This is basically the 2 hour podcast over on Evil Puff edited down, but I gotta say it came out great! It's cohesive and the points flow well into eachother. Love it!
Not enough Piccolo Love on this Platform. Its cool how he helps Goku teach Trunks and Goten in the final arc. Because he's technically Goku's old teacher too because he's Kami. Its 3 generations of fighters collaborating, And now that the two Namekians are one again Piccolo is back on the lookout teaching more young fighters to save the world. Fulfilling Kami's Old role while still being his own person.

Woah, this was amazing and super insightful. I never realized that Goku never made a wish until the end with Buu. Honestly, you make the Gohan aspects of the story sound so much better, even though I am still not convinced Gohan's scholarly thing wasn't a last minute idea Toriyama cooked up middle of the Cell Saga and wrote himself into a corner with. Still, you made me appreciate Buu and Uub so much more now.
I love this way more than I thought I would. Subtle storytelling catching you off guard.
You’re wrong about Gohan’s career choice being last minute.
Gohan says he doesn’t want to be a fighter he wants to be a scholar when Piccolo kidnapped him, that’s like his introduction volume.
@@trashiki He was 4. Gohan didn't exactly have much of any agency back then. It came across as his mother talking and him just parroting it. It didn't help that this wasn't touched upon at all until the Cell Games. But I am not here to debate. Just to clarify my stance.

Assuming he’s parodying his mother’s wishes just because is a weird way to look at it. Especially since from that point onward Gohan repeatedly shows he doesn’t like fighting but literally never shows a problem with being a scholar.
There’s also a character intro page in Gohan’s introduction volume that literally just has him saying his name, age, and desire to be a scholar. It’s literally his most defining starting personality trait.
Hell even when Gohan says it to Piccolo he’s told “be whatever you want infant, after you’ve defeated the two saiyans”. His desire is validated. Nothing in the story implies Gohan isn’t genuinely expressing himself.
I think the anti scholar reading generally comes from two places, either anime and movie watchers who saw a lot of anti Chichi filler like that tutor with the whip.
Or, from just really wanting Gohan to be a cool guy who fights and being bummed he’s not.
Although one point towards your “he was too young” idea, I’m pretty sure he was supposed to be 3 initially and it was retconned to be 4.
