I hope that now you realize that starting with Nightwish, you have opened the doors to an entire musical universe: After Forever, Revamp, Wintersun, Epica, Auri, now Northward... Moreover, there is also an acoustic cover of this song performed by the German singer Johannes Oerding, in the TV show Sing meinen Song 2022, where Floor was invited: ua-cam.com/video/-y1njY_iLg8/v-deo.html - this version impressed Floor to tears. This made me reevaluate the meaning of the song, because the lyrics were always there, but they were "masked" by the rock energy of the original version.
The whole album is underrated. And I'm sure this song would have charted very well in my country if it were given the chance. It would satisfy our Aussie pub rock sensibilities.
Yes you have seen Nils the vocalist for Pagans Mind in Ayreon. He was the Prophet on The Source so you would have seen him in The Day That The World Breaks Down at the very least. This isn't so much a band as a one off project, so unfortunately we will probably never get another album . Floor worked with Jorn years ago as she had written a lot of metal but had never really tried to write rock songs which was more Jorn's forte. They wrote several songs and then they just sat on a shelf for a decade. Then by happenstance Floor & Jorn both had time off between albums/tours at the same time a few years ago and finished recording & releasing them. Floor performed some of them on her Covid interrupted solo tour but I don't know of Floor & Jorn ever having performing them live together.
Floor has the Midas touch , everything she touches turns in gold. Nils k. Rue from pagans mind is on of the singers on the ayreon vídeo " the day that the world breaks down" 🤘🤘
Swing back and let me know what your radio friend said about why it wasn't played. It amazes me just how much America has missed out on because of the US Music Industry. Sometimes I need a few plays to like a song. Not this one. Banger from the get go.
Floor letting steam out - it is about the bad break-up between her and her former boyfriend. Bad one that break-up - and that lady has a little temper... The Northward album is one of my favorites - pure old school hard sweaty rock 👍
let me be bold here for a moment. Thanks to Floor's versatility, she will kick ass in every genre!!! And you, my good sir are right, Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind vocalist) is in Ayreon !!! "NORTHWARD" is an old project. Floor and Viggo created the project in 2007, writing an entire album worth of music in 2008 but being unable to record it due to label issues and their busy schedules; they ultimately reunited in 2017 to finally record the album, which was released on October 19, 2018 by Nuclear Blast. PLUS... Floor's First Solo debut album, "Paragon", is released in March 24, 2023. She released her first single "Fire" on 25 March 2022. Her second solo single, "Storm", was released on 27 May 2022. Her third solo single, "Me Without You", was released on 8 September 2022. I Highly recommend these songs to you to react ! 🤘😎🤘. NWSU.
I got the vibes from The Pretender, but also from Pink and from The Donnas (Take it off). Everything she does has a purpose. Amazing. She learned to mix with the right people, for sure!
Thank you Sir for listening to this track I suggested! I just wanted you to hear that Floor did some really good more mainstream stuff too, which makes it even more baffling to me that American stations didn't pick it up...for the "excuses" of 'to long' or 'not accessible enough' they use for Nightwish really don't hold water here...😉 Glad you liked it Sir, thank you again for taking the time for this! See you in your live stream...☺️
Awesome, was hoping you'd get to this one. Maybe an unpopular opinion, floor is amazing in everything she does in nightwish, revamp etc but this is my all time favourite of hers. Blast this full throttle down the highway in my 74 aussie charger, perfection. Love your channel dude, keep it coming.
Northward was always aimed at being a straight ahead rock album, it was so underated that it is criminal, it proves that Floor can sing a relatively simple straight rocker, Jorn is a damn fine guitarist as well, I have had the album since its release, I would listen to it more but there are not enough hours in the day and I listen to a diverse catalogue of music, this is in there at least monthly
Hi Eric, great and fun reaction. Now that you are looking in the earlier / earlier projects of Floor, a great idea would be to look into some After Forever, her first band. They where great! A great and epic one from them is "Dreamflight", Live at the progpower USA 2007. And as a bonus you get to see the young and free flowing Floor...
Great reaction - as always 😉There's actually a great accoustic version of the song from the German TV show "Sing meinen Song" (Beste Zangers, anyone?) I couldn't find the actual video from the show itself, but here's a version of it;: ua-cam.com/video/jXEKOZO5_mc/v-deo.html Regarding the solo: On the album, every solo is different with its own twist, what I found really refreshing.
Eric: "This is a really good track. I don't know what the rest of the album sounds like." Me: We should remedy that. Storm In A Glass. ua-cam.com/video/zHIodbDG7Zc/v-deo.html Another more mainstream rock type song with music video. Drifting Islands. ua-cam.com/video/qwVvfKq9koU/v-deo.html More of a progressive/ballad type song with Irene on colead vocals. No video for this one just album art. Normally that would make me hesitate to recommend it for a reactor but as you experience the music sans eyes half the time it shouldn't be as much of an issue . ;)
I concur and thank you for validating our feelings 😁 Please listen to the rest of the album even if it's just for you 👍 FYI she has a duet with Irene on the album 😉 Keep on rocking 🤘😎🎸
I could tell as soon as you closed your eyes that you were all in. Brilliant reaction-alysis as usual sir! As a side note, Jorn's solo using the wah pedal actually called to mind Henrik Linder's (Dirty Loops) bass solo in their track Follow The Light in which he DESTROYS IT while using the pedal for anyone that's interested. HL (and Dirty Loops) is genius level, btw. Cheers!
Northword was a one-of project between Floor and Jørn so we're not likely to see a repeat. However Floor's solo project is well under way with the singles "Fire", "Storm" and "Me Without You" having already been released. The full album "Paragon" will be released in March. Your radio friends need to get on this. "Fire" live on Dutch TV, ua-cam.com/video/rqwHMgo_DdQ/v-deo.html "Storm" live on Dutch TV honouring Dutch veterans: ua-cam.com/video/8dAP8Mjgh_E/v-deo.html "Me Without You" live on Dutch radio: ua-cam.com/video/vGdTeyeDMr0/v-deo.html There are music/lyric videos out for all three as well. We really need to do a Floor Jansen sample CD to circulate around, going from "Disdain" to"Let it Go" to "Phantom of the Opera" and everything in between. It won't all be radio friendly, but it will get the point across. She has even done a little bit of German rap: "Freunde" ua-cam.com/video/tKyWb1BO0mQ/v-deo.html and a bluesy "Call You Home" ua-cam.com/video/GysAe2BPBfY/v-deo.html Both are from Sing Meinen Song.
The whole northward album is probably something you'd like. From what I remember floor saying was that it's meant to be a more mainstream rock album. I don't have any songs on that album that I dont like.
Thank you Eric for reacting to this great song. Btw I follow your channel all the time, even though I don’t comment a lot. All your reactions are very good. Keep it up 👍 🫶🤘
Eric, great reaction as always. Listen to what Gabriel Bardac said below. watch the link he listed. I like both versions but Johannes version is a different ball game. Simply Beautiful!
Floor going full Rock chick was a joy. Like you I'm at a loss as why I didn't hear this earlier. The problem I think is it was just to standard to break out of the Continent and so never echoed back to the Continent. As it wasn't conventional metal enough to generate interest from their own fan base. Johannes Oerding's more singer songwriter take on it is also interesting.
There are other Pagan’s mind members active on Northward: Drummer Stian Kristoffersen and in Floor’s duet with her sister Irene in Drifting Islands: Ronny Tegner on keyboards. Unfortunately not too many videos from this album, but all interesting to listen to, specially because Floor did the writing and her lyrics are not about baby baby yeah yeah, they are about her feelings, like in this song the way she feels (after more than 10 years!) about the break up with her boyfriend (Sander, the growling guy from After Forever). Two other favorites for me: I Need and Big Boy. Maybe you can hear some SRV slides in Big Boy (but that could be just me) Best way to watch Big Boy: First a short intro by Floor and JV: ua-cam.com/video/5huRjjTTuhI/v-deo.html Then a fan made lyrical video, great lyrics! ua-cam.com/video/sksRAbtOv6w/v-deo.html
If you're in the mood for more Floor solo stuff. She released several covers from her farm in Sweden during the lockdowns. one from each of the Frozen movies for her daughter, "Alone" from Heart, a personal favorite of hers, but, "Oblivion" by M83 from one of the Mission, Impossible movies was my fave.
Emmm....Great reaction....but reminded me of another great band from Europe... Denmark to be precise.... Volbeat ..... song.....Wait A Minute My Girl.... perhaps....greetings
hi Eric. While Tuomas isn't able to write bad songs, Floor just isn't capable to perform bad ones. Everything she does is sublime. It can be Revamp, After Forever, Nightwish, or Northward like you witnessed just now. Also featurin in other productions is always a blast. See her joining Epica, Ayreo or jst anything else you can find. You will never be dissapointed. You would also not be dissapointed by listening to Nightwish again, with "Sahara", live in Tampa. A heavy track with beatifull middle eastern vibes. Totally different to everything else youve heard from them, but at the same time noticably Nightwish.
My favorite band after Nightwish is Pagan’s Mind, Eyes of fire with next to Nils K Rue (the Prophet in Ayreon’s TDTTWBD) Michael Eriksen (The Diplomat in that Ayreon piece) ua-cam.com/video/tGTpOyQAxKw/v-deo.html Through Osiris’s eyes ua-cam.com/video/kyBOY-DiGbY/v-deo.html And David Bowie seems to have stated that PM’s Hello Spaceboy was the best cover of his song….
La Cantata del Diablo (live Mexico 2017) - Mago de Öz----- > just a Master piece Hijo de la Luna - Stravaganzza Design your Universe (live Retrospect) / Cry for the Moon(live Retrospect) - Epica I remember you - Skid Row (live) Soulbound - Unleash the Archers Burning Time (live) / Dracula - Iced Earth Ategnatos / King - Eluveitie
I also thought this song had strong airplay vibes. Isn't regular airplay all about pay for play? This sounds like a cross between Foo Fighters and Green Day. IMHO A little bit of a power punk vibe. I also think the solo sounded like something Tom would play. As usual, you know your shit. Pagan's Mind is a Norwegian band. Nils the lead singer was featured as a guest vocalist in Ayreon songs such as "The Dat That The World Breaks Down". Nailed it again Eric. Be well.
Dear Eric. Its nice ti hear your comment on Northward. Here is an intervieuw with Floor. She explain the writing of the album. ua-cam.com/video/L_y0oPdT9wM/v-deo.html
I concur. Honestly, I lost interest in American radio when Napster and Limewire hit the masses. Most, if not all, the music I listen to nowadays comes from podcasts, Pandora and Spotify, etc. And none of it is played on American radio. Shame really. Lots of great bands, groups and artists all over the world that won't see the light of day on American radio.
It's a great track, but I'd almost say "20 years too late". It reminds me of alt-rock like Garbage, Soylent Green, The Tea Party, indeed, Foo Fighters, that kind of stuff. But that time has passed. Their time has passed, at least for mainstream. I'm a great Nightwish fan because somehow Tuomas is able to write timeless music. But Northward... Not so much.

Completely agree. Such a slow but very powerful version.

I concur.
The whole album is underrated. And I'm sure this song would have charted very well in my country if it were given the chance. It would satisfy our Aussie pub rock sensibilities.
Yes Eric, Nils K. Rue, vocalist of Pagan's Mind, sings on The Day That The World Breaks Down by Ayreon.
And now Floor has announced the release of her first solo album "Paragon" early next year. Already lots of pre orders.
So fun! Should have been blasting on every radio station everywhere!
thats good rockin tune as well
This is a fun album. Made for radio for sure.
I would love another Northward album.
Yes you have seen Nils the vocalist for Pagans Mind in Ayreon. He was the Prophet on The Source so you would have seen him in The Day That The World Breaks Down at the very least.

Yessss my love Floor and one of her side projects, you Must love this one.. nice to see you look for some other projects from Floor, thnxxx my friend
I concur- it’s a travesty good music like this doesn’t get the attention and airplay that it deserves in the US.
Floor letting steam out - it is about the bad break-up between her and her former boyfriend. Bad one that break-up - and that lady has a little temper...
The Northward album is one of my favorites - pure old school hard sweaty rock 👍
This is quite funny performance from Floor's side project. Excellent guitars and vocals with some angry expressions. ⛄👍
Johannes Oerding (German singer) does a cover of this song that I think you would appreciate. He really changes it a lot, without changing the lyrics.
let me be bold here for a moment. Thanks to Floor's versatility, she will kick ass in every genre!!!

Modern American rock radio is so depressing for me, and I only opened my eyes and ears to what I was missing out on all these years.
This is super catchy, meaningful, Jorn killing it on the guitar & Floor’s rockin it!
An awesome duo!

First time hearing this different but looks good on floor, she must have done this while with nightwish she got tattoos God bless
Yes. Nils Rue (vocalist in Pagan's Mind") was in " The day when world breaks down"
Great reaction - as always 😉There's actually a great accoustic version of the song from the German TV show "Sing meinen Song" (Beste Zangers, anyone?) I couldn't find the actual video from the show itself, but here's a version of it;: ua-cam.com/video/jXEKOZO5_mc/v-deo.html

Wow love the reaction. Jep pure z rock......
Nobody, I mean nobody, is a more dynamic performer than this woman. Did I say the last 100 years? LOL
Eric: "This is a really good track. I don't know what the rest of the album sounds like."

"Big Boy" is my fav
Northward is another track I like.
I said this to you a while back eric.
This album is a radio friendly bunch of rock songs.
How it passed radio by. 🤷♂️
I concur and thank you for validating our feelings 😁 Please listen to the rest of the album even if it's just for you 👍

Great and wonderful solo.Reminds me to Satriani/Morello
Eric, great reaction as always. Listen to what Gabriel Bardac said below. watch the link he listed. I like both versions but Johannes version is a different ball game. Simply Beautiful!
You mentioned Pagans Mind. The Day the World Breaks Down had Nils K Rue as one of the vocalists who is The vocalist for Pagans Mind.
Floor going full Rock chick was a joy. Like you I'm at a loss as why I didn't hear this earlier. And David Bowie seems to have stated that PM’s Hello Spaceboy was the best cover of his song….

Thank you✌️🤘
This is a great album. Definitely a Foo Fighters and Tom Morello sound to it too which as you say is not a bad thing.
Nils K Rue is the prophet in TDTTWBD!
Almost Foo Fighter vibe. Cool
Listen to Nightwish 10th man down 2018 buenos aries..it has a good message and Marco and Emppu rock out !!
La Cantata del Diablo (live Mexico 2017) - Mago de Öz----- > just a Master piece
Hijo de la Luna - Stravaganzza
Design your Universe (live Retrospect) / Cry for the Moon(live Retrospect) - Epica
I remember you - Skid Row (live)

Floor makes every bands songs better.
She has other awesome collabs too.
Dear Eric. Its nice ti hear your comment on Northward. Here is an intervieuw with Floor. She explain the writing of the album.

Great performance. America really does sleep on a lot of great artists and songs, unfortunately.
For me this has strong Joan Jett vibes, with the punkish hard rock feel, but I can see Janis Joplin too. Anyone with double J, it seems!
This is a great driving track. The whole album is fun. Nothing Floor does is mediocre.
Welcome to the rabbit hole listen to floor with nightwish and epica
Eric, It Is European.... that is one of the reasons why America and Europe do not gel in the music.
Did you watch the Earrings in ‘75 San Francisco yet?
Bucket list material buddy
Winterland it’s on YT.
Basically a rocking Simonand Garfunkel
I found the guitar solo a bit too much exaggerated. Could have been a little shorter. Too much with the foot pedal. I don't like the tone.
