So how many of you have encountered this scenario where your BYD vehicle does not start up? How did you solve it? Comment and share your story.
Hmmm, the Seal manual under "Low Voltage Battery" (p93) says that it's under the rear left seat. It says that To avoid low-voltage battery feed, the smart charging function will be actively triggered if conditions (hood closed, ignition "OFF", high voltage battery discharging allowed, and low voltage battery level lower than design value) are met. It points out that when the smart charging function is triggered, the low voltage battery is charged through the high voltage battery. It says that if "smart charging" fails, the low voltage battery may cut off the vehicle's power supply. It further says that if you find before use that the vehicle is not powered, try to activate the low voltage battery by pressing the driver door microswitch continuously, and immediately power on the vehicle to charge the low-voltage battery. It is recommended to charge it for more than 1 hour. Ah, it may be tempting to jump start it but a caution in the manual says "Do not jump-start the vehicle with another fuel vehicle, as this may damage the starter iron battery."
Sounds like a reasonable conclusion about being in a workshop and so the car goes to 'sleep'. Wonders if other makes do the same?
@@scott1198 What you've described might be a different Low Voltage battery scenario. For my case, my EV battery is charged to 100% and the smaller 12V battery is also working fine. The car just decides to go into that deep sleep for whatever reason.
@@SkyPerspective Could be, please keep us updated as to what you find. It is interesting.
@@scott1198 will do
The same scenario happened for me two weeks ago. We had the two back doors and boot open for 45 mins while packing for a holiday. I opened the drivers door and there was enough power to automatically move the drivers seat back, but when I went to start the car everything was dead! It was out of hours for our local BYD EV service centre, so I called for roadside assistance. Unfortunately the technician that arrived had never seen a Seal and didn't even know where the 12v battery was stored. I show him :-). He eventually tested the 12v battery (it was flat), then put a jump-pack on it which allowed me to start the car. He could see the battery was being charged, but I wasn't confident to take the car away for the holiday and possibly be stranded away from further assistance. I spoke with the BYD service centre the following Monday morning and was then told about the 'Safe Mode' restart procedure ( 5 pushes on the drivers' door button), they booked the car in and checked the battery and charging system and found no problems. I now carry a battery jump-pack in the frunk. Three main points from this experience 1. It would have saved a lot of frustration if the is 'Safe Mode' feature had been explained at purchase time ( or communication sent out) 2. BYD should ensure that the contractors' they use for roadside assistance are trained on the basics of BYD cars. 3. Leave the car's main power ON if you intend to have the doors open for any extended length of time.
BTW. I am loving my BYD Seal Premium, having travelled over 10,000km I still feel I've purchased the best car for the price.
Not encountered, but definitely going to save this video just incase.
Not had it happen, but your advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for posting this. This is exaclty what happened last night to my 1 week old Seal and i got worried.
Oh wow! Just last night? My video would be handy if it's 2 days earlier. Do you know what triggered your BYD to go into this deep sleep?
Thanks so much for posting this, great content! It might save my butt sometime in the future.
Welcome. Glad my video is useful.
Thanks for sharing this - knowing what to do in case mine does it, is going to be a huge stress saver
Thanks for letting me know this is useful.
Thank you for making this video. Very informative!
Glad you find it informative. You are very welcome.
I’ve had this same happen as well on the 3 day old Seal. Was able to find the solution from that post on Reddit, but good to see this video.!
Great. Thanks for sharing. Did you know how you triggered it?
I had the bonnet, boot and drivers door open for a few minutes.
Strange thing was … the car system re-started without asking to turn the steering wheel. But, the car clock was reset to the 1st Jan 2017 !?
@@srhoded6633 So interesting. You might have hit a slightly different scenario. I wonder if there are any BYD experts reading this and hopefully could shed some light.
Thanks, I haven’t had this problem yet but when I do, thanks to your advice, I’ll know how to fix it.
Thanks to the person who posted on reddit too.
I have not encountered this, but great tip and thank you for sharing
You are welcome.
Thank you very much. This hasnt happened to me yet, but I’m sure it will in the future. I like to tinker with my cars so of course that means leaving the hood or boot open for a while. Now I know what to do when it goes into deep sleep. I read the owner’s manual during a flight and dont remember seeing this anywhere.
Yes I did a quick search on the user manual when this happened, not that easy to search even if the instruction was in there. Good that you confirm it's not in the user manual. Google+Reddit is better than User Manual 😁
Congrats mate saw AmazingEV (Rosco) had acknowledged you as one of the top AU-based EV utubers in the video description text of his video "Top 10 Aussie EV UA-camrs we pay tribute - Sorry to those we missed this time, see more below" well deserved for all your consistent efforts on utube
Thanks @_Sensei_8. Technically I am not a dedicated EV channel, I cover my other tech toys too. Nevertheless, happy to contribute wherever I can.
Merci ceci peut nous être très utile.
You are welcome. It can be quite worrying, so I thought of sharing
Looks like a safety feature against car thieves or hackers.
Interesting concept. How do you think it will trigger to prevent car thieves?
@@SkyPerspective Simple software update. Upon start up and putting the vehicle into drive it should require a voice confirmation with a voice passphrase. If someone tries it with 3 wrong passphrase attemps or a voice that doesn't match the config file for verification it should do this.
@@robanzzz5124 serious? 😊
Lol, just happened this to me today! It seems to be when you open the trunk and front trunk for cerain amount of time, but not much (15 min?). I didnt place anything on the sides of the front trunk, only on the trunk itself (i moved the charging cables to the front trunk)
Thaks god I saw this video, or I would have panicked! 😅
Wow! It's happening to many more people then I would expect. Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes it's panicking if we don't know what's going on, that's why I made this video to share with everyone.
good to know this. I'm interested in the seal SUV version of this.
Now I know not to keep the frunk open for too long.
The Seal SUV? Do you mean the Sea Lion?
@@SkyPerspective yes the sealion 7 as it is here in aus. the model nameing is all over the place haha
Yes that's a good one, but it's a Plug-in Hybrid. Not sure about the maturity of the PHEV technology, but the range is really amazing.
@@SkyPerspective the plug in hybrid here is called the sealion 6. the 7 is full electric.
@robanzzz5124 oh yes you are right. Didn't realised there are two sealions, thought there is only a sealion 6. Thanks for letting me know. Sealion 7 looks gorgeous!
There's a key icon for where you can put the keyfob inside the centre console under the armrest (in case of a flat key battery). I wonder if putting it there would also do the job
I am not sure, but I doubt that would make any difference. Putting the car key near the centre console key icon is basically for when the battery of the key is weak. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make the car go into safe mode to test this out, but that's a good question.
The car manual should cover all this details. Another similar issue is the "transport mode", that will limit the car and also put it on a deep sleep mode, which I suffered just the day after I got my seal.
Yes quite a number of us encountered the issue with "transport mode". I guess BYD did the right thing by having a transport mode so their crew won't take the car for a joy ride. They just need to set that mode to never come up when the car is delivered.
Funny, just happend to me yesterday. Was packing the car for a long trip and it just went into sleep. Called BYD customer service that gave me the tip about the microswitch on the handle. Super strange. Later during the trip the cr apod gated twice so the seal isn’t that popular at home now.
Interesting, I wonder why BYD customer service didn't tell me the tip about the button on the door handle when I called them. I had to learn it from the Reddit post. Good to see they are learning and improving. Maybe they watched my video 😜
Very safe option i think
I did a vinyl wrap of my Seal and during the 3 days of wrapping (and inactivity), the car went into sleep mode. Like your Seal, mine refused to power up. However, by placing the key near the door handle, and then pressing the lock button on the door handle, it woke the car up.
I think it happened to Tesla cars before! And many others. You can't expect 100% no issue on any electronics, let alone a car!
Yes, all technology products will take time to improve and mature. It's not an issue if we know what's going on. Good to be in the know.
Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in a future firmware update.
How to initiate a safe mode? We may want to do this if not using a car on a trip to go overseas for extended periods of time.
Nah, I don't think safe mode is designed for this purpose. Better to ask BYD what to do when leaving the car parked for extended periods of time. I would leave it in normal state rather than safe mode, so my mobile byd app can still reach and check on the car.
as per the manual, if leaving the car for an extended time, leave it charged between 40% and 60% (page 93)
When the vehicle is not to
be operated for an extended
period (over 7 days), it is
recommended that the battery
SOC should be kept at 40%-60%
to prolong its service life. When
the vehicle is not to be operated
for over 3 months, the power
battery must be fully charged
and then discharged to 40%-60%
every 3 months. Otherwise, over-
discharge may result, leading to
battery performance degradation
or even damage. Any vehicle fault
or damage so caused will not be
covered by the quality warranty.
Very useful information. Thanks for sharing.
This has happened to me once while leaving my car doing a tinting job... The seal fell asleep.
Haha... sleepy Seal 🦭
What type byd seal u use ?
Dynamic
That must have been a stressful situation. Quite unnecessary since if it is a function for servicing, it should be in the main infotainment or a dedicated button placed out of sight.
Yes it was pretty scary and worrying when that happened to me, so I made this video to share with everyone. I still don't quite precisely know how this deep sleep was triggered. Only knew it's something to do with the hood or boot.
Ooo I see..i thought my 12v battery was dead..it happened to me last week..what i did i jumped start the car..then the car start up normally..
Oh wow, so interesting. Thanks to all of you commenting we now know this happens quite often. I almost did a jump start but luckily the reddit post saved me from all the trouble.
What did U mean by jump start the car?
