOTEEWHO You remind me a lot of my uncle! Very well respected and a very giving type of guy, who can shoot like no other (along w/ the facial expressions, speaking and hand movement when speaking) All in all a great guy.. I think donating deer meat for people who are in need of food is the most generous thing a person can do for another person, or many for that matter. Some people are (very different) when it comes to hunting their land, especially if they aren't hunting it already, themselves! The person who denied you hunting access on his property, because you're donating the meat to people in need and weren't going to eat his deer meat, is about as contradicting and odd as a person can get. That person had an opportunity to help those in need, or rather allow you to help those in need, and didn't!! Thanks for the great vids and helping others when you can!!

I'm a firm believer in passing good fortune on. Hunter for the hungry donations mostly get ground up. It seems like a honest group. I got buddies that donate. At my house we eat just as much deer as we do beef. Depending on the herd I will catch as many yrling does as I can every other yr. Then my off yrs I go after the elders. Aewsome show!

Watched Ron Spomer comparison of .300blk to .30-30 and the ballistics varied a little but not a drastic difference with supersonic rounds out of the .300blk which was surprising to see. Yes it was a tad slower then the .30-30 but not where I’d feel uncomfortable using it for deer hunting since the .30-30 is a very capable and common round for close range(100-200yd) deer hunting.

I have a 300 Blackout and a 350 Legend and I haven't taken a deer with either yet. I have 100% faith in their abilities. I've taken deer with a 44 mag rifle, 44 mag revolver and a 357 rifle and the blackout (in reasonable loads) has more energy than any of those. Obviously a different type of kill but I think for folks that aren't taking game out past 150 yards and are making well-placed shots... a 300 Blackout of an 125 gr SST or 110 gr TTX... zero hesitation.

Aa someone who regularly hunts with 300 blackout subsonic I would also not recommend it. Only if your willing to put a lot of time and money into choosing a very good bullet and testing it's expansion threshold as well as being prepared for the cartridges limitations. Not for the inexperienced.

its about shot placement. I've been hunting with 300blackout for years. never lost to deer to a 300 blackout. I've used 180 grain sierra soft points and 150 grain gold dots. gold dots are superior. I reload all my own. I hunted with a 30-06 for a long time. Where I hunt its overkill. I eventually settled on 300 black out.

I go by 800ft.lbs of energy and higher for my cut off. 1000ft.lbs for my kids however. The reason I cut off like that is to cover the oppsie factor and a lot of bullets don't expand well at lower fps. Great video but I knew you could do it with a 300BO inside 100 all day.

I kinda think that bullet energy cutoff stuff is more Fudd lore than anything

    • @tray22
      @tray22 Місяць тому

@pridemizzle1565 It can be but many bullets won't expand below a certain fps. When you fall below that speed your shot placement has to be perfect and you are likely poking a tiny hole in and not getting an exit. I have recovered bullets in that to slow scenario.

I get where’s he’s coming from. I would say it depends where you are. In high deer density areas I’m all for it. However here is central PA our population is not great. I know a few guys that fill their freezers then start giving the meat to people when they kill additional deer. They are typically the first people to complain the next year when they aren’t seeing any deer.

One thing that data doesn't fully capture is energy transfer on target. If a round zips through, how much energy is transferred to the target, and how much energy is wasted flying out the back? At the end of the day the energy that is transferred to the target is what really counts. AAC has a couple offerings that are pretty interesting, the 110gr sabre blade back tip is a round that I found to be extremely accurate, and their AAC 110gr Vmax is a little hotter and slightly less accurate I found. Thanks for the data.

The whitetail up here in Washington state seem to be A LOT bigger than the ones down south, except all the does that live in town. You should come up here next fall and get you a big whitetail.

Our saying was 1200 foot pounds at the animal and I think it’s based on the mass of the game. We have no option to take more than one deer here you get one tag and you choose either rifle or archery season to fill it. At one time you could purchase an extra tag for archery but they dream the population to be down now so only one

Did some research in my vintage deer hunting literature. Some Small calibers they used back in the day prior to WW2 for taking deer, 22 hornet, 25-20, 32-20wcf, 38-40. "Effective only in the hands of the best riflemen under favorable conditions for making a vital hit. This out of "Shots at Whitetails" author Larry Koller published 1948. Just throwing this out as hopefully useful information. I'll stick with my guns and not judge anyone else... too much. 😂

I also think the 300 black out is a bit weak for hunting, however Under 50 meters you can consider it in the same level as Archery or pistol hunting. Also you probably won't have ANY meat damage, so it's a great option if you definitely know you won't be taking shots over 50 meters.
Maybe just take a bigger Cartridge/bullet slinger along for in case the deer are standing a bit further away.

Who-Tee, I have already donated 2 deer to H2H after putting one in my freezer. I have been blessed to be on private property up here near Clarksville TN. I have been there over 20 years and the owner just asks that I take care of it like it’s my own. In my earlier days I could take 4-8 deer a season. I would put one in the freezer then one to H2H, then one for family and one to H2H, one for a friend and one to H2H. Every other deer goes to H2H for me every year.
I have been very blessed with the property and the deer I have taken off of it. I give back in my own way.
Good luck with the rest of the season. Give me a shout if you want to do some boo-lot testing with a TC Encore.
