Thank you for this video. The capacitors appeared shorted but after following through to the LCD screen connector, it was obviously burned. I need to replace both the LCD connector on the board (820-3332A) and the LCD cable attached to the screen. This saved me pulling the capacitors off needlessly. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure exactly what you are asking for though. Are you asking to show the board view software more? The problem with the board view is that is doesn't give you as many details about the board such as voltage values which are more helpful in the process.

Yeah that's a thing though. The MacBooks I'm working on actually have the backlight in the screen itself that went bad. I took the board out of a working one and tested it.

I think the display has been replaced, but not 100% sure. There’s no way to dim or brighten the display, and the backlight will turn off randomly, and not turn back on before a restart. So I could use a little help 😉 but not sure the computer is worth enough to send it to the us 🤔
I have the same sue on my A1398 late 2013. No backlight on KB and screen but I can use external monitors. My screen is OK I think because when I place a flashlight on the Apple logo, I can see the display. Is it a common issue on this particular model? Here in the Philippines my only option is to buy replacement logic board. Do you sell necessary components? Maybe I can repair it on my own. I will appreciate your response.

man why are you so far away from where i am! i have the same problem on my macbook pro and every repair service i went to automatically said to replace the lcd which is like half the price of the laptop! they could've done this and save me few hundred dollars but ofc they don't wanna bother with it.

But the LCD connector seems to be good, no burn, nothing...) But I figure out that it's not really the same board than yours. When can I found the number like "820-3662" correspond to my board? And if you have any idea of what can I check on board to find the problem, do not hesitate! Thanks for your time!
The board # is printed on the board itself. The location changes depending on the model board, but you can usually find it printed close to the edge towards the back of the board.
@@PowerbookMedic Sorry to disturbing you again.. I mesured all boost capacitors when power is on, and the voltage is always low. But I don't see short to ground on the LCD connector or anywhere. Something is strange, there's no backlight on the screen, but when the computer is low battery, the screen turns on, lights up and shows me the symbol that I need to reload the mac... You think it could be a data problem? replacing the LED Driver would be relevant?
@@corvaxx5402 One thing to try is resetting the PRAM. Hold down the ‘Option’ ‘Comman’ ‘P’ and ‘R’ keys all at once as soon as you power on the machine. The machine will chime and then the screen will turn off. Continue holding down the keys until you hear the start up chime again. See if you have backlight now. If not, you have something strange going on with the board. I don’t believe it would be a problem with the LED driver, however, it never hurts to try.
Hi, in my case the display is on, no backlight, however once in a while (rarely) the backlight turns on and off again real quick, so the display flashes. Does that mean it's not a logic board problem and that it could be a loose cable or something more simple like that? I mean, if i had a faulty logic board would it be possible for the backlight to flash like that? Thanks!!
@@rowan5328 Nah man. in my case, apple changed my display to a new one because they said it was part of a recall program. from then on, i took the computer to apple twice (under warranty), they said the problem was in my display, changed it to a new one and the problem reappeared after a few weeks. Im on my 3rd brand new display changed by apple and the problem persists, now out of warranty.
@@rowan5328 it almost feels like the computer *thinks the lid is closed when its open. cause fucking around with sleep, closing and opening lids and shit like that makes it flash sometimes. but i've tried every suggested solution, shortcuts and combination of events and stuff, nothing works.

What is the rather large (by comparison) surface mount passive component (I believe it's an 0805 size) directly adjacent to the display connector? (visible to the lower-right side of the connector at 14:45 in the video) Is it a capacitor or just a ferrite, or something else completely? Mine is half burned up, and the built-in display doesn't work. HDMI works fine. Connector on the board as well as on the LCD cable looks completely fine without any visible damage. Hoping for an easy "fix"... I've even thought about removing the component and just shorting the pads, thinking it's just a shunt to ground for the LCD panel?
More info - I found that the very last pin (closest pin to the component mentioned above) on the LCD cable connector (connector attached to the cable, not the socket on the board) is smashed and was possibly shorting to the metal frame of the cable connector. I was able to bend it back out of the way, so it's not shorting, but I don't believe it will still make proper contact inside the socket... So... even if I find and replace the half-burned component, I'm thinking I may need a new display as well? Or can I just replace the display cable itself?

Its actually a Coil. Its measurements are: 15ohm-100ma-8.5ghz

@@briangullikson5865 Yeah, that coil will need to be replaced. Then the display connector and the display cable will need to be replaced most likely.
