Stardust dragon and all of the evolutions he gets throughout the series represents yusei in that stage of his development, same thing with red dragon archfiend and his evolution and jack

Zexal isnt my favorite season. But i actually love how Yuya's deck was made for stupid last minute come from behind victories. Thats what Utopia and its 30 different forms do best. It illustrates the never give up underdog narrative well while being funny.

I absolutely love the Fortune Cup, and that's exactly why I really can't forgive the second part of the series, and Yusei' character and deck are a big part of that unfotunately, since his playstyle basically devolves into: summon stardust+a bunch of random situational crap.
As an aside, DM characters are much better off in the manga, Duelist Kingdom had completely different rules from Battle City and the characters fully rebuilt their decks from one arc to another.
Yugi doesn't use the likes of Gaia and Summoned Skull anymore, and has a much more focused deck built around the poker knights and the magnet warriors as tribute fodder for his dark magicians and Slifer; it's still somewhat generic, but characters like Marik, Bakura, Mai, Mako and Kaiba have very well defined playstyles.
My favorite though has to be little Yugi (who also gets screwed over quite a bit by the anime), visually his deck clearly reflects his love of gaming and his child-like innocence, alongside his growth during the series through the silent monsters; and he's got a very coherent playstyle built around stalling the game and growing stronger as the turns pass. Even Gandora makes a ton of sense as a card for him to play, his deck is so slow that naturally it's vulnerable against other players setting up their own combo, which is why he needs a card that can punish them for it, which is exactly how Gandora is used against Bakura.

Y'know, your explanation how Yugi's deck wasn't exactly coherent really got me thinking. Why hasn't there been a remake of the original three series yet??
C'mon, not only is there now enough material to make them transition into one another smoothly, but imagine how busted a modern version of Yugi's deck could be! Yusei as well!
......No, not Jaden. That scrub used the vanilla Heroes. He can come back when he picks up the Masked and Omni Heroes.
