  • There is a lot of Christian content out there that teaches us how to defend the faith. And though I think that is important, we need more Christian content that teaches us how to listen. This is my feeble attempt at listening. I hope and pray you seek to understand before listening to respond.

As a Christian myself who is coming back to the faith and trying to find my space , I have a lot of compassion for people who leave the faith because it is definitely not an easy decision but one thing I know is that we are told not to judge others and intimidate people by preaching their demise and how they will be going to hell, that is not the Gospel. God Loves You Regardless and the Faith can be difficult to navigate. This is a season in his life where he feels he needs to be away from the faith, all we can do and should do is send him with love and grace instead of trying to hold him hostage, Jesus does not want you to follow him by force. Thank you for this beautiful conversation. ❤ Joseph I send you all my love, irrespective of how it causes confusion in me, go well please, this is your journey. Thank you for the time you stayed with us, it mattered and still does. ❤

He doesn't have any wisdom. He's not there yet. I'm barely there, but you gotta know where you are, and have the ability to recognize where someone else is, before you go off saying they're wise. That's wild. Potentially damaging.

I love the evolution though some may see it as a falling away. I would love to see Joe analyze these concepts from the perspective of how Greek philosophy has influenced biblical interpretation… the duality he mentions largely comes from Socrates. And I think that is the crux of questioning

For years I was on the fence about the bible, but I believed in God. Last year my best friend passed away and I took up an interest in foraging and harvesting wild edible mushrooms to take my mind off of it (not magic ones lol). As I learned about the complexities of fungi and their relationships to trees/interconnectivity, I realized that I know nothing. I am a spec.
Our experience and perception of everything in this world is through a very small 'human' lens that can block our field of vision and distort the things we see. In other words, we really know very little of this world or anything at all; yet, our egos tell us otherwise. Who am I to deny God? Who am I to deny Jesus being the son of God? Through His creation (nature), I came to know that He exists and He is beyond our comprehension.
I've accepted the bible as truth and I'm seeing the world in a different way. I also see myself in a different way. It has been life-changing and I'm always thankful and think of this every time I go foraging. God is good!

When I think about the interconnectedness of everything, literally everything around us and within us. It's amazing. I really believe God is like a super genius creative scientist, lol... I know He is so much more than we can comprehend or explain, but the way science works and the beauty in all of creation, it makes me in awe!

Wow! I left Christianity about 5/6 years ago and I remember when I began losing my faith I would go and look at him perform Doubt Your Doubts and no matter how many times I tried to listen to it and hold on I just couldn’t but I also had a healthy transition from it just as he has. I don’t knock anyone that still believes but that’s not the space I’m in anymore and I wish people could just respect that💙

This support is misplaced. It's not like we want to see him fall but you still have to know why he's struggling before you can just say that you support him. Whatever his struggle is will just be his eventual testimony. Not everything he does, or claims will be his next step going forward will get approval by god. You have to understand the word for yourself whether Joe likes it, or not. A real friend doesn't support you moving away from something just because you question it, especially before they get an answer why, let alone have a conversation about it. This kind of support comes off as if you're trying to appeal to him as being his friend rather than just being his friend. You're avoiding the question of whether Christianity is actually good, or bad. That's what he's questioning at this moment in time. He's not asking for your support. He should and you should already know that he has all our support.

I didn't watch till the end but yes I actually have convinced a lot of people with my comments on social media posts to consider Christ as king from all kinds of debates. Be it history, science, politics. you name it. Just 2 months ago it was a debate with someone about whether the Noah's flood made any sense or was the leading supposed cause for the extinction of ancient giant animals, and I won the hearts and attention of the people through representing Christ god and the bible. My intent was to represent god on a TV show ad for curiosity stream because Christian or biblical views are so vastly underrepresented in those areas which is not fair, or wholistic. Obviously a non believer could not resist the opportunity to shame me for thumping the bible, it became a back n forth swiftly to be ended by people supporting my logical victory after comparatively reading all of our the comments. It actually worked. And it's something that you can go and see what we said and how people responded to it all right now on curiosity stream's Instagram page.

I love these conversations and hearing the thinking and how faith unravels. The more of these conversations I hear the more it seems like we (Christian’s and the western church) have become incredibly disconnected with the early church and doctrine. We don’t seem to know or have forgotten the history of Christianity and the church before the reformation split. When he was talking about how he understood the doctrine of the body. It made me realize that many of the positions that I hear people have issues with are sometimes heresies that the early church already dealt with and wrote official doctrine on and where there is much writing and wisdom from early church fathers on. Most of us don’t know though and when people fall into believing heresies that they then deny and are leaving the faith over we have no way of helping or guiding because we ourselves don’t even know what is doctrine. Church tradition and history is still very important and we seem to have thrown it out.

Sorry it took me so long to say anything I genuinely did not think anyone would respond so I never look at notifications. But for what it might be worth I’ll say that, I was commenting specifically on when Joseph was talking about about the Christian view of the body which in his view essentially makes the body the enemy and its desires to being inherently sinful. The example given of lust and watching pornography vs just natural hormones. Those conclusions or views sounded to me as being very similar to some of the beliefs of gnostics who view the body as being inherently evil. And Since Gnosticism is a heresy that the early church dealt with that is why I commented the way I did and I was also bearing in mind some of the other conversations I’ve heard and had with other people who have left the faith and what they characterized as being the Christian view on this very subject. I did not mean for it to come off as me saying that Joseph was just speaking heresy more so that I think there has been old heresy or bad doctrine that has creeped back in and because we don’t know our history (I would include myself in this, cuz I can definitely stand to no more church history and am growing in my knowledge of it) many times we don’t know how to combat it, and these doctrines/ideas can influence the church and hurt people, I would use some aspects of purity culture as an example of this.

Proverbs 14:12 “ There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. “
It’s not worth walking out of God’s will for your life . To those who are walking away , the devil is trying to blind you from the kingdom of heaven so that you can focus on the kingdom of this world and it’s own glory ( Matthew 4 : 1-17 ) . I know a woman who was in and out of God for years , and one day she died . God showed her family a vision and she is in hell now . Don’t play with God . God loves you , but he didn’t die for you to just walk away from him . He died to save you from hell . Come back to your first love . He’s calling you back
