  • Dr. Foote demonstrates how to apply eye medication in a less stressful way for your cat. Using towels, a cat friendly space and very little touch, you can apply eye drops or ointment in your cat's eyes without restraint or stress.

    My cat has fairly high anxiety and would not let me put eye drops in at all yesterday. I watched our vet and three different videos before I landed on this one. Dr. Foote's method is the only one I tried today and it worked wonderfully!!! I bought baby food, followed her technique and the drops went in with no problems or anxiety for my cat! She loved the baby food and was super cooperative!! I am thrilled with Dr. Foote!!
    Thank you so so much!!!!

    Oh my gosh! Dr Foote, you are a genius! After so many fights to get eye gel med into my cat - I thought he was going to sprain his neck, he would yank so hard - I followed your instructions, and it was unbelievable! So easy, it was over before I knew what happened! Amazing! Thank you thank you thank you!!❤🎉

    Thank you! The idea of a blanket makes all the difference for medicating my cat. I'm far from being expert at it, but we're getting there!

    ok- I just viewed the end of your video and see the technique with the cat carrier... I have a very skittish cat with a serious eye infection- so I got my laundry basket and a large coverlet with a big chip clip- and voila! He was compliant and calm and for the first time after several days of trying, I was able to put the ointment squarely in his eye without him flinching !!! he was calm after the process, never tried to get away and now I'm CALM- what a difference... I recommend this treatment to anyone who has to medicate a cat. And I recommend YOU as a vet to anyone who is lucky enough to live close to you and can have you as a vet!!! Thank you. And Frankie thanks you!

    How I struggled to get drops into my cat’s eye to treat an ulcer until I took the advice given in this video of placing him in a blanket inside a laundry basket, where he feels enclosed and can’t back out. What a difference - the procedure is now over in a flash and my puss and I can both relax and get on with the day and his eye is pretty well back to normal! Thank you for this helpful video.

    This is the how-to for instilling/applying a cats eye medicine we ACTUALLY need. It's so thorough, detailed and addresses everything down to hand position, left and right, and how to get the cap off the drops!
    I think I'm going to forward this to my cats vet optho, too.
    My kitty has (and likely will have for life) residual eye issues from a past infection with FIP and she's currently getting drops in both eyes, 3 times a day, for 3 weeks ... that's a lot of opportunity for potentially negative interactions.

    The cat in this video is so calm. My can only smells medication, he doesn't let me even come close.
    How to apply a medication to a cat that is stressfull about it, always moves and tries to escape?
    I tried to associate it with food, with a game, with treats, nothing helps.
    Will be helpful for any advice or a link to a video with a "harder patient" 🙂

    Looking forward to trying these techniques with my foster kitten. One comment - it's a little strange to hear you talk about doing something with your right hand when in the video it looks like you're using your left hand. I think there are settings you can use to correct this so the video image matches the audio.

    All this is very helpful but I have two cats who run away when I get close to them. It’s their schedule not mine.
    So I can’t really have them laying on a towel or in a basket because as soon as I get close they run away and hide under the bed.
    I’ve been told to give eye drops 4 times a day to each cat and I’ll be lucky if I get 1 drop on a single cat.

    So what if your cat doesn’t like having things go from behind? My cat absolutely won’t let me get near him when trying to apply his eye drops and I’ve tried wrapping him but he absolutely hates it and I don’t want to stress him out, I’ve tried calming treats but those don’t work either so I feel like I’m out of options because he needs his eye drops every day

  • @user-ip5qm7zm1q

    Thank you for this method. My cat is a one year old feral rescue who has guacoma so she needs drops in both eyes twice a day. Her vet could get one drop in before she got nailed and my daughter who is a vet tech was able to calm my cat enough to get drops in each eye. However my cat became so upset by the process that the next time I tried the drops she went full tiger and scratched me all down the front. I find it so distressing too and dread trying to giving the drops which she so needs to keep her vision. I will slowly get her use to your method and feel this will help me be less distressed so I can help her.

    • @DrSallyJFoote
      @DrSallyJFoote  2 роки тому +2

      use a lot of food - what ever she loves for every step of the process. Keep your hands off the head also - I have put the food on a wall to have the cat hold their own head up then put in the drops - completely hands free. This decreases alot of the pain from touch as you get the drops in. Good luck

    Do you have any advice if you've attempted to put eye drops in but the cat struggled a lot and had a bad experience. How do you keep them still enough to be able to administer the eye drops, especially if they have already associated it with a stressful experience?

    • @DrSallyJFoote
      @DrSallyJFoote  3 роки тому +7

      The key is you have to create a new place, that you have had the cat come to for rewards before you do any treatment. Watch the early part of the video where I am describing how I created this nice place, fed Binx before I did any touch so he likes it. Then every step has to be paired with the reward. Be aware of approaching from the side, not the front. Your cat may have a lot of pain - Tell your vet about your troubles!! They may be able to give your cat a pain reliever that will help with the eye drops.

      yes.... our rescue cat is young and became scared....I am also nervous looking at many videos that give different information...I do not wan to hurt her..........what I get from this video is that you need set up a place with a towel or a basket or box with a towel in it..give the cat treats..place you hand under the jaw NOT the neck..and be gentle.....get the cat used to these steps..before you try the drops..........The thing is my cat needs the meds and she is already scared...the vet did not instruct us well.............but I have to keep trying... this Dr....seems to have the best method......careful SARAH not to be heavy handed with your cats head not neck...you may hurt her.........
