2004 Crown Vic civilian model 161K MIles.

@@PanzerPlatform thanks for letting me know. I have a question though? I have a 2003 mercury grand marquis is there still a valid recall for this issue? I've heard a lot about it and even went to the nhtsa website and can't find anything about my particular vin/vehicle ever even being serviced for it. I know I'm just a random guy on UA-cam, I just found it strange and wonder if this is common? The lcm recall?

The recall is still ongoing to my knowledge.
I get letters for my 2004 Vic every year.
The Recall Number is 15S39.

You don't know how right you are (adding resistors are a pain).
In my research, I did find a way to fix the hyper flashing without adding a resistor.
Vehicle's like the F-150 simply replace the stock flasher relay with one of a different spec, like this one called the "Novita EP27" for ($15);

However, on a Panther Vehicle after installing the EP27 Flasher, it requires cutting, and connecting a few wires in the LCM. And, I'm not exactly enthused about modifying the LCM. Especially since, my '04 is still on the original LCM, and I still haven't had the recall performed, (I don't want the recall performed until I actually have an issue with it. Sorry for making you read all this garbage.

If you want to fix the hyper-flash there may be an easier way to fix it than adding resistors.
It's called replacing the flasher relay with an LED compliant flasher.
I'm not familiar with T-Birds. If they use a Lighting Control Module this video may be helpful;

I went Zevo crazy on my car, 2011 Crown Vic, the interior feels like a
much newer car simply from the different light temperature and the fact
that they are are MUCH brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs. As
for the turn signals and brake lights, the improvement is very
noticeable. Take this with a grain of salt as results may vary based on
the lens and reflector of the housing you're replacing the bulb for.
Overall, these are worth the cost and considering their warranty, I
haven't found better. Only warning is to make sure you can locate your
factory turn signal relay so you can either replace it or bypass it with
an LED compliant flasher module. If your electrical system had all
incandescent to start with, it is expecting the resistance of
incandescent bulbs. Switching to all LEDs will trigger the hyper flash
of your turn signals which normally signals a burnt out bulb. This may
vary but will most likely be the case.

That is an excellent question.
One of the most difficult things about upgrading factory halogen turn signal bulbs with LED is the difference between the "low brightness", and the "high brightness" especially during daytime conditions.
I'm pleased to report these quality Sylvania Zevo's tick all the boxes, in all the categories.
They are my most favorite LED bulb in terms of longevity, brightness, and price.
However, they do not work in all vehicle's reflector housings.
This is because there are so many different variations that car manufacturer's use to "style" their turn signal assemblies. So unfortunately these "bulbs" fall into the same category as all other LED bulbs in the terms of "buy & try".
So I only recommend buying LED bulbs from a trusted retailer that has a no hassle, no restocking fee, free return policy. Based on this most all my bulbs come from Amazon (30 day return period), and Walmart (90 return period).
Ebay, and local auto parts stores, or "premium" LED retailers like diode dynamics, or lasfit DO NOT have a no hassle return policy.
So choose wisely.

I just installed these bulbs in my 99lx. I accidently created sequential tailights lol. I forgot there is two tail light bulbs per side and i only bought one two pack of Sylvania led bulbs. So i just installed one new LED bulb on each side. Now the faster reacting led bulb pops on first then the original comes on second. Lol

Important note: If you put LED bulbs in the 3rd brake light (CHMSL), you will likely be unable to use your cruise control or remote starter if you have one installed. This happened to me.
The problem is that the cruise control detects if the brake lights are on in a certain way that only works with incandescent bulbs. When you put in LEDs with significantly less resistance, the cruise thinks the brake lights are always on. (This does not affect the use of the actual brake light though). And most aftermarket remote starters, like mine, are wired in this same circuit to sense if the brake lights are on (to prevent theft while the car is running). Theoretically you may be able to solve it with resistors but I never tried.
I had to put back the original bulbs in my 3rd brake light to get cruise and remote start back. But my other brake lights and turn signals are still LED with an LED flasher spliced in between the LCM (I didn't want resistors) and there are no other problems.
As you said, the Sylvania ZEVO bulbs are the best for this application.

It's my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. It probably applies to all 92-11 Panthers. Ford even has a TSB for Panther cars stating that LED brake lights could interfere with cruise and aftermarket remote starters. See here: i.imgur.com/eWBl14f.png

I learned my lesson not to quote colored wires because they can differ from year to year.
I recommend you have a basic understanding of electrical before you attempt adding resistors to prevent hyperflash.
You just need to connect the resistor in parallel to the circuit for each turn signal bulb.
I apologize if that's vauge, and confusing. But it's the simplest way to describe how it works. And you'll need to do a little more research to determine what will work for your application.

Chuck do you happen to have an infrared thermometer? I'm curious how hot those resistors get. I think you are 100% right about mounting to the metal that has helped with the heat. thanks
I do, let me see what I can come up with.
However, I checked the heat of the resistor with my hand when I installed them, and there was no heat.
I don't think it's an issue because how long do you have your turn signal engaged? 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute?
I think heat malfunctions may have come from installation error by installin the resistor on the "contant" power wire of the parking lamp circuit, instead on the turn signal circuit that flashes, only when engaged.
Also I no longer recomend the use of resistors anyway.

Yes, and no.
Some Fords like F-150 you can pop out the flasher relay from the fuse box under the dash, and replace it with an LED compliant flasher to correct hyperflash.
Unfortunately all Panther cars 1992-2011 the flasher relay is soldered inside the LCM (lighting control module).
But there is a way to bypass it.

Instead of drilling into the sheet metal in the trunk would it be possible to wrap the resistors in electrical tape to disperse the heat and just have the resistors hanging down in there underneath the trunk carpet?

Based on my experience with these little guys, and depending on the varying applications of different vehicles these resistors may get hot enough to melt through any electrical tape.
Here are the instructions from the manufacturer;
"EASY TO MOUNT: Simply attach the SYLVANIA load equalizer to a flat metal surface for proper heat transfer, then attach wires to those of socket with provided clips."
From my understanding the resistor must be attached to a flat metal surface, otherwise it will be unable to dissipate all its heat, and may even fail prematurely.
I understand you do not want to drill holes in your trunk. This is why I no longer recommend this method of fixing the hyper-flash issue.

That is very true, but it depends on model year.
My Vic is a 2004, and my Grand Marquis is a 2010.
I have LED's in both third brake lights, and both cruise controls function properly.
If I remember correctly it's the older model years.
I wanna say 1998-2002, or maybe even older.
I usually advise to buy LED bulbs from retailers that do not charge a re-stocking fee for returns for a bulb that does not function properly.
That usually means Walmart, or Amazon in my location.
I've had push back trying to return LED bulbs from ebay, AutoZone, O'Reilly, and Napa.
When I'm converting halogen, to LED I want to be able to do it hassle free, and at no risk of being stuck with a bulb that will not work for my application.

When u installed sylvania - load equalizer resistors to the tail lights, was it enough to have one pair of the resistors to stop the hyperflash?
Or do we need another pair for the front as well to get rid of the hyperflash completely?
I feel like one pair of 50 6ohms of the sylvania resistors or any of the resistors will be enough to get rid of the hyperflash by mounting them either front OR rear turn signals.
It depends on the vehicle.
My car needed 1 resistor per LED bulb.
@@PanzerPlatform I see. I’m guessing that putting them on older vehicles that doesn’t have high tech or more tech on a vehicle would possibly require more resistors. But low tech or basic vehicle that doesn’t have lots of tech. Maybe and hopefully this should be enough for a pair.

They should of also make these as a plug and play version. Meaning like a resistors with connectors of 3157,1156/1157,7443,7440.
That would of been a true plug and play, if sylvania makes them.
But it still great to have those T-tabs that u can sandwich them together and get rid of the hyperflash. Rather than cut and splice the wires together.

The purpose of hypeflash is to indicate a malfunction when a turn signal, or tail light bulb is burned out.
If it's always hyperflashing, it will make it difficult to tell when you have a real malfunction.
Also, since hyperflash indicates a burned out turn signal, or stop light bulb it gives law enforcement probable cause to initiate a traffic stop.

@@PanzerPlatform absolutely! That thought did cross my mind as far as the law enforcement aspect of it. It wouldn’t really bother me because I’m a good law abiding citizen and I could just explain that they are LEDs, but in the state of Virginia you will be failed on inspection if you have LED bulbs in an incandescent housing. That being said an officer who knows his traffic laws might be able to citate me. I’m no stranger to electrical work as I am quite the audio enthusiast and amateur radio enthusiast so I might as well just put these resistors in I guess.
I have got to say though, the LEDs look amazing in your crown Vic. What year is it? I drive a 2005 Ford 500 (the crown Vic’s chubbier cousin IMO) and I love my car to death. I’m going to drive that thing until it blows up. I have been thinking about getting a second car, and trying to find a crown Victoria that’s been owned by old people who took good care of it. Vic’s are awesome cars!

Did you experience hyper flash when you installed the LED bulbs? or was it something that happened over time? I just installed the LED bulbs with no resistors and there's no hyper flashing. thinking of returning the resistors. could use the $30 for LED amber turn signals instead.

I tried to utilize your setup on my 2011 CVPI. With the resistors installed I still had hyperflash on my turn signals. If I removed the led brake bulb and replaced it with the halogen, the hyperflash went away. I thought it might be a defective resistor so I used the same one on the passenger side rear turn signal. Same result if the halogen bulb wasn't installed in the brake light. On my 2011 the wires have the same color code designation. Orange for blinker, black for ground and brown for brake. No idea what I'm doing wrong.

You need one resistor per bulb.
For the rear, there are four bulbs, you need four resistors.

But after repeated attempts to get the brake light to stop hyperflashing (checking over my work to make sure everything was wired correctly) I ended up removing the LED bulb from the brake light and replacing it with the original halogen. The turn signal still has it's resistor and LED bulb and everything works fine.

Also what bulbs do you have in the front turn signals, (LED or Halogen)?
I forgot to mention those will have an effect on the rear turn signals.
@@PanzerPlatform I now have rear turn signals operating properly without hyperflash (as long as I have halogens in the brake lights). If I try to put LED in the brake light I get hyperflash. I also thought of what you're suggesting in regards to the front turn signals. I will get hyperflash in the front and rear ONLY when an LED is installed in the rear brake light. When it's halogen there is no hyperflash in either the front turn signals nor the rear. I have these Sylvania Zevo LED 3157R (the same as in your video). I have no explanation for it. It doesn't make any sense, it should work.

What brand of resistors are you using?
The sylvania, or the no brand name from amazon, or ebay.
Do you know how to use a multimeter?
I would measure the resistance of each resistor to make sure each one is 6 ohms.
Another possibility is you attached the resistor to the wrong wire.
You need to attached the resistors on the + positive wire for the turn signal bulb circuit.
If you installed the resistor on the + positive wire for the parking lamp circuit, the resistors will have no effect.
Have you had any problems at all ? Do you need to add resistors when swapping over the interior lights to leds ?

All I can say is;

Everyone has a different skill level.

The bulbs I recommend for the center high mounted third brake light is the Sylvania Zevo 168 RED.
Your third brake light fixture takes two bulbs.

You need a resistor for every turn signal bulb you replace with an LED, (6 total, 2 front, 4 rear).
I no longer recomend using resistors to fix hyperflash.
I recomend using a single Electronic LED Compliant flasher as seen here; ua-cam.com/video/njQoWTsfBuk/v-deo.html

Not sure what you're talking about.
Please do your research, and know what you're doing. Read the instructions for the resistors.
If you make an electrical mistake you can start a fire, and burn your car down.

To answer your question;
No, I've never worried about them starting a fire.
I've been running this set up in my '04 Vic since 2012 and my '10 Grand Marquis since 2018, and have not seen any signs of overheating.
I believe that is due to the quality Sylvania Brand Name resistors, and having them mounted directly to the car's sheet metal to dissipate heat properly.

there is another option is.... change out ur FLASHER UNIT that is made for LED's i did that on my 95 aerostar with all LEDS all around it got rid of the highper flash and "NO RESISTERS" too

These cars do not use a replaceable flasher relay.
They use a Lighting Control Module (LCM).
So it's just a little more difficult, to install an LED compliant flasher relay.
