Thanks for the ultralight videos. I currently am having disability issues with my balance and hope to get fixed up. I used to Ultralight fish in Maui. Caught a 6lb Papio (jr. trevally) on 2lb floro. Was a 20 minute battle. The tourists on the beach were cheering me on
Been fishing this way for 25 years in southern California. 6 lb test on a 8 foot steelhead rod I converted from casting to spinning. I fish the jetties flylining ghost shrimp.
I need to give that a try, I've been using a heavier rig and 2-4oz pyramid weight on a fish-finder rig because of the strong surf. but I guess another way to do it is use lighter rig, lighter weight, and just let the bait bounce it's way in - then re-cast. I have a hard time discerning between the bites and the waves with the heavy weight
Haha I made a mistake last time using ultralight... Tiny anchovies mini jig + 4lbs mono + 1000 size reel...Hooked a 15 in hali....Took me 30 mins...Funnest fight of my life but never gonna do that again
Really liked that intro 1. Olaf made his mandatory appearance and 2. The shot of the wave coming in and then washing over your feet was well done. That first perch was HUGE!!! Thought for a sec she might spool you the way she was ripping out line.
I'm going to Panama city for a week in March . I'm going to bring a bass rod and reel and some bass lures . I just want to catch a salt water fish , any kind . What would be some good lure choices to try ? I have a multitude of lures . Also , could night fishing be productive ?
I really don't know anything about the fishing in Panama. Maybe try to find some UA-cam videos if you can. Otherwise try to contact a local guide or someone who has experience in the area. Good luck!
That's the way to do it! That slob BSP made a nice run on that light tackle. Dropper rigs and 20 pound line work for putting meat on the table but where's the fun in that? It's like Lennon said--give perch a chance. Lol
Great Vid as usual, man I've always skunked there. Tried both High Low and Carolina Set ups but no luck. What time of the day and tide conditions did you fish during?
Keep at it, I am sure you will get one eventually. I try to fish both ends of the high tide but usually my trips are just based on any time that I can get out to the surf!
2lb perch? jeeeeezus.Way to go though! How'd you cook it up? Also, that was a nice slow-mo transition at the end. Definitely upping your production game.
Barred, Calico, Walleye, silver the occasional Redtail and striped Bass a little farther north. We have a few areas for rock, ling and cabs if you know the sweet spots. Keep up the videos dude!
Where are you based out of Die.Hard? You don't have to tell me the exact beach, you know. just tell me the city that just so happens to be in the general vicinity where you fish hahaha i.e. San Luis Obispo --> Pismo Beach
Oh, ok. I guess I never go tuna fishing with 10 lb test. Or, I never go trout fishing with 1 lb test. I grew up in San Diego, fished my whole life. You don't need 6 lb test for surf perch, dude
Actually, you win. I am coming across as a medium bore d**khole. I should be offering constructive criticism, not snide remarks. The key is the "pump and reel". Don't EVER reel while the fish takes out line on a spinning reel. It twists the line and your lbs. test becomes irrelevant. When the fish runs, let it. Then, apply pressure with the rod to turn it's head and pump and reel until you get him in. When i was a kid, the deck hands on party boats would tell me I can't use bass rods to catch 50 lb tuna, light line gives you an advantage in high pressure fishing situations, your presentation needs to be better than the next fisherperson.
It does drive me nuts when people reel against the drag going out. Literally NUTS! I stopped fishing with a guy who does that. You have balls fishing 50 lb tuna on bass gear. If you make it work though, that's pretty awesome dude. I pushed the limits of light line a lot when I was younger. Now I'm too old to be so careful and patient.

hahaha, must have felt like a 30 pounder.
any beaches in the area hot right now for surfperch? I'm in soquel
From what I have heard, everything is hit or miss right now.

I am working on my editing skills, thanks for boosting the confidence. Always fun to fight a big fish on light tackle.
Was there yesterday morning. Goo bites all along there. Nothing over a pound though.
Yeah, still tough perch fishing from what I have experienced. Should get better as the days get shorter and colder though!
Enjoyed the video. I'd love to see more info on your gears (spec, etc...) and how you prepare your rigs in the beginning of the video.
Thanks, I do have a video with more details on the rigs/setup I use for surf fishing but I will try to go into a little more detail on my next outing!
Watch Fishing on the Costa Del Sol by Spencer Owens
I just notice ur youtube name 🤣😂

Dude, thumbs up for still using Monofilament. I still use Monofilament for all my fishing applications.
Thanks! Definitely adds to the excitement when using light line!

hahaha, yeah man I agree. If you are want a real challenge, this is the way to go!
the screaming in the background 😂😂
Nice catch. What is the minimum size and limit per person? Thanks
Thanks! Where I am, the limit is 10 per person and no size limit.
Nice first catch...big...tfs....
What rod and reel are you using?
All the gear is linked in the description!
that was a jyyyyyaaannttt
a true GIANT
do you fish mostly at low tide
I try to fish high tide if I can, usually my trips are more dictated by when I have free time though!
Great Vid as usual, man I've always skunked there. Tried both High Low and Carolina Set ups but no luck. What time of the day and tide conditions did you fish during?

Go to the beach 2 hours after low tide, start fishing until high tide.. I always got my limit.
2lb perch? jeeeeezus.Way to go though! How'd you cook it up?

It was delicious! Trying my best to improve my editing skills.
Hey buddy do more catch and cook and catch more the snake head and cook.
Will do!
where do you fish?
All up and dow the California Coast.
where are u fishing ?
2 lb perch + 6# test line + fish pulling drag = too light of drag setting
cool video, just sub. I surf fish in my area too, looking forward to seeing more of those videos
Thanks for watching and subscribing! What kind of fish do you have in your area?

thanks for the support!

I live in the bay area and fish anywhere in the area, I try to follow wherever the fish are biting!
6 lbs test, 2 lb fish... tighten your drag...
He's fighting the current and waves too. He's doing it right.
