How To Apply Cat Eye Drops - How to Put Eye Drops in a Difficult Cat - Can't Give Cat Eye Drops
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 вер 2024
- This video show my sister, Amy, putting eye drops in her Ragdoll cat, Ash. She was having a difficult time getting the eye drops in his eyes, until she started laying him on his back on her legs, where he fought her less. If your cat is more aggressive than Ash, you can always wrap s/he in a towel (so that their paws are wrapped tightly and cannot fight you) and then just have access to their face. Your vet should also be able to show you different positions you can put them in - mostly because a vet is the only person that should be prescribing eye drops for your cat.

Tips that might help:
1. Burrito wrap your cat in a towel - my sister shows how she wraps her cats here: ua-cam.com/video/avi2c8UsXTs/v-deo.html - you just wouldn't want to have your kitty's paws sticking out. And watch a veterinarian give an eye drop here: ua-cam.com/video/80pzrInBKj8/v-deo.htmlsi=aca2lKEQAISa3LWA
2. Have confidence - Go in with confidence that you're going to get it done. Don't hold your breath and be in control, but be calm. Cats sense everything - so go in with confidence.
3. Come in sideways - Approach your cat's eyes with the dropper from the side instead of in front of them
He isn’t difficult. I’ll send Phoebe over and then you will know difficult 😂😂😂
same here
Umm, THAT is not a difficult cat hahahaha. He did so well!!! I have to literally lay on top of mine, she hates it so much. I swear she becomes a liquid, she can squirm out of any position.
ha ha ha - chiggy has that liquid capability
I can relate so much to this Lol. My cat has a corneal ulcer so I can imagine how painful it is when I apply the antibiotic drops. She's a big cat but somehow manages to get away from me, it's like she has a activated mode for her fur to become slippery 🤣
'How To Apply Eye Drops to a Difficult Cat', demonstrated on a completely docile cat. Thanks.
ha ha ha - my sister got him to this point and thought we should do a video. so alternatively, you can wrap your cat in a towel - ua-cam.com/video/avi2c8UsXTs/v-deo.html - as she does in this video to clip their claws.
Um, difficult? I'm looking for examples where your cat is yowling and scratching deep wounds in your arms and then racing around the house like its tail is on fire.
hmmmm, you might need to ask your vet for suggestions and in the mean time, start to manipulate them more, so that when you do need to administer eye drops, etc. they are used to being handled without a threat.
Me too. And now my usual cuddly senior cat is mad at me :( I'm supposed to give her drops twice a day for glaucoma. I'm lucky if I can give them once.
🤣🤣🤣I agree
@@Floppycats Thanks - sorry I never saw your reply! I do handle them loads, they're very familiar with me picking them up and brushing them, etc. But one of my cats (actually, the most clingy and affectionate) is super defensive and suspicious of treatments, and she really does have the longest, sharpest nails on the planet :)
@@PanarchyInTheUK oh man. sorry to hear that. are you able to trim her nails? a veterinarian once told me that the only time she was bitten by a cat was when she held her breath. so they sense our energy too.
He was so good. I would have gotten murdered
"How to give eye drops to difficult cat" FLIPS IT UPSIDE DOWN you must be joking
"How to put eye drops in the floppiest, chillest cat ever."
🤣 you can burrito wrap your cat to make it easier too.
He was a perfect kitty patient. I had to give mine an eye ointment. I had to wrap him up like a burrito and pin him down. Once while I was struggling to keep him still... the UPS guy came to my door. I can only imagine what he thought was going on. He left pretty quick :)
What a good chilled out kitty
That's the calmest cat I've seen...ever. But thanks anyway. How do I do it? with great difficulty and usually ending up with eyedrop medicine from one end of the room to the other. Lucky to get with all my limbs still attached.
This is cute, but when the cat is actively desperate for escape, it won’t work. My foundling had finally gotten to the point of being affectionate and trusting when she developed an eye issue. Trying to administer eye drops 3 times a day has been futile and now she’s afraid again and hides. If yours is a larger cat, like mine, it really takes two people. If you live alone it’s not easy, trust me.
3x a day is a lot! have you tried putting her in a burrito?
@@Floppycats Actually, I didn’t...but it’s a good idea. Thanks 😊
That is not a difficult cat, I was scared and waiting to see blood and hear people screaming
ha ha ha - that would be ridiculous for an eye drop
@@Floppycats I am trying to learn and apply drops to my psyco cat
@@josealexander9794 did your vet show you how? i assume they had to since they prescribed them? did they show you how to wrap your kitty?
@@Floppycats They showed me, but he put a fight. Do you have a video how to wrap him
@@josealexander9794 yes - my sister shows how she wraps her cats here: ua-cam.com/video/avi2c8UsXTs/v-deo.html - you just wouldn't want to have your kitty's paws sticking out. also, when you do the drops- go in with confidence that you're going to get it done. don't hold your breath and be in control but be calm. cats sense everything - so go in with confidence.
this method has totally worked - at the first go! had been trying the way the vet had explained by holding the cat down and lifting her head up and she was squirming her way out stressful for both of us
super!
Yeah! My cat also responded to this method way better than the way she did to the vet method. Thanks for sharing!
PS my cat is not as calm as the cat in the video, but still, I can put the eye drops more easily.
The eyes though, They are so pretty!
That is not a difficult cat. If I did this I would have died from cat claw wounds
What sheer silliness!
Difficult in what way?
ha ha ha. my sister got him to be this way by working with him overtime.
Very helpful. I've been having a real struggle with Babypuss who has a damaged and infected eye. She needs antibiotic drops and lubricant drops. I laid a large towel on my lap, wrapped her in that on her back (well, partly!) and was able to hold the eye open and drop the drops in. She must have them or she will lose the eye. Thank you so much for posting this, John Melville
cool. i am glad you found this video helpful - thanks for your comment.
what a good little kitty
Yes, he did a good job.
HAAAAA HAAAAA HAAAAAAAAA DIFFICULT oh ladies you have no idea. I will send my Mollie over she is only seven months old. We need a towel and some tough love. Your babies are so calm and beautiful, hopefully when she gets older we will have built this level of trust.
Handsome Ash. He has the most amazing eyes. Certainly not a difficult cat to give eye drops to.
1:39 Ash says "Check your shoes later" lol
Too funny. Still laughing.
HE'S SO GOOOOD. My cat gets so dramatic just seeing the eyedropper....
ha ha ha - poor buddy
This is very well behaved cat
Yes - please see pinned comment for ideas. My sister worked hard to get him to tolerate this.
This is not a difficult cat... very lovely ❤
My boy had the vet assistant + me holding him and the vet still got half the eye drops in his cheek lmao this cat is so easy
ha ha ha - yes, i have learned that since published it 5 years ago. did you burrito wrap your kitty?
Wow! Such a good kitty! Wish my cat would copycat your kitty! He deserves extra. Kitty treats😊😻
Please do see suggestions on the pinned comment - try burrito wrapping your kitty!
He seems to like it. Thank you for sharing.
WOW! Super PAWESOME video, Jenny & Amy!! Brilliant way to give Ashman his eye drops, Amy!! Look how passive he is!! Impressive!! I have never had to administer eye drops to any of our pets we've had. However, I have this video bookmarked just in case we ever have to do this in the future with Miss PSB. Super helpful video!! Gah...The Cuteness Overload of Ash is OFF THE CHARTS in this video!! Big hugs & lots of love!! :)
Cute cat, but not difficult AT ALL. Hoping someone someday will post a video somewhere about her an actual difficult cat and how to give it medication.
my sister adopted this cat from a rehoming situation. she worked hard to earn his trust. did you see these tips?

Whaaaat! You’re cat is good! I gotta find another video for a furious feline beast!
did you see the tips pinned at the top of the comments? hopefully those would help.
Great job Ash man! ❤️
That’s not a difficult cat believe me I have one ,and he’s always fighting for his dear life
try a burrito wrap
I seriously feel like giving my cat anesthesia XD
have you tried wrapping your kitty in a towel to give the eye drops?
I’ve been trying for 2-weeks to put ointment in my cats eye with no success, I wish my cat acted this way
Have you tried burrito wrapping your cat? Has your vet shown you?
My cat has an ointment for her eyes right now and it is hell in a hand basket getting her to do them. I gotta purrito her, and she’ll hiss and spit and bite still. She’s a great kitty but she HATES people touching her eyes. Which I can’t say I really blame her.
sorry to hear that she spits, etc. has the vet given you any tips other than the purrito?!
He’s sooo cute!!
Um… My Steven is NOT like this cat! This cat is a dream!
Sorry! Have you tried burrito-wrapping him?
if this is a difficult cat what is mine, he is so calm and he sits. mine in small, he doesn t stay calm for a second, and i try all ways, he doesn t let me to put his drops. i am desperate
Check out first pinned comment. Also, ask your vet that prescribed the drops!
My cat is so calm when it comes to medication he is so precious
that's cool
May I ask what breed he is please?
Yes, Ash is a Ragdoll
I'm going to try this later, hopefully it goes well. Juliet doesn't try to squirm out, she instead knows what's going to happen and clenches her eyes shut, and I've been having a hard time holding her and holding her eye open and using the bottle to get the drops in.
good luck! hope it works - you could also try wrapping her in a towel, so she cannot turn over.
Hi Jenny! Great video---never would have thought of inbetween the legs---great idea---my Freddie (Fro-der-ick) is a hot mess with his allergies---going in soon to vet---I may have to do this very thing in order to administer meds or anything on him--he's horrible---I tried to give him allergy meds once and he sat and foamed at the mouth--he's such a baby! Got my Lily Brush--and LOVING IT!!! YOU WERE RIGHT!!! Thanks for the advice---you're teachin the old biker chick somethin!!!
oh, foaming at the mouth might be because it made him nauseous. what are the allergy meds? a pill? do you give him a water chaser after you give him the pill?
yay on the lilly brush!! it's one of the best!
Omg my cat is far from relaxed. As soon as I go near her she's off. Your cat is so good
oh man, sorry to hear that. have you tried wrapping her in a burrito?
Ash is so cute! My cat is 16 lbs and super long. Hope I find some way but this is a good idea!
if you try this, please let me know if it works for you guys.
Thanks jen

You should try doing this with a Bengal! Impossible. He freaks out, fights and scratches and clamps his eye shut
😬 have you tried wrapping him in a towel, so he cannot move his legs? what did your veterinarian suggest?
Awwww, what a good boy! He is so "frickin" cute lol

this is NOT a difficult cat. Trying to figure out how to do mine and even doing the towel trick isnt working, he gets out of it
have you tried scruffing him?
Wow he really loves and trusts you...
He is absolutely beautiful. I really want to stick my face in his fluff and give him kissies. I wish I had seen this earlier. I had the hardest time giving eye drops to my boy.

yes, i have heard that a few times on this video.
This is a very easy going cat…My cat won’t let me put her bully up like that…
I’d burrito her up and then try it.
Aye wait till you see my main mang Mittens this bastard feisty
Ha ha ha - yes, I would burrito wrap such a cat in a towel.
Hahaha did not expect such a quick response but yeah I did the towel burrito but he still was squirming around but I managed to get only one drop instead of two and called it good. Also cool funny and informative video btw!

This is not a difficult cat lol My cat won’t allow me to put him in that position at all (his name is Ash too 😜). Your Ash is so adorable though!!
how ironic that his name is ash too!
How the fuck is tht cat difficult? He is so calm
Ok my cat just made a complete liar out of me 😂 I tried this method for the hell of it and it actually worked lol He didn’t sit as still as yours but I was able to get the drops in fairly easily. My Ash isn’t a difficult cat either but I was having a hard time giving him the drops the way the vet said. I highly doubt I would be able to put my difficult cat on his back like this BUT for semi easy to easy cats, this method works great 👍
wonderful! that's for the report back!
I can't get my cat her drops for senior glaucoma no matter how many of the tips I've tried online:,( I'm supposed to give her drops twice a day in each eye for the rest of her life! She's usually extremely cuddly and after three days of trying with the drops, she's mad at me. It doesn't help that I'm in a wheelchair and can't easily just pick her up.i have no one to help me. Grrr. The vet has no suggestions beyond all of the things I've tried.
has the vet shown you a way?
also, have you tried wrapping him in the towel? i would do that, so his legs are all wrapped up in the towel and then all you have to worry about is her head moving.
@@Floppycats no..I have tried all of the methods online. I'm in a wheelchair, and about to give up. Her eye pressure is only slightly elevated. I have no one to help me
@@Floppycats I don't have the balance or coordination to do it without freaking her out:,(

Yeahhh-- thats a good boy. My cat however... not a good boy.
