They definitely are “goat ninjas” when they are at a certain age. I’m glad you mentioned this, I heard at the beginning of my goat education that in order for goats to thrive they need friends to not get lonely and to have a strong pack. I didn’t think about how this would be similar when introducing new babies to the herd. I was planning on eventually getting a buck for breeding with my females and probably getting him young, it makes sense that I should probably get two new guys instead so that they have advocates for each other when the pecking order begins to establish.
    Thanks Marc

Yes definitely never have one lone Buck by himself he will get very lonely. I have 2 to keep each other company, plus they when it's freezing they cuddle and they also need a partner for head-butting each other! They find it fun to me would only give me a giant headache😂

It also helps if you have a herd already to keep and eye out for a “nana”goat, those that love all babies, even if they are old, lame, half blind and can barely walk. They serve important rolls in the herd. I have to explain to a lot of people who didn’t grow up with animals that they can do other things to benefit the group other than produce.

Great advice! Yep today I saw little babies flying through the year from the Queen do demonstrating her matriarchal superiority. Yep they seemed very mean to each other but I guess it's just their own goat language!😊 thanks again for the great advice I like the idea of having the little entryway that only the babies can access. Great idea!

Thanks for posting this, I needed this advice. My first babies hit the ground early spring -- just a blink away! I'll keep an eye out for the scooting ninja stage.

When you said that some goats that are brought in as singles are kind socially awkward and i completely understand that. I have a doe who i got in a group of four but i’m pretty sore she was a bottle baby. She never stays with the herd. She stays in the small pen while everyone grazes and stays off in the back while everyone is eating until it’s her turn. She still very sweet but isn’t normal.

When do you start giving your goat kids the kid starter grain?

I bought two 10 week doelings a month ago, they are doing great. the breeder called me the other day and said she had a rejected doeling and would I like to take on bottle raising it. Free goat, cute baby, so I said sure. the doeling is 6 days old and I'm already wondering how to integrate it with my 3 month olds. Right now I have her in the goat pen, but in her own kennel, so everyone can sniff hello but the older girls can't hurt the baby. When I go to do the bottle feeding I let her out for exercise and get supervised time with the older girls. The baby seems to know that she needs to run away when they come at her, but she's not quick enough to avoid all the head butts. Not sure how long it will take the baby to get fast enough for me to feel she's safe in the big goat pen. I'm hoping the two older doelings will eventually let her into their friendship, but maybe she's destined to being that weirdo goat without any friends :(. Anything else I should be doing?

No you are doing good, but she will likely be the weirdo with no friends. Anyway you can get a buddy for her from the other place? Like age buddy is big for a goat.

What's the best saddle and panniers for small pack goats like a nigerian dwarf? I have a young wether who I think would be great at light packing, but I'm unsure what would be best for his size.

Corners are extremely dangerous. Lost one baby goat in the night cuz he jumped into the lead goats cabin. That was a 1.5m high obstacle.

Okay so i’m relatively new to goats… My buckling is around 2 weeks old and I just got a 3 month old doeling. Is it too risky to have them together? Should I have some sort of fencing in between them so they can get accustomed to eachother? I’m mainly concerned about injures that can be inflicted on the little buckling.

Just so you know a female goat can get pregnant at about four months old and a buck can mate at 8 weeks old. The reason I know this is because it happened to me. I figured they were both babies and next thing you know my doe is pregnant at 4 months old by the two month old male.

@@vikingmountainranchlife7447 Thank you! I completely forgot I made this comment lol. I ended up getting him a wether. They are in separate pastures on different sides of the property
