People always say that animals are "brave" when you give them medication, or take a blood sample, or place a catheter... but what about the poor vet staff who are risking life and limb to do it!? I think we're the brace ones, and our patients are the patient ones :-).

On Monday, my 13-year-old tuxedo, Phinny, had a reaction to his rabies vaccine. My dad and I used the video on administering pills to make sure he took the dose of baby aspirin and Benadryl the vet prescribed. I’m not saying it was fun, but it did help him get better! He was SO sick and I know he was suffering. Now he’s back to his usual affectionate, playful self. So, thank you!

Yes, but not aspirin. Never give human drugs to pets! Your vet can pre-medicate your pet with an antihistamine, which will reduces risk of a vaccination reaction.

Could you please do a video on how to help a cat lose weight? More and more cats are overweight these days and it's very difficult to make them lose weight, especially since it could be harmful if done incorrectly.
Sel B I second this! I had no idea how easy it was to help my cat lose weight.
And some people (like me) have one fat cat among a group of regular cats. A gang of cats? A tribe?

You finally found something Lancelot doesn't like modeling! He's such a good kitty though! Another suggestion for a "treat" is to brush the cats. Maybe I've been lucky, but my cats have all REALLY enjoyed being brushed and when they get to the geriatric phase and are not so food motivated (like with kidney disease, etc.), having a brushing session available as a treat helps doing meds or sub-qs less traumatic. I had a 19yo who would wait in the bathroom for her sub-qs because she enjoyed the brushing afterward so much. Thank you for your videos!

I love how the manufacturers expect you to get that exact amount in their eyes😆 The same with ear drops! My vet said the same as you, just get something in there. Easier said than done though😒😾😆

I had to administrate eye drops to my cat once because he used to sharpen his claws onto a wooden surface and once got a wood splinter in his eye and overnight he kept rubbing his eye with his paw and in the morning the eye was inflamed. The first couple times it was pure hell, he wouldn't allow me to get close to that eye no matter what.
Then I developed this nice trick of distracting the cat with a toy so that he would lift its head and just drop the medication from a higher position directly into its eye, worked like a charm :D Took a couple tries to get the aim right for the medication tho!

More squishing. I have that with one cat who's also able to back out and scratch my thighs. I learnt to put a little more force and they suddenly become docile. As he said in that video, they're a lot more sturdy than a dog.
I had to apply glaucoma eye drops twice a day to our sweet geriatric former stray, for the last several years of her life. It was hard at first but she had a great temperament and soon grew accustomed to it.
I had infant twins during this period and was sometimes doing things in a sleep deprived haze.
One morning I went to apply the eye drops and after I moved past the petting/reassurance stage, the cat was just like "omg! Wtf are you doing?!"
It was very, very hard to get them in, the drama was intense.
What is going on?? I wondered....and then realized I was applying them to the wrong cat!! Poor thing, he was loving the attention until it suddenly turned into a horror show for him
Lol! Definitely should put disclaimer at the beginning of all my "How to..." videos. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT PATIENT.
If only we had had your videos back then, lol. They wouldn't have helped with the sleep deprivation, but the tip about feeding your patient immediately after is excellent!

I've had and continue to have multiple cats who require meds, injections and eye treatments. Somehow their cooperation never fails to amaze me as if they know I'm trying to help. There is a lot of love and trust going both ways and we always heal.
You have such a gentle and conforting presence that even my two cats sit near to hear your voice whenever I watch your videos.
This reminded me of my first cat, he had an eye infection and never struggled against the medication! He was such a calm boy!

@@HelpfulVancouverVet That would be priceless, Dr. Uri! When I was 11 years old, we had our new kitten spayed. When she managed to stand up, still "loopy", she lumbered back and forth very slowly like she was drunk and then finally her back end collapsed like she had lost her balance. I laughed so hard, I think she was embarrassed. She managed to muster her energy, went running to hide underneath my bed, and didn't come out for hours.

I cut their nails and brush their teeth myself, and if they ever need medicine, now I feel like I can be a good parent when they're sick, too. thanks for the helpful tips! especially the info about the eye-squinting! luckily my cat trusts me unconditionally and always holds still when i have my serious face own. he never rejects medication or is mad at me or fussy. i'm really grateful for our special bond!

Poor little guy. Up until the eye lube came, he looked so content, like he was thinking "this is how things are supposed to be, me being petted", then he looked so surprised. I'm sure it was just a bit of a shock, and he didn't mind really. He didn't look too annoyed afterwards. I imagine him feeling a bit betrayed though. He was looking so lovingly at you at the begining.
He's a very handsome kitty. I bet people love to pet him. How is he with strangers?
