Despite all the criticism she got (following in Tarja Turunen's footsteps is not an easy job) she absolutely owns this track, and Scaretale too. I still think Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerium are their best albums. And her voice in a studio setting plays a big part in that.
I concur!
So true, not easy to be ready replacement for original lead vocalist. No matter what band is in that position.
The big problem was that on the one hand you have an excellent studio singer and on the other hand you have the best live band. That just can't work in the long run.
Don't forget Meadows of Heaven
@@jacquisampson-marat5277 yeah I wish we had proper live recordings of Meadows of Heaven, the camera footage out there sounds like it was probably a really good performance (and I love the studio version, again with a Pink Floyd vibe in places).
This song really shows how versatile Tuomas and entourage are when it comes to their music, they can go from the heaviest metal songs to the softest, most captivating jazz songs, this little gem is quite unique
Right??? You just never know what you’re getting with these folks…other than GOOD.
It's why I always say Nightwish are their own genre
Anettes mother was a singer in a jazzband when Anette was young, so many years before she joined Nightwish she did sing jazz with her mother. I think this is Tuomas tribute to Anettes jazzera, one of his best songs written to her. It was also Kai Hahto who tought Jukka to play jazzdrums, because Kai did also play drums in a jazzband.
Tuomas is a definite gift for humanity.
You should certainly see the movie.
I have to say, this is one of the very few live Anette songs that I can listen to without cringing.
This and Scaretale are my favorite Annette songs. It is really amazing how well they pull off that jazz groove.
One of my favorite Annette performances
Cant`t stop smiling. Man how much I love Nightwish, and Emppu, he always makes my soul happy and joyful
Smooth and jazzy Emppu makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Thank you Eric ❤
Thanks to all whom requested this 🤘🤘
Hi luv❤
I bet Emppu can be on stage and play only ONE note....and you melt away......🤣🤣🤣
@@HCH944just being there and smiling should do it 🫠😂😂
Lol HCH and Little Raven on the replys to Tria ... I Am blessed to be a part of the special group known as the " I Concur Army " aka : The Concurpas !!!
Three cheers Tria ... I may not get all warm and fuzzy from this but everytime I play it at home ... I just close my eyes , listen with enjoyment and amazement while I fall into total relaxation .
@@ConcurpaRich to quote queen Doro: We are here, here we are....quote end.....
Empuu gently kissed strings of his guitar, at least on the softer part. That’s all I could think of to descibe his solo. He is amazing! 😊
This is one of Anette's best performances. No one sings this one better🔥
My favourite songs with her are "Escapist" and "The Crow, the Owl and the Dove"
Though Floor did an amazing version of this during her solo show in Amsterdam. I also love it how in the beginning she joked how this is one of the "heaviest" song Nightwish ever made😆
The Meadows of Heaven from Hartwall Areena is also good but I don't know if there is any better video than this mobile one - ua-cam.com/video/iRCJ-WVJGWE/v-deo.html
I mean metal band doing jazz. That is something everyone can't do either. 😂😂❤
I like your T-shirt👍😍
Yes, Imaginaerum tour. It's track 4 on the album, between Ghost River and I Want My Tears Back. The only jazz like Nightwish song. Love this version. IMO, one of the best live videos with Anette. She does have jazz in her background. Kai also has jazz in his background, he helped Jukka out with the style. I agree, Emppu is so smooth on the solo.
I remember MASH, great show. Iirc, Col. Potter liked Scotch.
Yes a reaction to a song featuring Anette. This song and her vocals go very good together. Meadows of Heaven is one of my favorite Nightwish songs and she is great on that track.
I concur !
I concur
@ERIC: may be tissue warning !!!!
One of my favs sung by Anette
It didn't suck. It never can. ❤
This was a good tune for Annette and Empu's tone was right on as always.
This is one of the best Anette era songs. Also Meadows of Heaven is good by Anette
I concur! Also Eva❤
I Love this track. Thanks Eric. Emppu is "Silence guitar GOD" as long as he smiles everything is as everything should be.;).
More proof of Masters of their Craft and the Genius of Nightwish that can play ANY genre of music - and another reason Tuomas , Emppu , Jukka , and Marko are on my Mt. RUSHMORE of composers/keyboardists , Lead Guitarists , Drummers and Bass Guitarists . Anette was perfect for this tune and she was underrated imho . When I first saw this over 10 yrs ago I was amazed more than I already was with this special Group. Thank you for doing this Eric and thank you to the Concurpas whom suggested this .😢😢
I wish we could just wipe your memory and have you watch all Nightwish videos again for the first time. Your smart, knowledgeable, insightful comments are easily among the best, as far as NW reactions are concerned.
I think this is Anette's best live vocal performance.
My favourite performance of this.
Suits Anette perfectly; Jukka brushing the skins; great videography, particularly of Troy's pipes.
And more evidence that Emppu can play any style he chooses
I love it.
Thanks Aeric, as usual
Anette shines in this performance, as she does in Scaretale (she's even better in that one). In case you haven't done that one Eric, can I suggest it for Halloween 🎃🖤 ?
I concur
But I still prefer Meadows of Heaven from her........
I concur to the Halloween reaction
I concur
anette era coming they best song meadows of heaven and this gem. nighwish is lucky, they have 3 strong era they history. thanx to great reaction and have wonderful new week.
Mobile, AL resident here. Love this jazzy sound from Nightwish. We go to New Orleans for Jazz Fest. Such a great festival!
There is a video of Floor doing this song just 12 days after she got called to replace Anette.
Nightwish - Slow Love Slow - Fort Lauderdale - 10.13.12
Haha, Nightwish as a jazz band. Great performance, and one of the Anette's best (despite the silly hat). Floor has done this on her solo tours.
Nightwish Jazzy Song. I think I read somewhere Annette is a trained as a Jazz Singer.
Thank you again for your versatile reaction choices, this was actually new to me - and I´m a long time Nightwish fan!?! And like always, your views were on point: Tuomas´s composition, excellent work of Annette and Emppu. And you are right about soulful guitarist Emppu, he is not only just playing what Tuomas throws at him, he also works his parts forward with his signature style (and of course with his signature smirks).
An excellent live performance from Anette. Emppu is awesome! Great analysis as always.
Amazing performance, thank you for great reaction like always 🤘🤘😊😊❤❤🔥🔥
The Imaginaerum movie to where the album by the same name was made, is so touching.
Emmpu Rocks It.
love this one! anette shines. marko and his beast bass breathe metal and yet he's so good with his voice & sound for this smooth jazz piece. tuomas and jukka's groove, i could listen to all day. emppu makes my soul resonate ❤ if you're interested in another nightwish 'departure', please consider harvest, from human:||:nature ua-cam.com/video/Xy29T7LBM_I/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared troy as the main vocalist. interesting message following where the greatest show on earth left off. since my very 1st listen many many many moons ago i've said nightwish are 'something new that sounds familiar'. harvest is stylistically unique, but when nightwish's SOUND kicks in, for the first time ever i thought 'it sounds like nightwish' instead of 'it sounds like something'. hope i'm making sense 😅 great song. there's a troy-emppu-tuomas thing going on that reminds me of i want my tears back, not that they sound alike, i mean in the mood. hope you enjoy, you always give such good reactions and have interesting things to say!!
Dear Eric! I'm (not) writing to you first time. I apprisiate your reaction videos highly and I am happy that you have covered most of recuested NW songs. BUT, one is missing and with that all. Please see 'Dead gardens' and react to that. I would so much like to see how you like it, especially the end. Yours truly.
i concur! good pick 😄 old school nightwish, always brings me back. here's a link ua-cam.com/video/ZaiOYSwlFP8/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared one word: TONE 😜
Good and deep analysis ....I think you found so many points and explained well. They all did awesome job here...I specially like guitar style and sound here and Anette sings so well too this style - seems easy but is not. A different versatile NW amazes again.
It's pretty amazing to see how little they all do but we still get so much, if that makes any sense. / B.
Man you are really a great speaker, one can hear a life of experience with the mic. And the picture of Floor next to your wife gets me every time😢
Incredible! As a matter of fact this was a first time for me as well. Super.
Lived in New Orleans from 1996 until Katrina in 2005, and the New Orleans Jazz Fest was my favorite big event to attend! I always went to the Gospel Tent. Not only did you hear gospel music, but also some of the older musicians playing music just like this song by Nightwish.
The was also one of the stages that mainly played old "Robert Johnson" songs. It inspired my friend and to go to Midwestern Mississippi following the Blues Trail. We also went to a small town of Itta Bena, Missippi, went south and after driving for while there was a fork in the road where a church was,, and A small Monument was there saying it was where he was buried! We left him a pint size bottle of Moonshine for him! We stopped into a small restaurant and had some of the best red beans and rice I have ever tasted! The music was even better!
Dude... sorry I missed this reaction!
I've been a Nightwish fan for a handful of years but had only heard the instrumental version (which is fabulous in it's own right). What an amazing performance, by every member!
Loved seeing Jukka again.
As has come to be expected, Emppu really strokes it beautifully. What a wizard.
This is just a FANTASTIC masterpiece (hmm proberly said that many times 😅). The mood, the tempo, the jazzwibe... Everything is perfect and extremely well written. Anette fits in PERFECTLY here og Jukka is still playing his drums beautifully. I'm overwhelmed every time I hear it and I just play it over and over again. That "backing" track Tuomas is setting here is in your head for the rest of the day.
I remember the first time I heard the song my reaction was "WOW". Having listen to it many many times since my reaction is still "WOW" ♥️♥️🎙️🎸🥁🎼🎹
There is a lovely version from Ft Lauderdale also with Floor right after she joined them .Recommened.
Imagine what happened to us who put the new album in 2011 and after 3 songs this starts to sound... jawdropper song 😅
If you haven't seen the movie featuring this album (i think the same name as the album) definitely check it out.
A little hidden jewel from nightwish is The Heart Ask Pleasure First. Anette shines there (for me she always shines, to be fair)
By the way, you have not done ”Endless forms most beautiful” from Tampere 2015. It is a happy tune with Emppu ”The menace/Puck” bringing his turmoil into the game!
One of my very favorite NW tracks and might be Anette's one Floor-proof song (especially the studio version)... and Floor does it really well. And you are right - it IS an interlude, sitting betwen Ghost River and I Want My Tears Back.
She does a really good job with this song. I’m not going to go into the reasons I’m not crazy about her live. But she kills this song.
I knew you'd dig this one, I've been waiting for it to come up. You didn't disappoint 👌
❤
Emppu!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great reaction. Could you do Nightwish: Harvest please
similar to the Pink Floyd cover, Nightwish shows that they are in general extraordinary musicians who get the point of something (in this case of another genre) and are able to play it in an own/iconic way. And while Floor is on another level compared to Tarja and Anette, Anette shows here and in other songs like Scaretale, who fit better to here voice, that she is not the worse one of the three but on par with Tarja, maybe even slightly better. Tarja has thanks to her iconic operatic voice (which can be addicting if the soing fits and she stays in her comfy zone) a greater WOW effect for most people. An operatic voice has still a better reputation than a pop voice, even a jazz voice, genres which fit better to Anette. And additionally Nightwish creates also more a sound which fits less to a pop voice. But if one just listen to their (Anette's and Tarja's) voice ability and technical singing then there is no reason to place Anette as the worse of the three - as she often unfairly appears for the given reaons. Apart from that, as said, both, Tarja's and Anette's voices are very depending on the right song and genre.
Good analysis.
Doesn't surprise me that Tuomas can write Jazz, or transpose Symphonic Metal to Jazz.
I think its great they played a Jazz festival. Im thinking they did some other songs accoustically and maybe paced a bit slower to fit the festival. Would be interesting to see some other ones from the same event.
floor jansen sings this to!
You should react to Floor Slow love slow Live Antverpen
And you should realice that Floor is one of the greatest performer just now
I concur! But I think you mean live in Amsterdam... (I just looked on YT but there is no version live in Antwerpen)😉
@@metermannen559 Ahh Off course 🙂👍
Love this song, though my favorite Anette song that Floor hasn't claimed yet would have to be Turn Loose the Mermaids.
🤘🏻🤘🏻
I recommend '7 days to the wolfes' if you haven't checked that out. Insanely good pyro, rhythm changes and Floor being the most commanding person on Earth. Plus Tuomas' brilliant writing. Masterpiece.
Great informative, satisfying watch. Now, for some comparison (even if you don’t react) check out Floor doing this song. For me this is one of only two songs from previous vocalists, that Floor performed live with the band later, in which she doesn’t blow the previous version out of the water. Not because she doesn’t absolutely kill it, but because Annette did as well.
I'd like Tuomas to do jazz album.
Anette absolutely shines in this performance! By the way have you heard a Nightwish song called Fantasmic part III? Best version is from Tampere Pakkahuone. 😄
Great reaction to a very unlikely song produced by this band. Annette I feel sang this 💩out of it yet cool calm and right for the what the song affects. And being such a blues style vibe was showing such style range the band can offer to any listener. Yet never would think this band could rock your face off. Very talented band without a doubt! So I gotta question for ya regarding Emppuu. Obviously watching your reactions to Nightwish, where would you fit him as guitarist out there past and present? You may have mentioned your thoughts along the that I may not heard from you being an encyclopedia of music knowledge. I find him so underrated or never mentioned by the industry.
We always say Anette is more pop but she could've done jazz.
This song fit her vocals like a comfy pair of jeans!!! I love how Tuomas got to create songs outside of the metal genre and Anette's vocals fit those songs perfectly!
I was listening to Bessie Smith just last night, so that reference brought a grin from me. I've felt Anette would be better in Jazz fulltime. I say that with respect because I loved her in Nightwish. Would not trade those two albums for anything. But I think her talents are suited more for pop and possibly even more so for jazz. She also does not have the metal personality Floor has. Different spirit. You never will get the feeling metal is something Floor puts on and takes off like a costume. It is in her blood and bones. I believe pop is a costume for Floor and her solo album was probably quite an adventure for her. This comment is not a criticism of Anette (or Floor) at all and is just, like my opinion man.
I prefer most NW live; however, this song is best on the studio version
Love ya Eric, but at my age, life is too short, so I am only watching Nighwish (with Floor) video reactions now
I dislike Annette in nightwish ... but mostly because I missed Tarja, and do not think Annette fit the kind of nightwish I like, and was not always great in lives.
But when she's in a setting/song that fits her, I have nothing bad to say. She is great.
Anette's live vocals were never great - her studio work was better - but this is about as good as she gets live. I like the softness and the groove of this song - the whole band is in sync in the groove. Emmpu rocks!
Here's a challenge for you. Star Trek Strange New Worlds series 2 episode 9 'subspace rhapsody'. Thank me later. you would be a fool to pass on it.
This is what Annette did well, but it's not what Nightwish are.
write..write..write...but what are you writing? listen it's not difficult listen and concentrate writing is bullshit and is of no use if you are a music connoisseur
In my opinion, Anette's best live performance ever. However, I can only speak of 'good' if I disregard Floor's solo performance.
Of course, Floor is on a whole other level.
