My mum says he should've been much bigger but he lived in Prince and MJ's shadow and people were constantly comparing him to them and calling him wannabe Prince. Imo he's extremely talented and underrated.
This song brings back so many memories! I was 17 years old in 1987. I was working at a place where we where all young, between 16 and 22, and two or three nights a week after work we went to a bar near our workplace. In Sweden you have to be 18 to drink alcohol at bars, but I guess I looked older than my age 'cause I never had any problems ordering drinks. We were a group of 15-20 people going to this bar, and every night we played this song on the jukebox, over and over again. We all loved it! Then came the day when I turned 18, March 16:th, 1988. Of course it was a birthday to celebrate, and of course we went to our favorite bar to celebrate. The owner of the bar noticed we where celebrating, and asked me what the occasion was. I said "It's my 18:th birthday!" and he was at first mad. "What?!" he yelled. "You've been drinking here for months, and you weren't 18?! We could have lost our permit to sell alcohol if anyone would have found out!" (The laws for selling alcohol at restaurants and bars where, and are, strict in Sweden). I felt a bit ashamed, I hadn't been thinking about that, all I cared about was partying and drinking with my friends. Luckily, the owner soon calmed down. Maybe he realized how much money me and my friends had spent there during the past six months or so... ;-) He actually came and congratulated me, and then he said that me and my friends could get free drinks for the rest of the night! It was a memorable night - although some things are a bit "foggy" for some reason - that night almost 33 years ago. Terence trent D'Arby, Sign Your Name, good friends, party, turning 18, my whole life ahead of me... Sorry for "Wall of text"!
What a passionate song . I remember when Terrance first came on the scene back in the 80’s. His voice was so unique. He sounded like Sam Cooke and Bobby Womack in one voice. What a talent. It’s been a while since I’ve heard this song and it’s only gotten better with time. The classics have a way of doing that. No music today can come close to the 60’s-80’s era.
And the people at the time said no music compares to the 50s . See, each generation shits on the current music and longs for music of long ago. So you are no different from the people who claimed 60s, 70s, and or 80s was horrible at the time.

We were homeless at the time but with music we got to live vicariously and hope for better days since my father was abusive and we barely had anything. I’ll always cherish these times, holding on for better days and that God continues to wake me up. If it wasn’t for music I wouldn’t be here or dream. Man, I miss this era of music. Is that you Terrence?
nice try, but i really don't think he ever has had a monolithic ego. personally i think his name change is part of a Spiritual Journey that includes transcending ego. but i don't know the man personally so that's just a guess.
in any event not i'm not him. if you don't believe me i'd be more than happy to arrange a meet and greet ; )
anofi berry you hit it right on the nose . People just didn’t understand him he did what he needed to do for him to survive. You have to watch his interviews an his videos from wishing to now , he was fun , quirky an a true artist an still is ❤️❤️❤️❤️him

Great Artists are no longer around and Music devolved into the crap that's out in this Generation!! Bring back the Real Artists Like This and Stay Blessed My Brothers and Sisters in JESUS CHRIST Always

It's an honor to know Darby, I actually know his whole family in Deland Florida, shout out to Darren; Pastor Darby and first lady, and his other brother who conducts spiritual on stage plays via Platinum works.
