Hi Eddie. I’m a new subscriber and really enjoy your videos. You mentioned you don’t like Fluke’s anymore, does that also include the ones made in the US?
I think Flukes are too expensive and don't offer the features that meters from say Hioki or FLIR offer. The 70 Series and 80 Series are made in the US, but they are around 20 years old - and cost more than better competitors IMHO;) The 289 is made in the US but is my least favorite meter that I have because it is so big and goes thru batteries like crazy - also the screen isn't awesome. I'd like to see them get competitive again as I used to be a Fluke fan. One of my favorite meters is the 189, but sadly it isn't made anymore and was over priced too. Buying used is a crap shoot because you don't know how old the meter might be and if it is beat up. The pix of the 189 looked good, but the terminals are beat up:(
@@KissAnalog You not the first person to mention that the 189 was their favourite meter! I have the Brymen 867s and I love it. I feel technology has overtaken regular multimeters with what smart phones are capable of now. Maybe multimeters should have more features, colour screens, graphing readouts and higher resolution? What's the difference between the 117 and 117C?
Mr Kiss Analog i have got question for you namely, if you were to choose an oscilloscope that would catch single pluses with a central frequency equal to 1MHz, which of these oscilloscopes you choose: KEYSIGHT TECHNOLOGIES DSOX1204A, SIGLENT SDS1204X-E or RIGOL MSO5104? I know all parameters but I'am asking about a quality of these brands.
I think any 3 of these would have great support. I’d throw in the GW Instek into this group, and for the price of the Keysight, you can get a much better scope from GW Instek, who has been around for a long time. I get immediate support on any question from GW Instek, and am put into contact with the tech support engineer. At Siglent I have one contact as the filter. They are helpful but I don’t have direct access to the guy with the answers. I think you will find Keysight that way too. Rigol doesn’t respond to me, but then I don’t own any of their equipment.
Was just about to go to bed and I see this video posted. The Chinese Flukes are pretty popular with Electronic Hobbyists that I talk to that want the name. I just got the Fluke 107 for about 100 bucks. I overpaid by a lot if you consider that it has way less features than most 30 dollar meters. I bought it to see if the leads were that bad. You were right. I don't even use it as a glovebox meter because I hate the leads so much. I'm ordering some other ones from Amazon. I feel bad you paid 170 bucks for that 117. My 50 dollar extech is almost as good and the leads are better.

Any thoughts on fluke t6-1000 pro? I'm looking for a meter to do apartment maintenance. I work on boilers hot water tank, residential wiring, low voltage and so on. I want a Meter that is safe but if it gets lost or stolen I won't cry, any good advice or a direction to look?
I like this meter as it is very powerful and has a free app for your phone so you can set the meter and go turn on a breaker or something and watch the meter. Also, it can measure power factor. Price is good too. Here's a video: ua-cam.com/video/GasvW-W3vBw/v-deo.html

One of my favorite meters is the MS88.
Mine is rebranded by Dr. Meter and I got it for 15 dollhairs.
It's not TRMS and it's only 4000 counts but it is intuitive for me and it feels really tough.
This is an awesome feedback! It is really the meter that you like using and has a good feel that really maters. If you know you don't have TRMS and the measurements that you are taking don't have a lot of noise or are mostly sine wave, then you are fine.

Is fluke 18b+ faster than 17b+? It does not have alot of features that 17b+ has like temperature measurement, min max mode, relative mode etc.
Great question. OK, there is only one difference between the 17b+ and 18B+; the 17B+ has temp and the 18B+ has the LED test (higher voltage). They are both over priced and they both come with crap leads IMHO. Hi, I believe the quick continuity test is because sometimes you're looking to see which pin on an IC is connected to a point somewhere on a PCB. So you hold one probe on the board, and then run the other probe down the IC pins. If the continuity test is fast you can find the connected pin faster. Hope that makes sense.
Also 4000 count on a fluke is a joke for the money. My Aneng AN8002 has a 6000 count and cost the huge sum of £8 on sale on Banggood a few years ago.
Thanks Ian! That does help, and I have to admit - I've done that test myself;) Usually though, if it is really important, it is worth the time to hit each pin and be sure.
For a small meter, I like the Aneng meters;) I have one and just used it today;)
@@KissAnalog fast continuity test response is indeed a useful thing in cases where your circuit behave weird, like it shows short for a tiny amount of time and then goes open the very next moment. Also, for testing wires for a cut, a non-latching continuity test is much more appropriate, as its reaction time is not dependent on any background processing.

I agree on the diode test subject, manufacturers never stated originally that the diode test was intended for leds, it almost seems as if users and reviewers arbitrarily decided since LED's are a (type) of diode that the diode range should also be able to test led's, so they starting including it in their reviews as a function test. but now on meters such as some from UniT they have specific diode test ranges that work well and some even have a beep on the diode test when its good, a nice feature.

Im guessing it shows high voltage because its AC-?? Does seem odd, im used to it appearing in accordance with whats being read - here theyre just using it was a blanket warning I think.
I think you are right. I think it is the lack of a good display, they can't use a color like some 'cheep' Chinese meters;) And they don't have a dual display to show what's going on, so the 'blanket' warning sounds right;)

You forgot 1 REALLY nice feature on the 117 - the bar graph which shows you if your signal has quick changes and updates much faster than the digit display. I'm in the market for a new DMM.
A DMM will show you an average voltage, but won't show you if your signal is changing fast, that's where you'd need an oscilloscope. The bar graph is really nice, a feature I wish my Fluke 15B had.

Ive had my Fluke 17B+ about three years and no problems, seems well made.
Yes, I think it is well made. But I find even the low cost meters seem to be well made. I do like the features of the 17B+ better than the 18B+. I have some new meters that I am anxious to review. I really want to try them out;)
Out of curiosity I bought a $25 clone of the 18b+ on aliexpress that appears to be functionally identical lol, LED test works great. The branding is Borbede BD-19 & the internal PCB is marked WINHY VC 18B.

If ya look close the Fluke 18B+ uses a number of high quaity components in the upper end, im seeing some tantalum capacitors etc, looks like traditional fluke componentry spec'd by fluke not so much like the off the shelf jelly bean parts found in lesser chinese meters. I believe that big metal thing you called an antenna is actually metal RF shielding.
They do use good components on par with other higher end multimeter makers. The lowest cost meters will use aluminum caps. You know, at first I thought it was a shield but then I was looking for the non-contact voltage antenna - and it looked like it was using this metal thing;) It could function as both, a shield for the circuitry and a pick up for the non-contact... It was the most sensitive detector that I've found...unusable I think on the Hi setting.

Great question! I think both meters will be very safe when used properly. The BM869s is tested and certified to CAT IV at 1000V where these Flukes are certified at one level lower at CAT III at 600V. They both come with high rupture fuses, so that test in the video link would probably be no big deal for either meter - but then we don't know the voltage used in the test. High rupture fuses are necessary for opening when there is a high level of available current - but it also has to be within the voltage rating. BTW, that test was with the leads in the current port - and it looked like a low cost meter, and probably not certified at any CAT rating.
that whole firestick thing was started by EEVblog, Dave uses it to show speed but its kinda hokey and not really necessary - you can tell how fast it is without all that drama.
I think you are right. It bothers me because it puts too much emphases on speed and not the tone or loudness. And the speed thing is so subjective and has too many variables. I think it evolved into a circus show;)
I trust my Fluke because of safety and (decent) accuracy.
When comes to these two meters, I rather have my Klein back (MM400, for a bag meter) that I shouldn't have sold.
Right now I'm looking for a replacement "bag meter" and it's looking like I'm leaning towards the Amazon (CEM) or another Klein (MM600) 😟

@@KissAnalogbrymen bm789 or brymen bm869s? Bm789 has non-contact voltage detection but resistor measurement parameters are lower. And bm869s is more accurate but does not have ncv. And which one is better? Because both have similar parameters. I would take it with ncv, but the accuracy is 0.03% and bm869s is 0.02%. Is there not much difference here?
My fluke 117 meter is made in Singapore, bought in 2015 and still very strong and reliable.

My go-to favorite meter is still a very old Fluke 87 (No Mark x rubbish). It's that old you have to take it apart to change the 9v battery. Besides having to clean those zebra strips for the display, it has been great many, many years. It's still the one I grab for trouble-shooting. Its resistance auto-range speed is very good (so much better than the Brymen 121GW, which is relegated to a shelf for that reason). I think I may have just received my new favorite DVM to use for trouble-shooting: The Brymen BM786. It's early yet, but so far, it feels great. It's back light sort of sucks (3 leds on the bottom of the display), but I don't use a back light very often on a battery powered DVM. The old Fluke 87 still has a usable back light, about the same as the 786. I suggest you evaluate the Bryman 786, The 789 may be more desirable for you, since it has the LowZ. The 786 may finally be a good replacement for the Fluke 87. Time will tell.
Oh and you mentioned something in your video, that may be one of the reasons I like the old Fluke 87 so much: the bendable, shape-able rubber kick stand. It does NOT move on the bench, or table, when changing settings the way a meter with a damn plastic kickstand does. I can rotate the selector switch and it stays still on a bench surface. DVMs with a plastic kick stand take two hands to change the switch setting, or they slide on the bench.

@@JasonSmith-fu6oi ??? As you say, Fluke is overpriced. Finding a responsive meter that meets one's needs is the most important thing. I was just amazed how a Fluke 87, two days older than dirt, is better and more responsive than some meters available today. You also mention that testers skipping the probes together to test the continuity beeper is garbage. It may not be how you realistically use a meter, but I think what they are trying to test/show, it the responsiveness of the continuity beeper, in order to have confidence in it (AND THE PROBE TIPS). I have experienced myself using those junk fluke probes poor responsiveness out of continuity. Replace them with a good probe set with good plates probe tips and that can make a world of difference. So skating the probe tips across each other does have some merit. Add some crappy probe to a DVM that is less responsive and one looses confidence is a DVM that your not watching the screen all the time. I had that issue with the 121GW, which probably knee jerked me back to using a Fluke 87, two days older than dirt and scared me off of new non-fluke meters. Fluke was all I knew and trusted. It is all that we ever had at the company I worked at for 37 years. We knew of no other meter brands. With your videos I see there is a lot other stuff out there. I had tried cheap DVMs and my #1 complaint was probably the responsiveness of the auto ranging ohms readings, especially reading low resistance. I assumed the more you paid for a meter, the better is was. I assumed if it was designed by an engineer that you admired, the better it was. I got burned in the responsiveness category. This particular guy seems to have redeemed himself with the BM786. Before that, I thought that Agilent might of had the best hand held DVM, but big big bucks. So, I do very much appreciate your hand held meter examinations.
Thanks @Daveyk021, you make many great points! I liked the Fluke 87, and the original had a better kickstand and test leads. I've used the newer versions over the years as it is the basic meter that all labs seem to choose. When we got the a 189, we all wanted to use it;) Much better meter with much better display. Now, the 87 is showing its age and has climbed to a ridiculous price - mostly be cause labs buy it by default. I think that's why Fluke doesn't change it too much - they don't want to rock the boat.
I do think that the price and lack of innovation will hurt Fluke in the near future. I think there are enough other choices out there now, that they have to be losing revenue. But Danaher owns them and Tektronix, so they have an in automatically with many labs. And there is the false belief that Fluke is still the best. IMHO

For me the main feature is an internal pot for calibrating the meter against my 10 volt standard as I mostly fiddle around with hobbyist level stuff and especially for taking accurate battery measurements. I wish someone just made an accurate handheld voltmeter without all the stuff I rarely use.
I haven't used that to calibrate. Would the relative feature help in your measurements?
The Fluke TL71 leads are all silicone and much nicer quality. I changed out the leads on my Fluke 17B+ soon as I got it for the TL71's, all silicone including the probe handles, at least they feel like silicone.
Yes these leads do need to be tossed. But honestly, after being ripped off by Fluke - I would buy a lower cost silicone lead from someone else. It is a shame that they get our business by default, and no longer have to earn it. Thank you fir making this point;) I appreciate you!
I just got my 117 today and my klein leads are betger than the ones that came with the fluke. They feel better, are more supple, and I can actually attach aligator clips to them which I use a lot.

If you purchase the 18B+ on aliexpress, they provide the yellow-black bag (with a special pocket for the probes) and the meter is sold a bit cheaper (a least for us), if the reviews were shorter it would be more convenient IMHO. Thank you though.

Sorry, I usually measure that. The loaded voltage is specified at 2 V, but I think it is near 2.5 V unloaded.

¡Genio! El 117 esta orientado a trabajos eléctricos, no a trabajos de electrónica. El 18+ me llamo la atención, pero ¡ojo! No es TRMS. Mis equipos son de Estados Unidos. La diferencia se basa en el control complejo como de laboratorio y ya salen con las especificaciones correspondientes como muchas cuestiones mas. En China o Malasia los hacen también pero copian las características, manuales, instructivos, sin pasar por controles y muchas otras otras. Por ejemplo en las industrias de Argentina, ya sean fabricas, Químicas, Aceiteras, etcétera, los instrumentos deben de ser FLUKE, con su homologacion, calibración, en la industria no permiten otra marca, que no sea la mencionada.
Can anyone explain why this chinese Fluke is better that a $130 UNI-T UT195E? UT195E has a bar graph, dual display, 6000 count, decent build and input protection, IP65 rating. 18B doen't even have any agency certification. As for hobbyist LED testing there is a $35 UT89XD.

I bought the 15b+ a few years ago for like 65 bucks when I was in country. Nowadays that is not the case, home gamers found that meter and now they sell for $100! The 15b+ is not a $100 meter! Furthermore I’ll measure mains at my house, but I would never bring it to work! I wanted to ask I think I see a green Lee back in your lineup is that the us version of Bryman? that I think would be a cool comparison, the 117 vs the bm235

I like your content but please allow me to make a suggestion with respect. I would ask you to make your videos about 1/3 shorter at least. I believe you can get the same content in a lot less time. Many of us electricians are very busy and I honestly believe you will have more subscribers if you shorten up your videos. Thanks!

Viewers typically have an attention span of around 15 minutes, many even play videos at faster speeds. I watch far too many UA-cam videos and tend to avoid the longer videos.

In the UK Fluke 18B £130 + shipping 117 £270 + shipping way to much, I'll stick with the Cheap Uni T multi's, which come with a useful bag and better leads, I'm not impressed with Fluke these days, I do have a Fluke though she's old fluke 27, the most useful one for me., you have a good RANT, it stops me from shouting at the monitor.

Thank you for this nice review and overall comparison! At 4:50 I noticed the same thing at my workplace. We have some TL75 made in 2015 or 2016 (the manufacturing date is written on the wires) which are less stiff than the new TL75s. Of course they all came as default leads for 110 and 170 series we bought. Because of this we ordered afterwards a dozen pairs of TL175 leads which are way better and cost only 25% more than the crappy ones. This is just a Fluke dirty strategy to raise their profit by forcing you to wish for better stuff than the default. The Fluke 117 is made in Malaysia? I knew that the 110 series are made only in China...
I am really disapointed that they take advantage of the loyalty that we give them. It is one thing to ask top dollar - but another level of uck, when the leads need to be replaced. The TL175 are some of my favorites - but at $35 they are also over priced. And they are made by Pomona - another Danaher company. Danaher owns Pomona and Fluke, you would have thought that they did that to help Fluke with better leads.
As long you are open minded and fair - plus you mentioned that it is your opinion... I would not give you thumbs down. I gave you thumbs UP and I would give you more than one, if possible. I do have Fluke 289, I love it, but it was very expensive! And I agree, with brand like Fluke, the probes MUST BE SILICON and very high quality - why they do crappy probes is beyond me. Thanks god that my 289 came with very nice probes and case....! Not to change the subject, just received my inexpensive Insulation Resistance Tester, so I'll play with it today. It's just under $60 from Amazon - BtMeter 6688B and goes to 5000V.

They should change the PN when they change the material. At Fluke prices they should provide great test leads, not be coming up with the worst leads in the market. It is shameful. And sad - to see the bean counters ruining what used to be a market leader:(

Than I always disassemble everything that is broken and use the parts, so it was after 10PM and right now, I must do some work... but I hope to play with it shortly. The manual is just one page - double sided and little more on the second page - that is it. The reason I purchased it is to run it as a adjustable power supply from 500V to 5K volts for some of my experiments - I love sparks and making people uncomfortable so they get scared a little and WOW at the end. ha ha ha I also like to scare myself, so when I get my big Tesla Coil assembled, I'll take it outside, when testing! I'm sure it is safe inside the house, but this one is a very large version!
If you turn the temperature in your lab to over 100 degrees, your leads will be nice and soft! ;-)

Sorry I gave up on this video after 12 minutes of ranting about the packing material and quality of the supplied leads. p.s. I have a 117 as my grab and go meter which fits my needs well, I also have an 87V (along with a 337, 1507, i410, etc.) which I pull out for more serious stuff, but it is much more bulky than the 117 and does not have the easy thumb actuated dial or voltage proximity alarm.
Sorry you didn't like it Ike. All good meters, but did they come with these new super stiff leads? My Flukes that I bought not that long ago had much better leads. Nota acceptable quality for a top priced meter.

@@MrPenguinLife You are right Ike, but at this price Fluke should be supplying better leads, at least as good as their older leads (before going to this new material). Especially when the company that owns them also owns Pomona who makes there better leads, and could supply them with better leads. Just seems like penny pinching (bean counters ruining the company).
I have a Fluke 17B+ and I like that meter a lot - yes, you are correct about the cheaper meters being just about as accurate, but there's no comparison in the build quality (or the protection). American made Flukes are better built than the 100 or teen-B+ series, but this line is still much more solidly built than most of the cheap Chinese meters. All you have to do is pick up a cheap one and then pick up one of the Chinese Flukes and it just feels much more solid. The TL-75 probes are garbage though, you are absolutely right - the ones I got with mine are just as bad as the ones you got with the 18B+.
Thanks for the great feedback! There are also lower cost options that are not cheap Chinese meters that are built with equal quality and better features than the Fluke meters. Amprobe AM570 is better and they are owned by the same company that owns Fluke. Testo is also a great option. Fluke is charging too much for what you get IMHO;)
@@KissAnalog Actually the AM570 is currently 15 bucks more expensive than the 17B+ on Amazon, for the moment anyway. I do like Amprobes, however, and yes they tend to sport more features than the Fluke counterparts.

I hate that hardly anything is UL certified anymore, out of two dozen meters the only meter I have thats UL rated is a Greenlee/Brymen.
I see ETL becoming more of a competitor to UL, so I like to see one of these if I want to recommend for CAT III or especially CAT IV work. I'm surprised the lower cost Amazon Commercial comes with the mark;)
The walls inside the enclosure, which are covering the fuses are not only to prevent them leaving their holders. They are also a safety feature, they increase the clearance between the fuses and the other components, to prevent arcs. Otherwise the HRC fuses would be useless.
Product safety is a science, especially in multimeter design. Most multimeters with led and diode test connectors wouldn‘t pass any agency tests, because they are connected directly with the 4mm connectors, so you can harm yourself when measuring with test leads and a component still connected to the multimeter.
Have 17B+ and 187. 9 out of 10 times I grab the 17B+ because I use it in the car and boat(mainly DC dont need trms for that) and I realy like those BIG numbers on the display (-:

Amazon now saying all Flukes are made in China. I question Amazon accuracy. Fluke is definitely protected in the marketplace. They aren't really competing.
Yes, some are made in China, but others are made in Malaysia as I showed here. The current clamp meters, I think, have always been made in Taiwan. Only the most expensive models are made in the US - from what I understand. I agree - I don't think they compete anymore - at the price point.
to add more disappointment is that the 12-18B (either plain/plus) series have no diode "chirp" or "beep" like their big brothers. i guess Fluke wants us to pay for this function too, just like its auto-hold function.

Yes that is true. But neither is made in the US or comes with the limited lifetime warranty. This is new news to many who think Fluke is still the US made meter that comes with a lifetime warranty. Only the higher cost meters actually made in the US come with the 'limited' lifetime warranty. This is to the best of my knowledge.

Look at the Fluke TL71 leads, theyre much nicer all silicone and two color molding. Since John Fluke passed and the kids took over things have changed, hints of a decline in quality of things like leads, made in china always changes the product in some way.
The TL71 are nice leads. They should provide those by default. I agree, if you look back - i think their fall or 'hold-fast' mentality took over then. And then the sold out to Danaher, so the bean counters are in control now. And Danaher had Tektronix stop making their meters, so Fluke took that tech - which brought about the 189. Since - nothing good... Too bad:(

Флюки для американского и европейского рынка по нашим меркам стоят много и они практически не доступны из-за высокой стоимости увы.. (но они качественнее на много порядков. Вывод прост наверно зря fluke перенёс часть производства в Азию. У меня такой же флюк только 15 b+. Стоит на данный момент от 101$до 115$)
You are not bashing them ... you are bringing to light certain facts regarding their products ... Flukes are good meters but overpriced and under featured !!! I for one do like their “simple, old style” looks ... like I am a fan of the Amprobes (simple and functional looking). The red one, whatever it's called, may be made by the same people who own Fluke Inc., but it isn't a Fluke. The thing about the Fluke is that in sensitive industries, Aviation etc., producing a Fluke for measurements reduces/eliminates the potential for disputes...
Thanks for the feedback! But I'll have to disagree with that. Anyone that can stand up and explain why another piece of equipment is being used has my respect. I have worked in SPACE and Defense industries for much of my career and I have never heard of anyone caring what equipment was being used. I have never written a troubleshooting spec calling out a specific instrument. I might call one out and say 'this XXX or something equal'. And that's the way I've seen others write specs. The only thing I've ever seen challenged is whether or not the thing is in cal. A multimeter is so trivial that most of us never ask for a specific meter. When it comes to scopes - now that's another subject;)
Between these two the Hz % Duty Cycle was the selling point for me. 117 does not have the option.

My meter is an82, its just a cheap china meter maybe 26 to 30 dollars in your currency... Though it have some good features and i can use it for repairs the problem is it can't read 6v ac and below..

Fluke really is over priced. Out of the 15,17 and 18 meters. I prefer the 17. I own one and have been using it for a couple years in the automotive industry. But I want a more accurate meter with more features.
I agree with you. I would choose the 17 from these, but I'd actually rather choose a meter with a different name on it. I just feel that you don't get as much for your money - and you give up features that others provide.

Thanks for your feedback. But, I do want to clarify - the Fluke 117 (I think is what you meant the 17 is even lower in capability), and it can read both AC and DC voltage and current (which most meters can) - but it does not have AC+DC mode. This is found on higher end multimeters.
IMHO the testo 760-2 is a far superior meter that can do both the lowZ and also has the high frequency filter for noise voltage measurements as found on variable frequency drives. It also comes with silicone leads and has an IP64 rating (Ingress Protection) - which I don't think the 117 is even rated. It even cost $50 less. amzn.to/3uTYzeI

It's like arguing religion and politics when you try to provide a reasonable contrast to Fluke and the rest of the industry. My respect for Fluke is basically gone (went many years ago!) When you start manufacturing in China one would expect a reasonable reduction in price to remain competitive but not Fluke; the price remains high and they put the profit in their pocket. One thing I cannot comment on is the quality and longevity of their handheld meters as I've never been able to afford one; however, in 1987 I bought a Dilog meter that was a less expensive/more features competitor to Fluke and the distributor included a real Fluke carrying case. It is the older gray heavy-duty vinyl with the Fluke name embossed in the top front. It has carried the Dilog and a couple different sets of leads and adapters, and thermocouples, and calibration tools and has seen over a million air miles to a couple different countries in North America with me. That case is still in top shape after almost 35 years! So quality is not the issue here.

I think recent technology where large ICs do most the work and everyone now is using the same plastics (which plastic technology is so much better the last decades), that all electronics should last many years (except for the batteries of course). I think it is too bad that Fluke hasn't improved their displays (Much), and they savings manufacturing in asia hasn't lowered their prices. I really think it is because so many buy them based on their old reputation.
... just proves a point... you get what you pay for ... a $100 meter is cheap ... corners are cut all around, to secure a profit ... a "good" and accurate instrument costs a bundle ... it has always been the case ...

I think in some cases like this you pay for the name - blindly. I think there are better options for much less, so you don’t have to pay so much for what you get. Here’s a great example. Well cost cutting is needed to hit price point. But these el cheapo meters work okay. Measurements are still spot on though. Isn't that what matters.

@@oldskeptic1513 You're right. My el cheapo meters have hardly any components inside so it's accuracy is suspect. I've never baseline tested them to better spec'd certified equipment. Also there's hardly any protection for high voltage as well. It's good for basic home applications but not for commercial or industrial use.

That's a great question! I heard that they sent these overseas, but ended up bringing the 179 back to the states. I think it is just been in the lineup too long and is a flagship meter, so they brought it back. Currently, I think there is a 179-C version still made in China that comes with their global warranty, but the US made version comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Probably public perception...IMHO Not sure about this information, but it is

Great review:-) The CE mark is an agency testing, even with higher standards than those in the USA. To get anything sold in Europe does every product have to be CE tested. But that is not enough, every part in the product does also have to be CE tested. Let's say you make a TV, then does every component have to be tested, including the remote, the batteries, the cords and so on.
Thanks Fried mule!! The CE mark is a self certification. So, it is actually the lowest cost and easiest mark to get. That CUL is probably the next lowest cost and that’s why the lower cost Flukes have them. Everyone has the CE by example. The UL, ETL, and TUV are harder to get and cost much more.

LOL, there are actually 2 CE marks, and one is Chinese Export, but the CE marking on these meters is for the multimeter safety rating for EN 61010

Fluke meters were never meant to be consumer meters. The extreme price is a waste of money for hobbyists because they will never benefit from any of the things which warrant a high price. Fluke meters aren't more accurate than others, but they are calibrated to be consistent within their own. For instance, the military has thousands of Fluke meters and they need them to all read the same and never change overtime (new designs), which would conflict with all of their documentation for testing equipment. Big corporations are paying a high price for regular calibration, servicing, years of Flukes data (such as drift over time) and consistency. Hobbyists don't need any of this crap. The fact that Fluke must keep their meters consistent over time means they tend to stick with old chips and designs. It's a blatant waste of money for a hobbyists to buy a Fluke meter when better meters for their purpose are available. More functions, better accuracy, higher resolution, much cheaper...
The fact that a cheap Chinese Fluke meter is over $200 should set off the bells and whistles. Yet, a lot of people just buy into the Fluke hype and never question why they are so over priced. It's not difficult to build an accurate meter these days.
Thanks for all the great feedback! I agree with so much of what you said, but I do want to point out a few things that I believe.
First, Fluke was originally made for the every day user - but as time has gone on that has changed - but that is how they made such a great name for themselves. Everyone in school, hobbyist, and professional used them. But today they are just too expensive.
Second point I want to make, is I have worked in military projects and have been in the Airforce, and I don't know of any documents that require Fluke to be used. They might point out some Fluke model, but almost assuredly they will say this or equivalent. There are many makers that will offer calibration services and drift is not an issue as they require calibration every year.
The truth as I see it, buyers and lab managers have already had certain equipment approved, so if engineers like me don't ask for something different, then they just buy the same model every year. IMHO that's why the 189 was killed because Fluke realized their mistake and didn't want the 87 killed. Don't rock the boat...if buyers had to go out for new approvals - they would have to compare to other equipment and they are simply too lazy to do that. And Engineers like me just accept what is in the lab. It is only this channel that opened my eyes.

Not at all - I used to be a big fan, but now know that there are so many better options IMHO. I am trying to help people understand the truth about all the great options of meters. There are so many people that think that Flukes are made in the US, and yes a few are - the higher cost models. But these lower cost models are obviously not. So many people knock meters that are made in the same places that cost several times less.
