yeah they used a calm cat. Not all cats have a temperament that mellow. My cat needs 2 drops but freaks out as soon as the first drop hits his eye. My cats also don't fall for the treats. I could five them the most expensive fish or meat but they don't care.

My cat ran away shaking her head, sneezing and rubbing her eye. She was fabulous about the drops, but her reaction while comical was making my son think she was going to die. I live with drama queens, the kids and the cat. haha
Reading these comments makes me feel a lot better about having to restrain my cat in a towel like a straight jacket. She hates it and I feel so guilty so I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t have a cooperative cat like in the video.

nope,it depends on how well you treat your cat. if you always disturb the cat ,the cat will hate you. (I speak from experience) I had two cats. the first one, I always disturb, I was young and naive. the cat hated me. the second cat I got a few years ago, I treat her well. :), we became best friends :)
I'm best buddies with my cat and he goes nuts if I try to put ointment in his eye. He just doesn't like being handled like that.

I think so too. I tried again today to put eyedrops for my cat, with the help of m husband and still he skiddadled away !! He is also a docile by nature. So how was this vet successful in applying the eyedrops? lol, yep I think the cat was given a sedation .

The best method I've found is wait for them to fall into a deep sleep, then go up and put the drops in. They're too sleepy to squirm around and scoot backwards so you dont need to block them in or tie them up.

This is fantastic, I feel it’s kind of taking advantage but seriously there’s no choice and no time.
This cat is an exception. It’s impossible to apply eye drops to my cat even though she is a very calm one. She never bites or scratches. When applying the eye drop she closes her eyes and tries to run away. Even if I manage to do 1 drop, it doesn’t stay in her eye since she shakes her head like crazy. Not to mention the drooling that washes the ground. So it would be nice to see a normal cat in your hands while doing this.

Yea... for all the folks who are (correctly) saying that this isnt helpful for an uncooperative cat, here are some other ideas:
(1) make sure you have good lighting, a well lit room
(2) get the get the cat up on a table, bench, something where your abdomen can be directly behind the cat... you can see in this video how she’s positioned, it helps “block” the cat from trying to back away from the hands coming at their face.
(3) before you put the cat on said table, counter, etc, lay a towel down on it & place the cat on the towel. This is a trick. It looks comfy, but when the cat starts squirming to push away in attempt to run, the towel will slide around under his feet, making him go nowhere :) This helps in the bath as well.
(4) the best method is to have a second person to help. Have them scruff the cat behind the neck with one hand, lift the chin up with the other hand so you can get the drops in. Stop being afraid to scruff your cat, its used by mother cats & also during mating. Its not inhumane, especially if you’re not even lifting the cat.
(5) if you dont have an extra hand to scruff/hold the cat, use one hand to cup the cats face while holding the top lid open & use your other hand to hold the dropper while your pinky lifts the cats face up. Its a dance.
I'll try the scruffing. For sure I'll be losing some skin but it's the only hope I have left!!

i have to give drops 3 times a day now. It's becoming a big battle each time. So far it's 3-2 for the human
I really wish it was that easy.. I have been giving my kitten eye drops 3 times a day for almost 2 weeks now and every single time it gets worse + she hates me now. I literally have to wrap her in 3 blankets and it takes me 15 minutes just to get her to stay in the right position. Although her eyes are way better, the vet said I have to keep giving her the eye drops for longer because "i didn't apply them properly"........ I wonder why. Anyways, please pray for me and for my cat 😭
Oh, no! I doubt that you didn't apply them properly as much as your cat's eye was worse than she first thought but isn't going to own up to it. I'm on day 2 of eye drops and I'm here so you know how well it's going for me.

Reading the comments, I appreciate how sweet-tempered my cats are. This worked perfectly for me with a slight modification, I kind of kneeled over my cat and held him in place between my legs, then basically followed the instructions. He barely meowed and had his tail back in the happy position as soon as I dropped some treats for him.

Does anyone know what to do if the cat squeezes his eyes shut very tightly? He doesn't resist that much and stays calm in my arms but whenever i try to get his eyes open he just keeps them shut tight and I'm afraid I'll hurt him if I try to open them for him. I tried to open them gently but he really really shuts them tight probably because he's scared.

Unfortunately, my cat is not cooperative. I usually put the eye drops on my fingers and rub them into his eye when he is relaxed and not looking.
Then he jumps up and runs. When he sees the bottle, he also runs.

I would recommend bringing the bottle up from behind your kitties head. Mine freaks any time he sees the bottle coming at him

How did you get her eye to open? I swear to god my amazing cat uses all her might to keep her eye closed and then I have to try hard to even open her eye to get the ointment in :(. I do not want to hurt her but need to help her. I just pray a small amount of it gets in her eye.

This helped so much! I also find it good to b3 very gentle, and rub their eyes and face with one finger before administering the drops because it seems to calm my cats down.

@@bethtucker5275 I learned that I have to put my cat on my lap and encase him with my body so there's no escape. Wear a thick jacket and long pants to protect you from scratching. Hold his head with one hand and give the eye drops with the other! Then reward with a lot of treats!

wrapping your cat up nice and tight like a baby is the most important part. then i held mine like a baby, and held his body up with my knee and one hand on the head. it was pretty easy but also my cat loves me lol.
Dont vets make it look so easy with a cat thats used to being handeled. Ever tried it with a cat that isn't used to being handeled and has large claws!

Umm, yeah this is not what happens. Majority of cats have reflexes. Reflexes that absolutely refuse objects near their eyes.
Please find 1 cat that is "not so obedient" or "I'll kill you if you touch me" kind of cat. We need those kind of tutorial... not a super obedient 1.
