    4:37 "sanded caulk" I believe is what you're reaching for here. And thanks for the followup; your house is awesome!

    Another thing you can do when laying your hardwood floors next to tile and"glueing" it down is to do 2 to 3 inch lines that are 2 to 3 inches apart. That also allows your wood floors to expand and contract. I did that when I put up my faux shiplap on one of my walls. Taking out my drywall wasn't an option. So I used 1/4 inch plywood and cut into strips to make my shiplap. You can't tell it's fake because I made it look rustic. I love it. There hasn't been any kind of buckling anywhere since putting it up in the spring because of how I "glued" it onto the wall. To give it that rustic finish look, I used finishing nails in my nail gun on the ends of each strip and wherever there are studs. So it's a little pro tip if you ever have this kind of project again or if you ever decide to do what I did for one of my walls because you can't take out the drywall or you don't want to but you still want that shiplap look.

    Your house is awesome dude, nice work! I laid 2000 sf of hardwood in our current house a couple years ago and used the trim style transitions, they're starting to break free from their track already. we are building a new house this fall and we will be doing a grout transition instead. thanks for the video and a solid follow up.

    You could take out that cracked grout and use that colored caulking that flexes when it dries just match it with the colorof your grout. Just run a bead in between the wood and the ceramic tile and then smooth it with your finger and when you smooth it with your finger dip your finger in a little bit of water, keep the tip of your finger wet and it really looks great. But like you said it's no big deal because nobody is really going to notice.

    i had 3/4 inch hardwood in varying widths from 3.5 to 8 inch and as long as 12 feet in length.
    Gluing was required as well as staples.

    I wish I saw this yesterday...I just used the polysh*t you mentioned in your video last night, and I already noticed the concave this morning......can I use the other brand grout you used 2.5 yrs ago right on top and save it??

    • @SebastianBalos
      @SebastianBalos  3 роки тому +2

      i would not put the grout on top of the poly. It likely wont hold up well and make things worse. I would let the poly dry then try to rip it all out, then do it again with grout.

    2:20 the grout line that the contractor installed that is right next to the glass sliding door should be 100% silicone NOT GROUT.

    Can you tell me the name of the adhesive you used?

  • @sunalwaysshinesonTVs
    @sunalwaysshinesonTVs 3 роки тому +1

    Wait... the only reason it cracked is cause the adhesive disconnected from the subfloor, or cause the adhesive was torn from the subfloor due to expansion/contraction of the floor system?

    • @SebastianBalos
      @SebastianBalos  3 роки тому

      Id say it disconnected due to poor adhesion to the subfloor as apposed to disconnected due to expansion/contraction in my case.

      @@SebastianBalos I just watched the previous video, we are buying a house that has no floors and we are putting tile in the kitchen and dining room and hardwood the rest of the house. I've been trying to come up with transition ideas and seen many metal and wood pieces and didn't like them. One thing I immediately thought when you were gluing is "oh man you should be zigzagging that glue!" I hope everything works out with the rest though. I think I'm going with your idea of grouting next to the wood floor. I think that looks a lot better. Thanks for the vid and keep rockin that house!

    😂 my actual builder installed my hardwood (which the very first winter) DID expand and retract. I COULD HAVE DONE IT WAAAY better being a woman and doing it very similar to how you did yours (ended up having to redo it that way anyway).
    Leave it to a real contractor to:
    A. Not use the correct measurements and/or leaving room for subflooring, transitions, (using the cheapest ish he could find)..I could go on and on here
    B. Having vendors coming in and out immediately, walking all over it. Yes, using caulking….
    C. Oh yeah, and mopping it within 2 hours!!? Wtf?!!!
    I wasn’t even in my brand new home for two months before the entire downstairs flooring warped due to the expansion and retraction of the crap. Brand new.. So since the builder (in CA where you pay FARRRRR more per square footage than most anywhere else.. smh can’t wait to get outta this state! TMI - sry)….apparently didn’t have the knowledge, I went out and bought real bamboo hardwood installing it myself on HIS dime, lol. Some people.. I love your videos for us regular people (taking business from the rip off-ers😂, because we can do it better and cheaper ourselves)!
    Thank ya!

  • @rachelkoiks

    You just glued the subfloor right? Yeah that shouldn’t affect the wood expansion/contraction shit. Isn’t that what it’s for? Movement and acoustics? Let’s all educate ourselves, I KNEW caulking wouldn’t work which is why I went to UA-cam for ideas where I found the part one. Funny the tiny issue was not enough glue 😂 go figure

    Yah I always glue down the entrance way for floating floors or at least no squeak caulking to hold the first planks together if there’s under-padding, the rest of the floor will expand if that’s what that type of floor does, but most engineered floor if climatized won’t. It takes no time & stops the gaps and seams from planks ‘floating’ away from each other. I seen jobs 1 year after by other guys and homeowners upset/ denial and I’m like ‘You wanted floating,but you can’t stand the freedom.’ Hypocrite !
