Just found your channel. New resident in WA, occasionally fishing OR as well. New to salt, been a freshwater fisherman for life. Your channel has been an awesome resource. Really appreciate the gracious amount of knowledge. Tight lines!
Thanks for showing us how to tie up the hi/low rig. I always enjoy your videos. I live in Bend and am looking forward to trying surf fishing for perch.
So that is how the knot is tied, Thanks for showing that with the white cord so I could see it. Question: aren't the surf perch in a school and moving up and down the beach so you have to follow them?
They are easy to catch, and are all over the coast. Any month is good, people catch them year round. Southern Oregon is best since there's less pressure.
Love your videos! Taking a family trip to Seabrook soon and will try out some surfperch fishing. Are surfperch line-shy? I have a store-bought steel wire high-low bottom rig setup. Will that work or is mono line required?
I've seen people use those pre-tied crappie rigs. They work well. I don't know if they are line shy or not, but I use mono for my leader 100% of the time, and it's been working really well for me. Good luck.
@oregonlife I appreciate your response and input. I'll pre-tie both setups and see what works. Thanks again for the great videos helping out us novice fishermen!
Good evening, hey I come to Portland Oregon next month, what are sides, how many inches can I keep and how many fish I can keep ? Thanks very nice Videos!❤😅
It looks very similar to a drop shot rig. Just a little more complicated to tie. Can I ask what's the benefits of adding the loops and putting your hooks on that way?
I cast out and pick up the slack until the line is kinda taught. Then I slowly reel in, pause for a few seconds, and then slowly continue to reel in. Rinse and repeat. Most people I fish with leave it out there for a long time before reeling in. But I would make about 3 casts before they make 1. This way, I cover more water. Tight lines.
By far the best video I have seen showing me how to set up my rig. Thank you

Thank you for the very informative video. How do you connect your 12 LB Maxima to your 20 LB Braid?
He uses a double uni knot.
Thank you for your video. First time will do surf fishing this weekend in Oregon. Do I need a leader for the hi-lo rig?
Yes, mono leader, 15#

Great vid. What size is that swivel lock?
Where is the place you when thank you for the tip it really help.
What type of hook do you use. I love your videos. I am new to perch fishing
#2 or #4 baitholder hooks. When I use sandworms, I use #4. And #2 for bigger baits.
Good area is any where you see alot of rocks or gravel on the beach
Do you work a slow retrieve w/ the disk-sinker and the high/low? Or do you just let it sit, picking up slack when necessary?
